Satellite L350 and boot issues

I switch the laptop on it loads Toshiba screen then after about 5 secs I get a continuous beep.
The first time this happened I left it for about 3 mins then help the power button in and turned it off, now when I boot it up it asks whether to load normal or repair mode which ever I choose the same thing happens.
Help please!

Hi
Try to recovery the notebook again using the Toshiba HDD recovery option;
Boot up the notebook, choose Repair my Computer, then a new window should appear and there you could choose Toshiba recovery.
This should start the recovery procedure.
Note; before you would do this disconnect all external devices connected to the notebook (printer, scanner external HDD, etc.)
If this would be not possible then I would assume that this could be related to an hardware issuebut its really hard to say what could be wrong.

  • Satellite L350 and OpenGL 1.4

I have seen similar posts in the past, but none of them could help me with my issue.
Background, I have a Satellite L350 with Windows Vista and try to run a game that needs OpenGL 1.4. I already installed the current display drivers from this site but still could not get it to run. The next step was downloading the Intel display drivers, which are more recent, but I am having trouble installing those as apparently the manufacturer has not verified those.
Is there something I am missing? Looking at the hardware requirements of that game
(OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 / Processor: Dual Core 1.6 GHz or better / Memory: 1GB (XP), 2GB (Vista), 2GB (Windows 7) / Hard Disk Space: 140 MB Free Space / Video Card: OpenGL 1.4 or higher)
The L350 should be able to handle that, right? Is there a way to test which version of OpenGL can run?

Aha.....almost...I am almost there. I have the drivers at hand and unzipped, yet I can not get device manager to use the newer drivers. Because anytime I point Vista to the new drivers it tells me that the most current drivers are already installed, even though those are 7.xxxx instead of the newer 15.xxxx. Do I have to uninstall the old drivers first (uninstalling those sounds kind of scary though)? I seem to miss the option to actually select this driver as windows just searches through the folder and doesn't do anything.
Maybe I have missed how to get to the advanced installation procedure. How do I actually get there?
    (Thanks for the help btw)

  • Satellite S1800-814: Boot issue, screen is black

I know there're several postings here reporting how the screen is black at startup. I think my problem is similar, but I need to give some more specifics.
About a year ago, a friend of mine gave me his old laptop, a Satellite 1800-814. I basically use it as a typewriter, and to check my email. It never could run on battery only, longer than for a couple of seconds, but I've always used it with the power cable connected, no problems. At times, it wouldn't start up, and I had to unplug the power cable for a while to get it going.
I was visiting someone, and wanted to connect to the Internet. They had this USB wireless modem, which I plugged in to my Toshiba. During the installation, the PC froze, and I had to reboot it by pushing down the power button for a while. It did reboot, but stalled. I rebooted again, sometimes got it working, sometimes not, and eventually, it went into its current state: With the power cord connected, it'll start, I'll hear the processor fan (or whatever that is) working, and the battery and power lights will be green at the bottom of the keyboard.
The screen, however, is black, it doesn't make any sounds, and the caps and insert key indicator lights are not reacting to anything -- they're permanently off.
What's up here? I tried removing the battery, give it some time and then reinserting it, but to no avail. I also tried booting it up with the USB modem plugged in, no luck there either. Do I need to make an appointment with the PC Doc, or is this something I can fix?
I have really important documents on there. Grateful for any help!

Your description is pretty long but I am still confused. You mixed several issues in problem description and there is no clear statement what happen when you press power button.
    Is power LED on?
    Is there any HDD activity?
Can you see something on the screen?
What happen if you use AC power supply only (without battery inside)?
Sorry but it is not easy to say what the problem can be. The best thing you can do is to contact someone with enough PC experience. The person who has notebook on the desk and try to start this notebook can be more concrete about possible problems.
BTW: please check this interesting document http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSD57013H000JR01.htm

