Satellite L450D-13U will not start at all

Yesterday the screen on my L450D when blank and then the machine closed down.
Now it will not start at all.
There are no lights on display when the power cable is attached.
When the start button is pressed all that happens is there is a momentary flash of the On light (not sure if that's the right name) and the DVD light.
You can also hear the fan starting up but that immediately goes off.
That's all that happens.
I've tried without the battery, tried discharging the battery.
Has my laptop just died?
Is there any hope or should I just move on?

I will agree with checking your RAM.
The best way to do so before you buy anything is to check each stick.
Remove the battery and AC cord, and press the power button several times to make sure the system is fully discharged.
Once it is discharged, ground yourself and pull the RAM cover. Remove the top stick ONLY. Plug the laptop back in, and try to boot it.
If you get nothing, swap the stick you pulled for the one that is still in the system, and try again.
After that, if it still does not want to boot up, take it to a shop. It could be something as simple as the BIOS battery being dead, or a burnt out power mosfet.

    Hello, Jdragone.
Thanks for the question.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.

  • Firefox will not start at all ... not even profile mananger will start

After an auto overnight reboot initiated by a Windows update (XP 5.1 SP3) Firefox will not start at all ... not even Profile Manager ... all that happens is a few seconds of hourglass on the cursor and then nothing ... this is happening on two different computers at the same time ... identical symptoms ... any advice?
== After overnight reboot by auto Windows update

I had the problem after I restarted the computer when Firefox indicated that was needed to install updates. After that every attempt to start Firefox resulted in no response at all. I went to my program list and found Firefox Safe Mode. That started OK. I then closed it. After that Firefox started OK.

    Hi....
Laptop belongs to my wife and this morning I am told that it will not start up.
Problem is .... Begins to start and shows symptoms of previous post by tommy1980murf.
Quick flash of a blue screen with text, then moves onto options for Safe Start, Safe network start ...etc...
No matter which optoin is chosen the laptop goes through the process bringing up the Windows XP logo then abruptly shuts down almost like a reboot. Process automatically starts over again and again.
Options on immediate power up are F2 and F12.
Does anyone have any advice to offer?
Thanks in advance for your help ...Andy

WIll it boot into Safe Mode?  If so right click on the My Computer Icon and select Properties.  Click on the Advanced Tab, then the Setting sbutton by Startup and Recovery.  Now make sure that the Automatically Restart checkbox is NOT checked then OK your way out.  Now when the blue screen appears the system will stop giving you a chance to read it and tell us EXACTLY what it says.  Not something like, EXACTLY WORD FOR WORD.  The lines you will be needing to post will be the ones in this picture http://www.pcstats.com/articleimages/200409/BSOD_2.gif that state:
STOP: and a string of NUMBERS (they are zeros not letter O's)
    and the
    Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL line.
Also look to see if they list any specific driver, file, or program.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Finder folder with question mark, now will not start at all!!!

Hey guys, I was working in Avid and i opened up Quicktime, all of a sudden i got a crash log. So i restarted, upon restart i got the finder folder with the blinking question mark. I tried restarting with the OS9 cd by holding down the C button, no luck there. So i moved onto the next step, resetting the PRAM, no luck there (just sat on black for numerous minutes until i let up, then the folder came back). Then I moved onto resetting th PMU, now it will not start up at all. I restart, and all i see is a black screen, nothing. Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.
The machine im workin on is a Powermac G4 (quicksilver), OS9, 1.5 G Ram, machine bases around Avid Editing system

    Ok let me clarify this.
1)system crashed restarted and got the folder with the ?
    2) tried to boot from the OS 9 CD no luck? it did not boot?

    4) Reset the PMU chip and the mac is dead won't start up at all?
    a couple of ideas too...
did you press the pmu button more than once?
Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in correctly etc.
Check the Pram battery to see if it might be dead it should read between 3.3v and 3.7v
also try to restart the computer without other devices plugged into it (USB Firewire, keyboard, even monitor.

  • Firefox will not start at all

New versions of Firefox will not start and only bring up the crash reporter. I've tried starting in safe mode, I've deleted/created new Profiles and I've uninstalled/installed Firefox over and over. I can still download 28.0 and it has no problem opening. Below is the latest Crash ID from 35.0
    Crash ID: bp-4ac8fb2d-9a2a-4a6a-a9e4-06cc42150125

hello sid.robinson, this crash is caused by the "Digital Guardian" software by Verdasys that is running on your computer. Please see if there's an update available for that program.

  • New Satellite Pro L300 will not start up or operate

My new laptop will not start operating.  I have done everything by the book in regard to installation, but once it asks for my user name and password, it goes to a page where it says "Preparing your system".  Then after about 10 mins it goes back to the sign in page with my user name and password, and repeats the whole thing.
How do I fix this?  The laptop was bought new from ebay as a gift.

Getting a DOA is so random that it probably won't matter when you place your order. Right out of the box,the machine should start up instantly when you press the power button. Yours doesn't.
It sounds like it arrived with a dead battery and the power adaptor is not charging the battery. Even so, it should start up from the power adaptor alone. It could be that the power adaptor is not being recognized.
If you still have it, you could try resetting the SMC, which could possibly get things working again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
Your satisfaction is important to Apple. If your machine has problems out of the box, they would rather give you a replacement immediately than to mess around with one which obviously has a problem of some sort. The one you return will go to the repair depot and the problem will be found and repaired if possible. Then it goes to the online store and is sold as a refurbished machine.
A power issue like yours may be simple to fix, or it may not be. The last thing you want to do with an expensive brand new machine is to find out it is defective in some way and have to send it off for repair. You would much rather just give back the defective machine and get another one that is not defective, and I think Apple realizes this.
There's really no reason to wait before submitting a new order--you can do it at your convenience.
    Good luck!

