Satellite L650 wouldn't start up periodically

I recently purchased a Toshiba Satellite L650 laptop with Win7.
Worked for a few days and then periodically wouldn't start up.
Can you assist? I Only installed anti-virus application.

Hi
I would recommend performing HDD recovery procedure which helps you to set the notebook back to factory settings.
Then you should test the notebook once again in my opinion this should be done at first because its really difficult to say if the issue is hardware or software related so recovery would help to get more info

  • Satellite L650-15G - HDD starts after 10 to 15 seconds

    Hi my dear ,
    please can anyone help,
I have my Satellite L650-15G, I bought it on 1-10-2010. I have a problem that happens only with battery, when I press power button, I hear the fan starting, the wirless lamp, the power lamp lighting then but not the hard disk lamp, after 2 to 3 seconds the laptop shut down. If I pressed power button again after that or I pressed again it during that, the hard disk lamp light and it start normally. This never occur when I connect charger with battery or when I use it with the adapter only.
I changed battery from the Toshiba, but no way. I changed power plans, made adjustements in the power managements of bios (1.8 version after I updated ), made disable, enable to some features in device manager but no way.
The most strange thing that many times it starts normal and other times it makes so. Also this can be manifested sometimes by long boot time, which means that sometimes I hear fan, see wirless, power lights and after 10 to 15 sec the hard disk lights and starts.
    Please help me
I went to Toshiba warranty center in cairo and they checed it on tester then said nothing abnorml with processor, hard, rams

    Hi
Wait a moment; does this means that your notebook boots up ONLY with connected AC adaptor?
Hmm usually in the first step the battery should be checked to ensure that this is not a battery related issue but it seems that you have already checked this and the new battery didnt help to sort out this issue
I think this is a motherboard problem possibly power supply electronic issue but this is just an assumption therefore I think that you will need to ask an professional technician for checking this part.
Sorry this is everything what I can suggest you

  • Disk read error on Satellite L650

My Toshiba Satellite L650 will not start up.
When I switch it on, TOSHIBA is display follow by disk read error, press ctrl+alt+del to restart.
I did that and the same thing happens again. So far only F2 and F12 works , tried F8, it gives a loud continous beep then back to the same message.
    Can anyone help?
Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated!
    Thanks in advanced!
    Cheers!

    Hi
What HDD status is visible in BIOS?
Is HDD recognized in BIOS? You will need to check the first BIOS page.
Usually you should see the HDD and the HDD name.
If the HDD isnt listed, then probably its faulty and needs to be replaced.
    Waiting for feedback!

  • Satellite L650 PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC - Start Up Error

I have a Satellite L650 which is 2 month old.
The motherboard makes a ticking noise (I think that is what is making the noise), and when this noise takes place it causes the computer to be very slow!! It has been this way since I pretty much got it.
Today, the computer made the noise, my itunes music started skipping (it was the only program running) and the computer froze, and told me it couldnt find windows. When I restart my computer it runs the windows 7 startup repair, finds nothing wrong, and restarts the computer. When the computer restarts, the screen stays black for a very long time....then it flashes a blue screen (the flash is so quick I have no idea what it says) and asks if I would like to run the repair again. I select no, start windows normally....and the screen goes black for a very long time, however their is no ticking noise, but it appears nothing is happening.
    If I force a restart, I get an error message saying along the lines of;
For Atheros PCIE Ethernet Controller... check cable connection
    PXE-E63:error while initializing the NIC
    PXE-MOF:exiting intel PXE ROM
No bootable device-insert boot disk and press eny key
    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

    hi,
    > The motherboard makes a ticking noise (I think that is what is making the noise), and when this noise takes place it causes the computer to be very slow!
the hard drive may do a clicking sound and also pxe error message can appear if hdd stop working. You can read it here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=8
what if you enter bios (f2 on startup) and check if hdd listed there. but anyway, you shouldn't be worry :) your lap is still new and under warranty. So, it will be fixed for free.

  • Satellite L650 - Cannot start the Office 2010 - icon has changed

    I have a new Satellite L650.
Using the Office 2010 icon on the desktop and my software code I installed the program.
Now I can't find it and the changed office icon says only for use for installed programs.
Where is it? Not in the listed programs.

