Satellite L305D-S5934 - Serious Over Heating.

I posted about this before and believed it fixed.
I use the laptop listed in the subject. Satellite L305D-S5934.
I downgraded to Windows XP Professional, after having numerous issues with Vista. Only change from stock features.
Recently I have noticed the left side of the laptop (Where the vent is) heating up to a almost burning state.  The vent is untouchable.  I notice the effect is at its fullest whenever a larger program is open. Warm when only system processes are running, hot when Firefox is running, and Foremen Grill style when World of warcraft is open.
I've tried QnC through Bios, it cools it, but at the cost of my laptop dragging so slow, nothing is possible.  In Windows QnC only seems to work when the system is idle.  Any activity (at all) reverts it back to standard speeds.
Can anyone suggest what could be causing this?  Or suggest a program that might help underclock my processor to a speed faster then QnC but still slower then max speed.
Thank you in advanced.  And I apologize for having so many issues. ;D

Have you attempted to take the laptop apart, to see if the fan or heat sink fins are clogged with dust?  It is actually fairly easy to do on an L305/L305D.  If the fins are clogged, it will have serious issues with cooling.  I just recently had to take my mother's laptop apart, as her's was getting hot enough to burn her leg.  I found dust/fur/etc packed between the fan blades and the fins of the heat sink.  It was about the size of a small pack of wrigley's gum.  Once removed, her laptop runs at the proper temp once again.
I also suggest setting the laptop on a desk, tray table, or notebook cooler.  Setting it directly on your lap will block the fan, and increase the risk of pulling in debris from your clothes.

  • Satellite L305D-S593 - Disk read error

My Toshiba Satellite L305D-S593 has suddenly shut off. At first I thought it had just over heated or something, but when I tried to turn back on it gave me a message saying disk read error press ctrl alt dlt to restart. I did multiple time to the same effect. So then I tried reinstalling windows I got lucky if it showed the installation screen once it did I followed the instructions for a clean install (I had to do this once before but for different reasons).
Once it brought me to menu were I select a partition to install on I told it to do it on the main HDD after that and some loading time it told it was unable to complete the formatting required. So I redid the process and I noticed the the partition said it had 288GB of memory available but before this I only had about 40. So instead I clicked the format button and it said it could not complete the action because the disk is about to fail.
P.S. My processer is a 64 bit AMD Turion dual core mobile processor, with 4GB of RAM

    Hey,
In my opinion it has something to do with HDD itself I assume its a defective sector if Windows installation cant format the HDD properly. I mean before you tried reinstalling Windows the system could not start due to a disk read error. This would mean the files on HDD are muddled up due defective sectors
Can you install Windows from Toshiba recovery disk?
If it doesnt work too I would try to replace the HDD. Usually this is not complicated and can be done in 5 minutes.
Furthermore you can check the HDD for errors with special diagnostic tools like Drive Fitness Test. Google a little bit for such tools, they are freeware so its no problem to find them. ;)

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 Boot Problems - HELP!

I'm sure this question has been asked, or I could find the information elsewhere, however, I'm neither computer savvy nor patient enough to look for this info. Therefore, I need some help with a problem on my Satellite L305D-S5934 laptop. When I "power-up" the unit, I get this Windows Boot Manager message:
Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.
This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.
If you continue to recieve this erroe message, contact the hardware manufacturer.
               File:  \Boot\BCD
               Status:  OxcOOOOOe9
Info:  An unexpected I/O error has occured.
    ENTER=Continue                                                                                                                            ESC=Exit
Every time I get to this point, and then hit enter to continue, it acts like it might boot up, then it goes blank. I don't know a lot about computers. We've had this laptop for roughly 6-7 weeks now, and haven't had a problem. We've never used a portable storage device on it, ever, and it is used for nothing more than my wife on Facebook, and checking e-mail and IMDB while watching movies. Basically a play computer while watching TV. It worked fine until last Wednesday, then it just did this after shutting down one night. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

  • Satellite L305D-S5938

    Hi
i have  Toshiba Satellite L305D-S5938 and i lost my recovery cd how i can get 1 or download it ??
and how i can downgrade it from Vista to Windows XP ???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

QUERY:  i lost my recovery cd how i can get 1 or download it ??
RESPONSE:  No download is allowed, must pruchase the Reovery Disc, go to www.toshiba.com or use  (800) 457-7777 speak to customer service=have full model# available.  Keep in mind that those discs wil be for the factory installed OS.  Also, your unit has a software utility entitled Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator whereby you can make your own recovery discs.
Query:   how i can downgrade it from Vista to Windows XP ???
RESPONSE:  Buy a retail copy of XP omar, full version and not an upgrade, need to make a floppy of the SATA driver for reinstall recognition or reset BIOS to compatability.  The specs on your unit are quite powerful, sure you want to downgrade? That was an initial heavy expenditure.  Such is life.

