Satellite L455D-S5976 booting problems

I turn on the computer and the toshiba start screen come on.
save press f2 for setup and f12 for something else I can't remember right now
then it goes to black with a blinking cursor on top corner.  Then that disappears and the screen goes blank.
It doesn't go to the Windows 7 login screen.
I NEED HELP!!!
most of my school work is on there,
it is very important

most of my school work is on there,
If the hard disk is still operational, it's time to rescue those files. Two ways.
1. Create a bootable CD with another OS and tools on it. See, for example,  BartPE, Knoppix, UBCD4Win, and Ubuntu. Any of these will see a drive with the NTFS file system. Copy the files to a USB peripheral.
2. Remove the hard drive and place it in an enclosure accessible from a desktop via USB.

  • Satellite L455D-S5976 no recovery utility

I'm having a problem with a Satellite L455D-S5976 and the recovery utility.  I have tried the press zero while starting and get the "HDD recover mode" flash on the screen.  Then windows 7 starts.  I get the win7 startup animation then blank and the mouse pointer appears.  The hard drive has been blinking up until this point then stops and nothing else happens.  It just sits there.
I'm out of options. I don't know what to do now.  Anyone else have any thoughts.

Have you tried <F8> instead? Power on the machine then press and hold the <F8> key until you "Repair Your Computer", hit <ENTER>. Hit <ENTER> to get past the two login screens and then you should see a menu. Click on "Command Prompt". At the command prompt type "diskpart". The following is non-destructive, At the diskpart command prompt type:
    "sel vol c" + <ENTER>
if you do not receive an error
    "sel par 3" + <ENTER>
if you do not receive an error
"det par" + <ENTER>  WARNING: Do NOT type "DEL" it's "DET". Typing "DEL" will delete the HDD recovery partition!
Check what it says for "Type : ?" If this is NOT 17, then type:
    "SET ID=17" + <ENTER>
if you do not receive an error type:
    "exit" + <ENTER>
    "exit" + <ENTER>
Now shutdown the machine and try the "0" key process again.
If this IS 17, then type:
    "exit" + <ENTER>
    "exit" + <ENTER>
Select "TOSHIBA Recovery Wizard" to launch the recovery process.
I Tried all this and my type was 17 I finished and then shut down and restart and my screen is still black!! Help )

  • Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 wont let me download

I just got a new Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 yesterday, and I downloaded a couple of programs already, then I had trouble downloading a few:
    iTunes
    MapleStory
    Sony Vegas 8
    There's different problems with each program, But iTunes and Sony Vegas always run the same;
They open, ask run or cancel, and when I press run, this window pops up.
With Maplestory, it opens, extracts the file, THEN the same window pops up. I don`t know what I did. My brother has a Toshiba with Windows 7 too and it works perfectly fine for him.
I`ve searched all day long, and nothing works. Running as administrator does nothing, it still happens. I would reformat or clear my hard drive, but I didn`t get a disk to reinstall Windows 7 onto my laptop.
    Any Solutions?

Sony Vegas Pro 8 doesn't run under Windows 7 according to Sony.  Only version 9 runs under WIn 7 so that takes care of that.
    What version of iTunes?
Have you checked with Maplestory or Apple about what you need to run their software on WIndows 7?

  • Satellite L455D-S5976: Disk system part deleted

    Hi!!!!
    Configuration:
    TOSHIBA Satellite L455D-S5976
    AMD Sempron SI-42
    2GB DDR2 RAM, 250 GB HDD
I have trouble with my Hard disk.
The disk configuration was like this:
Part C: System about 300 Mb
Part D: second part about 120 Gb
Part F: third part about 120 Gb
I tried to reset this configuration like this:
Part C: Primary part about 120 Gb
Part D: Second part about 120 Gb
Part F: System about 300 Mb
So I delete the system part and configuration completed succefully.
But now It's impossible to install the system on the computer.
Is it possible to restore the small system part?
    Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you created restore discs when you got the computer, you can use them to completely recover your computer to factory defaults. If not, you'll need to order recovery media from Toshiba.

  • Satellite A660 - USB boot problems after BIOS update

    Hello,
I own a Toshiba Satellite A660 and recently have update the BIOS to the latest version (1.80). Since then the notebook will freeze on the boot screen (the one with the Toshiba logo) whenever a USB flash memory is attached.
It works without the flash memory connected and also if I connect it after I enter the boot menu or the BIOS setup. I can even boot from it like this.
As far as I am concerned this is a serious regression. Is there any way I can downgrade the BIOS version, or any other way to fix this issue ? I rely heavily on external USB drives.
    Regards,
    Claudiu.

