Satellite L555D-d7005 hangs on bootup

I have a Satellite L555D-d7005, over 2 years old, so out of warranty, installed Windows 7 pro about 3 weeks ago, now today it hangs at the Toshiba splash screen for about 45 seconds or longer, after that it boots into windows just fine. My question, is this normal or not, it used to stay at the splash screen for about 5-10 seconds, then boot into windows with no problem.
It never hung this long before; I am not sure what to do, please help.

Did you update the BIOS in the past? And if yes, did you notice this after the BIOS update?
Usually the BIOS splash screen has nothing to do with the preinstalled software. So the preinstalled Win 7 should not affect this
The one main reason could be a hardware issue usually the POST (power on self-test) runs at the beginning and if an hardware problem would be detected, then the BIOS splash screen could hangs for a while
Otherwise it could be possible that HDD or the RAM module might be faulty.
In order to check the HDD I recommend using the freeware tool called Drive Fitness Test. It helps you to run HDD diagnostics process.
You could also try to remove one of the RAM modules and could boot the unit using one module.

  • How do I hook up the audio on Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 to TV

I have a Toshiba Satellite L555D-7005 notebook and I am trying to get the notebook audio to play out my Insignia™-(22" Class / 1080p / 60Hz / LED-LCD HDTV-NS-22E450A11) TV.  The only connection I could see working to stream video to the TV from the notebook was with a RGB to RGB cable.  That worked for the picture, but not the sound.  I bought an audio cable with one end that fits the headphone out hole on my computer and the other end has r RCA plugs that fit into the red and white audio holes on the TV.   The cables and the TV are color coded with  red and white plugs and everything seemed to fit properly, but sound will not come out on the TV. I am wondering if anyone out there with a L555D also has an Insignia Tv and can tell me how to hook up the audio.  Also, I read that the RGB cable is provides the lowest quality picture.  Is thee a better way to hook up the video?  I would appreciate any information anyone can share !  Thanks, Cindy

  • Satellite L500 - System hanging on startup screen after Windows update

    Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help. My Satellite L500 is hanging on the blue startup screen after it restarted after a windows update, the mouse arrow is moving, and there seems to be some hard drive activity with some flickering in the system indicator lights. Other than that, nothing? Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Denise

It was stuck on the Windows 7 welcome screen, all I had to do was hold the power button down for longer and restart it properly. I was just concerned as they always say not to turn the computer off during an update.
*All good now* thanks anyway :)

  • Satellite A660-18N hanging and needs hard reboot

My Satellite A660-18N hangs every other day about 2/3 times. I cannot press ctrl + alt + del and the mouse does not move. I have to hold down the power button to reboot it manually. It started about 2 weeks after I got it which was in September. I watch a lot of videos online (and offline) and usually after the screen freezes/hangs, the audio continues and stretches. I thought that this was a problem with IE8 so I switched to Google Chrome but this still continues. This problem also occurs offline. Also, after my laptop hangs, the fan speeds up so I thought it was an overheating problem. I bought a cooling mat a few days ago and the system still hangs. I'm not sure what to do now, can anyone help?
    Intel core i7 q740 @ 1.73Ghz
    4.00GB ram
    64-bit OS
    Windows 7
Nvidia Geforce 310M 512MB dedicated video memory

I'm having the same problem as the OP, with my A660-11M.
At the moment the display is freezing a few times every day and it's been like this for the last week. Before that, (almost) no problems for a few months after having similar problems.
So, it seems to be coming in bursts which is, needless to say, bizarre.
I too experiences it mainly while watching video (and similarly the audio would continue after the freeze) so I disabled Hardware Acceleration in the FlashPlayer settings after reading this post:
    http://forums.toshiba.com/t5/Video-Display/Toshiba-A660-Screen-Freeze/td-p/189944
    But this didn't help.
Then I thought it might be Chrome, so I switched to Firefox 4.0.1 but this didn't help either.
Now, I have disabled the Flash plugin to see if that works - too early to say so far.
BTW, these days the crashing is occuring mostly when I am NOT playing video - although I don't play much video anyway.

  • My Satellite L650 sometimes hang sometimes

    Hello,
My Satellite L650 sometimes hang sometimes, most of time it happens when im gaming, the sounds "hangs" it makes wierd sounds when it does and also my video graphics are laggy. Never had it on any other pc/laptop before :S
    How can I fix this?
    Greetings,
    Arnie

    Hi buddy,
Can you post a little bit more details? Also some information about operating system would be nice, nobody knows what you use. Do you use a Linux distribution?
If you play games I would recommend high performance power plan as as*** already wrote. It offers best option and performance for games and other high CPU usage programs.
Furthermore keep your system clean: uninstall programs that you dont need and disable start up programs that you dont need. This can improve the performance a lot!
But you must understand its very hard to say something about sometimes errors.