    Hi mate
Office is a package which contains several single applications like MS Word, Outlook, etc... so you will not be able to start Office clicking on Office icon.
If you want to start MS Word for example, then you will need to choose this software.
Usually you could find this going to Start button -> All Programs -> MS Office.

  • Satellite L650-16W - Fan doesnt (re)start after standby

Hello i own a Satellite L650-16W and after standby-mode the fan doesnt start again. So the temperature increases untill a reboot is necessary. After the reboot the fan works correctly again. I own this notebook for about 4 month and at the beginning this problem didnt appear.
Ive tried to update the bios but it seems to be the actual version. And i dont find any options to put the fan manually on again. So maybe anybody has got the same problem or a solution.
    Thanks for your help.

Bios reflash is a a little bit tricky procedure and if it goes wrong you will get a black screen. Note, the warranty doesn't cover bios reflash failure. Go to the toshiba driver page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and choose the right Bios for your model
If Bios version on toshiba driver page is the same with installed one yoyr lap, download it anyway and run it. Read carefully instructions how to reflash it:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=60
you may get a message while reflashing the current version is already installed....
Anyway, before all, I advise to restore the factory settings to be sure that isn't OS related issue.

  • Toshiba Satellite L650-07U, Hard disk failure and replacement

    Hi all,
I have Toshiba Satellite L650-07U Laptop, Model: PSK1EC-0700Q with 4GB RAM, 650GB HD, Windows 7 Home Premium installed. At the time of first use, i made Recovery DVDs which took 4 blank DVDs using Recovery media creator.
From 2 weeks it is giving problem, at start its slowdown with every application,  then suddenly it started Hard disk failure error and ask to backup important files. From that instant i did all my backup save in another portable Hard drive.
I had hiren boot CD, and ran RAM test and found it OK, and then run Hard Disk test and found few bad sectors at few certain point, As 650GB Hard disk was taking alot time of time for checking bad sectors, so i stopped that application.
First I tried Recovery DVDs to restore Windows, but it failed as Laptop DVD-Writer was unable to boot from those created DVDs (DVDs are OK as had checked it on Desktop computer DVD-ROM), Laptop DVD-Writer is also working as I test few more bootable CDs and it booted perfectly, but it is not booting from Recovery DVDs.
Than i tried to restore from Recovery partition using Factory restore settings, it erases all data and reinstall new and fresh copy of Windows 7 Home Premium. It works fine for few hours than again pops up Hard Disk Failure message again and again. I searched here in Toshiba Forum and have found similar problem with other members and finally decided that it need to replace Hard Disk with new one. As It is now two and a half month old, thats why i need to buy new Hard Disk for my Laptop.
I checked all partitions of drive using Hiren Boot CD, and had found that there are four default partitions in Toshiba original laptop drive,
One hidden partition of 1.5 GB
One hidden partition of almost 21 GB
One hidden partition of almost 12 GB
One partition of 561 GB, which was the original partition where windows 7 was installed along with all of my Data.
Now I want to replace faulty drive with a new one and have a lot of question in my mind which I need to share with you guys.
At the time of first use I installed Windows 7 64 bit edition, and made Recovery DVDs, and at second time of restore to factory setting I had installed Windows 7 32 bit. I have confusion about recovery DVDs (which is not booting from default DVD-Writer of Laptop), either it has 64 Bit recovery data or 32 bit? Or have both 64 and 32 bit Data.
Toshiba restore to factory setting without using any recovery DVD/USB is the best possible way to restore Windows 7, How can I make same recover hidden partitions from original/faulty hard drives to new hard drive partitions? Is this possible and how?
On Default hard drive there was one partition of 561GB instead of two or more partitions. Is this possible to split partitions in new hard drives instead of one big partition?
As Recovery DVDs are not able to boot from laptop default DVD-Writer, is it possible to open those DVDs on another System and copy tem in USB drive and use it for booting? If it is possible than please show me the steps for making bootable USB from these Recovery DVDs.
    Thanks,
    masterleous
    Solved!

    Satellite L650-07U (PSK1EC-07U00Q)
This site is for US computers. I doubt you'll get your questions for that Canadian model answered here.
There appear to be two recovery partitions. Maybe one for 32- and one for 64-bit Windows. Or maybe one is for English and the other for French.
Your User's Manual isn't much help either. You probably need to ask Toshiba tech support in Canada.
About all I have to offer is this: Be wary of drives with advanced-format technology. See my message about that.

