Satellite L40-A - display problems

Lcd problem i think pls help.. got pictures tnx

do you have any idea how to fix this?
If its display issue… the display panel must be replaced
If its graphic card issue, the graphic chip (probable the whole motherboard) must be replaced…
Connecting external monitor can help to find out whether it's display or GPU issue

  • Satellite L755-S5255 display problems

    Hello everyone.
I have a problem with my laptop - Satellite L755-S5255, which is less than one year old.
The display sometimes randomly shuts off and there is no other way to revive the computer except for turning it off and then on again. I should mention that the whole computer becomes dead. When I watch a movie and the display shuts off, the movie stops playing and all I can hear "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" (or something similar). After I restart it, sometimes I get pink dots all over the screen, which won't disappear until the next restart. After the problem appears and I turn the laptop off, I often have to restart it several times to resume working on it - the display shuts off again and again before the "Log In" screen. After 3 or 4 restarts everything is OK again. It boots fine into safe mode.
I have tried reinstalling videocard drivers (clean install from safe mode), and an upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate also didn't help (not that I was trying to fix the problem with that, I just got a chance to install it). I thought that this is just a hardcore version of the BSOD, but no, the Event Viewer doesn't show anything (except for "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.)
I don't know if the problem is in hardware or software. Would please help me to solve it? Thank you.

Hi and thank you for your answer.
When I don't use it all, it works without problems.
It doesn't happen every time I actively use it. Sometimes I will open a browser and it will shut off. Sometimes I wil try to lauch a movie and it will shut off. Most often this happens when I use a flash-based mp3 player (but it doesn't appear to be a problem with the plugin itself, because as I said it doesn't have to be launched for the computer to shut off).
When I tried safe mode, it worked without problems. But then again, I didn't work in the safe mode for a long time and the screen shuts off so randomly.
    Thanks.

  • Satellite L655D S5109 display problems

So this is what happened before:
    1. I don't know if this is related but like two months ago there was a day where the batery would't charge. if i plugged it to a power source the % of the batery would remain the same, if i disconnect it it would go down and if i plug it back it would maintain itself again but not charge. anyways after all the charge was gone and i recharged it it worked fine except that the batery icon in the task bar was now gray saying "consider replacing the batery" other than that everything worked fine with a normal batery life so i left it there.
    2. a month ago my screen woudl randomly go into a state of very low quality and frames per second. it would feel laggy as it seem like 1fps or something but it woudl fix itself randomly. sometimes by itself or sometimes by restarting the computer. after a while it worked fine and it was very rare ocurrance.
    3. two days ago my screen started turning pure white into cyan. i fixed this by lowering the brigthness by a tiny bit on the video card settings so there were no pure whites.
Anyways yesterday when i turned my computer on. the screen was comlpetely blank and didn't show anything. it was all black but it was still bright. i could hear all system sounds but nothign came up, not the toshiba logo or bios or windows or anything. here are some of the things i did:
    1. cleanned the dust.
2.plugged an external monitor. the computer reconized there was anotehr screen and i could switch modes using Fn+F5 but the monitor wasn't detecting anything.
    3.drained the batery and restart.
    4. press the pwoer button for 60seconds with the batery out.
non of those worked so it must be something with the video card. Also, I can still change the brigthness of the screen with the fn keys which i found strange i can see some changes in brightness like when the computer enters the log in screen (or that's what i think).
I know the gpu is integrated to the motherboard and can't be replaced but i still have some hope. I wanted to try updating drivers or firmware but i can't do that without seeing anything.
    any thoughts on this?

my laptop is 3 years old at least so it doesn't have warranty anymore. i don't know if removed the heat sink i think i didn't but i removed the whoel board and cleaned the fan with some preassured air. i don't think that's the problem though.
today i tried again using some other external screens. it's kind of weird. the screen says no signal and when i do fn+F5 some times the monitor will repower just to say there is no signal. using another monitor it said that the monitor is going to sleep. if i try to power on with a monitor to anything it will activate the monitor several times but always showing that message.
with all of this would it be the connection to the screens? i mean my main screen still lights up and i can adjust the back light using the keyboard still so some conection is still present. I see very unlikely though that both the connection to the external monitor and the built in monitor would fail. and if it's not that it would have to be the built in graphics in the motherboard. however do you know if the toshiba logo and the bios use the graphics card at all? it's weird taht it doesn't even show that.
I tried getting to the system recovery screen which i think i did by hodling zero and the power key the computer did some loud beeps so that's a good indication. still no display. i guess i need a guide to how to system restore blindly using the arrow keys.
on the hard drive thing i was planning to recover my data first using an adapter like this one: http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY%C2%AE-Drive-Adapter-Silicon-Protective/dp/B003Z2NIH2
do you know what type of adapter should i be looking at or if that one is good?
by now i just want to recover my data and maybe buy a new computer or something but i would really like to know at least what's wrong with my current one. I need my hopes that i can fix it to be crushed so i can think about how to replace it i guess.
    Thanks a lot guys.

