Satellite L500-22R - ATI driver upgrade

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite L500-22R with a ATI Mobiliti Radeon HD 5145.
I want to install new drivers for my card, but Toshiba doesnt upgrade the driver since 2009 (version 8.653.0.0) and the oficial driver version for ATI is 13.1. The problem is that i can install from AMD page because there is a compatibility problem with hardware.
Someone can help me? I want to upgrade my driver version and i cant understand this situation.

> I want to upgrade my driver version and i cant understand this situation.
Situation is as follow: display driver for mobile machines is supported by manufacturer and in most cases on GPU manufacturer download sites you will find info to contact notebook manufacturers.
Display drivers for notebooks are adapted by notebook manufacturers to avoid overheating or hardware damage. Why? Due to specific design notebooks have special designed cooling system that works perfectly on certain hardware platform. Using new display driver graphic card will be forced to give more performance. More performance means more heat and thee is the problem. Due to this notebook manufacturers must test display drivers and be sure they will work well and dont force GPU to increase notebooks temperature to the critical level.
You can try to install non-Toshiba driver but it is on your own risk. I can imagine it will work OK but maybe cooling fan will run often than before trying to reduce GPU temperature.

  • Satellite L500-1KK - Which driver to use?

    Hi All!
I have noticed that Intel have released new drivers for their 4500MHD graphic card, however, the one's released on Toshiba's site for my Satellite L500-1KK are older and are never updated as frequently as those released on Intel's site, my questions are:
    1. Is it safe to use the new drivers from Intel for their chipset or should I stick to the ones released by Toshiba?
    2. What possible differences are there between these Intel drivers and Toshiba's? ?:|
    Thanks all!

    Hi,
You see, dude, If everything works fine don't touch the system with any driver update. I still run my laptop with the old drivers and satisfied.
    > 1. Is it safe to use the new drivers from Intel for their chipset or should I stick to the ones released by Toshiba?
Yes, you can use intel chipset drivers and shouldn't be worry :)
    > What possible differences are there between these Intel drivers and Toshiba's??
As I know, they are pretesed by Toshiba.

  • Satellite L500 - After Windows 7 upgrade games not run in fullscreen mode

    Hello..
I just got my windows 7 upgrade in the mail and I installed it and everything is fine..
But if I start a game which is not in the same screen resulution as the computer it is a square in the middle of the screen and it is two big black lines down on each side. It does not put the game in full screen. The games in the same resulution works fine.
Some games cannot be put to the resulution this computer have.
How can I make then come in fullscreen?
    thank you

I tryed to update the driver to no affect....
The games are in a fullscreen mode but with black lines on the side it does not understand its a widescreen =/ it worked well on vista....
the known games that have this issue is:
    Age of Empires
    Saint Rows 2
    Emergency/911 first responders 3 and 4
    GTA san andreas
    The sims 2

  • Satellite Pro L670-14p upgraded to Windows 8 - ATI Driver out of date

    Hi,
Recently installed Windows 8 as part of a dual boot system on my laptop. I went to try to play one of the games I usually play under Windows 7 to find it would not even attempt to start as the graphics drivers were out of date... I've searched the Toshiba website for compatible drivers, only to find the newer laptops supported... I've looked around the internet and there is no mention of Windows 8 compatible drivers for the L670-14p.
I know Toshiba have got to make their money, but is it really feasible for them to expect the average punter to by a new laptop everytime a new OS comes out?
As I dual boot, its not really that big an issue, since I can go back to 7, but what about your less techincally minded customers, that have installed Windows 8 on fully capable computers, but the woeful lack of driver updates has now made that process a nightmare for them?
I have always bought Toshiba, since I use my laptop for both business and pleasure... my old Tosh, an Equium is still going strong, no issues at all... but I'm afraid the indifference of Toshiba towards driver updates is staggering, especially for modern machines. The inability and shortsightedness to not fully support a major new OS on release such as Win 8 is quiet frankly pathetic....
I'm sure other laptop manufacturers that actually update their drivers will be thankful for Toshiba's business

    > I know Toshiba have got to make their money, but is it really feasible for them to expect the average punter to by a new laptop everytime a new OS comes out?
In the past Toshiba has offered very good support for different operating systems. I understand you very well but problem is that with Win8 many things are new and Microsoft is player that defines new rules.
In my opinion Toshiba and any other notebook manufacturers offer just hardware package and take care that everything works stabile and user friendly.
Notebook manufacturers offer numerous new notebook models every year and it is not possible that they will go back and offer full support for old models.
I dont know how it works exactly but I dont think Toshiba make this ATI driver. This driver is from hardware manufacturer. What Toshiba do is testing, make some corrections or limitations and offer it for the customers. Thats all.
I have checked which GPU is inside in your notebook. It is ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 and this card was used on older models. Unfortunately none of them is supported for Win8.
I know it is maybe stupid situation now but we had the same problem in the past when Microsoft has offered Vista and later Win7. Just specific models were supported.
At the end I must say that Im pretty sure that you will remove Win8 from the system pretty soon when you see how it works.

