Satellite L300D - Using 20min on startup

It runs normally until it begins and load Vista. Is there a recovery system in the PC (F10 )?

Hi
The notebook was not delivered with recovery disk because there is a preinstalled tool which allows you to create the recovery disk. The recovery disk should be created at the beginning before using the notebook for anything else!
If you cannot start the HDD recovery procedure (press F8 -> repair my computer -> HDD recovery) then you will need to order the disk from here:

    > NB. If i restart the laptop boots so far and displays BOOTMGR is missing Ctrl Alt Del to restart...
Hmm... for me it looks like the notebook does not boot from the disk (DVD) but it tries to boot from the HDD....
Anyway, did you try to boot from another disks; for example Win XP, Linux Live CD?
Do this and check if this is possible... if yes, format the HDD and try to boot from the recovery disk again!
PS: Did you try an HDD recovery option?
Power up the unit, press F8 and in choose Repair my Computer
After that choose Toshiba HDD recovery option if possible.

  • Satellite L300D BSOD after upgrading to Windows 7

I've had this laptop (Satellite L300D) for a bit more than a year with windows vista (32-bit) running and there have been no problems. However, i just recently upgraded to Windows 7 (x64) and have gotten problems since the first reboot.
On the first reboot after windows 7 installation, the computer simply turned off after the "Starting Windows" screen. Powering it up again took me to system repair where it performed a system restore and i was able to boot successfully again. I thought the problem had something to do with the automatic updates so i disabled them and tried to reboot to see if the problem was fixed. This time, after the "Starting Windows" screen i got a Fatal System Error BSOD. After multiple reboot attempts and multiple system repair attempts (which usually said it failed) it successfully booted up again.
This problem has been going for about 3 weeks now and it's quite irritating. The results from the system repair claims that a "Boot Critical File is Corrupt" but it does boot up eventually after multiple attempts to boot. It also has a habit of turning itself off randomly while running (happens about once or twice a day). So as of now, everytime i try to start my comp it either turns off after the startup screen or gives the BSOD and restarts and the only way to get it working seems to be to keep attempting to boot and hope for a successful boot up (this eventually happens after a few failed attempts).
I did a bit of research on this and came to [this|http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?modelFilter=L300D-ST3501&rpn=PSLC8U&category=&selCategory=3&moid=222 1251&os=&ct=DL&selFamily=1073768663] page. I think that's exactly what my problem is (need to update BIOS) but as i understand the windows install for that is only for xp/2000/vista and i'm unable to use the second option of booting from disc as i get the BSOD before it gets to that point. Should i try the windows install option even though i'm running windows 7 or is there some other way to update the BIOS? Or am i completely off and the problem is with something else?
I wasn't sure what information i should add to this post so if any further information is required please let me know.
    Thanks in advance
Edit: Oops, just realised the page i linked doesn't link to exactly what i had opened. I'm talking about the "Critical BIOS updates for 64-bit Windows 7" under "Support Bulletin"

    Hi
First of all it would be interesting to know which BSOD code you get exactly. Can you post this useful information? Normally on the Microsoft Knowledge Base you can find additional informations about the most BSOD codes and so you can start to fix this issue.
BSOD are often related to drivers or RAM/HDD. Latter you can check with special diagnostic tools, Memtest86 for RAM and Drive Fitness Test for HDD. Both tools are freeware and you can find it by using Google. You can download an iso image of them to create a bootable media where you can start the test.
Regarding your BIOS update: I dont know which L300D you have exactly but according the Toshiba website it shows a BIOS update also for Windows 7 64bit. You can try to install it.

  • Satellite L300D-21P - Installation of Windows Vista 32bit failed

    Hi!
I have recently bought a Toshiba Satellite L300D-21P and now I wanted to install Windows Vista Business 32bit.
But the installation always stops at the point where the screen says "Completing installation ... ".
Do you have any idea what I have to do to solve this problem?
Thank you very much for your answers!
    Greetz
    Stefan

If you are using the Toshiba Recovery disk then you dont need to install SATA drivers.
If you are using Microsoft disk then you will need the SATA drivers.
But if the error message says that the installation is complete then the HDD has been recognized properly and you should not need the SATA drivers in such case.
    > From where do I get the SATA-drivers?
It looks like your notebook supports AMD CPU and ATI chipset.
Graphic card driver contains the chipset driver and the necessary SATA drivers.
The graphic card driver contains the different folder and the drivers are placed in folder:
    Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\Filter\NB