  • Satellite L555D-S7005 BIOS crisis recovery

    Hello,
My Satellite L555D-S7005 refuses to POST with no screen, USB or hard drive activity after a bad BIOS flash.  The only thing working is the CDROM drive.  I can use the Fn+B combination to enter the Phoneix BIOS recovery mode but after having tried countless times trying a USB floppy drive, USB flash drives, the card reader (which is also internally wired through USB), it is apparent the whole USB subsystem is failing and only the CDROM drive can be used for crisis recovery.  Is there any information about how to recovery a Satellite L555D-S7005 using only a recovery CD as in what contents would be required.  I have already tried burning discs containing the ISO with the BIOS update, even modified to pass more aggressive options to the Phoenix flash tool, as well as making bootable CDs with the floppy image of the crisis disc.  The CDROM will always read for a while and then stop sometimes stopping with the CDROM light remaining on, other times it turns off.  But nonetheless, the BIOS is never recovered.  Does anyone have any Maintenance Manual information or links for this laptop?  I would like to recover it by hand if possible without taking it in for service unless there is absolutely no way or information about doing a Phoenix crisis recover using a CDROM drive for this model.  I have seen many success stories regarding floppy drives, USB flash drives and card readers but never with CDROM though it is alluded to on many sites.
    Regards.

It is not easy to offer some precise diagnostic but I think there is serious hardware problem and you will not be able to fix it with this standard procedure as BIOS repair or memory module/HDD exchange.
Long time ago I had similar problem on my Satellite M and in my case CPU was defective. After CPU exchange I was able to start notebook again. So maybe is the same problem on your notebook. Obtain used but well working CPU on eBay, exchange it and try to start your notebook.
I dont know if you can do this alone but CPU exchange is very sensitive work and should be done by someone who knows how to do this.

  • Satellite L875D-S7232 Hangs Up When Booting on Battery Power

Hello all... As I stated in another thread regarding Special Function Keys, my new Satellite L875D-S7232 has an issue that during boot-up of Windows 7 HP SP1 without the AC Adapter plugged into it, it will "hang up". After many hours of troubleshooting & even having it looked at from the retail tech that sold it to me, we have found no solution for this. I have also formatted the machine, partitioned the HD, & installed My version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit SP1, along with updated ATI & Realtek drivers, along with only the updated driver software from Toshiba support website, & this issue still presists. This apparently isn't due to faulty written bloatware, & apparently due to an actual hardware issue. I am returning it to the retail outlet I purchased it from, in hopes they have a replacement machine of this model since I do like this platform at the price I got it. I will respond to this post to let ya know if the replacement was a success & the issue only pretained to this actual machine, which is what I am suspecting since I haven't seen any posts on this forum of a similiar issue. I did come across a port/thread (whatever ya call them) where a person had a different model, & his machine did exactly the reverse of mine, where his machine would hang up on the boot if the AC adapter was plugged in, but fine when running on battery. Myself & the retail tech even tried the solution they suggested of changing BIOS setting on the Processor cores... This solution was unsuccesful for my machine.

I hope it works fine after the exchange. Let us know how it goes.

  • K7T Turbo2 Hangs on bootup..HELP!!

For some reason, my Turbo2 with the latest 3.6 bios stalls during the drive initialization bootup. In other words, while it scans for the drives, floppy, cdrom and harddrive during bootup the system would just hang. I would have to press the reset buttom for the system to reboot and would bootup just fine the second time.
Why is doing this? Other than the hanging up on the first bootup after the computer has been off, the computer runs just fine.
    Any ideas??
    Here are the specs:
    K7T Turbo2 w/ latest bios 3.6
    AMD Tbird 1.3ghz
    256mb PC133 SDRAM
    20gig maxtor HD
    TNT2 M64 32mb video card
    300watt inwin S500 case
    Guillemot Maxi Muse sound card
    100mb internal zip drive
    52x generic cdrom
    1.44 floppy
    Windows XP Pro with SP1

    Thanks Bas,
I flashed to the latest because the latest bios allowed my k7tturbo2 to support 2400+, and 2600+ amd XP cpus.  With the 3.5 it would only allow support up to only 2200+.   I don't have the 2400+ as of yet, on order at the momment.
    Thanks again.

