Satellite L500-1WP - Higher screen resolution than HD?

Good day!
I use Toshiba Satellite L500-1WP. I have bought a new monitor Dell U2711 with max resolution 2560x1440. I tryed to connect this monitor to my computer using HDMI cable, the video card identifies that monitor as an HD TV and makes max. resolution possible 1920x1080.
Is it possible to make theese 2 work together with the resolution I need (2560x1440), or I should buy a new computer with DVI port?

Hi buddy,
You should check the user manual There I founded an information that the computer can display up to 2048 horizontal and 1536 vertical pixels at up to 16M colors.
So for me it sounds like you cant use the native screen resolution of your external monitor but normally 1080p should be good enough. :)

  • Satellite A660-1FM - Max. screen resolution of external monitor

    Hi All,
This may be (probably) an easy questions to answer but I have a Satellite A660-1FM and want to use it with my Samsung Syncmaster (forgotten model) external screen. I grabbed an HDMI->DVI-D adapter, and all is well, but here is my question:
The toshiba specs page for my laptop (http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A660-1FM/1096013/toshibaShop/false/) shows an external resolution capability of:
    Max Resolution : 2,048 x 1,536
Max Refresh Rate : 100 Hz
    Non-interlaced resolution with max refresh rate : 1,920 x 1,200
But I get what I call standard HDMI resolution (not surprising I guess) when connected HDMI->DVI-D to my external monitor. I have previously run this monitor on my desktop at much high resolutions than 1080P, so the monitor is capable.
Just wondered what I'm missing here, or is it a case of the graphics card spec is higher than is possible to output from the laptop ?
    Thanks for any help
    Andy

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
As to native resolution of the external monitor - unsure how to find this - but it was running a with a lot higher res when it was connected to my old desktop (which has died and been replaced by this laptop)
R/E the adapter - My Samsung Syncmaster monitor has a DVI-D cable sticking out the back of it, so I needed to connect that to my laptop - either vga-> DVI-D or HDMI-DVI-D to make use of it.
The external monitor is currently running at 1680 x 1050 using the laptop HDMI output -> HDMI-DVI-D adapater -> external monitor.
Before my desktop died, using the same external monitor I was running at 1680 x (guessing a bit here) 2048 ish (really sure I had a greater y res, this 1050 lark is really squishy).. in any case, the Y resolution was much much much better than 1050.
But, according to the specification for this laptop, it can output 2048 x 1536 to an external device (How, the HDMI and VGA outptu cannot go that high right ?)
So, I'm trying to figure out how to get the resolution on the laptop spec onto my external monitior, which has more than handled this resolution before my old gaming desktop died.
Thanks again for the reply - I hope this makes my question clearer.
    Cheers

  • Cant get higher screen resolutions ???

    Hi all,
    hope you can help...
I installed my new Ge4 Ti4200 last night. All works well but in display properties/settings the highest res. I can get is 1280x1024. This isn't right, i have a 20" LaCie monitor and have used the same one elsewhere at higher resolutions.
I dont think the problem is with the monitor driver as i have tried different monitor drivers and in any case, they all say 1600x1200 etc.. in the monitor.inf. My computer at work will go 2048x1536 and thats using the "default monitor" driver provided by microsoft. so thats not limiting it.
I can only think that when i installed the Geforce software and drivers, somehow it didn't talk to teh monitor properly and therefore limited teh available resolutions. I used to have a voodoo 3 and I know that they are notorrious for leaving old files in your system so maybe somehow old voodoo software has limited the resolutions that teh card will allow in teh display properties ?
    any help would be appreciated

I do not know whether it helps, but I use Powerstrip .. very good software. It helps me to access monitor and video card settings easily. After installation and running this program it asks me whether I want Powerstrip to adjust resolutions that is allowed by my video card. After pressing yes I have rebooted PC. After that I could adjust screen resolutions in monitor settings up to 1600*1200 (used for plug and play default monitor). I notice that I use 15' monitor that support max resolution 1024*768 but PowerStrip allows me to change it up to 1600*1200. Of course I do not use resolutions higher than my monitor supports.
If you have no idea to solve your problem try this program. Maybe this one can help to access available resolutions correctly.
Here is the web page for PowerStrip: http://www.entechtaiwan.com

