Satellite L550-11k - HDMI + VGA at the same time?

Hi there,
I have Satellite L550-11k laptop, and i was wondering if i can have external monitor working hooked up on VGA port and HDMI monitor working ( or just audio from hdmi ) at the same time.
I tried and have no luck making it work together.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 as OS, and i think it's not problem related to operating system.
Thanks in advance.
Kind Regards

I was able to select HDMI and VGA,( my built in monitor turned off ) but as i don't have a third monitor ( only laptop one and one external ) i could not test is there a picture on HDMI output but i can say there is no sound so i assume there is no picture also. I just needed sound from HDMI. Maybe i will be able to test it on summer. Thanks on your quick reply. I was wondering is this is a limitation of the graphics adapter ? By the way, it seems Dynadock is not compatible with Linux operating systems.

  • G41TM-E43 - DVI and HDMI output at the same time?

I am looking to output to 2x 1920x1200 displays...nothing 3D and nothing that needs to be decoded...just some power point presentatinos and some flash within a browser window.
I am pretty sure the resolution isn't going to be a problem, but using both the DVI and HDMI ports at the same time is something I am concerned about.  I am looking for people with actual knowledge that this works...no guessing please.

The likelihood is that you won't be able to use DVI & HDMI at the same time, but you could use one or the other in conjunction with the VGA (D-Sub) port.
But as this is a user-to-user forum, and you may have to wait for someone with actual experience of this to see this thread and respond, for a definitive answer, contact MSI Support direct:

  • Connecting Micro USB and HDMI cables at the same time

I need to be able to use a Micro USB and HDMI cable at the same time to configure ATV to connect to WPA2-Enterprise secure WiFi network.  I'm using Apple Configurator to do this.  Because of the poor hardware design, it isn't possible to connect both the Micro USB and HDMI cables at the same time.  Does anyone have a worrkaround to resolving this issue?
I saw a similar post about this problem in the forums dating back to April 2013 with no real solution.  It's been over a year now and I'm hoping someone has found a workaround to this problem.  I have a bunch of ATVs that I need to configure for our classrooms.
    Thanks!

  • Is it possible to use the HDMI output at the same time as the usb camera adaptor on an iPhone 4s

    I want to use the
    Apple Digital AV Adapter and
    Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit
    with my iphone 4s.
I want to have the screen output to a larger screen (HDMI tv) and use a keyboard and mouse (usb) with the iphone apps.
Anyone tried this or know if it will work?

I have a raspberry pi and have bought the Atrix lapdock to use with it. I'm also hoping to use the lapdock with my iPhone 4s through the digital AV plug (HDMI and 30-pin) and the usb connector from the camera kit (into the 30-pin connector on the digital AV plug). I am making the assumption that they will work together, is that true? Anybody have both connectors?

  • Satellite P100: Can I connect two external monitor to VGA & DVI port at the same time?

The Satellite P100 comes with two external monitor port. A VGA and a DVI. Can you have have two external monitor working at the same time? Can you have two external monitor as well as your internal display working at the same time (for a total of 3 display at the same time?
Here is what I have confirm:
Internal display + DVI connector display
    OR
Internal display + VGA connector display
    Is it possible to have:
DVI connector display + VGA connector display?
    OR
DVI connector display + VGA connector display + Internal display?

As far as I know this is not possible and you can use either DVI or VGA port.
For signal output can be used only one port for external display.

  • Does 5870 support ACD/VGA/HDMI at the same time?

I have a 5870 video card in my 2010 Mac Pro. One mini displayport (mDP) is connected to a 27" ACD. Currently I have the second mDP connected through a mDP-to-VGA adapter to a 17" VGA monitor. Everything works fine.
I decided to free up the second mDP and reconnected the VGA through a VGA-to-DVI (I) adapter.
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10419&cs_id=1041903&pid=2396&seq=1&format=2
    Again everything still works fine.
Now that the second mDP was free I tried to hook it to my Sony 32XBR6 to it with a a 15' HDMI cable connected to a mDP-to-HDMI DVI-I adapter.
    http://www.frys.com/product/6311581
As soon as I connected the TV it displayed my desktop. Great, except for the fact that the VGA disconnected.
What I found is that I cannot seem to use the second mDP for HDMI and the DVI for VGA _at the same time_. I can use the main 27" ACD and the VGA (with the HDMI disconnected) or the main 27" ACD and the HDMI (with the VGA connected), just not all concurrently as a three-monitor configuration.
The physical connection of the HDMI disables the VGA but not the other way around. Detect displays or rebooting has no effect. I thought the 5870 is capable of driving three monitors albeit one of those monitors is through a HDMI connection. And I would think a 17" VGA cannot require that much "power" from the card couldn't handle it.
Now I suppose the problem could be the specific adapters I used. But considering they work independently I'm not inclined to blame them.
So does anybody have any idea what may be going wrong? Or is this just a limitation of the 5870 in a VGA/ADC/HDMI configuration?