I too am having problems with my A660 since upgrading to 1.80 bios - the HDD/SD utility, the pc health monitor and half the other toshiba utilities no longer work because they can't recognize the bios and actually tell me this... I get an error message telling me ''can't get bios type''...
On top of this I get the boot problem as well - I have to unplug half of my USB devices to get the laptop to boot properly...
And now - one month into owning my new A660 - after a hard drive failure, a problem with the Broadcom internal wireless adaptor I now have the internal TV tuner no longer working and have no idea how to fix it...
My gut feeling is that the sooner I can downgrade to the original factory bios the BETTER - and wait for another bios update to come along that is not faulty/buggy...
HOPE someone can help me with this...
    John.

Today I just bought a Satellite A305-S6905 at Bestbuy, but unfortunately I could not successfully boot up it. Is there anyone who can help me to solve this problem?  The technic terms shown on the screen are the following:
    "For Realtek RTL810E/8102E PCI-E Ethernet Controller v.1.07 (000320
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key
I tried the change the boot method with F2 setup, and checked that the harddisk is working, but the problem is still there. I don't know what's wrong- it's a 100% new computer of a name brand!!!

  • Satellite L455D-S5976 - blue screen after BIOS update

fan wasnt operating properly causing overheat so updated bios,
    see here
    [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=67086&tstart=0]
and now i am blue screening (it flashes extremely quickly) just as the windows xp screen on booting appears. keeps doing over and over, please help.
    *edit,*
incidentally as the bios started updating the fan immediately picked up speed. strange.

So you are not able to access BIOS???
Press F2 immediately (press it many times in the row) after notebook has been power on
But if you are not able to access the BIOS, I assume that there is a serious problem with BIOS/hardware possibly something went wrong during the updatebut usually this should not happen and its sounds strange
However, I think in such case just an ASP technician would help you.

  • Satellite l455d-s5976

I recently had to replace a bad hard drive in this machine, purchased the recovery disks from Toshiba. Installed the drive (WD 320 7200 rpm) and the software (WIN 7 home 32 bit) , software continually restarts with "configuring system", let this go for hours, now it comes up with a request for an administrator user name and password that I did not set and do not know what either would be. What am I doing wrong or how do I fix this? Any and all help is appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So far as I know, that drive should not give any trouble. See WD Scorpio Black.
You should be able to restore to any (non-AFT) SATA drive whose size is larger than the image. Sorry, I don't know what the problem might be.
See the section Restoring from recovery DVDs/media, which begins on p. 69 of the User's Guide.

  • Satellite 2430 XP Boot Problem

Windows XP won't load on my Satellite 2430-402 laptop saying that the C:\Windows\System32\config\system file is missing or corrupted and to try running the repair option.
I have 2 Toshiba Recovery CD's from which I have managed to run the DOS-based recovery programme which has 2 options:
    1. Full Restore, which I don't want to do
    2. Selective Restore, which I do want to do, but have no instructions
I do not appear to have an XP CD from which I could run Microsoft's recovery application.
Can anyone provide me with the steps to undertake a selective recovery from Toshiba's (actually Symantec's) dos-based recovery CD?
    Thanks

    Hi,
In this case I am always merciless. Back-up data and make new installation. Only then I am 100% sure that everything works properly. :)
Anyway, if you want to make new installation with Recovery CD there are two possibilities:
    - Standard mode (whole partition will be deleted and OS new installed)
    - Expert mode (you can chose on what partition you want to install OS)
Very important is that there is no Repair option. This option you can find on Microsoft WindowsXP CD.
There are few possibilities to try to repair your OS. You can try to replace defective system file. Copy system files from another PC and replace it. I must also tell you that there is no 100% guarantee that it will be successful.
You can also try to provide Microsoft WindowsXP CD (full version). Maybe you can have some success with repair option.
Next possibility is to use Windows Recovery Console. I assume you have access to a second computer. Go here for instructions which may help you.
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314058
This article describes the functionality and limitations of the Windows Recovery Console. If your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer does not start correctly or if it does not start at all, you can use the Windows Recovery Console to help you recover your system software.
A few days ago here was interesting posting about this theme. You can find it on:

  • Satellite L455D-S5976 Errors

This laptop is only about a month old.  Sometimes it starts up fine, but sometimes when I start up, after I enter my password, I get various errors.  They are never the same and sometimes it's just one, sometimes as many as 5 or 6. (Explorer has stopped responding, suchandsuch file is corrupt, suchand such is missing, etc)  I will then restart the laptop and let it chkdsk and sometimes its fine and sometimes it will start with the errors again.  This morning I had to run chkdsk 5 times before it started running correctly.  I can't figure out if this is a Windows 7 issue or a laptop/hard drive issue.  Is there a way to bring up logs from the chkdsk so I can see what the problems were? It is completely random.  At one point it was fine for about a week then started again.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

Five months later it is still doing this.  I have used my recovery disks twice, and done everything I can possibly think of.  I guess tomorrow I will spend me day on the phone with Tech support, but I am fearful they wont be able to help since the erros are so random.  I have still yet to decide if its Windows or the laptop.  I do know whatever it is, its a piece of garbage and I hate it!

