Satellite L305D - Cannot partition the HDD - Vista

I have a new Satellite L305D toshiba laptop that i am unable to partition.
It runs on windows vista.
I have freed the hdd up to 74gb out of 120 gb capacity.
Recently i used paragon partition utility that reports cross linked files and hence is unable to do the partition.
The Vista shrink utility does not even display anything it appears as 0.

Hi
What type of partitions you have now exactly?
Maybe you can post a screenshot of Vista disk management utility because Im a little bit confused now. You wrote about 74GB free space and Vista doesnt show anything
I hope this can help you a little bit:

  • Satellite A200-10X: How to partitioning the HDD

    Hi there guys!
I have a pro with my satellite A200-10X, it has only one HDD volume, and i want to make them two... and everytime i use the product recovery CD, it formats the HDD... but i do not know how to partition the HDD two get two volume spaces...
and whats worse is that when i keep on doing that over and over it eats the HDD free space... so how can i partition the HDD and recover the 200GB space the computer originally have?
    i appreciate your help ..
    thanx

    Hello Sherif
If you use delivered recovery media you have follow options:
    1. the whole HDD capacity can be used for partition C
    2. the HDD capacity can be split and you can create two partitions
When you use both options Vista will create 1,4 GB partition but this partition will not be visible when you use OS.
If you want to have two partitions (C and D) start recovery procedure and after choosing the language use SETUP button on the right side. In the middle of the screen occurs small window and there you can set how much capacity should be reserved for partition C. when the recovery procedure is finished and Vista starts open Computer Management.
On the left side choose Disk Management. After doing this on the left side you will see partition marked as black. This is second partition but still not visible. Click there with right mouse button and choose option to create logical drive. Follow the setup procedure.
After few steps this partition will be set as logical drive and after formatting it will be visible in Vista Explorer.
If you have more questions please post again.
    Bye

  • Satellite L650 - Cannot start the Office 2010 - icon has changed

    I have a new Satellite L650.
Using the Office 2010 icon on the desktop and my software code I installed the program.
Now I can't find it and the changed office icon says only for use for installed programs.
Where is it? Not in the listed programs.

    Hi mate
Office is a package which contains several single applications like MS Word, Outlook, etc... so you will not be able to start Office clicking on Office icon.
If you want to start MS Word for example, then you will need to choose this software.
Usually you could find this going to Start button -> All Programs -> MS Office.

  • Cannot partition the HD

Please forgive me. I know this question has been asked before, but I need some clarification.
I am attempting to partition the HD on my late 2009 iMac (21.5 in). I tried to partition it to 100 GB and then 64GB and keep getting the error message that it can't be done because some files could not be moved. I have over 800GB of free space on my HD which I thought would be plenty.
I have seen it mentioned that a defrag would help, but I was under the impression that Macs really did not need to be defragged.
I have also seen that I need to back up and reinstall from the start up disk. I was hoping to avoid that since I do not have an external HD.
Is there any other solution to this problem? Thanks

Boot camp needs free space that is contiguous, to achieve that get an external drive and a copy of SuperDuper and make a clone of your hard drive. When cloning is complete and you have verified that all is ok (boot from the external) you may erase your internal and put the SuperDuper clone back on it. Boot Camp will then partition your drive.

  • Satellite P300-23M - Has the HDD 4200rpm?

    Hi,
Is the information right, that the HDD has only 4200rpm?
    Or is it a mistake?
    THX

What do you with the notebook?
If you use the notebook only for Internet, emails and office the 4200rpm HDD is fast enough.
I think a faster HDD is only useful if you often work with big files with a lot of GB.
Furthermore a faster HDD doesn't improve the game performance.
Dont forget that a HDD with more rpm is not so quiet.

  • Satellite P100 - Cannot delete the data from CD-RW disks

    I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop.
According to the User Manual it says:
You cannot partially delete any data written to a CD-RW
I thought the whole idea of using a CD-RW was so you could delete whatever you wanted to and use that part of the disc again and again.
    Can someone explain?

