Satellite L500 - Changelog in BIOS ver. 2.00?

Hi,
Does anyone know where I could find the BIOS change logs .. I am interested to know what changes were implemented in BIOS version 2.00 for the satellite L500 series?
A link or any info would be much appreciated ..
Thanks

Hey,
Can you see a BIOS changelog file on the Toshiba page where you can download the BIOS update?
No? Then the case is clear: There is no BIOS changelog file available.
Dont understand me wrong but thats fact
And let me give you a word of advice: Everything ok with your notebook? No problems at all? Then forget the BIOS update.
Never touch a running system! ;)

  • Satellite L500 - cannot flash BIOS

    Hi all,
Looking for some help here - I have a Satellite L500 series and recently the battery has stopped charging - went from 3 hours to 0% - not charging overnight. Have tried altering the eco settings, holding down the power button for 40 seconds and even a new Power Supply unit (we have these at my work), but nothing seems to work. The only thing I can do without purchasing a new battery is to flash the BIOS.
Problem: I am getting an error saying that the BIOS cannot be flashed because it has less than 10% power. Any idea for a work-around?
I'm more inclined to purchase a new laptop than to spend any money repairing this one (CD drive and a USB port have also stopped working) but want to try everything to keep the ol' faithful going.
    Any hints or tips?
    Thanks,
    Bajar

To flash the BIOS using win-based version, the battery needs to be charged.
If its not charged, the BIOS update process would not start up.
But why you want to update the BIOS?
BIOS update does not solve the problems with CD/DVD drive or USB ports.

  • Satellite L500-1GK - Wrong BIOS installed

    help me every friend's
My problem I install wrong BIOS to my laptop. The laptop work good but the USB & bluetooth not work. I can't make my all work
    Thankes to care all friend's

There are no older BIOS versions which can be downloaded.
There is just newest BIOS version
If you need older BIOS then you have o contact the ASP in your country for this.
But if BIOS update would fail, then you would not be able to power up the unit
So it does not look like BIOS update has failed
Go to BIOS settings (F2 while powering the notebook) and set it to default pressing F9.
    Then save the changes!
Toshiba preinstalled image contains an Toshiba HWSetup. There you can find the boot options as well check if USB appears there

  • Satellite L500 - Is BIOS version 1.9 compatible?

    Heyas,
I've noticed that a new BIOS version (v 1.90) for Satellite L500 Notebooks. My model - PSLS3A-01301D does not appear in the list of L500 models on the MyToshiba website, and I am very wary of installing the update incase it turns my laptop into a very expensive paperweight. Could anyone give me an idea if this new BIOS update is safe for my model?
    Thanks in advance,
    Evan

    heya,
Thanks for the reply; I have to admit I'm suprised you found my laptop model on the australian website. When I did a search with both google and of the aussie site myself returned no results; that is to say, google did (even returned this thread) but none on [http://www.mytoshiba.com.au].
As for the need for the bios update; well yes I admit that I probably don't need it at this moment. I can be a little obsessive about having latest drivers and (generally) updates for my machine, it always seems to make it run a little smoother, although that could be my own bias.
It is kinda frustrating not to find be able to find my model anywhere on toshiba's site, especially when you seem to have been able to find it so easily.
    thanks,
    Evan

  • UPDATE : Toshiba Recovery Wizard 'cannot read from source file or disk' error (satellite L500)