  • MSI P55-GD80 - POST and boot issues

So I built my previous custom rig about 7 months ago and have had no problems up until about 2 weeks ago. My computer began to restart itself and hardlock with no warning. The only indication of what was happening was an IDE Controller error - Eventid: 11 / Source: atapi (most likely HD Cables or Motherboard), so I went out and got a new MSi P55-GD80 mobo today and put it in my computer with a new 850w antec psu. When I boot the computer, it hangs at a black screen for a long period of time (3-8m) and eventually it manages to POST. It doesn't allow me to enter the BIOS setup menu because the motherboard never initializes the setup of USB and other devices (debug code 38). By the time the computer boots to Windows (if at all), the debug code reads 33 and will slowly revert back to debug code 30 over time. I am not able to do anything while in windows due to a lack of mouse and keyboard. It doesn't seem like the motherboard is initializing all of the correct processes before moving on to the next, and I've never seen a motherboard just sit without POSTing for minutes at a time until initiating the motherboard splash logo. Do I need to RMA this motherboard or do you guys have any other ideas?
P.S: Yes, I am booting with one stick of ram in the first black slot closest to the CPU (second slot).

My computer was previously using the ASUS P7P55D EVO motherboard. I had no issues until I started receiving the IDE controller errors that would freeze up my computer endlessly.
So basically I swapped to the new MSI P55-GD80 motherboard on a freshly formatted SSD and am now encountering these strange POST issues.
Here's a walkthrough of what is currently happening to the machine when powered on with 1 stick of RAM in DIMM slot #1, no drives connected, video card/cpu only:
    1. Power button pushed.
    • Computer powers on.
    • Debug LED reads FF for 1 second
    • Debug LED reads d4 for 1/2 second
    • Debug LED reads d5 for 1/2 second
    • Debug LED reads 04 for 1/8 second
    • Debug LED reads 05 for 1/8 second
    • Debug LED reads 06 for ~45 seconds
    • Debug LED reads 0c for 3-5 minutes
    2. The computer sometimes POSTs at this point, with the Debug LED reading anywhere from 30-38 (it changes randomly, sometimes backwards after a period of time), or continues to sit at a black screen until restart.
    • It is still not possible to use any USB or PS2 devices at this point, so loading into the BIOS setup is not an option

  • X220 resume from sleep and boot issues

This is driving me crazy! I have an X220 with Windows 8 and UEFI boot installed.
It all started when I first installed Windows 8 a few months ago which required me to update my BIOS to the latest version. The installation process often got stuck when booting from the Installation CD (the round circle stopped spinning, the display was at full brightness). Eventually I managed to boot into the Installer (when the boot logo doesn't get stuck, the display is then dimmed to minimum).
I was quite happy to have a superfast lightweight OS which booted in an instant.. When suddenly it started to get stuck when booting (same issue with the boot logo not spinning anymore). This happens quite randomly, but I often manage to boot (maybe 2-3 times a week, I don't boot often though..). Now, the booting hangs are less of an issue for me but more often that that it fails to resume from sleep. The LEDs flash and then it instantly drops to sleep mode again (well at least the sleep/moon LED is active). This happens quite often as I sleep/resume up to 5-10 times a day (changing lecture rooms, meeting rooms, save battery when the lectures are boring, ...)
Now after researching and spending hours in debugging this issue, it seems that I'm not the only one having this (or a similar) issue, but often without any definitive solution being specified.
This is what I have already tried:
    * Upgrade BIOS and SSD firmware to latest
    * Install/update latest drivers
    * Mess around with BIOS options
    ** UEFI/Legacy First options
    ** Intel Virtualization/vt-d
    ** Others..
I know based on other threads that I'm not the only one experiencing exactly these issues. Has anyone managed to fix this?
    Thank's in advance
    Fabio Scala

I had a similar issue, as soon as a described even a little bit of it to warrenty support they sent someone to swap the board
It seems thats the only fix, its been fine since