  • Cannot connect to wireless on Satellite L300D-13S

Bought this new laptop Satellite L300D-13S
The wireless doesn't seem to work, the switch and light are on and the divice manger shows theres nothing wrong with the driver my hub seems to be working fine with my older laptop etc so i think my hubs ok. Is this a commen problem?
Its a BT home Hub if that helps and if i use the cable from the hub to the laptop it works fine and conects up with out a problem, please help

    Hello,
To connect your notebook to the router wirelessly should not be big problem. The principle on all Toshiba notebooks is the same.
At first be sure the WLAN card is installed properly. The status can be checked in device manager.
Be sure the WLAN card is also enabled properly Move the WLAN switch to ON position (WLAN LED must be ON). After doing this use FN+F8 key combination and be sure option ON is chosen.
So now the WLAN card should be enabled properly.
Click on START > Connect To and Connect to a network window will be shown. On the right side click on refresh button and hopefully available WLANs will be listed. If your favourite WLAN is listed there click on it and then on Connect button. On the next step enter WLAN key (if the network is encrypted) and you should have connect to the router.
If the WLAN is not visible then it can be because of false settings on the router. If your router is not so old check WLAN settings there and enable automatic mode (data transfer speed). Maybe your old notebook has WLAN card A/B and new one runs on G (54 MBit/s transfer speed). Be sure this mode is enabled too.

  • Satellite L300D-135 - Certain keys stop working after several minutes

Satellite L300D-135 (PSLC8E-02P013EN) model laptop, on cold boot the keyboard is fine. As things warm up the R and Y keys stop responding as do the 7890 keys. Might be heat related.
The keyboard has been replaced but both old and new do the same thing, so it's more like a controller problem. Have flashed BIOS to latest as saw mention of keyboard issues in one of the BIOS releases. End user has been tolerating this for some months but dyslexic child now needs to use laptop and cannot cope with dead keys.
Any ideas? Laptop is 2 weeks out of warranty and end user just asked me to take a look, problem has been around during warranty period.
    Phil

    Hi Phil
Can you notice the same issue if you connect an external keyboard or does this happen only with an internal one?
I cant imagine that this has something to do with the heat but if you want you can clean your notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators.
If not you have to replace the whole keyboard. Normally its not so expensive so dont worry about this. You can also ask your ASP if they can repair it as gesture of goodwill.

  • Re: Is Satellite L300D provided with recovery disk?

    Hi,
I do not get a recovery disk when I bought my Satellite L300D.
Does anyone know If Satellite L300D is provided with recovery disk?
As far as i know computers manufactured from mid 2007 are no longer provided with recovery disks for the operating system. How do I know what year my satellite is manufactured?
    Many thanks

All new notebook models including your one are delivered without recovery DVD.
Recovery image is saved on second partition in folder called HDDRecovery.
Akuma is right. You must create recovery media using preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". The shortcut you can find on the desktop. Please do this and for recovery media creation I recommend you to use high quality DVD-R media like TDK or Verbatim.
You can install OS using F8 button at start up. The guideline how to do this you can find under http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD9102IR0000R01.htm
Please note. This can be done if this recovery image is not modified or if you install other operating system on first partition. the second partition can be in original state but this F8 option will be gone.
If you have more questions please let me know.

  • Vista on Satellite L300D-10A - Graphics card resetted after renstallation

    This is my story.
A few weeks ago my computer had crashed, so I decided to renstall Vista (Home Premium). After I did so, I noticed a lot of things had changed. For example, my screensaver didn't work anymore, and certain programs said they needed a video card wih 3D support. I knew i had a video card with 3d support, as these programs worked fine before the renstallation.
Then I looked around on the web, and I found more posts from people with the same problem, so I looked if I had an installation disk of the latest video drive for my video card, but i haven't got one. So, now I ask if someone knows where I can get the latest version, so I can continue using these programs.

    Hello
Please don't understand me wrong but the whole story is somehow strange.
Fact is that every Toshiba notebook is delivered with factory state. Your notebook too and after first start you got default Toshiba settings. What you have done later nobody knows. Maybe you have installed some additional software and third part software. Who knows?
Now after clean OS installation you have these factory settings again and absolutely identical state after purchase and first start. this with screensaver is strange but it should work (Windows screensaver).
Software configuration of your notebook is not known to us and it is not easy to say what you are missing exactly.

