Satellite L300D-202: Restore using Recovery disk does not work

Good Afternoon,
Wonder if anyone can shed some light on the following error message I get when trying to restore my laptop...
"Setting access permissions V:\HDDRecovery...
V:\HDDRecovery The system cannot find the file specified

ERROR: ImageX could not apply WinRE V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg\06546XSP.svm Index 1 from HDD to W:!
Press any key to continue..."
After this I am left with the Toshiba recovery software running with no action and an Active DOS screen but nothing happening...
I'm guessing HD fault, Recovery media received today from Toshiba for this system
Laptop is:
Satellite L300D 202
NB. If i restart the laptop boots so far and displays BOOTMGR is missing Ctrl Alt Del to restart...
All help much appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
Rick0684

> NB. If i restart the laptop boots so far and displays BOOTMGR is missing Ctrl Alt Del to restart...
Hmm... for me it looks like the notebook does not boot from the disk (DVD) but it tries to boot from the HDD....
Anyway, did you try to boot from another disks; for example Win XP, Linux Live CD?
Do this and check if this is possible... if yes, format the HDD and try to boot from the recovery disk again!
PS: Did you try an HDD recovery option?
Power up the unit, press F8 and in choose Repair my Computer
After that choose Toshiba HDD recovery option if possible.

    Hi
Please boot unit to Bios using F10 key once unit is powered on go to Diagnostics check if the Hard Drive is getting detected. If not getting detected reseat the HDD & check if not issue with HDD & Solt of HDD.
If the HDD is getting detected under Bios please run the HDD test check if that passed.
Then under system configaration change the Boot order to CD/DVD to be First.
Insert the CD restart the unit or press Esc Button unit should detect the RCD in drive and give you the recovery option still does not work issue with DVD/HDD.

  • I have a mac which plays the boot sound but the screen stays black. Recovery mode does not work, as the keyboard is wireless. What do I do?

What it says in the title.
I have an older mac and it worked perfectly until about an hour ago when I shut it down because we needed the room dark for a presentation and the screen saver was putting out light.
Now it won't turn back on. It plays the start up music but the screen stays blank.
The CMD+OPT+R for recovery mode doesn't do anything, the keyboard is wireless so the command doesn't get to the computer and that's the only keyboard I have since that's the one it came with.
I'm looking at making a USB recovery disk but it says that I should click on "Options" in the Disk Utility but there is no options button or menu to click.
From here: OS X: About Recovery Disk Assistant in step 3 I get stuck.
Also it says that if I make a drive on this computer which has an older OS it might not work on the broken machine with Mavericks.
This machine literally worked and I turned it off and now it does not work and there seems to be nothing I can do... ***...

I don't believe there is anything we can do on a forum to help then, you need to take it into a AASP and have it professionaly diagnosed. If you don't know how to locate an AASP in your area you can begin by using Contact Apple for support and service
    Good luck.

  • HT4859 every time I try to restore my ipod it does not work...how come?

every time I try to restore my ipod it does not work...how come?

The only way to clear off the passcode is to restore the device.  You could always try the restore process on another computer that has iTunes just to get the iPod working again, then you could plug it back into your comptuer to sync all of his content back on the iPod.

  • My Password to enter my Hard Disk does not work. I did not loose it ! It is correct! What to do!

My hard disk password for my Mac Pro laptop does not work. I am using the correct User Name and Password! I have not lost my password, it just stopped working and I get the "jumping window" effect and after clicking Continue a few times I get the "hint" for the Password I am using? What to do?

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
You must back up all data before continuing, unless you've already done so. If you need to back up but can't log in, ask for instructions.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, boot into Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • Disk Utility's "Verify Disk" does not work