  • Satellite L305D-S5934 stuck on "checking system files" screen

Hey guys, so let me start off that I'm really not tech savvy and I've had this laptop since around 2009 and over the years it's had some problems but the most recent being that whenever I try to start up the computer, it'll give me a quick options menu and then enter into the "checking system files" screen, which is fine and everything until it's at 56%. It does this every time I try to restart the laptop and it just completley stops there even if I leave it alone for an hour or two. Hope you guys can help with my dilemma and thanks in advance!

PS If you have some bad sectors;which I'm suspecting you might have, this might take several hours to complete. When I run mine it takes nearly 3 hours and I have no bad sectors.

  • Laptop over heating then shutting down

    Model; Satellite L355-S7812
I've hade this computer two years. It started over heating then shutting down soon after I purchased it. It use to take 4-5 hours before it overheated now its less than an hour. What can be the problem?

Probably the fans. They may need to be replaced. The Qosmio I purchased in 2005 had the same problem. I replaced the fans twice over the 5 years I used it. Fan issues are known problems with certain models, especially those that have high CPU usage. By the way, a Toshiba technician told me never to place the laptop directly on the lap or on a soft service like a bed. The fans can't ventilate properly, especially if they are located on the bottom of the computer. Since I have done that, the fans have worked fine.

  • Satellite L305d reformat

Hi. I have a Toshiba Satellite L305d S5895 that came with Windows Vista. As I recall, it did not come with a reformat disc. I looked to see if I could make one on my laptop, or push something at startup to restore it to factory settings, but I had no success.
I was hoping that someone could tell me how I could reformat it entirely and remove all data from it. I want to start over fresh and new. My family has downloaded too much on it, and given it viruses, so now its performance is lacking.
I am willing to do anything other than pay to reformat or restore it to factory settings. I refuse to pay and put money down on something that I already own. I do not wish to purchase the same OS that I am running on. My funds are not in the right place to do that at the moment.
Again, any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

It either came with a hard drive based recovery system or it came with recovery disks.  If it has a hdd based recovery system you would invoke it by holding down the 0 (zero) key while powering on the system.  See these support documents for details on how this works and how to determine if your system shipped with this option.
    http://cdgenp01.csd.toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/PMA500339010_web.pdf
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/bulletin.jsp?ref=EV&soid=2222431&ct=SB
If this option is not available then you need to figure out what you did with the recovery disks it shipped with.  If you've lost them or threw them away (you would be surprised how many people do this) then you can order a replacement set of recovery disks by following the info in this post.
Your other options would be to purchase a WIndows 7 upgrade disk or, if money is tight download a free Linux distribution and install it.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • How to get a Recovery media for Satellite L305D S5900

I am a Ghanaian who bought a Toshiba laptop about seven months ago. The model is Satellite L305D S5900. I am also in Ghana. I found out from the documents that came with the laptop and your forum that I can order for Recovery media for it with no charge on the software itself.
How do I get this Recovery media for my machine as I am in a different country? What are the things involved?
    Thank You.

Your T500 can burn CD's at the least and if you can access Windows, you should be able to burn a set of recovery discs.
Other than that, I suggest calling support to see what they can do to help. The number in the U.S. is 1-800-426-7378.

  • How can I turn my MacBook Air on after an over-heat-shutdown?

I was using my Mac today and it suddenly froze and the date on the top went funny. I tried pressing buttons on the keyboard and nothing seemed to work. So I pressed and held the power button down and it turned off. Then I tried turning it back on but, it won't. The white status light on the bottom side of the computer becomes bright and then starts blinking with an alarm sound. Im not sure of the reason for that sudden freeze. I think its cuz of over heating, cuz I left it turned on since last evening. (MacBook Air, Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX Lion)

As BobTheFisherman already said, it is impossible to say until you find out just what was damaged.  If enough coffee got inside it, it could well be the logic board and every other piece of circuitry inside is fried.  Or it could be less damaged and repairable.  But you really need someone to open it up, disassemble it and find out just what was shorted out and how extensive the damage is.
I would forewarn you that you may be looking at having to replace the whole machine, in a worst case scenario.

  • Battery Purging and Over heating Phone!