  • Need higher screen resolution on my t500

    Hello there!
My screen resolution is currently set to 1280x800 but I want it a bit higher. I bought it used with Windows 7, so I'm having a little trouble with the drivers.
Any help or ideas? I've already installed the Intel Graphics Series 4, but still can't get higher than 1280x800.
    Thanks in advance...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have been chasing a solution to my problem that is similar.
What I can tell you almost for sure (I haven't chec your device specs) is that 1280x800 is the physical resolution of your screen and there is nothing you can do about it. It is the number of pixsels and they cannot be split therefore resolutoin is fixed.
I can also tell you that until I bought my new X200 which sports a screen resolution of 1280x800 like yours and installed Windows 7 I could overcome the resolution limit by panning. What this means is that I set a larger resolution, say 2048x1536, and the portion of desktop not visible through the 1280x800 window (physical pixels) could be reached by panning. That is, when you move the mouse to the edge of the screen and beyond the physical screen shows the hidden region until you reach the actual 2048x1024 or you stop the mouse and return. It's like having a desk covered by a large sheet with a hole the size of notebook sheet  that you move around to see every part of the desk through the hole.
As I said prior to installing Win7 I could do this. Not anymore.
Furthermore, I can still do it in my older pc: an IBM X41 even in Win7.
My guess is that the problem lies in the display drivers. I check every so often but they are never updated to cover this issue. It doesn't seem  to bother many apart from me.

  • Satellite M110 - question on Screen resolution 1600 x 900

Hi experts, hoping you can help me out.
Just bought an external screen which needs 1600 x 900 screen resolution,.... trouble is my display settings don't have that option.
If I "Hide modes that this monitor cannot display" I can only choose 800x600 or 1024x768
If I uncheck this box "hide...display", the nearest I can choose are 1280x1024 or 1600x1200
Where is the 1600 x 900 option??? everything on the external screen is sttrreettched out.....
    I have
    - Satellite M110 PSMB0A
    - Windows XP
    - Display adapter says "Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family"
    - I've downloaded the latest driver, (at least I think I did!) and my driver version is 6.14.10.4543 dated 23/03/06
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi
There are two reasons why a favorite resolution is not available.
    1) the graphic card driver does not support such resolution
    2) or/and the graphic card doesnt support it too.
In the user manual of Satellite M110 you should find a info (somewhere at the end of user manual) what resolutions are supported and available.
If the graphic card would support such resolution then this would mean that your installed driver is the reason why you cannot choose this resolution.
In such case its advisable to update the driver and to use the one from the Intel page.
The graphic chip is Intel one and therefore the driver from Intel page should work.
In some cases you would be not able to install the driver executing the setup.exe.
In such case you have to go to the device manger and have to use the advanced installation procedure. Then you could point to the driver package which you have downloaded previously from Intel page.

  • High screen resolution problems

    Hi.
Just bought a Dell XPS lapptop with screen resolution 3200x1800 and windows 8.1. After installing photoshop CS6 the program interface, menus and icons are extremly smal and almost impossible to see. That also happens in Bridge but not in Lightroom. Thankfull for your help.  Best regards/janis lukas

Ideally  For a Image editor you want a high resolution display so you can edit your images at a high resolution near or actual print quality.  And the editor should have a UI that is easy to see and use.  That is what CC 2014 2x UI is all about.   You can can have an OS like Windows scale your display image effectively  run you display at a lower resolution so that things display larger.  Scaling the display to 1/2 resolution is easy for its and even multiplayer 2x A 200DPI display would be like a 100DPI display with 1/4 the number of pixels.  Scaling the display defeats the reason to have a high resolution display.  However it may work well for a Application like the bridge. The the bridge only displays previews and thumbnails.  It is not what you want for an image editor like Photoshop.  You want to be able to use the high resolution for editing.
As I wrote Windows can scale the system display for application to lower resolutions.   Application have that option.  Adobe application do not the have windows scale the display so their Applications can take advantage of all the pixels and resolution the display has to offer.  However Only Photoshop has a option to scale its UI 2x.
It is possible to have Windows scale the display for an Adobe Application by making a registry update and adding an external manifest file for applications yo want Windows to scale.
I can show you the difference between  Adobe CC 2x UI and Windows scaling.  CC 2014 2x UI works well on 4K displays that have high resolution.  However it does not work well on a Surface Pro 3  Display that has a 216PPI resolution for the display only has 2160 x 1440 Pixels Scaling the UI 2x effectively make the display look like a 108 PPI display with 1080x720 pixels.  Which doe not meet Photoshop 1024x768 requirement.  Photoshop UI just doesn't fit.
Windows Scaling for the Surface Pro 3 has  4 preset dor scaling the display 150% being the default for the surface pro 3
    Microsoft Preset Display scaling
    100% 2160x1440   216 PPI
    125% 1728x1152   173 PPI
    150% 1440x960    144 PPI SP3 Default setting
    200% 1080x720    108 PPI
The 150% scaling works well for Photoshop UI however it alsi scala Photoshop image window where CC 2014 2C UI does not.  Windows scaling can also be use on other versions of Photoshop and bridge etc. It would be helpful if Photoshop also offered a  1.25x and 1.5x UI.  Here are some screen captures I did on my Surface Pro 3 the shows the difference  between 2x UI and Display scaling.   CC 2014  Adobe scaling vs Windows scaling.

