Satellite L40 psl40e - No sound after installing Win XP

I installed windows xp sp3 on my psl40e and can't get the sound to work. i have downloaded drivers all day and couldn't get it going. i installed everest and it says that i have Intel 82801GB ICH7 - High Definition Audio Controller.

Dont know what you have done wrong here but here is also another thread where the user has solved the same issue;

1) instal the soun driver from the driver package given in toshibas support site
2) go to control panel->system->hardware tab->device manager
there you should see a monitor like icon with a yellow warning sign "PCI device"
3) try updating drivers for this device selecting from the list hihg definition audio.. it should get working, at least it did for me!

Finally got my U300 working with XP, but I can't get the sound working. Appropriate drivers are installed, but nothing. The hardware was working under Vista, so this seems to be a driver problem. I think the realtek installer for somereason doesn't completely finish the configuration.

Getting pretty nervous now, as I need sound for Skype in my business.

Hi!
I had the same problem when trying to install XP on my U300. I now regetfully deleted the files I used, which is a shame - I did not know others had similar problems.
However, if my m serves me right, the second patch suggested by Pedro (KB835221) is the correct one.
The first one is the theoretical fix for HD audio, but SP3 RC1 will not allow its installation, since it thinks the patch is older than the service pack itself.
The second patch appears to be the same thing, but modified for SP3 to accept it.
The second patch should work, and after installing it, you should be able to install the sound drivers normally.

Satellite Pro 4600 Missing Sound After Installing Windows 98SE

I have installed Windows 98SE onto my 4600 whose specs are:
Model PS460A-04163
P850 14TX 128M 20 DVD ML
I have no sound at all and all sound options are grayed out. I have downloaded a sound driver from Toshiba (Yamaha AC-XG ?) but maybe it was not the correct one. Can someone point me in the right direction for the correct sound driver. I'm also not sure what "series" this model comes under. Thanks for your help. Sep.

Thanks for that. I have tried the Canadian site however the model type I have (PS460A) doesn't exist on their search selection drop down for Part Number. Perhaps it is know as a different model in other countries (I'm in Oz)? Maybe it doesn't matter and I can just pick one of the other 4600 models - I'm unclear on this. Can anyone confirm? Portege 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro

I'm a novice when it comes to laptops, so here is the problem: My 3110ct has no sound after installing XP Pro. Didn't have sound when I bought it with another operating system on, report says no sound device installed.
Does this mean I need to get a chip for the laptop or is it a driver I need & where can I find the part or the driver for this.
Please help.

Usually if the sound driver was not installed you will get no sound but also a yellow exclamation mark should appear in the device manager.
If the sound card chip is damage I presume you will be not able to see the yellow exclamation belonging to the sound card in the device manager.
You bought this Portg as a second hand unit. Am I right?
So possibly the sound card is faulty.
The computer uses a ESS ES1978 (Maestro-2E) and ES1918 sound chip.
Check if you can find an XP sound driver in the internet.

I cannot find your audio driver on HP's support page, but I was able to locate this one, which is the same driver as yours, just the most recent version. According to what is listed, it supports Windows 8. Give it a shot and let me know if it works for you.

Satellite P100-257 - No sound after Win 7 installation

Need help...
I have Satellite P100-257, upgraded from XP to WIN 7. Now my sound device don't work.
I installed driver, but still nothing. In device properties says: device not installed.
However, when I run diagnostic, says that driver has problems and that problem will be fixed after reinstalling driver.
So, it keeps me in the loop all the time.
Tried download some drivers from net, even buy Toshiba Recovery Disk for my model (payed 15$ !!!! for gad's sake!!!!)...
Now, my knowledge here is limited, so any tips, suggestions, solutions are more than welcome!