WHAT?!!  I have assumed that my LG Revolution spontaneously purging the entire battery charge at once then over heating and shutting down was a hardware issue!  Now I find that it is the result of yet ANOTHER OS SOFTWARE upgrade issue?!  OMG are you kidding me?!!  I have been PLAGUED with problems since I was forced to upgrade my android OS to 2.3.6 through Verizon!  I am ready to make ANY change I have to escape this plague!!  I PAY WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for android smart phones and premium service through a so called 'premium' provider to have to put up with economy freakin performance Verizon!!!
I am especially disappointed in Verizon since I took the phone all the way to their coorporate store 5 months ago and all they did was scratch their heads!  They tried to sell me a new battery which also immediately commenced to over heat; so of course the next course of action was to try and sell me a NEW PHONE!
I've been sitting here with a DEAD VERIZON phone all day AGAIN trying to rescucitate it!!  ****, that **!

Thank you Verizon; you're right.  Buying a new phone is the fix!  I bought a brand new LG Spectrum at the Verrizon store yesterday and my old LG Revolution immediately began to work perfectly again. That was the fix.  Of course....
You think this is messed up?  It just gets weirder.  Before going to bed last night I took my new LG Spectrum off a 4 hour charge because it was full.  It slept all night.  When I checked it in the morning it had one missed call and 6 emails; that's it.  The battery charge however was completely on EMPTY!  OMG!!??  What the....?  Yesterday I was rather puzzled by how exceptionally warm/hot it felt while on charge.  The charger plug also felt the same.  It's on charge right now using the supplied charger but I changed it to a different outlet.  It's still very warm/hot.  I'm befungled!!  I live in a 1/2 million $ condo packed with properly working electronics' so it's certainly not a source problem.
More weirdness:  yesterday I was downloading and re-installing programs and updates to reload my new phone.  A couple of hours later it went on an all out download splurge all on it's own, one after another it was a stream of unwanted downloads I couldn't stop.  I turned off wi-fi, but eventually had to shut down the phone right in the middle of processes..... not a good.   (UPDATE:  solved this issue.  I discovered that all the bloatware pre-installed on the phone further imposes itself by ALSO being set to 'auto update' itself. Oh! cool!  and check this out: it won't let you uninstall any of that sh*t!  Cool huh?   Thanks LG or is it Verizon; I want to be sure to give due credit to whomever is responsible for that *** idea!)
My new not-so smartphone phone, less than 24 hours old, is already fouled.
UPDATE:  5 hours later.  No phone call usage today.  Emails, texts, a few downloads, and some new phone setup configuring today.  Phone is dead after 5 hours of use.  Took old phone off 1 hour charge and of course it was as cool as a cucumber, plugged in new phone and it became hot within minutes.  I think that the solution is to just go back to using landlines....
Attached below is a photo showing the EKG of the entire life of my NEW phone.  1 day and 7 hours.  Hmph?  And I am already in the forums.  Anyone know what the record is?

  • Bluetooth troubleshooting for toshiba satellite L305D-S5892

i can not get my laptop to sync up with my new cell phone (nokia 7510).
i could get it to sync up with my past cell phones with no problem.
it is not the cell phone, because i can sync it with my husbands phone.
i have tried to install drivers from the toshiba web site(when i do that, it wants me to "plug in bluetooth device and press ok"--well i don't know what that means!! so i plug in the bluetooth usb i have from another software and it doesn't work.)
i tried my bluetooth software with bluetooth usb attachment(IOGEAR model#GBU221) that works with previous cell phones (including my husbands cell phone) and my laptop. i contacted the softwares customer support and they don't know what the problem is!! i still can not get them(my new phone and laptop) to recognize each other.

I have done absalutely nothing to my 4g apple ipod touch, and it over heats, won't hold a charge, and the front camera will not work. I bought this brand new in december, and i've barely used it. I've tried restarting it and everything, I honestly think this is out raging because i spend over $200 on this. To have for music and instagram. I use it about an hour a day, but i've only been using it for about 3 months although i've had it since December. Any suggestions that may help me?

    Try:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod
If still problem make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Over heating on charge and it is no longer showing anything on the screen

My iPhone 5 is over heating on charge and it is no longer showing anything on the screen. I was using it when the screen went white and it hasn't worked since. I have tried to both restart it and to restore it. as the screen doesn't not work it is hard to tell the condition of the phone. However it occasionally makes the lock noise when pushing the lock button and also occasionally vibrates when operating the side switch. I can not leave it plugged in on charge as it gets very hot and it is no longer recognised in iTunes unless i put it in recovery mode.
Has anyone else has this problem or can recommend a solution. I bought it second hard a while ago so it is not under any warranty.
    Thank you

Sounds like the battery has become unstable
Take it to an Apple store Genius bar for evaluation Suggest you do not attempt to charge any more
at worse Apple may offer an Out of Warranty exchange device identical to donor
In UK  price over the counter is £209