  • Satellite L870-16C -display problems with some games

    Hi,
I've bought this laptop recently and it turned out that i have tearing problems with some games.
But really not with all games, just some of them (ex: the witcher, borderlands, trine...).
So i was wondering what the problem could be?
So far, i've heard it could be a v-sync problem, but everything i've done regarding this didn't change a thing.
Is it just a software issue or could it be a hardware problem with the graphic card?
I'm considering sending back my laptop to Toshiba, so i wanted to know if this was the only solution (and if it was a solution indeed).
For information, it's a L870-16C with a ati radeon HD 7670m graphic card (driver version: 12.10-130101a-151427E-ATI), operating on windows 8 64 bit.
    Does anyone have some clues?
    thanks

What game problems do you have exactly?
    Could you be more precise?
You said that you have some problems but NOT with all games.
Therefore I dont think that you have an hardware problem
In most cases (any) games issues are related to graphic card drivers in my long gaming experience, all issues which I had in the past were related to compatibility problems between driver and game.

  • Problem with keyboard and audio on Satellite L40

    Hi everybody,
I just installed XP SP2 on my Satellite L40 (BTW thanx to all you that have helped me overcome the problems during this operation with your threads), but I have some problem with my keyboard. I have an azerty keyboard and after I installed xp, it worked as a qwerty, I repared it, now all my letters are working fine, but i have some problems with some symbols, such as @, !, _,if you understand me.
    Could somebody help me???
I also have problems with my audio, in fact I have no audio at all, in control panel it says that no audio device is found.
I saw some threads that said that I should first install kb888111, and another likely thing, but i can't find the other one. I've downloaded the sound driver from the toshiba website; thanx for helping me in that field also.

  • Satellite L40-17R - FN Sound Volume Hotkey problem - Windows XP

    Hi,
I've recently bought Satellite L40-17R (PSL4CE) without OS preinstalled. I've installed Windows XP Home Edition SP 2.
Then I have installed all drivers I have found for this model on Toshiba driver site. I've even upgraded BIOS.
After that all Fn hotkeys works fine *except those responsible for volume control (Fn + Up/Down Arrow, Esc)*.
I have searched the forum for solution of this problem and found this topic
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=113113
but I am unable to install +ATK Hotkey Utility+ and +ATK Hotkey Driver+ since I cannot find *Driver Package* at Toshiba driver site:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=EU
    as if it was removed.
    I also studied instructions from
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/install-20071214121932.zip
Driver Package is also mentioned there on page 7, 8, 9 but it does not appear in a +Driver type+ listbox as described.
Also when I don't specify "Driver type" field in the search form there is no any Driver Package in search result.
Can anybody tell me where to find Driver Package, ATK Hotkey Utility or ATK Hotkey Driver for Satellite L40+ Win XP?
Am I missing something? Is my Toshiba drivers link not up to date? Is there any other solution to make sound hotkeys work?
    Mao

I've tried Ubuntu Linux on L40-17R and it can control the brightness automatically. For example, when u plug out the AC power (i.e. switch to battery) the brightness goes down to certain level automatically. And It can maintain the brightness level after rebooting.
I cannot find the same feature in Windows XP.
I think this is due to the missing of power saver utility. It can control the brightness automatically. and also for all other options.

  • Win 7 install disk driver problem on Satellite L40-18E

Hi' to get to the point im trying to install windows 7 on a Satellite L40-18E and when i boot from cd it says i didnt safely remove storage device.
When i start up Vista as normal and try install from my computer it says i do not have the hard disk drives. am so confused please help:-)

    Hi again
sorry i wrote that message last night when i was tired and realise it its just a poor description of my problem to say the least.
Basicaly the laptop L40 i have bought is from a friend who copied all the stuff he wanted to keep to his new laptop and just gave me it with his programs and music on it. It has two partitions on it and windows vista os that i personaly think is a load of rubbish. All i realy want to do is set it back to factory setting and have one main partition instead of 2 small one's then load a fresh install of win 7 (no upgrade). It is a new windows 7 disk that fell of the shelf at work (cough) but is 100% never been used brand new. My computer know how is as good as my grammer (which is poor). i have changed bios to boot from dvd and pressed any key to boot it first load bar goes fine then second stops at 1/3 and a message about me not unplugging a storage device pops up and tells me i can go no further.
So i tried to boot it from the vista desk top in my computer went well at first then message poped up about correct hard disk drivers not installed from there the confussion started.
If u could dumb down or give me a description of were to find the info u need im more than happy to do it just not confident with pc's let alone vista