Acctually, after 2 days cracking my head about it, I was this close to buying new machine :)
But, solution was acctually more simple than I thought...And felt so stupid after I finally figured it. Well, Win 7 is more similar to XP than it is to Vista, so I just run simple chec for XP sound drivers on Toshiba download support web site, and it came with one driver for this specific model: *sound-20071106151533.zip* driver. Just needed to check in driver properties for compatibility (XP service pack 3 mode) and simple install...That was it... Run smoothly on WIn 7.
Sometimes, only solution is the simplyest one :)

Satellite L40-17R - FN Sound Volume Hotkey problem - Windows XP

I've recently bought Satellite L40-17R (PSL4CE) without OS preinstalled. I've installed Windows XP Home Edition SP 2.
Then I have installed all drivers I have found for this model on Toshiba driver site. I've even upgraded BIOS.
After that all Fn hotkeys works fine *except those responsible for volume control (Fn + Up/Down Arrow, Esc)*.
I have searched the forum for solution of this problem and found this topic

but I am unable to install +ATK Hotkey Utility+ and +ATK Hotkey Driver+ since I cannot find *Driver Package* at Toshiba driver site:

Am I missing something? Is my Toshiba drivers link not up to date? Is there any other solution to make sound hotkeys work?

I've tried Ubuntu Linux on L40-17R and it can control the brightness automatically. For example, when u plug out the AC power (i.e. switch to battery) the brightness goes down to certain level automatically. And It can maintain the brightness level after rebooting.
I cannot find the same feature in Windows XP.
I think this is due to the missing of power saver utility. It can control the brightness automatically. and also for all other options.

Satellite L40-14H - Black screen after updating BIOS

I have Satellite L40-14H (PSL48E) notebook. I have installed WindowsXP, it worked ok, except the digital keyboard was turned on permanently so I couldn't type a couple of symbols. Than I decided to install special BIOS for WinXP, that have downloaded from Toshiba web-site. The PSL48x model is in support list. Alter flashing from Windows and rebooting, I entered to BIOS to see what changed. I've seen nothing new, so I exit the BOIS and reboot again.
Since that moment, the notebook turns on, but the screen doesn't, it is black :-(((
Please help me, how can I back it to live?

Am really getting annoyed with this as the computer is only 10 months old and i can see that there are several people on these forums who have similar problems. Dont mean to sound negative but it dosent make me want to choose a Toshiba again in the future. Will try the customer support tomorrow but not really expecting much.

Hi, I'm hoping someone will be able to help. My sister has a compaq 58 laptop and after installing windows 8.1, now has no sound. The sound was there when 8.1 was installed but after logging off and logging back on again, the sound disappeared. We reinstalled windows 8.1 and same thing happened. We have run scans and got sound again but once again logging off and logging back on again, the sound disappeared, very frustrating.

Devina, This seems to be a common problem with Windows 8.1. It does not save a working state when logging off. I was afraid to touch my pc when the AUDIO was in a working state. However Microsoft logged me off with no fear and did not save the working state. What a great "glutware" corp. Having said that when the AUDIO is working it appears to work great! Sure wish HP/MICROSOFT could get their act together. Can you say "BASE BAND" , "DSP", "FIR" ETC. Well they think they know the fancy stuff. Now if they could just get it to function for normal people. Can you say "KISS".

After installing the new Adobe Flash Player 11.7 I have no sound.
I reinstalled, uninstalled and started the imac new but I find no solution.
When I'm starting the imac, I always heard the opening sound.
After searching and contacting the support with no results, I try to turn
up the volume at the source and connect the soundsystem again and
now can hear the music.
I think Adobe reduce the sound of the source at zero, and the imac
rest on the last position.

Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

[SOLVED] No sound after installing pulseaudio

Hi,
I recently installed pulseaudio to be able to use skype since their update to version 4.3.
I installed with additional stuff using the command:
$ sudo pacman -S pulseaudio pulseaudio-alsa pavucontrol lib32-libpulse
After installing I ran the commands:
$ pulseaudio -k
$ pulseaudio --start
At this point, skype and sound were working properly again.
After rebooting my computer, I completely lost the sound. I tried killing and restarting pulseaudio and reinstalled twice, but I never managed to have to sound back since...
Any suggestions?
