Satellite L350-264: webcamera initialization failed

I have just bought a new L350-264 (PSLD4E).
The built in web cam worked fine for a few days but now when I turn the laptop on an error says "Web camera initialization failed.
Please check your camera device and restart application or computer".
No other information is provided.
I have rebooted laptop and tried to open camera from the Toshiba Utilities menu but the same error is returned.
Can anyone help?

What do you think about nee installation of webcam software?
Have read about similar error messages here and mostly the user could solve this reinstalling the webcam software.
The software can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page!!!

Did you reinstall Windows using Toshiba recovery disk or a normal Microsoft disk?
If you use Toshiba recovery disk for reinstalling, everything will be restored back to factory settings and should work properly because all drivers and tools will be installed automatically.
If it doesnt work it seems to be a hardware malfunction and you should contact an authorized service provider in your country. The guys can order new spare parts and repair this under warranty.

i feel your pain. i have the same problem with my L875-10G. downloaded the drivers as suggestted by these guys as well but still have no luck. I don't even have people replying to my post
I have even gone for a full recovery thinking i have uninstalled it. But installing the web driver has no affect.
the camera is not even in the device manager.
if you managed to get it working i would really like to know how u did it

Satellite L500D - Webcamera initialization failed

Ok so I own this brand new Satellite L500D and as soon as I login in the web cam app pops up and says web camera initialization failed. Please check your camera device and restart application or computer.
I press ok and the app closes down so I checked the device manager (took me a while my old laptop was xp this one is Windows 7) and there was no camera devices but an unkown device.
No CDs came with my laptop for Windows or programs or drivers or anything and there no toshiba folder in the c directory. I even tried a like.. system restore but that didnt help. I really need some one to give me a hand here...

I agree with the user above. You should try to reinstall the webcam driver firstly. This has also solved my problem with the webcam. :)

Regarding your question about CDs: My Toshiba notebook does also came without disks because you have to create this disk yourself. Start the Toshiba recovery disk creator that creates a bootable medium for restoring factory settings. This disk contains an image of the Windows installation from Toshiba and is really easy to use! :)

Satellite L650 - Web Camera Initializations Failed

Hello,
I have a Satellite L650. I have had it for just under 6 months and the other day, I turned on the computer to find the web cam pop up message saying "Web Camera Initializations Failed etc..." I have also noticed that the in built microphone too isn't working anymore.
I have uninstalled, and re installed the driver and it is still not working.
I was wondering if there is anyone who can help or has had the same problem?

Can you use the internal webcam with other applications like Skype?
Have you installed the correct webcam driver for Satellite L650?
What operating system you are using?
If you have already reinstalled the webcam driver I would recommend using CCleaner tool. This is a very nice freeware tool that can check your registry for old registry keys and delete them. So its nice cleaning software to enhance the performance a little bit and fix problems. Just use Google to find this program.

Satellite C650-1CR - webcam initialisation failed

Hi all,
I cannot get the integrated webcam to start.
I have downloaded and installed the latest bios and webcam drivers from the toshiba website which promted the cam to start to initialise.
Now i have an error which says "webcam initialisation failed, please check your device...."
The problem is that there is no listing for the webcam on the device manager screen.
I am at a loss as to how i can get the webcam to work, any suggestions?

Usually the webcam should be listed in device manager under Imagine Devices
In my case its USB Video Device this is the usb Chicony webcam.
Do you have any unknown devices marked with yellow exclamation mark?
If yes, then this is probably the cam
As last option, you could try to recover the notebook using Toshiba Recovery disk which you have created... hopefully...

Satellite L350-277 - Webcam failing to initialize

I am still having a problem with my webcam on the above laptop. It did work when I first bought the laptop, but for some reason it is now failing to initialize.
I have posted before and was advised to download drivers.
I have done this but it still wont work.
Anyone got anymore suggestions or do I have to take laptop back to shop?

Khalid....... when I first had the laptop in January the webcam worked. Now when I login I have a popup that says webcam failed to initialize please restart the programme? I can't find the programme. My husband who is really good with computers has looked and even he cant find how to fix this. I did restore my laptop back to factory settings as someone else suggested to me and it still doesn't work. I have gone to Toshiba website and downloaded drivers etc, still getting same message, therefore I am not getting anything at all!
Akuma....when I first had laptop the webcam worked with Windows Live Messenger. I don't have Yahoo Messenger and I did use Skype for a while but since restoring laptop back to factory settings have not downloaded it.
I bought the laptop with Windows 7 installed. All the programmes you asked if I have that might clash are in my list of programmes as what Windows 7 recommend.

Satellite Pro A300 - Webcam driver fails to start under Win 7

Recently purchased a Sat Pro A300 and immediately upgraded from Vista Bus to Win7 Pro.
Didn't try to use webcam before upgrade.
Post-upgrade, after downloading and installing Chicony webcam software from Toshiba, continually get message "Webcam driver open fail. Please restart camera or computer".
Camera appears in Device Manager and says driver is a Microsoft driver v 6.1.7600.16385 dated 21/6/06 (very pre-Win7!).
Have tried unistalling/reinstalling camera assistant software with and without first uninstalling camera in Device Manager, but same error message comes back every time. I'd much appreciate some suggestions re a fix.