UPDATE 2: Phoned Toshiba tech support again, guided by techie to begin the recovery again. Just before phoning I was able to go into recovery options and view the drive setup and all the files that couldn't be read are on the CD so I've no idea why the error kept occuring, and neither did the techie. Fingers crossed it works this time but I'm not overly hopefully given that we've just done exactly the same as I did before.  UPDATE 1: I got into the BIOS and reset everything back to defaults and yay, my toshiba recovery wizard now starts! :-D  On the down side, when trying to do a factory default software / out of the box recovery I continually get error messages with regards to copying the files, for example
cannot read from source file or disk
    7z.dll
    Type application extension
    size 585kb
    date modified 7/14/2009 10.26pm
other read / copy errors include PREINST6.SWM, BOOT_32, BOOTPRIORITY, CHECKMAXPTSIZE, CHGBOOT, CPU, CPUCHECK, CREATEPARTITION, CTRLDRVINFO, DISKWIPE, DMI, DPINST32, EBLIB.DLL, ERRORDIALOG, EW3BOOTSEQ, FWLINK, FWLINK.SYS, GETHDDINFO, GETKEYSTATE, IMAGEX, INFILED, INITRECAREA, KRAIADAPI.DLL ..... at which point I decided to 'skip all' :-/
Any explanations as to what's going on and how I might be able to fix it would be very much appreciated! :-)  Thank you!
I have a two and half year old satellite L500 with an Intel i-3 and 4 gigs of RAM, on which I was running Windows 7.
Admittedly it’s had rather a hard life (I ran some very demanding CAD / graphics software on it) but it had always performed well until just recently, when after suffering several BSOD (which had never happened before), the hard drive failed.
I partitioned and formatted a brand new hard drive (which is perfectly fine and functions normally when hooked up to another laptop with a SATA to USB cable) and obtained system recovery discs from Toshiba.  Unfortunately, when I try and run the first disc, windows starts to load files but then generates an error screen with the message Error F3-F100-0003 and a request to turn the computer off.
    When I use the windows Memory Diagnostic to get into the Windows Boot Manager Screen I get the following;
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware / software change might be the case.
    To fix the problem
Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
Choose your language settings and click ‘next’
    Click ‘repair your computer’
    File: \boot\memtest.exe
    Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.
I can also use F8 on startup to get into the advanced boot options but selecting any of them simply results in the F3-F100-0003 error message.  I’ve run a memory test using the UBCD, which tells me the memory is fine, and tried another hard drive (which also works perfectly well in another laptop) but no joy.  On phoning Toshiba support the techie said my hard drive had failed, but as I say, both hard drives are perfectly fine / usable when hooked up to another laptop.  I’m now completely stuck as to what the problem is and how I might resolve it – any advice / suggestions would be most gratefully received! Thank you in advance :-)

    Satellite L655-S5096
    Downloads here.
the second disc gives me the the "cannot read from source file or disk PREINST8.SWM"
My best guess is that the disc is not readable. Try copying it to another. Sometimes that works.
Otherwise, order new discs from Toshiba.

  • Satellite L500 and issues with wireless connection

    Hello people
Ill just throw my problem out there.
First of all my details and info which may help you help me!
Satellite L500 running windows 7 (note: same issues when Vista was installed)
Latest wireless drivers as well as latest drivers for everything else.
My wireless router is a billion voip enabled router 7000 series its quite a good one for when I got it about 2 yrs ago and works fine.
Basically the problem is the wireless on my Satellite L500 keeps dropping out. Im no more than 20m away at most, right now Im 10m away with 1 wall in the way. I tried to get to a website and it says connection dropped out or unable to find host.
However the other laptops in the same room same spot at the same time has no issues at all. Never has.
As soon as I go into the same room as my router it works again. Sometimes works if I just stand on the opposite wall.
So basically Im thinking my wireless card in my laptop is either faulty or just no good?
Can u replace the wireless card with a different one? Maybe the Toshiba ones are just no good? Ive read so many problems with these wireless cards in Toshibas...
Anyone have any ideas? Have I missed any info u need? Ill repost again in a day or so with the types of wireless devices in each laptop.

    Hi
At the moment I doubt that your WLAN card is faulty. Before you exchange it you should also update your BIOS and not only the WLAN card driver. Both updates you should download from the Toshiba website:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
I had a similar issue with my Toshiba notebook and WLAN connection. The problem was the WLAN power saving mode in Windows Power Management. There you can also choose a power saving mode for the WLAN card. Disable it and choose Maximum Performance.

  • Satellite L500-21T - Stop error code when installing Windows 7

    Hello
I bought a notebook Satellite L500-21T from saudi arabia.
I lost the hd recovery during trying fix windows 7 installation. If I try to install windows 7 I get stop code 0x0000009c error. If I turn sata to compitibality from AHCI Windows xp sp2 not sp3 installed but most drivers like display and wlan not installed. Trying to update BIOS give that is not suitable for that the phoenix version of bios 1.5
I changed HD and RAM but the same problem. It may the BIOS?
    plz help me

    Hi buddy,
Do you install Windows 7 from Toshiba recovery disk or normal Microsoft disk?
Usually if you install Windows 7 from recovery disk, everything should work well because its pretested image from Toshiba and you get back out of box settings (factory settings).
If not it seems to be a hardware malfunction
By the way: Try to load the default settings in BIOS. You can do this if you press F9 key in BIOS.