  • Satellite L40 - Sleed and stand-by does not work properly

I have a Satellite L40 notebook and it worked properly until now. I turn it on and after that I put it on the sleep mode (stand-by mode); when I want to use my system, so to get it back to the normal mode (I press the turn on/off button to get out of the sleep mode), the Windows Vista 32-bit restarts - it doesn't get back to the moment that I left it before the sleep mode.
Therefore, Windows Vista 32-bit restarts and the "Windows has been turned off incorrectly" screen appears instead of returning to the system configuration that I left it before the sleep/stand-by mode.
What can I do to fix this problem and make the sleep mode work properly?

    Hi!
In your case I would make a BIOS update. You can search for updates on the Toshiba website
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
You should also look in the power mangment. There you configure what happened when you close the display, press the power button and so far.
I have found a really good thread about this:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=141529&#141529
    Bye

  • Re: Satellite L40-18X PSL48E: brightness goes back to max after every reboot

    Hello,
    i have Satellite L40-18X, short model: PSL48E
bought it with Vista, the bios is version 1.70.
There is very annoying problem with the brightness regulator of the display:
Every time i restart the Vista OS the brightness is set to Maximum and i have to switch it back to smaller brightness.
By hibernating the OS there is no problem - brightness is just fine as i leaved it - the same percent.
The Fn keys + F6 and F7 are working fine, in OS and in BIOS - everywhere, but after i start the OS the brightness is on the highest level
Absolutely the SAME problem is in windows XP (with the same bios 1.70) - Fn keys are working fine, but when os starts - brightness is always on Max level, by hibernating is OK.
    Can you give me suggestion?
Now i don't want to reflash the bios, because on the website there is older version 1,60 for Vista and i cannot have the mine version.
    Appreciate any help :)

You are right, the power profiles in vista have brightness regulator, and from there
the problem is fixed :) Thanks.
Now stays the Windows XP sp2 with the same brightness problem. All drivers are working
    - wlan, sound, everything - I've downloaded the xp drivers from the site.
    I installed these:
    1)ATK Hotkey Driver\2ksetup.exe
    2)ATK Hotkey Utility Driver\Setup.exe
-hotkeys are working, but same problem by reboot of OS - brightness @ Max level
    I checked what apps start automatically - D:\Program files\ ATK Hotkey\Hcontrol.exe
starts - it is responsible for the hotkey menu. I tried with and without this app -
but no fix. Any other suggestions? (In power profiles of Win XP there are no settings
for brightness :( ) Will the problem be fixed if i install the XP bios, because as I said I doesn't want to install another version, because i will loose my "new" 1.70 bios
    (not available for download)?

  • Satellite L40-139 won't start

    ?02-19-2014 06:41 PM - edited ?02-19-2014 06:45 PM
Hello, i have a problem with SATELLITE L40-139
the thing is when i press power button, hard drive diode starts to flash, diode on cd-rom is lighted and the screen is black. I noticed that electornics in the CD-ROM makes a sound tick in the same way the hdd diode flashes (when it flashes i hear a tick form cd-rom, yes i unfolded whole notebook).
I can only say that i connected HDD to my PC and it's working., well fan isn;t working too but i think it will start, after some time (like always it did)
Now lets say about notebook crash circumstances: That was a year ago, it fell from 1 inch (such height ;]) i saw that ribbon cable that was connecting touchpad to the mohterboard was broken, and my computer diidn't start, i thought theres a problem, but i forgot about it and left the notebook for over 9 months (with disassebled hdd, cd-rom and battery) then i decided to try to switch it on.
And viola! it works it boots etc.
So after a month of being happy i got drunk that i couldn't sit on chair and i decided to lie with my laptop on bed, i just lied down and put notebook on my stomach and it crashed (freezed screen) i decided to reboot it, but it won't start.
Heres a video with what i get during powering it up: [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jC0pGBBVwJk] (not luckily my phone fell into mud and lags when i record videos)
Some people suggested that i should connect external display to see if theres any image, but the result is still the same. (Screen does not even power on)
Maybe someone could help me fix it without sending it to customer service.
    Cheers.