I didnt find this info in user manual and if you have burned some data on the CD-RW disks then it should be possible to format such CD-RW using an 3rd party tool like Nero Burning ROM for example.
I did it many times using Nero and was always successful

  • How to best partition the HDD for dual boot: Windows 8 & Linux

    Hi,
I'm a newbie in Windows 8, linux, Partition....
I would like to use my new laptop with windows 8 pre-installed to the following:
Create a Dual Boot Windows 8 / Ubuntu
Create on my C drive (unique drive on my laptop):
    *a partition for the system
    *one for Windows 8
    *one for Data and
    *last one for Ubuntu OS
    My aim is :
-to install VmWare on Windows 8 and run Checkpoint Splat with virtual machines to perform CCSA labs.
to install GNS3 on Ubuntu for CCNP labs but with GNS3 accessing files in the Data partition
I have a Toshiba Satellite with 750Gb and 8 Go RAM.
According to you what's the best size for my partitions?
Is there a better way to partition my C drive regarding my aim?
    Best Regards

    Hi,
    Thank you all,
Isn't it too much 200G for Windows as i will on ly install VMWARE Workstation 9 for lab purposes and possibly a few softwares.
VMWARE installed on Windows will require 2 GB + 1 GB per host (i will use approximatively 15 hosts).
Checkpoint products will be installed on VMWARE that is installed in Windows :
    - disk space needed for 3 Checkpoint gateways: 3*37 GB
    - disk space needed for 2 Checkpoint gateways management servers: 2*10 GB
On Linux I'll install GNS3 with 10 GB disk space required and a few softwares.
I've got a Toshiba stellite computer with Windows 8 pre-installed.
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3210M CPU @2.5 Ghz
    RAM: 8 Go
    64 bits OS, processor x64
    See below the screenshot
I've taken screenshot of my partition (below).
    * Don't take into account the disk 1 (E) partition
Can u confirm that in Disk o, partitions with 450 Mo, 260 Mo and 9.48 Go are for recovery system?
I am planning to let the recovery partition as it is and divide the TI30985500A (C) partition (688 Gb) into:
    - 200 Gb windows partition
    -100 Gb Linux partition
    -388 Gb data partition
What do you think about this partionning regarding the informations i've provided above?

  • Satellite A200 - Cannot downgrade the BIOS to v2.40

    Please Help me.
I bought a brand new toshiba Satellite A200 series laptop with vista home premimum in it.
For some reasons I'm not a big vista fan.
So i downgraded my OS to XP and as i was searching for drivers and all for XP i saw a Bios update for my laptop it was 5.20 which was for XP. While for Vista its 2.40 as per mentioned on website.
Now from here my problems started.
I downloaded that v5.20 bios and updated it.
Soon problems started like laptop gets overheated, it freezes, and sometimes refuse to give performance.
As i was unable to find all my drivers for XP i switched back to Vista with the help of my recovery DVD. But the problem remained the same with Vista also so finally i took my laptop to a Toshiba Service Centre.
They said there is a problem in motherboard so they fixed it but they didn't fixed the Bios.
I still have v5.20 on my machine.
I tried to downgrade to v2.40 but it always shows an error.
Can Anyone pls help me.. I'm able to boot with a USB thumbdrive but i don't have a DOS version of Bios v2.40.
Please if anyone can provide me with my version of bios.
I will be grateful to he/she forever.
    here are my system specs.
    Date 2009/01/26 03:04:19
    [PC Information]
    Model Name Satellite A200
    Part Number PSAFCL-01M00P
Not even this when i buyed the laptop it showed me 749 something as shared Graphic memory now it only shows around 399.
I know this is all because of that Bios update.
Now im not even able to play good games.
This machine is almost useless for me now.
Any help from you people will do.

thanky you very much for ur response and time Raver.
i have the reasons for downgrade i hope u'll understand. Here they are :-
    1. From the very 1st day i upgraded to v5.20 my problems started which led me to take my machine to an ASP.
    2. Problems Started like overheating, freezing, BDOS, and performance degradation.
    3. Shared Video Graphic memory declined to only 399 is this am i suppose to get ??? i remember well that before upgrade to v5.20 it was higher than 749 something. i have a Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 Gfx with 2GB of Ram in my Notebook.
    4. I'm unable to play Good Games, the games lags and its performance disappoints me. before upgrade those games were running smoothly.
All I'm asking u guyz is for a correct version of my bios which is v2.40 if u can provide me that i will be grateful becaose im fed up this v5.20 it is making my notebook a peice of trash day by day.
Please look in this matter and give me some more of ur precious time in searching correct version 2.40 for my notebook

  • Satellite M40X - cannot install the LAN driver

    Heya,
I wonna install a LAN with my notebook and my home-pc. There is just this one problem, that my M40X don't like it. I connectet my homepc and the toshiba with a cross-over calble. It worked at my home pc. Both winXP. The toshiba one shows me "cannot find network-cable".
I installed the driver u can get here in the page, nothing. all firewalls are down.
I know that there is a patch for win2000 but not for winXP.
    can someone help, please.