  • Satellite L650-170 (PSK1JE) Setup Failure

Today i purchased a toshiba Satellite L650-170 (PSK1JE), i turned it on, and yay, I had to sit through a 2 hour long setup.
After 2 hours, it restarted for the 10+th time, and this time, instead of succesfully installing one of the 42 things it had to install,
it didnt start up, the only thing that was on the screen was a loading bar, with the text above saying it was starting the services
It did not do anything, i could just leave it there for an hour, "starting services"
So i tried to repair it, started it up, F8, and guess what, there was no Repair Computer option(wich should be there!),
all the other options were available, such as safe mode, so i tried safe mode
Even in safe mode the loading bar popped up, starting the services, and it crashed there.
I tried to recover it with a windows 7 recovery disk (wich i had to download and burn myself on another laptop..!)
Even with a recovery disk, it only gave me errors, it was unable to start the recovery
So yeah, now were about 6 hours later, ive successfully installed a trial of a different version of windows 7 on it,
Now all i have to do is download about 30 drivers from your website, and install them one by one, and restart the computer 30 times
I installed the webcam driver, restarted like it told me to, and i got a message that it was missing a dll file.
Do you have a disk available for download that contains the regular windows 7 home premium setup? with all the proper drivers?
Because mine was bugged obviously. Im not going to download 30 drivers that will not work on the current win 7 i have installed on it.
    Regards,
    Philipp.

    Recovery disk is not downloadable
First of all the notebook should contain HDD recovery option which could be started pressing F8 -> Repair my Computer -> HDD recovery.
Its strange that you didnt find this option
Here is documentation how to start the HDD recovery. But of course this would work only if the HDD was not formatted and OS has not been changed
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=58
However, it seems you have formatted the HDD using other Windows OS.
If you want to get recovery disk then you can purchase this from here:

  • Satellite L650-1MM - Video display issue

    Greetings from Finland.
So, about a month ago I bought this laptop of mine, Satellite L650-1MM, and I've been wondering what the heck is the problem with video display. Dunno for sure is it a problem with the hardware or just something with the computers settings. I mean, even on youtube, I got so pixelated image when watching some 720p HD videofootage, that it hurts. Here's some evidence: [http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6623/youtubena.jpg] And yes, I got the latest Flash Player plug-ins and all, so that couldn't be it.
And maybe, possibly, when I watch some ********** movies, tv-series or something, they all looke so pixelated. And I know that there's codecs and all, but I'm positive, that I got all that handled. As a matter of fact, in the beginning I had worse video display, but with codecs I got it a little better. Still, I'm far from satisfied. Now, I've heard that there might be some problems with Windows 7 and video display, but you know, can't be sure.
So, basically I'm here to rule out the possibility, that there might be some problem with the hardware. Could there be? The screen looks just fine, when normally idling and for example surfing the net, but streaming videos or watching some videos, oh man, oh man, it's so pixelated. I got the latest display drivers from Toshiba, BIOS-drivers too. Would it be any help, if I got the latest drivers straight from AMD's site (Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5650)? Does that even work? I mean when Toshiba updates their own display drivers and all, and very rarely what I've heard.
    Here's my laptops specs:
    Satellite L650-1MM
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    BIOS-version 1.80
    Intel Core i5 CPU M460 @ 2.53 GHz
    4096MB RAM
    HDD ~600GB
Ati Mobility Radeon HD 5650 version=8.723.2.0
    15"6, 1366x768
    True Color (32-Bit)
Conexant Audio Driver For AMD HDMI Codec version=4.98.26.0
So please, If there's any hint you can give me, I would very much appreciate it!
    edit.
Also, just remembered, that I had one more problem. When connecting HDMI to my 40" HDTV, and when I close my laptop screen, the sound starts to bug, and in some cases video too. So I have to keep my laptop screen open, so I can watch movies without any sound or video problems. What's with that?

    Hi
Please take a look to the settings called Choose what closing lid does. This can be found in the control panel -> power options
On the left you can see this option.
There you should choose Do nothing.
Furthermore in Advanced Power settings you can find the option called Multimedia settings
There is a suboption called When playing video. Both settings should be set to Optimize video quality
    check it out!