    Hi!
You can get all drivers on the Toshiba website for your notebook. I have checked this and the website show a new driver for your graphic card.
    Check this:

If you search for Satellite L500 and PSLJ3E you will find the right one. ;)

  • Satellite L500-20X - WLAN switch doesn't work after Windows 8 Upgrade

    Hello,
I have updatet my Toshiba Satellite L500-20X to Windows 8.
Unfortunately, since this update my WLAN Switch no longer works. All function keys work to F7, only F8 (WLAN switch) and F9 (touchpad) no longer work.
    What can I do?
    Thanks in advance.
    Kind regards
    Klaus

Satellite L500 is not Win 8 upgrade supported so I think the problem is a missing driver or software
As far as I know in order to use the FN buttons the Value Added Package for Win 8 needs to be installed.
Check other driver area for Toshiba notebook series supporting the Win 8.
Maybe you could use the VAP released for other series.

  • Memory Issues with D: Drive on my Satellite L500

This question is regarding my Satellite L500!
Right so my D drive has 148GB of memory and currently has just over 3GB left. I keep getting told to clear it down but when looking through the files there is 7GB taken by "HDD Recovery" and somewhere around 80GB taken up by "Windows Image Backup". This obviously doesnt come to more than 87GB however i cant find anymore files that are taking up space.
My question is why has it become so full? I do a backup every sunday, and have had the laptop less than a year.
Any help would be appriciated, if you need anymore info let me know and i'll tell you ^^
    Thanks guys,
    George

    > My question is why has it become so full? I do a backup every sunday, and have had the laptop less than a year
You said you backup the data every Sunday and the 80GB are used by "Windows Image Backup
This means that the backups which you create every Sunday takes the space on the HDD...
By the way: HDD Recovery is Toshiba HDD image which allows you to recover the notebook without the usage of recovery disk. But I still recommend creating the recovery disk using the preinstalled tool called Toshiba recovery disk creator.
This is important in case something would go wrong with HDD!

  • Satellite L500-12t: FN buttons issue after Win7 64bit upgrade

    Hi
    i have L500-12T and i upgrade to WIN 7 64 bit.
After the upgrade the FN key not working and i can't turn on the wireless card .
So i can't surf with the wireless.
I download all the driver that i found on the site of toshiba and it's still not working.
    What i can do ?
    *thanks*

    Hei alior3,
I think you didnt install or update the Toshiba tools I agree with MasterG.
It has nothing to do with the device drivers (e. g. WLAN card) because you need Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. Both tools are necessary for using FN key combinations.
    Everything you can download here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
If you have more questions check also the forum content. You will find many threads about FN keys and how to solve such problems. :)

  • Satellite L500-1WH is upgrade to i5 processor possible?

    Hello,
is possible to upgrade the i3 processor in the Satellite L500-1WH to i5 processor?
I have an i5 processor from a laptop HP and i want to upgrade the Toshiba, if it is possible.
    Thanks

    Hi
Such similar questions have been posted in the past. If you would use the forums advanced search option, you will get lot of threads about this theme.
First of all you have to know that notebook manufacturers (no matter what manufacturer) dont support CPU upgrades officially.
In case you would like to upgrade the CPU, you can do it at your own risk.
Secondly you should check the chipset which is used in the notebook.
I guess this unit supports an Intel HM55 chipset.
I found info about CPUs which are supported by HM55 chipset (click on compatible products)
    http://ark.intel.com/products/43183/Intel-BD82HM55-PCH
But even if you would choose one of the mentioned and supported CPUs, the BIOS might not support it because the BIOS was designed and modified for the L500 and not tested with other hardware parts.

  • ATI GPU Driver Upgrade for BOINC

I'm runing BOINC Manager 7.0.25 on my iMac (see specs below).
BOINC Manager gives me this "notice":
"ATI GPU: Upgrade to the latest driver to process tasks using your computer's GPU"
System Profiler says that I have a "ATI Radeon HD 5750"
How/where do I get the most current (compatible) driver for this GPU?

