Satellite L500D - What is that annoying red light on front Panel?

Hello there,
On my L500D I have the normal five system indicator lights on the front panel of the computer base, where they are supposed to be. But then, to the left of these lights there is this annoying red light that is very distracting.
But what is even +more+ annoying that not one, +not one+ owners manuals that I have read makes any mention of it, +not even a hint+. The owners manual mentions the other lights in their diagrams, +but not this one+. :-(
Now, I'm assuming that it is something really simple, and I am publicly displaying just how blind or dumb (or both) i really am. :-) But for the love all things Holy, and before I loose all my hair, can somebody tell me just what that red light is? ?:|
And, while you're at it, maybe you can tell me how to turn it off!! That would be very novel experience at the moment. B-)
Don't get me wrong, I really love my new L500D, my best investment by far, and it goes like the clappers, and I would write a wacky advert jingle about it and broadcast it across the world... if not for that annoying red light. ;-)
Please Help! (i)

Thanks a lot, guys!
I told you I was dumb, or blind. I fixed the problem. The annoying red light is now gone. Woohoo! :D But just for the record, I checked Jeka's link and found it meantioned and shown just as he said. But then I checked my owners manual again, the one on my HDD, and I am afraid that it is not mentioned anywhere, and if by some quirk of fate that it truely is there, then it must be very well hidden. None of the diagrams show it at all. Just my luck... :-(
Anyway. Thanks again, guys, my problem is solved. :p

  • What is the little red light?

What is the little red light next to the ear speaker on the iPhone 5? It's very hard to see unless in a very dark room and it goes off when I lock my phone.

I saw a forum saying that was what it was. I felt that if that was so that it would stay on even when my phone is locked? Also there are multiple reports of people knowing for sure that there is no water contact with their phone and they still see the light.

  • Satellite L500D - What kind of slot is under the battery?

I have found a slot( i think it's memory slot) under battery in my satellite L500D. What kind of slot is that?(It looks like for MicroSD card, but sign says it's WIS slot - I have searched but I haven't found what does it means)
Does it work in my laptop or it's for other models?

    Hi
Memory slots are placed near the batter bay.
But the slots are not placed under the battery.
It would be interesting to see the slot on the picture.
As far as I know the notebook does not support the 3G therefore I dont think that this is a slot for a 3G card.
Of course the notebook supports an Bridge Media slot which handles the SD Card, SDHC Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, MultiMediaCard but this slot is placed on the front of the notebook.

  • What does a red light near front camera signify?

My iPhone shows a tiny red light near its front camera, what does it mean when its on?

The red light is the digital in light, that is how it reads the headphone jack. The reason the sound doesn't work is because a switch to turn the speakers back on is stuck (note that if you boot the computer, you will hear the startup tone).
There are several ways to fix this...
Some have found that putting the headphone plug in and out several times (maybe twisting it a little) will work.
Others have used a toothpick to adjust the switch (I don't advise this because the toothpick may break).
Instead of a toothpick, many have used a paperclip (probably best to use an insulated one). I couldn't get this to work, but I would suggest straightening, folding in half, then twisting the paperclip and moving it around in the port.
You can also use a sewing pen/needle.
I have seen all of these methods online, but they didn't work for me. I took a que from this instrucable and cleaned my jack with a dry q-tip. I then cut off most of the end and turned it around inside the port. This worked, but after I put the headphones back in the same problem came up, I just did the same procedure again and it worked again (even after I plugged the headphones back in and took them out).
PS: I woud suggest putting some q-tips and possibly some scissors in your MacBook bag in case the problem arises on the move.

  • HELP what is this little red light on the front of my phone?

I know about the 3 sensors on the front of the phone on the top near the ear piece, and the one on the bottom on the right keeps showing a red light. It looks like a small red "C" with a little dot in it. When ever the phone becomes active the light comes on, and stays on for about 10 seconds after locking.
I just today affixed a new screen protector (invisible shield) and just now noticed it happening for the first time. I do work in a dimly lit room but never had this happen before.
What does this light mean and how do I stop it?

Could be a sensor. Or light leaking into the sensor from the screen

  • Satellite L500D: What Win7 version should I choose: 32bit or 64bit?

I have just purchased a Toshiba Satellite L500D and upon starting it up it asks in the product recovery menu to choose either Windows 7 32-bit version or Windows 7 64-bit version.
I am really not sure which option I should be selecting.
    Can some please assist??

    Hi
Its your choice which version you choose! ;)
But if you have 4GB or more RAM installed I would suggest choosing the 64bit version. Only this version can handle 4GB or more RAM.
If you dont have 4GB RAM you can choose the 32bit version. Some older applications are require 32bit OS.
Have fun with your new notebook! :)

  • Red tick on front panel of client VI unable to sort problem

Hi I am having a problem with a client\server application. I am running a Periodic I/O server and have created my shared variables. When I create my client VI I am getting a red tick instead of green, can anyone give me some ideas as to what I am doing wrong.