  • Windows 8.1 Install loop and boot issue

    Hi
I have two harddrives in my desktop. I used to use one for my Windows 7 boot and one for data.
Now I partitioned my C: drive for windows 7 as well as data, and I formatted my second HDD to install windows
    8 on.
I burned my ISO to USB using rufus, no problems there. Once in the setup of windows 8, I used the command prompt
to clean my disk and convert it to GPT. (I first tried to install windows 8 on a partition of the same disk win7 runs on, but I'd have to clean the disk to convert it, which would mean I'd lose my win7 boot and files).
The setup continues and all seems to go well. I get to the point where it says "Finalizing setup"
and then it says it will reboot in 10 seconds. Now here's where the problem shows up. When it reboots, it restarts the setup all over again, instead of showing the usual "personalizing" phase.
I tried unplugging my USB during the reboot so it wouldn't boot to that, to no effect. I also checked in my
UEFI setup what my primary boot device was: "Windows Boot Manager". If I changed it to either of the other two options (SATA's), it booted my Windows 7. It seems as though it doesn't properly display the disk to which I installed windows 8, as it
either restarts the setup or boots the other OS.
If I check my disks when in Win 7, it shows the disk to which I installed win 8. It then has all the folders
in it you'd expect when you installed an OS on it, such as Windows, Program Files, ...
The only thing I notice that might be strange during the installation process is that, when you check the drivers
of the disk I'm installing to, it doesn't display any. In all the tutorials I've read through though, it doesn't say anywhere that you have to provide those yourself.
Any ideas as to what might be the problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Pleas make sure to boot your PC into UEFI mode, If you install Windows using the wrong mode, you won’t be able to use the features of that firmware mode without reformatting the drive

Does drive: C on this disk? If you want to convert the disk to GPT, make sure that the disk does not contain any partitions or volumes before you setup Windows 8, otherwise you will lose data.
Lastly, please make sure the bootable usb drive you manually created is not corrupted.

  • Strange noises and booting issues

    Hi,
My MacBook froze up this afternoon and started making strange clicking noises that sounded like someone typing on a computer. Because all my applications were completely frozen, I went to reboot, but now it is stuck on the loading screen. Is this because I have a CD in the CD drive and it is trying to boot from that? If so how do I get it out?

Sounds like your hard drive may have failed. Try booting from the Mac OS X installation DVD that came with your system (hold down keyboard "c" key during startup), then run Disk Utility from the Utilities menu before actually beginning the OS X install process.
If you have a non-startup DVD stuck in the optical drive, just hold down the keyboard eject button during startup to eject it.

  • G770 trackpad problem and boot issues

Hi there, my G770 is currently having a few problems, I was wondering if anyone could help:
    1. The trackpad intermittently breaks and stops working, but when i press control alt delete, it starts working again... Any ideas? EDIT- this is also happening when I plug in a mouse.
    2. As well as this, when it went to sleep the today, it came back on with incredibly loud beeping (as though in a code?) while a single white cursor flashed on screen. I had to restart and:
    3. When I restarted, it kept attempting to restart everytime it got to the bit on dos when it says "select windows" which... it shouldnt say, as i only have one boot on it? Thankfully i was able to quickly press return so it selets the option to start up. After that, windows starts normally. But... obviously I still have the 1st problem.
I presume these are interconnected, any ideas? Thanks!!!

Hi guevara550 and welcome to the community,
Does the beeping sound like a stuck key sounds?
Go into your mouse properties in Control Panel and check your settings for the trackpad.  You might have it set to disable itself when you plug a usb mouse in.