  • Re: Can't perform factory reset to Satellite L650

    Hi support team,
    Hope you are well :)
I have some troubles and hope you will help me to resolve them. Here is the description of my problem:
I have a Toshiba Satellite L650 - 17R laptop which I want to reset to factory defaults. I have used the following instructions to do that (http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm), but when I'm pressing to the F8 upon notebook's startup there appears a list of choises on the display which doesn't contain "Repair Your Computer" or "?????????????? ???????" or something like that. The first entry in that list is "Safe Mode", second is "Safe Mode With Networking" and so on. Also I've tried the other method described in lots of places in the internet, that is to press 0 and power buttons together when turning on the laptop. In this case again it starts to do things as described in the instructions (for example here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5dEOm1EJBw): it beeps then, when I'm releasing the 0 button, it prints "starting Windows" and shows Windows logo, after that it turns on as always and no other dialog boxes are shown.
    Questions:
Is there an alternative way to do the factory reset?
I have doubts that the "Toshiba HDD recovery" tool of my laptop is corrupted, so is it possible to download that tool from the internet, put it on dvd disk and install from there? If yes, then can you please give me a link of that tool for my model?
    Best Regards,
    Mihran Hovsepyan.

Hello Mihran and welcome in Toshiba forum
Lets see what is wrong there.
At first some general info. Every new Toshiba notebook is preinstalled with original recovery image. This image is also saved on HDD on separate partition. With original factory settings Repair my computer option will be listed in Advanced boot options (F8 at start-up) and HDD recovery option can be done as described in Toshiba document that you posted in your first posting. If nothing is changed this option will be there and you will be able to do HDD recovery installation again ad again.
    > when I'm pressing to the F8 upon notebook's startup there appears a list of choises on the display which doesn't contain "Repair Your Computer"
This will happen if you have installed own OS version using Microsoft installation disc. After doing this option Repair my computer will disappear and you will not be able to start HDD recovery installation anymore.
    > Is there an alternative way to do the factory reset?
Yes. You must use recovery DVD disc for OS installation. After doing this everything will be as before. Repair my computer option will be available again and you will havce original factory settings again.
If you have more questions you are welcome.

  • Satellite L650-0E8 - Blue screen so reinstall Windows?

    Hey,
I have a Satellite L650-0E8 running Windows 7 Home Premium that came preinstalled. The occaisional BSOD has turned up that I have read elsewhere as less of a probloem in Windows 7 as it is easier to trigger. With that information I disregarded a few crashes. Recently it has happened more frequently, twice in one day this week.
I have not performed any hardware alterations since purchase and the only windows changes have been the routine updates. I have run both HDD and memory checks, both returned no problems.
I am happy to reinstall windows or revert to factory settings as I have my documents backed up but do not recall recieving a Windows disc with the computer, is this required or is there another way around the problem?
    Cheers

    Hi weserneo,
Can you see the blue screen code like 0x000000123? If yes this would be useful to identify the exact problem. With this code you can search on Microsoft Knowledge Base.
If you cant see the bluescreen code you must disable the automatic restart:
Click on Start and then Control Panel
Click on the System and Maintenance
    Click on the System link
    Click the Advanced system settings
uncheck the check box next to Automatically restart.
Click OK in the Startup and Recovery window
Click OK in the System Properties window
    Reboot
By the way: Do you also get blue screens in safe mode?

  • Satellite L650-10H - Multiple Win 7 entries in boot manager

I have Toshiba Satellite L650-10H and i recently reinstalled my Win 7 64-bit.
There is no problem at all except that at the notebook start i get this [http://tinypic.com/r/se7uja/6] .
3 Win 7 entries in the boot manager
I have to always choose the first one and everything is fine.
Its like the old copy of win didnt remove although a i have formated the discs...
Is there any option to get rid of it?
I dont mind reinstalling again if i know it will help .

    > Just wonder if i remove the program after i made the changes, will it stay or it will pop up again at startup?
    No, the changes will stay.
    > And the second problem is that it solved my problem just partially.
    >I would like to somehow remove the 2 copies of Win that i dont need if it is possible.
    >This program just "hide" them.
I assume you installed both OS on different partitions right?
In such case just remove/delete the partition where the other Win 7 systems are installed.
You can do that in Disk Management (right click on My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management)

  • Toshiba Satellite L650 - 14F : Experiences?