  • Wireless is not working on Satellite L500

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 -1XZ and my wireless stop working. No front led light. BIOS settings of Wireless communication is on. In Device manager it appears installed correctly with no errors.
I change Windows 7 Ultimate and Professional and the same thing is happening. Yesterday I used the wireless on Win7 Ultimate and now it stopped from working.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

*Quite a few utilities or cards have a choice and they disable this WZC.*
    *Try this:*
*click on start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, services, You will see Wireless Zero Configuration.*
*You can highlight and start this if this is stopped. This should be set to automatic as well.*
    *Hope this helps.*
Did you check using the connectivity Doctor. If you cannot with Toshiba's tools and tried to config through windows wireless network config tool and is saying that it cannot do it and is asking the Wireless Zero Configuration to be reset or enabled then either you have to enable it. manually the WZC or change the registry to do it automatically whenever you boot it.

  • Satellite L500-1WH is upgrade to i5 processor possible?

    Hello,
is possible to upgrade the i3 processor in the Satellite L500-1WH to i5 processor?
I have an i5 processor from a laptop HP and i want to upgrade the Toshiba, if it is possible.
    Thanks

    Hi
Such similar questions have been posted in the past. If you would use the forums advanced search option, you will get lot of threads about this theme.
First of all you have to know that notebook manufacturers (no matter what manufacturer) dont support CPU upgrades officially.
In case you would like to upgrade the CPU, you can do it at your own risk.
Secondly you should check the chipset which is used in the notebook.
I guess this unit supports an Intel HM55 chipset.
I found info about CPUs which are supported by HM55 chipset (click on compatible products)
    http://ark.intel.com/products/43183/Intel-BD82HM55-PCH
But even if you would choose one of the mentioned and supported CPUs, the BIOS might not support it because the BIOS was designed and modified for the L500 and not tested with other hardware parts.

  • Crash on Startup Satellite L500-128

    Hi
Sometimes when I start up my Satellite L500 I experience a blue screen which says that the laptop is automatically restarting to prevent damage to the hardware.
It happens fast so I cannot read all of the text of the message. After the auto reboot the startup is normal.
Problem solver from Windows gives me a hint with regard to these files.
    060210-18657-01.dmp
    sysdata.xml
    WERInternalMetadata.xml
Does this have anything to do with a bios update?
    Regards,
    JW

    Hello
Usually you can also check the BSOD code in Windows event viewer but disable also the automatic restart on system failure.
If you know the exact BSOD code you can search in the Internet and Microsoft Knowledge Base for detailed explanation.
Usually such bluescreens mean there is a driver or hardware problem.
Also the Toshiba recovery disk can help you to identify the exact problem.

  • Satellite L500 won't load. Windows.stops at x:\windows\system32\drvload

    Satellite L500-12T
I've checked other threads for this issue but they have the F8 option during start up, this laptop doesnt have that option.
After turning on the laptop its either press F2 for Setup or F12 to select boot options. I try to load my Windows CD but it doesnt load/read the disk. I also dont know what to troubleshoot on BIOS.
It recognizes all the basic hardware. HDD and CD drive. Ive tried to remove the battery and mouse, then just attach the adapter but I sometimes get "program cannot start press ok to turn off the computer".
Can anyone help me? What are my options to have this fixed / recovered? I cant rely on the phone tech support since the unit is out of warranty.
Any replies would be most welcome. Thanks :)

    Hello
Your story is pretty confusing. It is full of different information but we dont know which operating system do you use and has your notebook factory settings or not.
Is there some reason why your notebook acts so strange? Have you done anything that can be responsible for this? Can you start OS or not.
    >... sometimes get "program cannot start press ok to turn off the computer".
How to understand sometimes? Which program? What happen when you press power button?
Sorry but I dont know how to understand all this and start with discussion.
Missing F8 option is also very confusing.
Try please to set BIOS to default settings and try to start OS again.