  • Satellite A110-293 hangs in the hibernate mode

Toshiba Satellite A110-293 is hanging in the hibernate mode after opening the notebook cover. Nothing happens after tapping the keyboard, mouse clicking or any other activity (i.e. opening DVD-ROM etc.)
The cover was closed as usual with some programs running. After about 10 minutes I`ve tried to open but all system was in hibernate mode and it is still sleeping.
Please help me to restart (fix or smth) the notebook, because I haven`t found any restart button.
    Many Thanks in advance.

well, if I were you I would probably try to:
    1) (long) press the Power button until its blue light shuts down (just to be sure the system is powered down)
    2) press again the Power button to power-up the system;
if (and only if) the system was not starting to boot after (step 2) I would do the following:
    3) unplug the power cord from the laptop
    a) if all the LEDs are off remove the battery (for a few minutes)
(only) if any LED/(light indicator) is on when trying to perform the step 3a) - proceed as described in step 1) and then try again the above ( step 3a) and then 3b) - below )
    b) put the battery back and try again step 1) and step 2)
if even after step 3) the system still refuses to power on I would try:
    4) with the power cord (from the adapter) unplugged from the laptop, remove the battery (as stated in 3) and 3a) ); then try to plug in the power cord and power (from the Power button) the laptop - without the battery (battery removed)
    a) if the laptop powers up it could be a battery problem; at least the system is functioning! :)
    b) if the laptop still doesn't power up then I would take it to warranty
if I were you I would do what I wrote above; I don't advice you to do or not to do what I previously stated; I'm just telling you what I would try in such a case

  • Satellite L750 system hangs after disconnecting the WLan

I bought Satellite L750 series laptop on that i connected Wifi. if i disconnect Wifi then system get hanging. I cant do anything in that. I updated driver software and i checked all the possibilities as my knowledge.

    >if i disconnect Wifi then system get hanging.
I assume you are using Fn + F8 to enable/disable the WLan.
    Right?
Did you try to recover the system in order to check if this is a system problem?
I think you should do that and should recover the notebook using HDD recovery procedure
Power up the unit, press F8, choose Repair my Computer, choose HDD recovery and follow the instruction on the screen then you will get the system with factory settings.
    Then test the WLan.

  • Satellite A100-TA7 hangs at POST after BIOS update

Being kind of tech swavy, i know my chances are very low in fixing this but here goes.
I decided to update the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite A100-TA7(PSAA8C-TA702C) laptop to the latest version available (6.00).
I did this because I've heard of people have better luck in making their FN keys work in linux with the newer BIOS.
The installation finished normally(went through all the steps, wrote all 21 blocks) without any errors but after rebooting I noticed that it now hangs at the Toshiba logo screen.
The blue progress bar moves twice but then gets stuck about 1/3 of the way through.
In order to see how bad the damage was, I pressed esc at the beginning of POST and saw that it gives me the right BIOS Version (6.00).
It also tells me that "No TPM or TPM has problem", and "2039M System RAM Passed."
It then displays the message "Press <F2> to enter SETUP" (which makes the message disappear, but otherwise does nothing.
If i press f2 during the Toshiba logo screen, it replaces the message at the bottom with "Please wait" and nothing happens even after waiting an hour.
(Which makes sense because before the whole blue bar would load before going into the CMOS settings). The thing is that the BIOS doesn't really "freeze", It just gets stuck at one specific place (I know this because i can press F2 even after waiting an hour and the laptop does respond to it by displaying "Please Wait".
Anyone have any more things i could try? Thank you
PS. I tried clearing the CMOS too. (By holding the power button for like 60 seconds without any power source <--- I'm not sure if this is how you do it on this laptop so any info would be nice). And I'm also 100% sure i chose the right BIOS update and followed every single instruction.

    Hello Greg
I am very happy to hear you have solved this BIOS issue but I must react because of some your statements here. I do not have timet to do some research but let us write about some facts. I use Toshiba notebooks over 10 years now and I think I can say that I am pretty experienced with all this stuff.
Toshiba sold hundred thousand laptops and I can really not imagine that this can be some common problem because, I presume, all offered stuff on download page is tested. If 0.5% cases are the same it does not mean there is general problem. What you think how many people use the same BIOS update as you? I guess thousands of them.
About Linux support I can say the same as Eldorado. Sorry but I am afraid you do not understand what the support is. Just some facts:
Toshiba does not offer drivers for Linux OS
Toshiba does not offer tools and utilities for Linux
Toshiba does not offer BIOS for Linux
Toshiba does not test anything relevant for Linux functionality (very important for support)
With short words: there is nothing for Linux. If you can install Linux successfully and use it without problems you are very lucky guy and be happy, but there is definitely no support.
If you exchange experiences with other people it is really good and you should do this in the future but if you hear something and later something goes wrong it is your problem.
At the end I can say that this is user-to-user forum and you should be happy if someone here want to discuss about your problem and try to help. If you are not satisfied with comments or opinions it is your problem and if you want professional opinion you know very well where you can get it.
    Have a nice day.