HDMI is basically single-link DVI plus digital audio in one cable. You can find simple DVI to HDMI adapters and cables. They contain no electronics; they just convert between connectors. They do not provide audio since there is no audio in DVI.
DVI (and HDMI) use one data line and one clock line per link. DVI can be single or dual link, but HDMI is only single link. Mini DisplayPort has two data lines available for video. Clock lines aren't used. A passive adapter tells the Mini DisplayPort to send data on one line and clock on the other. There are not enough lines for this to work with dual-link DVI, so dual-link adapters include active circuitry to separate the clock and data from one line. VGA adapters also need active circuitry.
The Apple tech note says that for three displays, no passive adapters can be used.
There are some active single-link Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters available

    such as
    <http://accellcables.com/products/DisplayPort/DP/mdpdvi_slactive.htm>
(You could add a DVI to HDMI adapter or cable to make it HDMI, but it wouldn't have audio.)
but the only active Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter I have found is this
    <http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/337561577/miniactive_display_port_tohdmi.html>
If you could get one (not 500) it should solve your problem.
My suggestion to get HDMI from the card's DVI port won't get audio (I didn't see that requirement in your original post) but you could combine video from the card's DVI port (or from an active Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter) with audio from the Mac Pro's optical audio output port to HDMI with

  • Satellite L550-11K - Device manager shows wrong CPU

I have bought the Satellite L550-11K to myself and because stan it has a p8700 processor with 2.53 GHz. However, in the device manager it stands 2 times a T4200 processor with 2 GHz!!!?

    Hey,
I had the same issue that the CPU in my desktop computer wasnt listed properly so I have removed the CPU from device manager (right click > uninstall) and restart the notebook. You have to remove both entries.
After restarting the CPU will be recognized again and this time it should be listed properly. For me it worked. :)
Another question, are you running the preinstalled OS or have you installed another OS?

is the Apple Digital AV Adapter  and the Apple VGA Adapter the same thing i want to get a ipad and i want to no if there the same thing before i buy it i would want it for the web for pic but for videos too

VGA is an analog signal, while HDMI is an uncompressed digital image.
The uncompressed digital image is more superior.

  • DVI to AV ...and... DVI to VGA... at the same time?

A Mac Mini was purchased for use with a "student TV station" run by an elementary school classroom. It will need to output a composite video signal quite often, as well as be used a standard VGA monitor.
Except the Mini can't do this. At least not normally. Apple sells two adapters for the DVI port, and it appears that we can only use one or the other, but not both:
    - Apple DVI to Video Adapter, $19
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6234003/wo/T26cQ NkfGcGT3Pxe2vN1uH3OqJ9/1.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.3.3
    - Apple DVI to VGA Display Adapter, $19
    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6234003/wo/T26cQ NkfGcGT3Pxe2vN1uH3OqJ9/1.0.19.1.0.8.25.7.11.0.3
However, if I go look around on the Internet, it is possible to find a way to split the single DVI port on the Mini into two or more DVI ports, and then plug in both adapters at the same time:
    StarTech 2-Port DVI Digital Video Splitter/Amplifier, $115
    http://www.provantage.com/startech-st122dvi~7STRV00N.htm
I note that this is only a single-link DVI splitter, good up to only 1600x1200. I have no idea if single or dual link matters for this application, but if dual-link is required, here is a more expensive dual-link DVI-splitter option:
Kramer Electronics VM-2DVI 1:2 DVI Distribution Amplifier, $267
    http://www.internet-security-inc.com/catalog/productinfo.php?productsid=486245
The question here is... can this work?
Apple is known for doing strange things with its own proprietary hardware, incorporating hidden signalling and so forth, and I'd expect nothing less of this odd little DVI to composite video adapter.
If there's some backchannel communications going on between the video adapter and the Mini, then things may get confused if I try to split the signal and use a VGA monitor at the same time.
In a worst-case scenario, this could possibly damage the Mini, the monitor, or the adapter. Or at minimum, perhaps the video adapter won't work at all.
Has anyone tried splitting the Mini's DVI port like this?

Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4)

This sounds like it could work. One restriction is that both displays would have to be displaying the exact same image at the same resolution. Since it sounds like one of the devices will be a TV, you will probably be running 640 x 480. That's a pretty low resolution to be running on a VGA monitor.
You don't need dual-link. Single link will be fine. The mini doesn't support dual link. You might want to call on startech.com and get some pre-sales information about your application. I think you are justified in your worries that the setup of this box with a mini might prove tricky. I was reading the manual for the ST122DVI and came across this cryptic note: "If you install the DDC monitor for the splitter, the rest of the monitors must be the same resolution as the DDC monitor." That sounds like a bad translation from another language to English. The mini relies on DDC (backchannel communications, as you put it) so the box needs to pass this info correctly or you will have set up trouble and would probably have to resort to a utility like DisplayConfigX or SwithRes X to manually set a resolution.

How does one use Soundsticks while using HDMI at the same time ??

    Hi Caleb,
This isn't a precise answer but a possible workable solution. SoundSource puts a menu extra which allows you to switch input/output and has an option for Auto-Switch to Headphones. The auto-switch feature doesn't work with USB headphones but I believe it will with 'regular' headphone plugs such as you use.