  • Satellite L500-1V1 resets WLan router every 10 min

    Hello.
I bought a new Toshiba Laptop (Satellite L500-1V1) for a few weeks ago, and lately I have had these randomly disconnects from the internet. I cant really remember if I had this issue the first days since I mostly did offline stuff, but I know they came very early while surfing. Im using a wireless connection.
Some strange stuff is that my PC seems to reset the router now and then. At home, Im the only one using internet, but when I am at friends, their internet also seems to go away. So yes, my PC is causing every Router it connects to restart itself randomly every 5min-1hour. Ill just say it one more time, my PC messes up other routers as well, and not just mine.
Just in case, Ill add some more info about the symptom. I sometimes play World of Warcraft, and its when I do so, this issue is most annoying. The enemies around the world will suddenly freeze in place doing nothing, my player character will stop attacking and no spells or abilities works. However, I can still run around, so I dont really get disconnected at first. After 10 seconds, I will either get disconnected, or I will get a very high latency/MS.
I had no issues about this with my previous PC, but as any other, my old PC decided to randomly disconnect from the power cable. To be honest, I dont know whats worst.. Disconnect from the power or disconnect from internet. But both things blows, thats for sure.
Does anyone have any clue what could be the issue?? I have tried update the WLAN Driver, I have tried set my router on a different channel (I dunno if I can set my PC wireless channel on another thing, but if thats so, its not tested yet), and I have also tried a cable connection just to find out exactly whats going on. The cable connection was stable for 6 hours, while the wireless can barely last a half. I have scanned my PC for virus using AVIRA, but nothing was found.
I would really love to fix this without turning in my PC for weeks to repair, thats not the purpose of this purchade at all. Any suggestions?

Funny enough I am trawling the forums and tech support with almost the same issue,
? my folks. How wrong could I have got it.
All installed, updated bios, drivers. Ran eset nod32, unhackme and cleaned cahce etc. Still same issue even after reinstall, tested on 3 different routers (mine, parents and a friends).
The wifi connects fine, slow log on to internet and after 5-10 mins loses interent connection but network is showing live. tested Laptop on hardwire cat5e and works perfectly. My personal macbook and desktop work fine on mine and parents router. My router has historically had no issue with 5 other pcs on wifi.
Toshiba have an issue (imo) with this wifi, windows 7 x64 and drivers. IT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH (STILL WITING AFTER 40 min on their support with no answer).
If this isn;t resolved tonight it's going back for a refundSpent to many man hours on this. Shoddy kit.
Personally do not buy this laptop THERE IS AN ISSUE and Toshiba are not addressing it.
If anyone can help please do.
By using the troubleshooter the issue is resolved in a minute, however having to do that every 5 minutes is not what this is designed for.
Worst experience with any bitof kit. Shame and utterly dissapointed.

  • Battery is not recognized properly on Satellite L500

    Hi all.
Ive Toshiba Satellite L500 with Windows7. Two days ago a red cross appeared over battery indicator and notice: 30% available, plugged in, not charging. Consider replacing your battery.
And when I plug off AC laptop shuts down. I replaced the battery but the same action when plug out AC the computer shuts down. Run some antivirus programs no results. I installed a battery tester who told me that battery is not installed. Run SCF program not bad files.
Tried with power manager no results.
My battery works well on other similar laptop.
    Pls help !!!

    Hi mate
Are you using the latest BIOS?
    Please check this!
You can access the BIOS pressing F2 at the beginning.
There you will find the BIOS version.
Compare this with the available BIOS on Toshiba page and update it if necessary.
I cannot say for sure that this would solve you problem but its definitely worth a try.

  • HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

    hi there!!
i had a toshiba satellite a300 that unfortunately died... i want to take the hard disk drive from it an put it on my cousin's toshiba satellite l500 laptop...
I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...
    What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...
    thanks in advance..

If you want to rescue the files from the A300 HDD, you have to move it to another place.
But you have to connect these HDD to computer in order to do that.
For this procedure you need the mentioned: 2.5 USB SATA enclosure (google for that to know what Im talking about)
After you have connected the A300 HDD to another computer using the 2.5 USB SATA enclosure, you could move the files to another HDD, USB flash memory or whatever you would use for data saving.
After that you can put the A300 HDD into L500 and could install new system.
    Hope this helps now...

The HDMI output on my Satellite L500 seems to have stopped working in the past few months.
I've tried different cables but it is still not working.
    Any ideas?

When you press FN+F5 key combination while notebook is not connected with HDMI cable, you will see one option (LCD) only. When you connect HDMI cable can you see other additional options like LCD, LCD+HDMI, HDMI and so on?
Please be also sure that right HDMI port on your TV is enabled.