    Hi Spar,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I wondered if you could give a little more details on your application so we can try and work out what is going on. You mentioned about your Red tick on the front panel, could you possibly attach a screenshot of what you are seeing and perhaps attach your project, if it is not too big.
    Many thanks,

  • Lights on front panel of Envy 120 printer disappeared

After a paper jam, the front panel lights stopped lighting.  The error message said that I needed to change the color ink cartridge (which unfortunately was only a couple weeks old).  I changed it but no lights.  I could still print via the computer but was unable to use the "copy" or "scan" feature since I was unable to "touch" the lights on the front panel.  After speaking with HP, they decided it was a hardware issue, and even though I was only 5 months past my warranty, had no solution other than to buy a reconditioned printer from them for more cost than the price online.  However, I noticed when I printed something directly from the computer, the front panel opened, the arm swung out to hold the newly printed paper, and the LIGHTS CAME ON!  So my solution is to keep a piece of paper forever on the "arm" to make sure the front panel stays open--I can then access the "copy" feature because all the lights now work.  I know this is not a GREAT solution, but it is at least allowing me to use up my several cartridges of new ink until I get tired of having a defective printer.

    Hi @SHF710
I would leave the printer on and unplug the power cable, then after a minute, plug it back in. When the printer starts up it should open the display panel on its own. Also, please ensure you have the printer connected directly to a wall outlet and not into a surge protector.
If the issue persists, I suggest using the following link to ensure your printer has the newest firmware; Critical firmware update to improve printer performance.
If the issue remains unresolved still, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if one of these recommended solutions resolves the issue.

  • What can affect the size of a front panel object between versions of Windows?

    Greetings, all!
I have a client that wants to use a piece of LabVIEW code on Windows XP, Vista, and 7.  The application was originally written to run on XP machines, so everything looks OK there.  However, on Vista or 7, certain front panel objects appear larger than they do on the XP machine (in one example, all of the string fields in an array of strings are taller).  Other objects (such as a text label) appear smaller.
The machines in question all appear to have comparable DPI settings, and monitor resolution does not seem to be a factor.  The application uses Application Font in various sizes in the cases of interest.  Can anyone suggest some other things we can check?
    Thanks!

This issue is coming up more and more lately.  Particularly as people move to Win7 machines.  I've seen differences between my home Vista machine and my work XP machine.
It comes down to the system fonts used by the different OS's.  XP's basic font is Tahoma.  Vista uses Segoe.  I believe Win7 is the same as Vista, but I'm not sure.  The fonts appear similar, but one font or the other is slightly larger.  So any features that are based on a font size will change.  This includes the sizing of labels.  Text within local, shared, global variables, and references.  Enough that it can cause wires to move a few pixels on a BD, and objects that are aligned on one system to look slightly misaligned on another.
I think that if you set the fonts you use to a specific font, rather than Application font (which is taken from one of the current Windows font settings, you will avoid the issue.  The other possibility is to define which font is used for the application font within your LabVIEW.ini.  (Or the application's .ini file if it is built into an .exe.)
Do some searching on the forums for application font, system font, dialog font, windows versions.  You'll find quite a few threads where people had different variations of this problem.

  • 8900 - Won't Power on. Red Light blinks only! Please help!

I have a Blackberry 8900 and this thing is driving me crazy!
To start, I woke up one morning and had a white scrreen and an error 502. I wasn't able to fix the issue immediately since I had class. I'm usually more attentive to my phone but I'm in law school. Anway, the next day I went to try to fix my phone, it would not power on at all. I just got the red light flash. When plugging it in to my computer, I got the sound it was connected but the AppLoader, JML_Cmder and DTM would not recognize the device. Frustrated, I put the phone aside again to concentrate on school.
So, I've decided to give this another shot but now it's gotten worse. The phone does nothing unless it's plugged up and it's still just that annoying red light blinking. I keep the phone plugged and remove the battery...still that blinking and the pattern is long pause, blink, short pause, blink, blink, blink repeat. Again, there is NO ACTIVITY when the phone is unplugged. Same thing when I plug it into my computer. The battery does not make a difference and doing a battery pull does not work. My computer does not recognize my device at all (no sounds, no connection, etc). I have tried to let it charge from a wall charger and it did nothing but that blink pattern for 12 hours.
Is there anything else I can do? It's an AT&T phone I purchased and use with T-mobile and both companies are being asses. Any last suggestions before I buckle and just throw the **bleep** thing away.
Again, I have tried the AppLoader through c:\program files\common files\research in motion\app loader, I have tried using the Command Prompt, I have tried JML_Cmder, I have tried the battery pull, I have re-installed both the DTM and the Blackberry USB and Modem drivers...
Anything else I could possibly try? Also, does anyone know what that blink pattern means?
And please don't suggest what I've listed already. Thanks!