  • Qosmio G20: How to get higher screen resolution on external 22" monitor

I have a Qosmio G20 and today I bought a Samsung 226BW external screen. The Samsung has a max/optimal resolution of 1680x1050px. The Toshiba manual sais the laptop supports an external screen resolution up to 2048x1536 ...
I have now tried all kinds of settings, but the highest resolution I get on the external monitor is 1440x900 (- same as the laptop).
1440x900 on the 22" screen is not enough for serious picture editing; it simply looks unsharp.
What am I doing wrong? I deeply appreciate any answers/feedback; because if 1440x900 is all I can get, I have to take the xternal monitor back to the store ...
if anyone is so kind !?
    Espen.

    Hi
The available screen resolution depends on the graphic driver. You cannot choose the favorite resolution of 1680x1050 because the graphic card driver doesnt support it.
Maybe a graphic driver update could helps.
By the way; a inf file should be supplied by the monitor manufacture. You can install such file making right click and choosing install.

  • Management Console is tiny at high screen resolutions

Is there any solution to the problem of the Microsoft Management Console apparently being sized for a 640x480 computer monitor? Everything is so ridiculously small at 1920x1080, with what looks like 9-point text boxes.
Also, why are MMC configuration windows like the "New Object" window stuck at about 400 pixels wide, and you have to scroll the text boxes to see a long user profile path, yet the window itself is tiny compared to the screen resolution?

  • Function button on Satellite L500 causes Blue Screen Of Death

Ok I have an Satellite L500 and I got it back in December 2009. Ever since I first got it, if I ever press the function button the BSOD appears and the computer restarts. I dont particularly use the function button often, but its just in case I press the wrong button and its a nice feeling not to have a laptop-suicide button haunting my keyboard.
Also if I decide to shut down the laptop completely, and turn it back on at a later time, its likely that it will appear then as well. I have no clue as to why this is but any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks a lot

  • Satellite A60: higher screen resolution as 1024x786?

    Hey,
I was wondering if its possible to get a higher resolution for my laptopscreen.
Now it's 1024x786. Higher modes aren't displayed in the configuration menu. I can set the resolution for an external monitor higher though.
    Thx

    Hi
It is probably technical restriction. If you want to test higher resolution on the laptop LCD enable other resolutions. You can do it on this way:
Control Panel > Display > Settings tab > Advanced > Adapter tab > List all Modes
Try there to change the resolution and you will se how it works.

  • Higher Screen Resolutions on MBP

I dont post many questions here on the forum... But heres my rant of the day.
I have been a mac user for only a short while... making my first hardware purchase a few months ago (iMac 20").
After using the iMac for a while i realized that I wanted to upgrade my 3 year old Dell Inspiron 8600. But there lies the problem. The hardware specs on the new MBP's are outstanding except one thing, display resolution.
On my Dell I purchased the WUXGA screen that runs 1920x1200 natively on a 15.4" screen. I dont understand why apple decides to put these cheaper/lower resolution panels into there hardware?
Wouldnt it make since if you are going to release a top of the line machine you would follow suit with the LCD panels?
Just my two cents, please set me straight if I have crossed a line posting this here at an apple forum.
    Adam