  • How can I get a 64 bit recovery media for a Satellite L455D-S5976

This machine came with a 32 bit processor along with a 32 bit operating system. Not long ago I upgraded the processor to a dual core AMD Turion 64x. I created recovery media, but it is a 32 bit version. I have an upgrade win 7 that I believe will do the trick but I would rather do it with the Toshiba recovery media. Anyone have a possible solution.

  • L455D-S5976 Reformat to 64 bit

I recently bought a new Toshiba laptop, so I am reformatting my L455D to give to my moher in law. I upgraded the ram last year to the max 8 gig, but because I was running 32 bit, it could not use it all. I am using my sys recovery discs to do a full reset, but I am not finding where I can have the option of installing a 64 bit version. Is there a way I can move up to the 64 bit so it will use all of the ram installed?

I repied elsewhere. Here it is again.
    Satellite L455D-S5976
    Downloads here.
You would need to install a retail copy of 64-bit Windows 7 and then install all of the drivers and utilities that make it work properly on this model. It's not a minor undertaking. And there is always the chance that you won't be able for one reason or another to get things working right. If you install 64-bit Windows Home Premium, you are entitled to activate it for free.
32-bit Windows supports 4 of your 8 GB. Our computers here with several Office 2010 applications running rarely require more than 2 GB and never approach 3 GB.
I feel certain your mother-in-law will do very nicely with 4 GB.

  • Toshiba L455d-S5976 cpu upgrade

Ok im not sure why this isn't posting but one more tryMy wife has the Toshiba L455d-S5976. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to upgrade to a duel core? If not is there any possible upgrades at all? Thanx in advance

Hi. This l455d-S5976 toshiba satellite needs help readying for windows 10 instead of going in to a landfill.Had the RM-72 AMD Turion X2 put in Need to upgrade ram--the samsung 2gb memory stick purchased and returned back wouldn't boot together alongside the factory stick. Speculation: Is it because of the laptop being maxed out on 35 watts instead of sempron's 25 watts? It booted on either of those sticks just not together. Is there a need to get a special certain ram stick that couples well with the factory stick? Folks have been theorizing saying after the "upgrade", the laptop wont support dual channel (2 sticks) Many a blog on this subject has been skimmed.Should one throw out the factory ram stick and buy a 3 gb one (since win7 32bit only sees like 3 to 3.5 gb of ram and the computer wants only one ram slot filled)?

  • HELP!!!! Error code 0xc0000034 boot problem

Hi, my less than a year old Toshiba Satellite encountered the Boot BCD Error screen, I looked online for support and creted a recovery USB drive from a friends PC.  I followed the directions I found that led me to the US > Trouble Shoot > Advanced Option screens I put in all the Bootrec/ xxx   suggested commands, got to the end and it told me the system is not recognizable, is there another way to get the PC to boot after this error mesg?
Can someone please help with this?
    Thanks

Hello there... Hopefully this will help you get back up and running.
Ran into the same issue when I booted my PC this morning. Blue screen
Your PC needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data File is missing some required information.
    File: \BCD
    Error code: 0xc0000034
blah blah... Alright so you mententioned you've created the USB stick and booted into it.
Click the trouble shoot icon -> advanced -> command prompt.  Then enter the following commands one by one.
For my build C:/ is the windows harddrive. If your harddrive with windows on it isn't C:/ then change the letter to match your configuration. See at the bottom if you are unsure, I'll post some commands to help you work out which is your windows drive.
    Bootrec /fixmbr
    Bootrec /fixboot
    Bootrec /scanos
    Bootrec /rebuildbcd
After each line hit enter, you will see a success message. Then finally type in..
    BCDboot c:\windows /s c: /l en-us
The slash after the C: and before windows has to be a backslash.
    Reboot and you're done.
Run this fix on 4 coumputers so far, haven't determinted which part of the process fixes it but haven't run into any problems on doing the above.
    Finding out your windows drive
In the command prompt type in
diskpart     hit enter and a new window will open. then in that window type
list volume      hit enter once again and your drives will be listen along with the drive letter
    /Widowmaker.