For some reason I am not able to run the "Verify Disk" option in the Disk Utility application. I open up Disk Utility, I can click on the button, and it begins. However, while it says it is verifying the disk, and the status bar appears (just shows it working, doesn't show a time remaining), it continues like this for an inordinate amount of time. Eventually, the entire computer freezes up; I can move the mouse, but nothing responds to keyboard or mouse clicks. I am forced to hold down the power button to shut-down.
To get more information I decided to run this command in the Terminal. This is what I get:
    +mycomputername~ root# diskutil verifyVolume /+
    +Started verify/repair on volume disk0s2 Macintosh HD+
When I press enter after typing the first line, the second line appears, and it appears but nothing else shows up. Eventually, like in Disk Utility (which makes sense), the entire computer freezes up. (I've waited hours)
Does anyone know why this tool might not be working? I know, when using the terminal, more dialog should show what it is working on, which is why I find it strange it doesn't even get past the "Started verify" point. For example, the following is supposed to show up eventually, but doesn't:
    +Checking HFS Plus volume.+
    +Checking Extents Overflow file.+
    +Checking Catalog file.+
    etc...
I used the command line to verify with fsck too. +(sudo fsck_hfs -l /dev/disk0s2)+ This worked. From what I can tell, the problems it generated were benign.
On a different note, the reason I want to do this is because I am trying to use Bootcamp Assistant 1.4 Beta to create an XP Partition (after I had to get rid of it due to a virus), but it gets stuck on the "Partitioning Disk", and the status (which doesn't show remaining time) just continues to stay the same after a few hours, eventually freezing the computer in the same way the Verify Disk does. See a theme here? I'm not sure if this is related or not.
So why does the Verify Disk tool not work for me? Anyone have any ideas? I'm hesitant to try to use the Disk Repair tool, without the Verify Disk tool working.
Thanks for any help! Oh, and Happy New Year!
    Michael

For some reason that didn't cross my mind. I booted with the OSX installer disk, and used DU and the Verify Disk worked!
Oddly enough when it finished I got an error message. Maybe that's just because the Verify encountered errors. It said:

I'm going to repair the disk, only after I backup my data. Not sure if these problems are 'benign' or not. Maybe that will solve my Boot Camp problems, maybe not. If not, well, it's either a complete reformat of the drive, or I'll have to buy Leopard so I can get Boot Camp support.
Thanks for your help again! So nice to see something working right on my Mac, finally

  • Is Time Capsule Apple's way of admitting AEBS Disks does not work?

The support/discussion area is full of posts from many of us who have struggled to find a working solution for our Airport Extreme Base Stations with an attached disk drive; our frustration and patience has been tested as this was a promised technology, advertised to work at sale of the AEBS. Moreover, Apple touted the wireless backup with Time Machine as Leopard got close to shipment, but pulled the technology at the last minute.
So my question to Apple is, are you now admitting that AEBS + Disk simply does not work, and if so what are you going to do for those of us to bought into a technology promise that has simply failed?
Any insight, suggestions, patches, or even communication would be a HUGE and welcome change given the misinformation we have endured to date.

Interesting points from several of you. I am sure if these are global issue I might not have encountered them due to my light usage of AEBS external disk to date. That stems of course from my heavy usage of my Linux server mentioned earlier. I am sure that I might encounter some of them if a moved all my data onto an "Air Disk."
It sounds however that the problems are more OS X / Air Disk Client issues than AEBS from this point of view. Without actively troubleshooting them it's hard telling. Just a couple thoughts - please ignore if already covered elsewhere:
    1. For the "after a couple days - vanished" issue: Have you also tried another OS other than OS X? (Windows, Linux, Solaris, BSD, anything with a samba client) Are you connecting via Air Disk or SMB? I do not know the internals of Air Disk, but I have been using the samba services of the AEBS.
    2. As for automount, this very much sounds like a problem with the Volume Manager in OS X. Have you sniffed the network to determine if the VM is sending out the request for mount?
    3. Finder not showing unless displayed/accessed via Desktop sounds 100% OS X problem.
    4. 10.4 vs. 10.5 issue again points to OS X.
    5. Access permissions: This is a common issue with NAS storage. Most times it comes back to end user not understanding the capabilities or poor/incomplete documentation of the product again causing misunderstanding. I would guess given the "it just works" mantra that the documentation is somewhat lack luster causing end user confusion.
    6. Time Machine Target: I agree and they should fix this. Especially with another near identical product being released. I expect an firmware update for the AEBS when TC is released.
I am not trying to be a PITA, just trying to lend my knowledge/experience to the community. I have been working with carrier class networking and storage for nearly a decade. That being said, I don't expect this device to keep pace with those environments or feature sets. This is old news for that space, but cutting edge for the SOHO and consumer space. There will be bumps in the road caused by both the vendor and end user.
I think the most important things to determine is if "Air Disk uses SMB/Bonj/etc or a proprietary application protocol. Then if the problem is with Air Disk or direct SMB access (or both.) Lastly it needs to be determined if this is a client (OS X / Air Disk) or server (AEBS) problem. These issues can not be solved until one device is pinpointed as the cause for each of these issues. Many of these in fact sound like client issues in OS X and it's supported applications. (Particularly TM sounds at fault since I can not use my SMB shares on my Linux server as a target.) I am willing to help troubleshoot, but only to an extent since we all paid Apple the money not me. =)