  • When the BT is enabled/disabled Satellite A300-U01 hangs few seconds

I have Satellite A300-U01... there is one problem sometimes when I ENABLE or DISABLE Bluetooth device in my laptop, the laptop hangs for 3 or 5 seconds and if some song is playing it hangs and make strange noise for 3 or 5 seconds then become normal...

Maybe some active background process is responsible for this.
Do you still use preinstalled Antivir application?
Have you noticed HDD activity (blinking HDD LED) while hanging?
To be honest o don't believe this hanging issue has something to do with BT.

  • Satellite 2410-303 hangs when CPU cache level 2 was enabled

I have Satellite 2410-303 Bios version 1.40 and when i enable CPU cache level 2 the laptop dose not work and still hang.
So now I only enable CPU cache level 1 and disable cache level 2 so the laptop run slowly.

    Hi
Well, what to say, the Level 2 cache is an external CPU memory.
Possibly there is something wrong with the CPU? Who knows
Did you try to update the BIOS? Check if its possible and if the newer BIOS version is available.
Sorry but I cannot suggest any other solutions because for me it looks like an hardware problem and in such case the ASP help is needed.
    Best regards

  • Windows 7 hangs on bootup - Culprit appears to be Network Location Awareness

We just finished our deployment of Windows 7 a few weeks ago. Everything ran great for a while. This week an issue started popping
up. Random computers will hang on "Please Wait" during bootup. We can leave them for days and they will stay there. If we disable the Network Location Awareness service, they bootup just fine. Then we re-enable it and everything runs smooth (most
of the time). A couple of machines experience the issue again on their next reboot. Other machines have had the issue once and then seemed fine after. All machines are the same Dell models (7010) and were imaged with the same image. So far, the only solution
I've found online is to disable that service and then re-enable it. That works as a band-aid, but does anybody have a permanent solution for this?
    Dave

    Hi,
We can install windows performance toolkit and then capture a boot trace to look at what happens during boot process:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mniehaus/archive/2012/09/13/using-the-windows-performance-toolkit.aspx
On the other hand, disable the following policy to check if it makes any difference:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
Also, apply any updated network driver if there is.

  • Macbook Pro Hangs on bootup

I have upgraded to Mavricks on my 13" non-retina mbp, why is it hang on the bootup or start up, it just freeze there with the round round thing circulating with the mouse pointer blinking at the top left corner.
It seems like not stable, I have to do a hard boot (on/off) and only on the 2nd time then it's able to be used.
Please advise, it's my first mbp.

    Oliver,
I haven’t used Disk Warrior, so I’m unable to advise on its capabilities.
Since you’ve been able to backup your MacBook Pro’s data to an external drive, another option from the Recovery menu can be tried. Repeat the ⌘r boot,  select “Reïnstall Mac OS X” from its Mac OS X Utilities menu, and follow the instructions. This will reïnstall Mavericks from the recovery partition to your boot partition; ideally it should leave your other data untouched. When the reïnstallation finishes, boot normally, and see if it can get past the beach ball of doom.
If it doesn’t, then the “nuclear” option can be tried — repeat the ⌘r boot, run Disk Utility,  use it to completely erase your internal disk, exit Disk Utility, and shut down from the Apple menu. If your MacBook Pro is a Late 2011 model or newer, power it up, and use its OS X Internet Recovery capability to redownload its original version of OS X from Apple’s servers. If it’s an Early 2011 model or older, boot from your grey Mac OS X Install DVD and install its original version of OS X from the DVD. In either case, after OS X is installed, run Software Update to bring it up to date within its version. If it doesn’t have at least OS X 10.6.8 installed, install Snow Leopard from the white retail DVD, and run Software Update to bring it up to 10.6.8. After this, Mavericks can be redownloaded and reïnstalled (if it wasn’t the original version of OS X restored by Internet Recovery); once Mavericks is installed, run Software Update to bring it up to date. If you have a Time Machine backup drive, make a backup now. Once the backup is made, try restoring your data from the backup that you’d previously made, and see if Mavericks will finally behave itself.