  • Tiger/OS9.2 installation and Booting issues  among multiple HD's

G4 PCI, (thats bootable in 9, must be booted in 9 to use an essential business app). It has 2 HD's: an 80 G ata for OS9 & apps, & OSX (from Jag - Tiger, w/minimal apps&files. I later added a SATA 320G driven by a SIIG, pci card. The 320G became the main Tiger,X Apps & files HD, the smaller one for OS9 only, & Tiger emergency boot. The 80G died, but I was able to clone everything on it to a 10G ATA, that was then installed in the G4 so I could run the business app.
I also cloned the dying ATA HD to an empty 114G partition on the Large SATA HD. The idea was to transfer the os9 & Business app to a large partition bec it needed normal space. I couldn't get the G4 to boot in 9 from that partition, though it was a clone of the ATA HD??
**1. The OSX "Startup Disk CP" in the Large SATA HD, sees both Tigers and Both 9's in both HD's. I can restart directly into the Small ATA HD's X or 9. It will not boot into its own 9, though the CP sees it, and allows me to choose it. Itwill auto restarts back in its X, after a blank grey screen while it trys to make sense of whatever it sees in the 9 partition. This 9 is a clone of the ATA HD's perfectly working 9.
**2.When happilyrunnibg in the Small ATA's 9, its "Startup Disk CP" only sees its own X & 9, it doesn't see the SATA HD at all....To get back to the Large HD X, I must first reboot into the Small HD's X, then its Startup Disk CP sees the Large SATA's X & 9. I can then reboot into the Large X, but again not into the Large 9 (same deal as above).
**3.I tried to clone the ATA Disk (working 9&X) to a new external USB HD's 100G partition. It took forever. The SATA CP saw both in the Ext HD,but wouldn't boot in either in either. The ATA saw both but wouldn't boot.Scarey, very nasty freeze/crash, that refused to find any ogood OS.I
**Apple-C, with the 9 CD didn't work... grey dead screen, so I couldn't install a new 9 on the SATA, if it could be found?. I had to use the X disk CP to find a working OS. I Don't want to tell you how many hours of crash restarts with & without the Tiger Disk and repairs I went thru.
** How can I install 9 & its apps, to the large SATA partition?**Why didn't the cloned 9 work on the SATA?** Why does the ATA Startup Disk CP, not see the SATA?**Why do both HD's Startup CP see the EXT usb's 9 & X, allow you to choose them, when they are not bootable? Why are they not bootable? Help!Help!Help! Thanks so much. Totally exhausted! I know the easy answer is getting a new 80G ata and cloning the working 10G to that one, but why won't the SATA work???

Maybe the drive is using a GUID partition table. Tiger can read and write GUID drives, but PPC Macs can't boot from them. Select the drive (all the way at the left, not the volume indented below it) in Disk Utility, and look at the bottom-right of the window for "Partition Map Scheme". You need "Apple Partition Map" for it to be bootable by a PPC Mac. This is selectable via the "Options" button in Disk Utility's "Partition" tab.
Also, for OS 9 to boot, you have to chose the option to install OS 9 drivers when you initialize the drive.

  • BIOS Flash Recovery and Boot Issues

Im sure that you've heard this a thousand times but you gonna have to hear it one more time.  On my K8T Neo I Flashed BIOS 1.20 through LiveUpdate.  When I went into the startup I entered the setup and it said that it was going to perform a flash recovery.  I put what I thought was my flash recovery disc and went and took a shower and ate.  When I got back 30 minutes later nothing had happened.  So I restarted my computer and I got a boot error.  I can still get to the setup screen but thats it.  What do I need to do?

  • Satellite L350 - Can't install Vista and how can I backup my data?

    Hi to all
I have a Satellite L350 and recently I've installed Vista Home Premium in a different language (the OEM Vista was in English) hoping I could activate it with the OEM key, but I didn't succeed.
When I wanted to re-install the OEM Vista from WinRE I realized I can't access it and then I had a "brilliant" idea that if format the C partition with the Acronis Disc Director it would boot from WinRE. It didn't.
Fortunately Ive burned the recovery discs before. The only problem is that the recovery disc formats the entire HDD and I have data on the second partition I've would like to retrieve.
I tried to install again the retail Vista to backup the data from the second partition (yes, I'm an idiot, I didn't do it before) but it stops after the first reboot. I get a black screen with a low dash blinking.
I really need that data, please help!

    Hi!
I can tell you why you cant install a retail version of Vista by using the product key. This is pretty easy because the key on the bottom side on the notebook belongs to the preinstalled OEM version and cant be used by a retail version.
However, I think the best way to backup your data would be that you put the HDD in an external HDD case and then you can backup your data on another PC or notebook.
Such external HDD cases are not expensive but very useful.
    Bye

  • How do I remove the spacebar button on Satellite L350?