Hi, I just bought new laptop recently. Because of my job I had to make a quick start so I installed win 7 on it etc... Now I have a little bit of time to fiddle around with linux, so I thought of installing Arch distro. Did it a few times on a virtual box, but from my experience virtual box is just too idyllic environment to actually simulate real problems one can encounter during installation e.g. internet access.
Satellite L650 really have great performances, and I'm really satisfied with how it works, but I had problems connecting to internet when I fresh installed win7. Usually windows handle this automatically when I connect with cable, and then wireless drivers are downloaded etc... but I had install drivers to be able to connect over cable at first place.
So, because of that, I'm wondering if anyone had any experience with Satellite L650, and connecting him to internet or any other problems while installing arch? Also, I'd like to keep windows on my pc. I currently have one and only partition of ~500 gigs with windows on it, so Is it advisable to prepare partitions with windows partitioner in advance to prevent any "whoops, I accidentally erased my windows partition" problems?
(Yes, yes, I saw wiki on how to configure network, etc.. but I'd like to skip that step if possible )

It is the 10ec:8136 that identifies my card.
It is good that your system identifies the NIC in lspci.  That ifconfig -a does not show it says that the kernel could not find a module to support your interface.   You will need to find the correct driver for the NIC (based upon that 32 bit signature), and install it such that the kernel can find it.
Once we find it, getting it into your system is another matter.  You said USB is not working.  Can you boot from the hard disk or must you boot from CD?  If you can boot from Disk, can you mount the CD?  That might be a way to import the needed driver.
ok, so if I'm correct, this is it:
for 02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8152 v1.1 Fast Ethernet (rev c1) after running lspci -n | grep 02:00 I got this:

  • Recovery issue on Satellite L650-12n

I have Satellite L650-12n. I bought recovery disks off this website to install on my Crucial CT256MX100SSD1. Installation appears to work but then after restarting computer this message pops up,
"windows could not complete the installation. to install windows on this computer restart the installation."
    and sometimes this:
"windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"
I have tried twice and the same thing happened.
I looked in BIOS and the SSD is recognised. I have tried resetting to defaults but nothing seems to work.
Any help getting past this problem before I bin the lot would be much appreciated!

I have started all over for the 3rd time. It has done the same thing - it gets to 100% on WIndows Setup and then error message comes up. The first time it says "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware"
After hitting OK it restarts itself and every subsequent restart it says "windows could not complete the installation. to install windows on this computer restart the installation."
I have found somewhat of a work around this error on another website.
At the first error hit SHIFT F10
    Type -
    Cd..
    Cd..
    Cd c:\windows\system32\oobe
    Msoobe
This should force the installation to continue
I don't really understand how it works but it while it forces the installation it seems to skip some essential things which make the installation unsuccessful later down the line.

Satellite L650 frozen at boot up. despite mc fee, a virus has stopped boot up. Stops at flashing cursor top left. can boot from recovery cd. BUT restore / recovery wont complete to any selected restore point though it goes through all the motions and then says at end, cant complete with error.
No toshiba hdd recovery option (ie to factory settings) is available in recovery console, or with recovery disk.
D Drive has all the recovery data ok as I can move aroud from c> prompt in dos to alldrives/ areas. Dont have own burned recovery disks. This happened quick .
NOW installed win 7 (64bit) in frustration from 'a' disk, works but all installed s/wareand toshiba drivers now useless . Bottom line, is there a patch to install or a work around that will allow access to reset to the factory settings with the data stored on disk/drive D. Normal methods of starting this process are not available

Can you please tell us which error was shown at the end of recovery installation?
Anyway, now after OS installation with non-Toshiba disc there is no way to start HDD recovery installation again and recovery image can be installed with Toshiba recovery DVD only.

To be honest your posting is a little bit confusing and I dont understand what you want to say with this sentence. If you have installed clean OS you must install all drivers and Toshiba stuff additionally. All of them are available on Toshiba download page.
If you have more questions please be clear and ask one by one so it will be easier to give answer to each of them.