Apparently, even people with 10.7 are seeing this message too.  (See for example, https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3442464.)
Yes, I'd already read the BOINC Wiki page on GPU computing, but thank you for the link.
I even visited the ATI driver update site for the ATI Radeon HD 5750 but it did not list OSX among the operating systems.

    The Problem:
Blank screen, computer is shutting down from it self, or the Comment from Vista: Driver atikmdag caused a Problem and would restore.
Every time the Computer shuts down from it self, Vista gives me the answer that atikmdag caused the Problem.
Yesterday I've tried to Benchmark the System but at the End of the Program the Display flares and Computer is shutting down.
    My Question:
Is a newer Driver for the HD 2600 in work or has anybody the straight tip for me?

    Hello,
Display Driver is newest version: 8.383.1.1 this version was on the computer as i bought it
I'm running the Display Driver only in Factory Settings
No, I've tried to Test the System with the new version of 3D Mark 06 but at the End of the Test procedure the display flared and computer has crashed.
Problem is also with Medal of Honor or Battlefield 1942. Computer crashed and Vista gives me the comment that atikmdag had caused the Problem
Recovery was succesful but the same Problem with the ATI Driver

  • UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before.  UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D  On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example
cannot read from source file or disk
    7z.dll
    Type application extension
    size 585kb
    date modified 7/14/2009 10.26pm
other read / copy errors include PREINST6.SWM, BOOT_32, BOOTPRIORITY, CHECKMAXPTSIZE, CHGBOOT, CPU, CPUCHECK, CREATEPARTITION, CTRLDRVINFO, DISKWIPE, DMI, DPINST32, EBLIB.DLL, ERRORDIALOG, EW3BOOTSEQ, FWLINK, FWLINK.SYS, GETHDDINFO, GETKEYSTATE, IMAGEX, INFILED, INITRECAREA, KRAIADAPI.DLL ..... at which point I decided to 'skip all' :-/
Any explanations as to what's going on and how I might be able to fix it would be very much appreciated! :-)  Thank you!
I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba.  Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
    When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
    To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
    Click ‘repair your computer’
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message.  I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy.  On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop.  I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

    Satellite L655-S5096
    Downloads here.
the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

  • Satellite L500 and issues with wireless connection

    Hello people
Ill just throw my problem out there.
First of all my details and info which may help you help me!
Satellite L500 running windows 7 (note: same issues when Vista was installed)
Latest wireless drivers as well as latest drivers for everything else.
My wireless router is a billion voip enabled router 7000 series its quite a good one for when I got it about 2 yrs ago and works fine.
Basically the problem is the wireless on my Satellite L500 keeps dropping out. Im no more than 20m away at most, right now Im 10m away with 1 wall in the way. I tried to get to a website and it says connection dropped out or unable to find host.
However the other laptops in the same room same spot at the same time has no issues at all. Never has.
As soon as I go into the same room as my router it works again. Sometimes works if I just stand on the opposite wall.
So basically Im thinking my wireless card in my laptop is either faulty or just no good?
Can u replace the wireless card with a different one? Maybe the Toshiba ones are just no good? Ive read so many problems with these wireless cards in Toshibas...
Anyone have any ideas? Have I missed any info u need? Ill repost again in a day or so with the types of wireless devices in each laptop.

    Hi
At the moment I doubt that your WLAN card is faulty. Before you exchange it you should also update your BIOS and not only the WLAN card driver. Both updates you should download from the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
I had a similar issue with my Toshiba notebook and WLAN connection. The problem was the WLAN power saving mode in Windows Power Management. There you can also choose a power saving mode for the WLAN card. Disable it and choose Maximum Performance.

  • Satellite L500-13e connected to TV with HDMI cable - no sound on TV

Hi! Sorry my English is bad.
I have a problem, i tried to connect my notebook with TV through HDMI, but
sound playing on notebook rather than TV ...
In Realtek HD Manager i didn't find "HDMI Output options"
Please, suggest what should I do?

The whole story is a little bit strange now.
As far as I know Satellite L500-13E is delivered with preinstalled Vista Home Premium and all drivers must be preinstalled.
I don't understand how you can suddenly have this yellow question mark in device manager.
What have you done with your notebook?
Anyway, at first try to remove sound device from device manager and restart your notebook. If the yellow question mark is still there install Vista sound driver. You can find it on Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com