Just to make sure you haven't missed a step, when you tried the Loader.exe file, did you try the steps to fix a nuked BlackBerry? The trick here is to remove the battery on the device, open the Loader.exe file, go to the second screen, then plug your phone in without the battery. As soon as your computer recognizes the phone, click next. This should be able to catch the JVM and allow access to reload the OS. Then once you get to the next screen, you can reinsert the battery.
If you have already tried that, then see if you can ensure that the battery is charged in another BlackBerry, or see if you can try another battery.
If none of that works, then let me know as there are still some other things we can come up with.

  • My Curve won't turn on and no sign of flashing red light

    Hi!
I m all new to this blackberry forum thing....anyway i have a blackberry curve and all of a sudden yesterday it just stopped working. when i looked at the phone the screen was all white so i took out the battery and put it back on thinking that it will come back up but it didnt. Then i took the battery out again and plugged it to the USB(without the battery) because ususally it comes back up, but it still didnt. i put the battery again and plugged it to the USB thinking that it needs to charge but still no since of that flashing red light. I took the battery out and put my friends battery (cos he has a curve too) but still it didnt work. I did try holding down the power (red)button still not back on.
I just dont understand whats wrong with it, its not like i dropped it in the water or dropped it on the floor. I didnt do anything to it. It just stopped working.
Im really frustrated right now...I just dont know what to do..i hope someone can help me
    THanks!

I finally got my curve to work.  I just left it on the charger for a while and then it powered up. It seems if its a little low on power and I don't charge it relatively soon it shuts down and won't power up for awhile. I've also updated the software and cleaned out the junk files. It seems to be working fine now, go figure.

  • Satellite L500D first two indicators are OFF

Toshiba Satellite L500D turns on the first two light nothing there, other three light are on.
    Could it be hard drive?
It was going Okay I turn it off, went to turn it on and it turns on plug in power cord that is green and the amber light is on as well but the first two lights nothing at all
fan is going DVD is working as well

What two indicators do you mean exactly?
    From left the indicators are:
DC IN, Power, Battery, HDD/ODD/eSATA, Bridge Media (SD card)
    - The Bridge Media (SD card) indicator glows green if there is an access to SD card
    - The HDD/ODD/eSATA indicator glows green whenever he computer is accessing the built in HDD or other drives. It glows amber when the ODD is loading a CD or DVD disk.
    - The battery indicator shows the conditions of the battery charge
    - The Power indicator normally glows green when the computer is turned ON. If it goes to sleep mode, this LED flashes amber
    - DC IN indicator glows green when power in being correctly supplied to notebook from AC adaptor. If output voltage is abnormal the indicator would be OFF

  • Red light at startup?

I've been busy setting up a refurb MacPro for over a week, between work and other commitments.  I'm also new to the MP and this morning on startup I noticed something new.  Well, new to me at least.  I'm using the CyberPower 1500 Pure Sine Wave UPS and when I left work Saturday I shut it off, as I have done occasionally in the past.  Not sure if this might be a contributing factor in what happened when I started up this morning.  I turned on the UPS and then the MacPro within a few seconds.  As I did this I noticed a flash of disturbingly bright red light which seemed to be emitting from inside the case and just above the power switch.  Since I first booted up the MP it has been performing flawlessly, but this morning it took forever to boot and once it did I had to shut it down with the power switch.  Tried again and the same thing happened, except that the red light was no longer visible.  The same procedure again and eventually it did start up, but very sluggish.  After two more tries I was finally able to shut it down properly.  I thought that perhaps the NVRAM had been comrpomised, but didn't want to persue that yet.  Again another 'proper' shut down and reboot.  Eventually the MP was again performing as expected, but I have no idea what might have caused this to happen. I then ran disc verification and that showed no problem.  Permissions showed three Library files that were problematic, so I ran a repair.  All seems well now, but I am concerned about what might have caused this.  I have two questions.
    1.  What does the red light at startup indicate exactly?  Obviously it can't be good, but at this point I'm at a loss.
    2.  Is it possible that I started the MP too quickly afetr turning on the CyberPower UPS?
Any replies would be much appreciated.

When you moved in January, how long was the Mac not connected to AC power? You could have a weak PRAM memory battery. Have you tried zapping PRAM? See Mac PRAM, NVRAM, CUDA/PMU & Battery Tutorial