    Hi
    >So after a month of being happy i got drunk that i couldn't sit on chair and i decided to lie with my laptop on bed, i just lied down and put notebook on my stomach and it crashed (freezed screen) i decided to reboot it, but it won't start.
I think the notebook overheated or something like that
Maybe its just an RAM problem and therefore it would be useful to test the unit in connection with new, tested RAM modules but this is only an idea
As Dr.Lamp already said, in worst case it might be a motherboard problem and this would mean that notebook fix would be a costly affair.

  • Satellite L40 won't shut down with power connected, and won't go in standby

Hi everybody. I hope someone can help me. Basically, there are two problems: one with shutting the laptop (Satellite L40-17U (Vista 32-bit Home Premium SP1) ) down when the power is connected, and one with closing the lid and putting it to sleep.
    1. Since a few weeks, it suddenly doesn't want to shut down, whenever the power is connected. When it is on battery, it will shut down. When the power is connected and I try shutting it down, it seems like it shuts down (all activity ceases and the LEDs go off) for about 1 or 2 seconds, and then it goes back on.
    2. When I close the lid (all settings in Vista are set to put the laptop in 'sleep' status when the lid is closed) the laptop goes into a state from which it can only be recovered by shutting it down by pressing the on/off button for about 10 seconds to completely shut it down. When closing the lid, only the battery LED keeps blinking orange (the way it should be), but apparently the laptop keeps consuming power, because when I reboot it later (first having to shut it down as described above) the battery tends to be quite a emptier than it was before rebooting it (like going from 100% to 65% in 30 minutes, while being in 'sleep' state). Also, when I open the lid, the other LEDs do go on again (green), but nothing happens.
After rebooting by first pressing the on/off button for 10 seconds to shut it down, I frequently get a message that Windows could not be started, and have to run System Repair.
I've just done a completely clean installation with the product recovery CD (didn't install SP1 yet), upgraded the BIOS to v1.90, but the problem remains.
I'm afraid my only option will be to bring it away for a warranty repair, but knowing that these repairs can take weeks, I'd prefer to try a solution anyone here could recommend me first. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Daniel Breslauer

    Hi guys
Never had such issue on my notebook but regarding to another users here in the forum the BIOS might help to solve such strange notebook behavior
To be honest the shut down issue is not known to me I noticed an standby issue on my notebook but the BIOS update helped.
Therefore I recommend updating the BIOS firstly.
If the issue will still appear, then the ASP should take a look into the notebook.
    Good luck

  • I can't turn the Wifi on, Satellite L40-18Z

    Hi there,
I've been using Satellite L40-18Z but I can't turn on Wifi.
I'm very sure that Tthe device is installed propery and I tried some ways to turn on Wifi device but never turned on. Of course, never catched the signal. Rooter has no problem either.
Deveice manager says ithe device works propery. And the driver is correctly installed. But I can't turn on from windows mobility centre or network setting.
It's very embarrassing to post something like this but I need your help.
P.S. this is the first time I post on this thread but who answers? Toshiba support team?
    Thanks,

I have the same problem. Does anyone cope with it? Have my wifi disabled can't switch it on, tried to reinstall it nothing work.
Have it installed and work correctly thru device manager. Wifi can't be enabled and find network, all other devices are working properly. Access point have no limitation or something else in their settings.
Windows diagnostic can't resolve this issue. Shows that "wifi is still disabled on this computer" FN+F8 doens't wotk too.
Any help are more then wellcome.
I suppose this is Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter bug within Thoshiba Laptop.
    Thanks in advance.
    PS
Running Vista Home Premium that goes with laptop. 100 mb network is working ok.

  • Lan and WLan does not work on Satellite L40-18W

    Hi all
I have TOSHIBA Satellite L40-18W and my problem 1- wireless not work & wired lan does not work.
I have download driver and every thing is ok but it does not work ( when i search by wireless i do not find any network. My router is working fine)
    plzz help meeeee

    Hi
Its hard to understand what you mean by not working.
    What does this mean exactly?
Are you not able to connect to the internet or what?
Usually if the WLan card and the LAN card have been recognized properly in device manager then the drivers are working fine and the issue could be related to wrong router configuration or maybe to some enabled firewalls, etc
Firstly I recommend checking the router settings. Check if the router has been configured with the right data from ISP and if all other common options have been set correctly.
The notebook supports Realtek Wlan and LAN card.
Check if Wlan card uses the same WLan standard like the WLan router and if right encryption has been used too.