    Hi
Are you sure that the cable is plugged solid?
Did you try to connect the unit with different cable?
In my opinion you can try to run the Toshiba Pc diagnostic tool and ConfigFree and check the result.
Sadly, I dont have any informations about some patches

  • Satellite M30x: Cannot install the VAP - ID-ERR-NOTINSTALLTVALTZ

    Hi,
I have got a little problem with my Sat M30x and Vista system. I need to change the cooling method to slow down the CPU fan as I did in WinXP using Toshiba Power Saver.
Unfortunately, the utility does not seems to be available for Vista.
I have tried to search for some solution which might be Toshiba Valued Added Package. It is supposed to add the method change option into Vista power settings, but I am unable to install the program - ends with an "ID-ERR-NOTINSTALLTVALTZ-MESSAGE" error.
General advice is a bios update, but the latest version I have found - 1.90, ATI video - is already installed.
Please, is there any way to get rid of the noisy fan without downgrading the OS?
    Thanks a lot.

I wonder where you have found the VAP (Value Added Package) for this notebook model.
I checked the Toshiba European driver page and found some drivers for Visa 32bit in Archive area
    But there is NO VAP!!!!
Therefore Ive got only one explanation why this error occurs; you have tried to install this software which is NOT compatible with Sat M30X!!!

  • My Satellite cannot recognize the new HDD

I bought a new hard drive for my laptop. After installing it I got message no fixed drive found. I updated the bios from Toshiba site and the same message is still there.
I have also tried the drive in another laptop. It was recognized properly so I formatted it an installed Windows XP Pro on it. It worked ok so I tried it again in my laptop but message saying put system disk in press any key. So I put XP disk in it starts the install and then starts to transfer files and gives message no hard drive found so it still does not find the hard drive.
    Please can anyone help?
    Ken

    Hi Ken
It would be very nice to know the exactly notebook name.
I suppose the BIOS cannot recognize the HDD because of the HDD size.
It would be very interesting to know if the HDD is supported and compatible with this notebook

  • Cannot Partition Mac OS X HDD?

    Hi Guys,
So I've installed boot camp several times in the past but for some reason I am having trouble this time.
Basically, when I go to the Boot camp setup utility it as usual goes to partition the HDD at my specified amount, however when it gets to about halfway done a message pops up saying that the disk cannot be partitioned and that I need to backup and then format my HDD to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)"... but the thing is, it is already Mac OS Extended (Journaled)!
The only reason I don't want to erase and start over is because when I backup using Time Machine and then wipe the computer, even though everything is saved in Time Machine when I restore it I still have to go and reinstall most of the applications after the restore.
Is there any way to avoid having to erase the disk? Is there something that is causing this error?
    Thanks for any assistance!!!

Use SuperDuper (free for full volume clone/copy).
    Makes a bootable image.
    Restores nicely.
Everything works (you should boot from and test out your backup).

  • Bootcamp won't partition my HDD what do I do?

I was testing around with Bootcamp for the first time. I partitioned the HDD accidently and then removed the partition in Disk Utility. I went to make sure everything was ok and i partitioned again. It says "The Disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved" then it says "Back up the disk and use disk utility to format it as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Restore your information to the disk and try using Bootcamp Assistant again.
    PLEASE HELP
sadly i need to use Windows 7 on my MacBook Pro
    ONE PROBLEM
I don't have an external hard drive to back my MBP up to!!!!

The error message you've received means that the computer is unable to free up the necessary block of hard drive space. Even though the drive is large enough to be partitioned to the size you've requested, there is at least one large file that cannot be moved out of the contiguous block you want to partition. The simplest way to fix this problem is to do as BootCamp recommends: backup the drive and then erase it and restore from the backup. When it is restored, the files will all be placed in a single group so that you'll be able to partition the drive.
Your best bet is to acquire an external drive and then keep using it for backing up with TimeMachine after you've gotten BootCamp running. The only other possibility is to buy a 3rd party defragmentention program. The problem is, (a) there's no guarantee it will work any better than Disk Utilities' defrag program and (b) any defragging program you buy will cost nearly as much (or even more) than a USB external drive, and (c) defragging a drive that isn't backed up is pretty foolhardy.

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 - After XP installation nothing works

I recently had an error with my Satellite L305D-S5934, it was running vista. It wouldn't wouldnt start up so I had to install Windows XP, but now nothing works.
Is there something i can do to get the video graphics back to normal and wifi and everything that was factory on the laptop?

    Hi drftking23,
    > but now nothing works.
    Wow, very detailed! :D
Anyway, I think the problem is that you need drivers for your hardware so WLAN, LAN and all other devices dont work.
Everything what you need you can download on Toshiba US page where you can find your notebook model:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com
But let me give you a word of advice: Just use the Toshiba recovery disk where all drivers and tools are preinstalled. This disk contains a ready image of factory settings with all drivers and tools, its pretested and configured by Toshiba.
    Maybe its an option ;)