I have a shiny brand new Satellite L350, and a few drops of orange juice got splashed on lower part of the keyboard.
The keys are all fine, except the spacebar.
Although it works, it doesn't have that "click" when it is pressed.
Now I'm not sure if it'll be worth trying to lift the spacebar out and clean it.
If it is, I would appreciate some instructions on how to lift it out.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
Usually all the keyboard buttons are only stuck on the keyboard and it should be possible to remove it easily.
I could remove my buttons using a thin object.
I put the thin object under the button and levered carefully the space bar.
If you do this please be careful because if you would use too much force, you could break some brackets.
    Good luck

  • Satellite L350 can't stand by/hybernate

    Hi
I have the Toshiba Satellite L350 and I have installed WXP instead of Vista and the only thing that I change to BIOS is to change ACHI to multi.. (I did that because I couldnt install WXP with another way...then after 1 month my laptop when I close the lid ,is starting the standby mode for only 5-10 secs and then opens again without touching anything...and hibernate has the same behaviour.
Do you have any idea how can I solve this matter?

    Hi buddy,
To be honest I dont understand your question.
Did you shut down the notebook when it goes in stand by mode?
Or does your notebook wake up from standby, hibernation, etc.?
In this case you have to disable Wake up on LAN, Keyboard in BIOS.
And what happens with preinstalled Windows?

  • Windows 8 Laptop Boot Issue (and other related problems)

My Toshiba Satellite S855D-S5148 laptop was bought about a month ago, but it's been giving me issues for the last week.
The most significant one was a boot issue, where out of nowhere, the PC would not start, and after a hard restart, I received an error message saying Windows was not able to start. So I called tech support and they guided me through a PC refresh. That seemed to have solved the issue until twenty minutes later, when my system froze and I could not move the cursor let alone use any applications. So I did a hard restart again, and tried to do another PC refresh until the laptop 'clicked' and shut off. I restarted again, and my system seemed to be working normally until two days later (I did not shut it off or restarted it during this period, only kept it in hibernate when not in use).
Upon trying to use my laptop, it said Windows was reconfiguring. Afterwards, I received an error message saying that Windows had to restart due to 'this problem,' though the problem was not specified. The error message included a list of file addresses that presumably contained a description of the problem, but I can't access the files because they don't show up when I search their addresses. They are .dmp and .xml files, respectively.
Is anyone familiar with this problem? I wish I could return the laptop but it's a couple of weeks shy of the return period (Staples has a measely 14-day return period, but I didn't think I'd have to use it). I don't want to go through the hassle of shipping it off to Toshiba for repairs. Would reformatting the laptop solve the problem? I wish I could attach the .dmp and .xml files to this post but I can't locate them. I'd try using the recovery disks, but they were recently destroyed in a flood.
Any comments, advice, and/or suggestions are very much welcome!

Happy to learn the hardware is fixed.
I was told they could not do so without the product key.   ...   Any ideas as to how I can get my product key?
Everybody should know by now that there is no product key for preinstalled Windows. The OEM has it locked into the motherboard.
As I've said over and over, recovery media will restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents. Windows will be activated.
Windows is not installed during this process. Everything on the hard drive is restored. It's an important distinction.

  • Satellite A665 beeping and sound issue

I have a Satellite A665 and when I start the computer, there is a long high pitched beep initially and then as it goes for a short time through the start up process, prior to Windows, it beeps again.  The beeping is coming from the bios, I believe since I have uninstalled the sound components in Device manager to test this.  Once Windows 7 is completely booted up and the sound components are reloaded, the speaker icon vibrates and has a continuous loud hum.  It is a high pitched hum that never goes away and the icon vibrates like crazy.  I have reseated the RAM and am at an impasse as to what to do.  It does sound like a BIOS issue but not sure what the next step may be.  It is 2 years old and out of warranty.
    Thanks!

I have not tried updating the bios since the sound was so severe I doubted that would help but I may try that.
I uninstalled all sound devices in Device Manager and then rebooted and the sound was unchanged.  That is what leads me to believe the issue is not with the sound devices.  I had the speakers unplugged and the devices uninstalled and the sound remained unchanged.  The only part the sound system plays in all this is that the sound icon (little speaker in the lower right hand corner) vibrates like crazy once Windows boots up and the devices are reloaded.  If you turn up the sound on the speakers, the hum or beep is constant and gets very loud.
I have been repairing computers for over 40 years and I have never seen anything like this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
