Satellite L650D-11E - no camera on Windows 8.1 64bit

Hi ,
I have a problem on a friends laptop regarding the web camera. Windows 8.1 64bit do not recognise it (USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE). I am aware that there are no drivers available although I did try installing the toshiba camera win7 64 bit utility ,in compability mode but as expected it did not help. Maybe it's dead but would like to try something.
So my question is ,what is the chipset of the web-camera? I need to find a similar 64bit driver and modify it to force windows loading it .Or could someone could point me where to download a proper driver (with *.inf file)?
Satellite L650D 11e (PSK1SE)
Thank you!

Hi
The Satellite L650D-11E has been equipped with the Toshiba 0.3M Pixcel Camera (MI-380)
But usually the Windows 8.1 does not need special webcam drivers. The system use own Microsoft driver in order to get the webcam recognized.
Anyway, fact is that this notebook series isnt Win 8.1 supported. :(
This means that Win 8.1 drivers were not released for this notebook model and doubt that you found find a Win 8.1 driver for this device.
But I googled for the USB\DEVICE_DESCRIPTOR_FAILURE and found out that the problem could be related to USB ports drivers. Fact is that the webcam is connected to an USB controller.
I would recommend you to uninstall all USB ports in device manager.
Then let the windows find and install the default drivers for USB ports.
Note: the chipset driver is an essential part to get the USB controllers working properly.

  • CAM for Windows vista ultimate 64bit

Hello can some one tell me what cam I should buy for my 64bit windows vista ultimate please,
i would like to buy a new cam and want one that will work with the 64 bit vista, please advise.

OK, you're looking for a webcam.
I admit I don't know what's supported by Vista64, but I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 and am very happy with it.  Since it's USB Video Class (UVC) compliant it may even have drivers built into Vista (not sure of this, I don't run Vista on any of my machines, just XP and Linux.)
Do some research on Logitech models and you should find some with good Vista64 support.

I have Satellite P850 - I renewed my Kaspersky Internet Security and did Windows update for 8.1 64bit. Now I have no Wireless LAN driver. I can only connect to internet with ethernet cable.
I have searched high and low for 2 days looking for a solution. I want to keep everything Toshiba authentic so not wanting to stray to other dodgy diagnostic sites. Toshiba only has Realtek WLAN for Windows 8 version 2.00.0020 available for download - which is already installed on my computer but it is not working - I did reinstall to see if that fixed the problem but no.

  • Problem with system recovery for a new hard drive in my Pavilion p6210y Windows 7 Premium 64bit

I decided to swap out  my hard drive when my computer would fail to start up or crash right after starting. Diagnostic tool at startup said the hard drive was faulty and other times I would get BIOHD-1 and BIOHD-2 errors. I replaced the old WD Caviar Blue 640GB with a new Caviar Green 1TB. I ordered and received from HP a system recovery disc set which included five discs labeled:
    Use This First! System Recovery,
    System Recovery 1:1,
    SYstem Recovery 1:3,
    System Recovery 2:3, and
    System Recovery 3:3.
After putting in the new hard drive I used the "Use This First!" disc and everything seemed to be going fine. The scene showed "Loading Windows" or something like that. After about 10 minutes the CD drive opened and the Monitor showed three images: a big green check mark which I assume meant everything was good up to that point; a graphic showing the removal of the first disc; and a graphic showing three discs to be put in. Wondering whether to put in the System Recovery 1:1 disc or the System Recovery 1:3 disc, I noticed that the drive bay closed with the "Use This First" disc still in. I managed to get the Drive to open after pressing the open button quite a few times. I closed it with the 1:3 disc and nothing happened (no light showing activity in the DVD drive). After a minute or so I managed to get the drive open again after quite a few times pressing the open button. I put in the 1:1 disc and still nothing. At this point I could only open the drive bay with a paper clip in the release hole. With the computer unresponsive and the monitor still showing the same as when the first disc came out, I decided to turn it off with the "Use this First!" disc in the drive hoping to start from the beginning again. Now the directions that came with the HP System Recovery discs state:
CAUTION: Do not turn off the computer, or use the keyboard or mouse during this time. Doing so will interrupt or damage the software installation.
Now when I turn the power on I get either:
the HP blue screen with the green hand, (F11=system recovery), (F9=Diagnostics), (F10=Setup) and (ESC=Boot Menu). pressing esc, F9, F10 or F11 does nothing.
Or the HP blue screen appears and then almost immediately goes to the black screen with " Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot media in select Boot device and press a key". I've gotten this scene while trying almost every System Recovery disc in the drive. Hitting a key does nothing other than repeating the same message.
Once I got a "The file is corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computer checksum" error. That appeared only once in about 30 try's.
The open DVD drive button works sometimes and not other times. I can't seem to figure out a pattern for when it will work.
I don't know whether I might have accidentally moved the mouse or hit the keyboard during the first attempt. Can I  do something to the new hard drive to get it back to a state where it can start from the beginning again? Might it be a problem other than the old hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, of course! See the link to your model's spec above.
My apologies. The previous link went to a spec for the Satellite A505-S6960 (which came with Windows Vista installed). I had too many spec pages open at the same time and got them mixed.
So, are you telling me that I won't get this one to work?(the BPKT)
No. But you may face the problems that I outlined in this message.