No, you're not out of line. And I think a fair number of people agree with you.
However, I think Apple's position is that any display/resolution combination that results in a pixel density much more than about 100-120 dpi simply makes things appear too small for most people and reduces visual consistency and usability. I happen to agree with them.
Sure, you can fiddle with font sizes and other settings in an attempt to offset the high pixel density, but most graphics used by the OS and on web sites don't scale well (in Windows and Mac OS X). As a result, you can get normal-sized text but everything else appears tiny. It looks odd and it's harder to use.
What we need is resolution independent scaling of the entire UI, and this needs to happen in the OS, in applications, and in web content. This would allow you to resize everything in the interface, making it as large or as small as you want regardless of the actual pixel density of your hardware. Of course, higher density displays provide sharper visuals, so manufacturers would naturally start increasing resolutions, even beyond today's densities, limited only by cost and GPU performance.
The good news is that Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger already has the underpinnings in place for this resolution independent UI, and 10.5 Leopard is reportedly going to bring it out as a mainstream feature. But we'll still need to wait for the application developers and web developers to catch up, which will probably take a while.
So Apple's current use of 100-120 dpi displays isn't so much a question of "cheap hardware" but rather one of usability. I think Apple is biding their time until all the technology pieces are in place so this can be done right rather than the haphazard, incomplete approach currently taken by the Windows community.

  • Satellite L500 - blank blue screen after login to Win 7

    Hi
I have this laptop and i can start up the laptop and it loads fine to the login page i then can login but when the screens opens after login it appears as a blank blue screen with the document folder open i have no background picture and no startup menu nothing else except the document folder.
From there i can access my files etc and anything else internet etc everything but i dont know how to get the screen back to normal.
If i go on background display i can see the image that should be on the background and change it but nothing happens on the full screen.
I have no restore point as yet as new laptop for xmas, i do have backup discs but think its just something to do with the display.
If go into files and folders it shows me the icons on the desktop but all i see is this blank screen.
Any ideas please, if not would restore files work or full back up disc
Thanks very much for any help

    Hi
    Check this:
Click right on the desktop and choose Personalize.
There you should check the area: Basis design and design with high contrast
    Choose Windows 7 basic.
    Then reboot the unit.
Usually this should help to get the Windows 7 common design and desktop settings.
But if this will not help then you could use an fast solution which would be a usage of the recovery disk of HDD recovery option.
This would format the HDD and would reinstall everything again

  • Satellite Pro A200 - external screen resolution

    Hi,
Does integrated graphic card Intel GMA X3100 in my satellite pro A200 notebook can support 1920x1200 resolution?

Yes, I checked it but there's no supported resolution listed :| and I'll check the manual again... Nope! nothing about graphic card at all! No resolutions... nothing.
    Maybe I'm missing something?!?

  • How to get reasonable font size with higher screen resolution

I'm using my new Mac Mini as living room PC with 42" plasma screen and tv itself seems to support quite well the 'better' resolutions like 1024x768. Unfortunately then text is too small to read from sofa (which is about 3 meters away from tv). I have switched back to 800x600 resolution where font sizes are almost ok but many programs complaint about the resolution (e.g. Google Earth) and need to change the resolution back and worth to get some OK button pressed which is glumsy.
I have also found pretty good Tinkertool to finetune font sizes but it does not affect all font sizes like I want. So question is there any better solution how I could find theme that suites better for living room purpose (have not find any theme possibilities for MacOSX). In Linux I could finetune X fontserver, in WIndows I could fine tune the theme used to have bigger fonts, how do I do it in this cool mac?

I hear you! I would also like to see an answer for this. I am running Leopard on a Mac Mini on my 50 inch display in the living room. I have set the resolution to 1080p so that the video and photos are as sharp as possible. (man the videos look great)...
But, I have a very hard time reading the menu bar, as well as safari and mail from this machine. I realize that there are ways to increase the font sizes, but:
    1) when I restart safari, I have to change the settings each time
    2) when I restart mail, I have have to change the setting each time
    3) I cannot figure out a way to make the menu bar larger
I really don't want to bring the mac mini down to a resolution like 800X600 - I think it would look horrible on the large screen.
What is a big screen lover to do?
Any help would be most appreciated...
    Cheers!

  • High Screen resolution from remote computer?

Is there any way to dictate what resolution you want the remote computer to be when you display it on your own computer?
It seems the biggest I can get the remote computer to show up on my computer is the highest resolution it shows inside the DISPLAYS preferences on the remote machine ...?

Its seems odd. I have my G5 as a headless machine ans the video card can support 2 30" Cinema Displays, but all I get for resolution choices is 1024x768 max. If I plug one of my Cinema displays into the G5 then I can increase the resolution, unplug it, and have the higher resolutions available in my now headless G5. Of course, if I reboot it, I am back to 1024x768.
    Bummer.