  • CWA using customized portal does not work IPAD 2

    Hi all,
I have another interesting case that I have been testing for more than a month but it is not working. Cisco provides templates to create the customized portals for LWA or CWA. However, Success Page HTML does not work on LWA and Cisco ISE uses internal default success page.
On my specific case, we need to move from LWA to CWA in order to minimize the number of redirections and the customized portal for login and AUP work fine BUT when the SUCCESS PAGE is presented on the IPAD, the button on the top right corner never changes from CANCEL to DONE even though the Authentication is successful. We modified multiple times the HTML Files following Cisco Templates and the following link (which looks like has an error) with the same incorrect behavior. Only works if I click the go back arrow on the IPAD so I move back to the AUP page (not an acceptable workaround).
    Reference Link:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/security/ise/how_to/HowTo-42-Customize_ISE12_Web_Portals.pdf
In the link, Cisco mentions version 1.2.0.899 patch 8 as the version to be used on the ISE devices running the customized templates. However, we recently moved from 1.1.3.124 to 1.2.1.198 patch 3. I created a brand new VM running 1.2.1.198 patch 3, imported the cisco templates for login, AUP, success and error and I am still getting the same problem on IPAD 2 for SUCCESS PAGE even though I am using Cisco Templates.
I could give a try configuring another VM running 1.2.0.899 patch 8 and use the Cisco templates + IPAD 2 but that is not a good solution.
Have anyone experienced the same problem?
    thanks

I opened a case with Cisco TAC, let's see what happens. In the meantime, I created a VM ISE which will be running 1.2.0.899 patch 8 so I will upload the Cisco HTML Files on it and see it this option works properly on IPAD 2, IPAD 4, Chromebook, Win 7 and Samsung Tablets.

  • NI Volumetrix used in FCP does not work as in Motion

    Hi,
Recently I purchased NI Glow and Zoom filters and created my title within Apple Motion and tried to use in both ways either as Master Template or as Motion file adding in the FCP TL.
It works fine in Motion and strange in FCP. Now when contacted NI they say to use as Nest -- here bit confused. I can understand the nesting probably means to create another alayer and place the filter in.
But I look forward to see some expert inputs from anyone of you who has already used this -- please.
My second problem is: I am unable to get the audio used in the Motion within FCP. Here also I tried both way 1. Creating a temple and used as master template withing FCP and 2. Use as Motion file -- either way Audio is missing in FCP. But, audio plays when browsing the Master template within FCP.

I think in this instance "nest in Motion" = bake.
Like those old cooking shows where you are making a pie, let's say it's an Apple pie for the sake of explaination. The chef, Steve Jobs,  Certified, or what have you shows you how to make the Apple pie then throws it in the oven and a few seconds later "bam" I mean "boom" or whatever it is SJ says @ keynote the Apple pie is taken out of the oven all cooked and ready-to-eat. In Motion you bake by creating your animation, exporting as QT then importing that QT into FCP. You don't have all the meat-and-potatoes of the Motion project file you just have the baked Apple pie err... QT movie
Reason why third party plug in filter *made for Motion(?) does not work in FCP could be anyone's guess. You asked manufacturers' advice and they told you to bake so they most likely don't even know what's up.
Not a "BUG" that a Motion project (not Motion+Audio as the name implies, mind you) does not include audio in the project file. It's the nature of the beast. It's made for Motion gfx not motion/audio mix.

  • Satellite P20: Fn+F5 and TV-button does not work

Satellite P20, Windows XP SP2 keyboard problem.
When I press Fn + F5, the computer does not show as earlier the different display options. TV button does not work also. I can change the different displays with my nVidia Display Driver.
My keyboard is OK, there is no dust or fluids. I have newest BIOS update and Windows XP Service Pack 2. What program controls the keyboard functions in this case?
    How to repair this problem?

    Hello
Obviously you have removed something or preinstalled your own operating system. Without Toshiba designed tools and utilities it will not work. I dont know exactly which of them are for doing this but please try to install Dritek Easy Button Util. /Sticky Keys V1.008, E-Keys Utilities and Toshiba Hotkey Utility.

  • How to reboot Satellite 5200-801 without using Recovery disk?

