Satellite L300D built-in microphone issue

I got my satellite L300D (model # PSLC8C-06100F) about a year ago, and when I first went to use skype it couldn't find a microphone.
I assumed that, unlike my previous satellite, the L300D just didn't come with a microphone built-in.
However, a couple of weeks ago I was on skype and having issues with the microphone headset I had plugged in, and when I unplugged it I suddenly had great sound coming through the built-in mic I thought wasn't there!
The problem is I haven't been able to so much as find it - let alone make it work again - since that one time.
What's going on here?
I obviously HAVE a built-in mic, but neither my computer nor skype can seem to find it.
If anyone out there can help me out on this I'd be very grateful!

I'm actually running windows 7 home premium (a free upgrade from vista came with the laptop), but when I followed your advice the options "configure microphone", "set up a microphone", "find and fix audio recording problems", and "manage audio devices" come up.
When I click on "configure microphone" I get a window that says "click on 'start' button to start the microphone configuration' which, when I do, pops up another window that says "generating source object failed".
When I click on "set up a microphone" I get a window pop up that says "No audio input device found: Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel", which doesn't exist (though I've looked through everything to do with audio I can find in my control panel, and everything keeps coming up empty to detect a microphone).
When I click on "find and fix..." I get a troubleshooting window pop up which performs a diagnostic and comes up with a window that says "plug in the microphone or headset: the peripheral device does not appear to be plugged in. Check the connection. Proceed to the next step to finish".
When I click on "Manage audio devices" I get the "sound" window with "playback, recording, sounds, communication" tabs. When I click on the "recording" tab it shows a microphone icon called "microphone: Realtek High Definition Audio" (which is also the name of the speakers!), but underneath it reads "Not plugged in"! When I plug in my headset mic it finds it and changes to "default device". The bottom of that window has an option to change default, but it's greyed out and won't let me select it.
Everything points to nonexistence of a built-in mic, but as I stated above I KNOW there is one because it randomly started working! What the hell is going on!!!???

  • Built-in microphone issue

    Hi,
I have an issue with my built-in microphone : it looks like it is "de-activated" or I don't know... I want to use the pronunciation option in Rosetta stone, but the mic is not "recognizing" any sound in the software. I checked in the System Preferences menu, under Sound, and when a select the mic line, the sound bar doesn't react when I talk. However, when I click to select "Input line", the mic seems to react for half a second, and then, nothing again.
    Any clues ?

Take your computer to an Apple Store or an AASP for a looksee. Hopefully, your MBP is still under warranty and/or you have Apple Care.

Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.

  • Satellite L300D-11A - DVD-drive issue and Blue Screen

    Hi
I'm going out of my mind :o//
My Satellite L300D-11A was delivered with a Windows Vista Home Premium, but I recently made a clean installation of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits.
Since then I have had problems with "Blue screen error's" comming randomly. Have purchased and installed a Registry clean up program, but that did not fix the problem. Any one else with that problem - and a possible solution.
And now for my big problem. My CD and DVD drive is driving me crazy ;o) It's a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA and from my search on the internet I have found that a lot of other Mat****a owners have had the same or similar problem(s). My drive will not regonize or play/read from CD's. DVD with movies or programs I can play. Burning CD's is not possible and burning DVD's is sometimes working, and other times not.
I have read about the different fixes that is posted - also here on the Toshiba forum - Non of the suggested solutions is working for me - any new solutions that I could try.
Seriously thinking about buying a external USB DVD drive/burner - but can someone please tell me why Toshiba does not get the fingers out off their B** and find a solution like it seams Sony has done.
Look forward to any reply ;o))
Someone once told me about this quote - "Don't wish it was easier - work on getting clever !" I need your help to get clever ;o))

    > But I do not now how/where to get the registration keys! I have tried looking for them.
Are you talking about *Upper/Lower Filters* ?
Follow these instructions for clearing the Upper/Lower Filters:
Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
    Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
    Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
    Expand the "Control" Key
    Expand the "Class" Key
    Please look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
High light this key by left clicking once on it
On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these please delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
Please exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen
    Reboot your computer

  • Built-in Microphone Issues

Put quite simply, the omnidirectional built-in microphone which sits next to my built-in iSight camera on my Macbook (Late 2006) does not receive any signal. Any prognoses?

Hmm. Create a new user account, log into the new account and see if the microphone works there. Check System Preferences under that account as well. Tapping the area on top/near the microphone should darken the blue dots next to "Input level."

  • Satellite A500 - Built in microphone stopped working

Hello everyone, Im new here but I found nowhere else to go.
I've never had problems with my microphone before and in the last 2 days it stopped working. The only thing I updated was my Windows, which is Windows 7 64 bit. The microphone is selected at the sound tab on the control panel but it just wont pick up sounds, just annoying static. I already downloaded the most up to date sounds driver from the Toshiba website and tried but it didnt help.
If anyone got an idea ill be thrilled, this is really affecting my studies.
    Thank you in advance,
    Jonathan.

    Hi buddy,
Do you use the microphone with an external application like Skype or how do you use it?
The microphone is a part of internal webcam so if you have some problems with the internal microphone I would recommend reinstalling the webcam driver that you can download on official Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
Remove the old webcam driver and restart the computer. Then try to install the newest one.

  • Lenovo Y550 Built-in Microphone issue

I recently installed Windows 7 RTM 64 bit on my laptop and my built in mic does not work.  Does anyone have a link for a working driver?  I did a clean install so it erased everything.  I got everything to work except for some buttons but the built in mic is the most important to me...  I also have a red light shinning out of my audio input jack.  Anyone else have this problem?  Thanks.

i'm using http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=207087 to get all my drivers back. right now their  all vista 64 bit but they work till i get upgrades. as for the mic problem, I'm trying the audio driver. I did the same as you so... hope it works out, i'll update when i get results.

  • Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4300 built in microphone not working

    Greetings,
Today I bought the Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4300. I was trying to use the built in microphone and it is not functioning. The video recorder appears to work fine. After searching around, I decided to download the most recent drivers from toshiba. I uninstalled the old audio device and installed the new drivers. After this process, the microphone still does not function. (Yes, I rebooted, and all standard good practices ) It appears to be listed in the recording devices and enabled. When I try to set it up, it does not detect any audio. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh it also runs Windows 8.1.
    Thank you.

  • Anyone else having issues with iMac built-in microphone?

My mom's brand new 24" iMac (running the latest version of Leopard) keeps having issues with the built-in microphone going dead. It can be resurrected with a restart and PRAM reset (command-option-P-R), but it is kind of annoying to have to do this every time she wants to Skype or iChat. Any ideas what might be causing this? She runs a fairly clean system with few peripherals or third-party software (except occasionally an external FW drive for backups, a Blu-Ray burner [not connected at the same time], and Toast). Thanks.

Even on restart with nothing else running, she can go into the System Preferences/Sound/Input and try testing the microphone and it is DOA. We did go through all of the prefs in Skype and they are all set right, she does try the Sound Test call in Skype to see if her audio is working and that is usually the indication that something is not right. Her broadband connection varies too much to have iChat work reliably if at all. She will be installing Snow Leopard soon, and I read that iChat only requires 300kbps bandwidth as opposed to 900kbps under Leopard so there is a possibility that there will be an alternative to Skype in the near future.
All her updates are installed. Repairing permissions was done less than a month ago, but it is worth a try again. Also will have her fire up Activity Monitor to see if there is anything else taxing the CPU. I am 2000 miles away so it is sometimes hard to maintain this machine properly from a distance.
Thanks for your input in trying to solve this mystery. BTW what do you think of using an external dedicated microphone? Kind of defeats the purpose/beauty of having it built-in with the iMac...

  • Does Satellite A205-5800 have a built in microphone?

Okay, I just bought this laptop from a local pawn shop, and I can't find an online manual so I am wondering if this top has a built in microphone. I updated the "realtek" audio driver. And when I go to the "recording device" it says " Microphone, high definition audio device, not plugged in. I was wondering if it doesn't have a built in mic, am I wasting my time looking for a driver for this? I can't even find this on the Toshiba website. Thank you for your time and expertise!

    Has this Satellite Webcam?
I ask it because every notebook with Webcam has a built in microphone.

  • How to deactivate built-in microphone on Satellite A100?

    Hi!
First of all I have a little bit silly question: Does my Satellite A100-547 has a built-in Microphone? If it has one - how can I deactivate it and use the external microphone of my headset?
If I want to talk to others in Teamspeak, the others can hear something even if the microphone of the headset isn't plugged in.
So I guess, there must be an built-in Micro ;-P

External microphone you can use if you connect it to MIC jack. TeamSpeak is not known to me but I presume in settings you can check functionality of connected sound devices. Test it!

  • Satellite L300D-12U - Two issues after Ubuntu Linux installation

    Hello,
I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my brand new Satellite L300D-12 U.
Up to now everything works fine but there are two things disturbing me.
    1. I have problem with Suspend to RAM. It does not work. If I use the standby option, the screen becomes black but the notebook is still running (you can hear it).
Furthermore nothing happens when I press the Power Button to exit the standby option.
I have to completely shut down the notebook and restart to be back in Ubuntu.
Maybe anybody have some ideas how can I solve the problem?
    My /etc/default/acpi-support have these entries:
    # Comment the next line to disable ACPI suspend to RAM
    ACPI_SLEEP=true
    # Comment the next line to disable suspend to disk
    ACPI_HIBERNATE=true
    # Change the following to "standby" to use ACPI S1 sleep, rather than S3.
    # This will save less power, but may work on more machines
    # ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem
    ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=standby
    2. Battery Life
My current maximum battery life is 1:10 hours. On windows it is > 2 hours. Maybe anybody have some configuration ideas to increase the battery time under Ubuntu?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Manuel

    Hello Manuel
I am really sceptic about Linux support here. I've heard that Toshiba will start some support with Linux but obviously it is not started yet.
If nobody here can offer some help I recommend you to discuss this on some Linux forum. You have more chance to get some help there.

  • Satellite C650-010 - Built in microphone not working

built in microphone did not work after three weeks. I tried to install new driver software from Toshiba website, but did not help. External webcam with microphone works well.
Yesterday microphone worked for ten minutes but then mute again.

    Hey,
    > I tried to install new driver software from Toshiba website
What driver software you have installed?
The microphone belongs to internal webcam so you have to reinstall the webcam driver if internal microphone doesnt work properly.
    > but then mute again.
Does this mean the internal microphone is muted? Please check the Windows sound settings if the microphone is listed properly under recording devices and set as default device.

  • I'm trying to get built-in microphone working on Satellite C850

    Dear Forum
I am trying to get the built-in microphone working on my C850.
Nothing is recorded if I use the sound recorder utility.
In the Recording tab the only microphone listed is a Realtek High definition Audio which is set as the default device, is enabled and mute is off.
Should this be an internal microphone?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    > While researching this I saw screenshots where the microphone was listed as 'Internal Microphone'. In my laptop it is listed as 'Realtek High Definition Audio'. Could my laptop not 'know' that it has a built-in microphone?
Obviously the notebook supports the Realtek HD audio driver.
I would recommend you to download and to install the latest Realtek HD audio driver which you could download directly from the Realtek page: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