  • Windows 7 display driver error on Satellite L300D

Hey guys, I have recently upgraded the OS on my Satellite L300D (PSLC8A), from Vista 32bit to Win7 32bit, but I need a better driver for the graphics card, an ATI Radeon 3100 256MB, and every time I try and run either the Win7 driver from the ATI website, or even the graphics drivers from the Toshiba websites (Ive tried the Vista display driver, the display driver for the Satellite L300D-ST3501 from the European website for windows 7 display driver etc etc) and every time I try, I get the same message, it goes through the entire process, then says it fails, always failing at the same part, at the ATI Display Driver installation
Am I trying the wrong driver? Is there not one out for my laptop for 7? I dont quite understand, and any help would be appreciated
Also like to point out, that Ive attempted to allow it to tell me when Win7 finds something new and needs permission, and have tried running *every* time in admin mode.

    Hi
First of all you should find out what graphic card is built-in.
Install an free hardware diagnostic tool. You could use Everest Home Edit. for example.
This would help you to get more details about your GPU.
After that you could investigate a little bit what Toshiba notebooks have been equipped with the same graphic card chip.
I noticed that many series use the same devices like the same graphic card or chipset
Anyway. The Toshiba US driver page contains many Win 7 drivers you will find also some Win 7 drivers on Toshiba European driver page
Download the ATI driver for a notebook which has been equipped with the same graphic chip and you would get the compatible one!
Then install the driver in device manager! Yes, go to device manager and use the advanced installation this allows you to point to the ATI driver files.
    This installation procedure should work

  • Satellite L300D-12U - Two issues after Ubuntu Linux installation

    Hello,
I have installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my brand new Satellite L300D-12 U.
Up to now everything works fine but there are two things disturbing me.
    1. I have problem with Suspend to RAM. It does not work. If I use the standby option, the screen becomes black but the notebook is still running (you can hear it).
Furthermore nothing happens when I press the Power Button to exit the standby option.
I have to completely shut down the notebook and restart to be back in Ubuntu.
Maybe anybody have some ideas how can I solve the problem?
    My /etc/default/acpi-support have these entries:
    # Comment the next line to disable ACPI suspend to RAM
    ACPI_SLEEP=true
    # Comment the next line to disable suspend to disk
    ACPI_HIBERNATE=true
    # Change the following to "standby" to use ACPI S1 sleep, rather than S3.
    # This will save less power, but may work on more machines
    # ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=mem
    ACPI_SLEEP_MODE=standby
    2. Battery Life
My current maximum battery life is 1:10 hours. On windows it is > 2 hours. Maybe anybody have some configuration ideas to increase the battery time under Ubuntu?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Manuel

    Hello Manuel
I am really sceptic about Linux support here. I've heard that Toshiba will start some support with Linux but obviously it is not started yet.
If nobody here can offer some help I recommend you to discuss this on some Linux forum. You have more chance to get some help there.

  • Satellite L300D-13S - How can i restore with corrupt disk 2

The laptop is a Satellite L300D-13s.
I tried to restore the laptop using the restore disks, the first disk worked fine but it did not recognize the second disk. No matter what I did I could not get it to read this disk.
I then tried to us the F8 option to restore the drive but I got the message Bootmgr missing. I have tried F8 using the DVD but this does not have a restore option.
Using the boot option with logging I did manage to access the E drive and view the HDDRecovery directory but could not find anything that would allow me to run a restore.
Is there an option to do a restore this way, or can I restore another way?
Your help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hello
Recovering procedure can be done on two ways:
    -Using recovery CD/DVDs or
    -Starting recovery procedure from HDD
If there is problem with created discs then you must try to use option two. It works as follow:
-Start your notebook and press F8 to enter Advanced Boot Options
-There you will see option Repair my computer
-Choose this option and follow menu on the screen.
-Then you will come across System Recovery options
-The last option is Toshiba recovery procedure. Choose it and follow menu on the screen.
Please note: this will work if you didnt change partition structure, installed own OS or removed HDDRecovery folder.
At the end I must say, if nothing helps and if you are not able to install OS using any of these methods I see one solution only: you must order new recovery DVD.