In your case I would try to install the latest webcam driver from Toshiba. Install this driver and try it again. Make also sure that latest BIOS version is installed for your notebook.
Furthermore it would be interesting to know if the same problem occurs on Vista. You should try it with factory settings. So you can identify if its a hardware or software problem.

Satellite L350-264 slow at websites

Hi everyone,
I recieved this laptop a couple of days ago and i have download a antivirus straight away but i am having problems with the latop and i was wondering if someone can help me.
The laptop is slow at websites, it takes awhile to get the website up and sometimes i have refresh after a while and at downloading, a programe that is only 20mb takes over an 1 hour.
When im logging into my bank account online, it take up to 20 mins after i put all my details in, when im trying to watch something on youtube it buffering every 3 seconds and it buffers for up to 20 mins without me clicking on it or clicking off the website and im starting to get frustated.
Can someone please help me cos im so close to smashing this laptop to bits :o(.

Satellite L350 - Videos with webcam are up to 5GB!

Hi. I wonder if you can help me.
I have a Satellite L350-17 laptop. In short - was trying to upload a 5 min video recorded via camera assistant software (pre installed from new) on Toshiba to Youtube. Nothing happened.... checked video size and it was 5GB! Then checked all videos and all around the same size. Obviously something not right?
Even a 15 second video is upto 60MB. An 1 second video was 23MB. Checked all settings as best I could and all seems normal. Videos are saved as avi files.
Had Toshiba since nov 08 and noticed then that quality of pics and vids are very poor even using highest settings. Compared pics and videos on a friends notebook from another manufacture and are perfect. She doesn't use camera assistant software though. Only built in camera software.

Please wait a moment You wrote about a poor video and photo quality but dont forget that this is a webcam and not a digicam for example. On webcams you cant the same quality as on digicams!!
I have two Toshiba notebooks Satellite A300 and Qosmio F50. Im satisfied with the quality of the webcam but if I want to take pictures or videos I use my digicam. The webcam is as the name says only for live-communication in my opinion.
Anyway, if you want to public some videos you should convert the videos in MPEG file as Luke suggest. So you can save a lot of disk space.
Google is your friend to find such converters. ;)

Web Camera initialization failed. Satellite L655

i bought my laptop a month ago and got this message "web camera initialization failed. please check your camera device and restart application or computer"
done reinstalling drivers
done disabling and enabling webcam on BIOS
my device manager doesnt detect any webcam, but it has a unknown device in the usb but theres nothing connected on my laptop when i checked on it it says "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)"

Toshiba installed newer version of camera SW, one of possible reasons why it doesn't work properly, do full system recovery if after reinstalling device will still not work.

Try to update the webcam driver. You can find it on the Toshiba website:

Furthermore try to update the BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website too.
Have you installed the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk or Microsoft disk?

Satellite L300 - T2FTP Windows sockets initialization failed

After Login I get the following message:
T2FTP Windows sockets initialization failed
At the same time the system gives a message that it has found a new unknown hardware device and the driver should be installed.
Before I did NOT add any new hardware device.
Clicking the Start Button results only in a message: Windows Explorer does not react.
It is impossible to call any other routine.
Unfortunately I don't find my Recovery-CDROM.
Is there any chance to save my system?

I think its operating system issue something, somewhere was going wrong
I agree with Jeka. The Vista reinstallation would be the easiest and fastest way to get rid of this problem.
If didnt get the recovery disk because the OS was preinstalled and there was an tool which allows you to create an own recovery disk.
You should be able to recover the unit using HDD recovery
Restart the notebook, press F8 and choose repair my computer.
Then choose Toshiba HDD recovery.
This would recover the OS again.

Furthermore the microphone is located on near the microphone because its a part of the webcam.
Regarding the picture quality of webcam you could also try reinstalling the webcam driver from Toshiba website.

Satellite L350-12C - hard drive failure, need recovery

Please help. I have Toshiba Satellite L350-12c and its a German model. My hard drive failed.
The local Toshiba repair centre said they can replace the hard drive but without the disc they cant restore it to working order.
The worst part is its still under warranty but Toshiba is refusing to help me. The only place I can order discs is from Europe who wont accept an American credit card and mailing address which kills me because I have another laptop from Germany and they sent me discs with no issue.
The local shop even contacted the local rep and she was no help. Please help frustrated Toshiba customer.

Sorry i have a german l350-12c that was purchased in the UK. it has a 2 year international warrnty and i live in the united states. toshiba of usa insist they will do nothing to help. the local toshiba dealer is been very helpful they spoke to a toshiba of america rep and still was told their was nothing they can do. this model was not built for the us market. the local shop is willing to fix it if i get the original restore disc. without that their not willing because they say they dont have access to the drivers and the special fixes that would be ont the disc.which is the stuff that makes all the little functions work, Plus without the disc theirs no way to set up the recovery partation,which is damaged due to the harddrive failure. theirs ways it could be peaced together but they wont do the warrnty work without being able to fix it. if they just swapped the harddrive i guess i could manage but that realy blows seeing i have warrnty which is suppose to be honored even in the us. when i call toshiba of uk they say they cant send the disc to the us. but yet through my work we get things from simens in germay on a regular basis.so im completely at a lose thanks for any help.