    Hi,
I haven't used my Satellite 5200-801 for a while and now it won't start. This is what I get on the black screen:
    Intel Boot Agent Version 4.1.04
    Copyright 1997-2002, Intel Corporation
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.
    Insert system disk in drive.
Press any key when tready .
I have the product recovery disk, but that will wipe all existing data and rebuild. Is there a way to start my PC without the use of recovery disk?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi Silas & radyRoberts,
Tried to access BIOS, but seem to have no luck. When I try to enter it during boot up, I get a black screen with the following:
Set default value? (Y/N) BIOS v1.20 (in right upper corner)
It doesn't matter if I press "Y" on "N" the result is the same, which is the original screen I already described.
I also tried the Microsoft Installation disk, but nothing happened with that either. It reads the CD, but on the screen nothing but the original message appears and even that after a reboot with the CD in. If I put it in when the PC is working and "press any key", nothing changes on the screen other than the original message re-appears after it tries to reboot, but realises it's not the system disk it asked for.
I did have a similar problem starting it about a year ago, when I previously used it, but then after few restarts, it got going again. That time I did a system and disk check and defrag, so all was well when I turned it off.
Wii check the HDD via HDD enclosure next as RandyRobers suggested.
Thanks for the suggests. Will let you know how and if it worked out.

Mac Mini running Mavericks 10.9.5, 2.5 GHz, 4GB memory, etc

"vi newfile" fails when I try to save using "w" or "w!":
Error message "out of memory (file system full??)", and only an empty file is created.
This is false as there is about 350 GB free on the hard drive.
    "ps" typically says:

xpcd 175% for first halfhour then very small, 1%.

  • Vista has left the building...and the Recovery Disks do not work correctly.

I've spent over a month and a half trying to fix my non-booting Satellite A215-S5818 running Vista.  Sometime mid-March (ah, the Ides of March!) I think I downloaded an automatic update and I remember the next time it booted my desktop was black; icons but no background picture.  Then I noticed on the bottom right it was saying my copy of Vista was not genuine.  I know that it is, because it is pre-installed.  So I ran check disk from the Properties page of C: in Windows Explorer. After it ran, I got BSOD.  At first I just booted into SafeMode and tried to disable whatever hardware/uninstall whatever software was causing the problem.  I think I got it to boot in SafeMode once or twice, then no more.  For a while I kept getting IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL, but I somehow stopped that through the command prompt(forum advice?).  Startup Repair could not fix it,  System Restore would not work on ANY restore points, even before March. The new BSOD error was:
    "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}-
The initial session process or system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000 (0xc0000221 0x00100594)"
From then on I could only get a command prompt through the Repair Console.  So I xcopy-ed my Users directory to an external hard drive and grudgingly booted from the Toshiba CD, knowing it would obliterate everything, but I was desperate.  I got the 03-EEEE-0000 error.  Now I have a plethora of useless(?) CDs and DVDs I have burned ISO images on of any Freeware I thought could fix it, downloaded from the Internet using my husband's Windows 7 desktop computer.  I followed these instructions to the letter and it worked (I guess; it started immediately, no DOS objection), but when it rebooted I got a window (!) saying something about the type of hardware.  I haven't added or changed any hardware, but I have updated the BIOS recently.  So I clicked OK (no other choice), and now every boot up I get a window saying "Windows could not complete the installation.  To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation".  Startup Repair does not find any problems.  Could it be the BIOS?  I have re-flashed it twice, no difference.

Oops! Sorry that was stupid on my part.
From the command prompt you could type in   systeminfo   , and hit the 'Enter' key, it will take a little while to run, when it finishes, scroll back up to the top and you'll see OS Version and Service Pack you've got loaded. But, if you're booting off the recovery disk, that's the system info you'll get.
If you can't get to the command prompt from the Advanced Boot Options menu, by trying to boot off the hard drive, and pressing F8, I'm not sure how you can find what Service Pack you have loaded.
By using the Recovery Boot Disk, have you exhausted all the recovery options that Jerry linked before?

  • My iphone 4 is disabled for 22 million minutes and the recovery mode does not work? How can I fix this?

I have tried to do the standard recovery mode where you hold down the home button and plug in the USB but Itunes is not recoginizing the phone. How can I fix this issue?

    Hello there, Itraziel.
Thanks for providing further clarification on your issue. The following Knowledge Base articles offer up some assistance depending on which Operating System your computer is running:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1538
    or
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1591
If you are still unable to restore the iPhone, this article may provide some more information:
If you can't update or restore your iOS device
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
    Use recovery mode
Recovery mode erases your device and restores it, which should resolve the issue. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you may be able to restore from your backup after recovery.
Turn off your device. If you can't turn it off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time and wait a few seconds for it to turn off.
Plug the device's USB cable into your computer only.
Hold down the device's Home button as you connect the USB cable to it.
When you see the Connect to iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 one more time.
iTunes should open and display a message such as: "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes."
Use iTunes to restore your device.
Thanks again for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