  • Satellite L300D built-in microphone issue

I got my satellite L300D (model # PSLC8C-06100F) about a year ago, and when I first went to use skype it couldn't find a microphone.
I assumed that, unlike my previous satellite, the L300D just didn't come with a microphone built-in.
However, a couple of weeks ago I was on skype and having issues with the microphone headset I had plugged in, and when I unplugged it I suddenly had great sound coming through the built-in mic I thought wasn't there!
The problem is I haven't been able to so much as find it - let alone make it work again - since that one time.
    What's going on here?
I obviously HAVE a built-in mic, but neither my computer nor skype can seem to find it.
If anyone out there can help me out on this I'd be very grateful!

I'm actually running windows 7 home premium (a free upgrade from vista came with the laptop), but when I followed your advice the options "configure microphone", "set up a microphone", "find and fix audio recording problems", and "manage audio devices" come up.
When I click on "configure microphone" I get a window that says "click on 'start' button to start the microphone configuration' which, when I do, pops up another window that says "generating source object failed".
When I click on "set up a microphone" I get a window pop up that says "No audio input device found: Make sure your audio hardware is working properly and check your audio configuration in the Audio Devices and Sound Themes control panel", which doesn't exist (though I've looked through everything to do with audio I can find in my control panel, and everything keeps coming up empty to detect a microphone).
When I click on "find and fix..." I get a troubleshooting window pop up which performs a diagnostic and comes up with a window that says "plug in the microphone or headset: the peripheral device does not appear to be plugged in. Check the connection. Proceed to the next step to finish".
When I click on "Manage audio devices" I get the "sound" window with "playback, recording, sounds, communication" tabs. When I click on the "recording" tab it shows a microphone icon called "microphone: Realtek High Definition Audio" (which is also the name of the speakers!), but underneath it reads "Not plugged in"! When I plug in my headset mic it finds it and changes to "default device". The bottom of that window has an option to change default, but it's greyed out and won't let me select it.
Everything points to nonexistence of a built-in mic, but as I stated above I KNOW there is one because it randomly started working! What the hell is going on!!!???

  • Satellite L300D - Webcam error messages

    I'm running Vista 32bit on a Satellite L300D.
I have recurring problems with the built in Chicony webcam. Basically it frequently stops working (I only use it with Skype), giving me various error messages but most commonly "Can't start video. Try closing other programs which might be using your webcam...". A restart of my laptop usually fixes it but only temporarily.
I have downloaded the Camera Utility software and drivers from the Toshiba website but it hasn't solved the problem.
Anyone out there who can suggest a solution, I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I uninstalled all versions of the Camera Assistant software and uninstalled the webcam driver. I then used C Cleaner to delete old registry files. I restarted the laptop. I then downloaded and installed the webcam driver for the A500, and restarted when prompted. When the laptop was back on, the webcam software was working fine, and so was Skype (as always happens after a restart). However, I'd read elsewhere online that this bug is to do with when the laptop goes to sleep, so I turned it onto sleep, and then back on again... and I get the same error message on Skype and the webcam software tells me "Web camera initialization. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer."
So, any other ideas as to what the problem might be?

  • Satellite L300D-11V - After new installation I have few issues

I had a major crash a few weeks ago which took out the main partition on my hard drive (although the other partition seems to be fine) and I installed Windows XP Pro on a brand new hard drive with a view to installing Windows 7 in the near future.
I found some drivers which I burnt onto disc and installed them on my new hard drive but now I'm having problems with the laptop in certain areas:
    - I can't get the USB ports to work at all even though I thought I installed the correct drivers.
    - I can't access the Internet via WiFi although the Ethernet connection works fine and I thought I had installed the correct drivers.
    - The Touchpad is running really slowly and in some cases, it takes an age to click on something like a "X" button to close software or anything else...
Can anyone tell me how I can fix these problems as well as how to get my laptop fully up and running with Windows XP Pro.

Your Satellite L300D belongs to PSLC0E models. I have checked Toshiba download page and your notebook is not supported for WXP operating system.
Toshiba doesnt offer any tested driver for your notebook model.
You have installed non-supported OS and now you want to have all hardware components work perfectly. How? Should someone search drivers for you or what?
It will be better for you to use supported Vista you got as recovery image. To install Win7 is good idea and I can imagine your notebook will be supported and all necessary drivers will be available in the future.
I will do the same with my A300.