  • My MacBook Pro will not start at all., My MacBook Pro will not start at all.

The only previous problem was a few days ago the colors on my display looked a little off/fuzzy. I immediately restarted and the problem didn't return. Then today, I had it shut but when I opened it it was off and will not start again. It sounds like it's on as there's a slight fan noise, also the charge lights go up to fully charged. But there is no noise or anything when I try to start it.
I'm not sure  if this is a coincidence, butt I started using a new charger today. It was second hand but the same one as before.
It was purchased in early 2012, not sure what OS.  Any help is appreciated!

    Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/ph14222
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
Test with another charger. If this does not help, contact Apple.

  • Toshiba Satellite A305-S6872 Will not start up

I have the above mentioned computer and it is 2 years old. Last year in January the hard drive crashed and had to have new one installed at Best Buy. Now it will not start up. When I turn it on the Toshiba screen displays with F2 and F12 options. Then the creen goes black and the following displays:
    Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 082)
    Copyright (C) 1997-2000 Intel Corporation
    For realtek RTL8101E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v1.07 (080320)
PXE-E61: <edia test failure, check cable
    PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
I insert the recovery CD and it says windows loading files then has a screen that says Selecting a Process: Toshiba Recovery Wizard or System Recovery Options. I choose System Recover Options and then choose English language and US keyboard layout. Then the following screen comes up: Select an operating system to repair .... If you do not see your operating system listed click Load Drivers to load drivers for your hard disks. When I choose Load Drivers I do not know where to find the OS driver. When I click Next and choose Startup Repair it says it is unable to fix the problem automatically.
I don't want to choose Toshiba recover Wizard because it says it will erase everything. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

The exact same thing happened to me yesterday Feb 5!!!
During normal use of windows 7 the computer crashed and went through the same boot procedure as described by the previous poster.
Now I can't do anything with my hard drive. I tired everything. I even tried restoring it from the backup image that I have, but it said that it cannot find hard drive!
I do not have Toshiba Recovery. Can I download it from somewhere?
Does anyone have any suggestions? After booting from Win 7 Recovery Disk, I even tried fixing the MBR and partitions, but I would always get an error message that the system doesn't support the software I tried using (guessing because it's 64bit?)
Please, any suggestion is most welcome and appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Djape

  • Firefox crashes - will not start at all

If I try and start Firefox all I get is the Mozilla Crash Reporter, if I try and restart Fireofox from the Crash Reporter screen all I get presented with is the Mozila Crash Reporter again. If I try and submit a crash report the Crash Reporter states "there was a problem submitting your report", hence no crash ID available.
The issue started when I updated my old, maybe version 5, Firefox with version 9, since then I have been unable to start Firefox.
I have tried unistalling Firefox, including deleting personal settings, and restarting the PC in between deleting Firefox and attempting to reinstall it. None of this works. Firefox will also not start in safe mode.
Mozilla Crash Reporter details added to the below Troubleshooting Information info box.

Does Firefox start if you boot Windows in Safe mode (press F8 on the boot window)?

  • Satellite M115-S3154 will not start Windows XP

Opened new post per Jerry concerning my 3yr old Satellite: M115-S3154 w/ Windows XP Media Ctr Ed 2005
Yesterday upon start up, I immediately rec'd message stating:
    - "windows did not start successfully - recent hardware or software changes might have caused this"
    - it gave options to restart in the 3 different Safe Modes, last known configuration and start normally - none of these worked. I've tried numerous times yesterday and today with absolutely no luck.
When I shut laptop down 2nites ago, it seemed like it shut down extremely fast?! Today I realized that battery yellow light was on and thought maybe it wasn't charged enough. Charged for over 2hrs, have a blue light, but still had same experience as above.
    - I removed and replaced battery - no luck
    - I removed and replaced HDD - no luck
I just now, followed your advice on pressing F8 immediately after start - however, there is no repair mode or whatever you mentioned under the Windows Advanced Options Menu for this laptop - what I do have is
= the 3 different Safe modes - tried all these, no help
= Enable Boot Logging - tried this, no help
    = Enable VGA Mode
= Last Known Good Configuration... - tried this, no help
= Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only) - tried this, no help
= Debugging Mode -    tried this, no help
= Disable automatic restart on system failure
= Start Windows Normally - tried this, no help
= Reboot - tried this, no help
= Return to OS Choices Menu
I attempted the Microsoft Knowledge Base article suggested by Jerry -
Advanced troubleshooting for general startup problems in Windows XP - but no help.
I also tried MS article 310353 - How to configure WinXP to start in a "clean boot", but under Method 1, the downloadable guided help would not run on this computer i'm using to figure out the Toshiba problem. Method 2 of this guide requires you to be able to open windows - pretty dumb since I can't get windows to run in first place! So I'm still stuck.
I do have the original Toshiba Recovery and Applications CD - I have many files and pics that I do not want to lose.
    thanks roo

    Satellite M115-S3154
there is no repair mode or whatever you mentioned under the Windows Advanced Options Menu for this laptop
That was for the Windows Vista thread you jumped in to.
= Disable automatic restart on system failure
Did you try this one? Instead of a reboot, it should give you a blue screen with the STOP error and possibly the file responsible. We could use that information.
Ihave many files and pics that I do not want to lose.
If the hard drive is still okay (there's no reason so far to doubt that), we should be able to rescue the files.
One way is to put the hard drive in an enclosure and plug that into another computer.
You can also make a bootable CD with tools. Let us know.