  • Satellite L650D-10J - Windows 7 won't start

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L650D-10J, Windows 7 64Bit, 4GB RAM and it won't start Windows 7. It starts and then you see Toshiba logo startup etc. and then it goes to black and it loads up Windows Bootmanager with the following message ;
+A problem to your computer occurred while communicating with a device that is connected.+
+This error may be caused by an external storage device such as an external USB drive, the device while in use, or damaged hardware such as a hard disk or CD-ROM drive disconnect that is damaged. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.+
+contact the hardware manufacturer if you still see this error.+
    +Status: 0xc00000e9+
    +Information: An unexpected I / O error occurred.+
(it was translated out of dutch so there are some sentences that aren't correct.)
I've tried downloading a Windows 7 recovery disc, burnt it on DVD. It works I'll get to choose to set it back when it was working correct (I get an error) or use a Windows 7 from disc (doesn't work). And if I start in safe mode I can see that it stops and freezes at file; disk.sys
    Anyone an idea?
    Greetings,

    Hello
And have you connected external USB device as the error message says? If yes remove all USB devices and try to start your notebook again.
Fact is if you cant start in safe mode your OS is muddled up and the only option to get rid of this is reinstalling Windows.
Are you using the preinstalled Windows 7 version from Toshiba? If yes go into advanced boot menu of Windows pressing F8 key where you can select safe mode, etc. and choose Repair my computer option. Then select Toshiba HDD recovery and factory settings will be restored. Also check this article about HDD recovery:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm
If HDD recovery doesnt work you need an original Toshiba recovery disk. If you didnt create this disk just order a new one here:

  • No web cam since windows 8 l505-s5988

I hope this is the best subforum for this (wasnt sure if this one or windows 8 subforum or another one).
I recently bought a really good Satellite l505-s5988 & had to put Windows 8 on it. Everything has seemed to work great except apparently the built in web cam is not getting recognized. When I went to device manager it only shows under imaging devices is a usb cam. I cant seem to find any drivers or info about it for if you are using windows 8. Any help please???
Thank you very much for your time & assistance.
P.S. I know at least before installing windows 8, it did work. Not sure about if it ever has since windows 8

Hmmmm. Oh and the problem is that in Device Manager the built-in webcam doesn't show up at all in imaging devcices! All that shows is a usb cam driver. When I go to Camera like you normally would, it looks like its starting up (because  has Camera Options, Change Camera, Timer, & Video icon buttons at bottom but it never loads a image or anything & then it says at top of page that There Is A Problem With The Camera.
This is the only thing we've had not work correctly so far on this with Windows 8 installed (which has been about a month & half of daily use. Other than this, this laptop runs EXCELLENT with 8 including when I go to PCpitstop & test it, it ranks in Everything in Top 40% at very lowest rating out of all the tests (most things rank much higher). We've been surprisingly impressed so far.

  • Re: Satellite L650D LAN not working after Win7 reinstallation

    Hello friends
i have a big problem with my notebook
I just reinstalled the windows 7 home premium and now i cant access to internet
There is an unknown device in my device manager
I have downloaded many drivers but non is working for LAN.
    Waiting for kind replies.
    Toshiba Satellite L650D System Unit.
    Model No: PSK1SA-03E014

    >... but i have a product key with my notebook a label containing windows 7 home premium product key.
Unfortunately this key is useless and you cannot use it for own OS activation. This key belongs to original preinstalled OS.
In my opinion you should now waste your time waiting for someone who can help. Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and order original Toshiba recovery disc. It costs a bit but you will have original OS and you can use this disc for OS installation anytime if something goes wrong with your OS.

  • Satellite L850D-12P: Need copy of Windows 8 to reinstall the OS

    Hi,
I have a Satellite L850D-12P and need a copy of windows 8 to reinstall the OS
I deleted all data on the HD inclding the recovery partiton, i dont fancy spening 30 ordering the disks and would like to download the
The macine orinally came with Windows 8 ....
    Thanks
    Jaz

I do not agree as customer support is good, its good... but idiot thing is we buyed the laptop from Toshiba, which is money minded,...if toshiba knows that after customer system drive is corrupted /erased accidently then no chance of getting the paid version of OS restoring...
    1. then why dont toshiba provided already a recovery CD before only..
    or
    2. they should have informed as pre-condition/pre-caution that if Hard Drive got erased then Toshiba cannot provide the product ID also which a customer is paying.
i think toshiba should should value the customers money also & should keep inform the customers unwanted loss with pruchasing toshiba... as I would have atleast prepared the Backup-restor CD if i was warned after purchasing....atleast..
As if i can purchase this laptop, then i can pruchase a CD also write & create a backup CD,,,, but as a customer will be unaware of these internal problemss... he will be facing this type of problems....

  • Satellite L650D battery does not charge

    Hello.
My notebook model is Toshiba Satellite L650D PSK1SE.
Recently I have updated my BIOS to v1.80, because there was a problem with installing Linux, which is solved in v1.80. Then I have encountered another problem - my notebook couldn't hibernate.
This problem suddenly disapperared after a few months, but then battery stopped charging.
When I plug in my notebook, Windows 7 says "Plugged in, Not charging, Percentage: N%".
Sorry, I can't write exactly what is the message because for me it's in Russian. But it's something like that. Ubuntu says that battery is OK and charging, but in fact it is not.
It starts charging when I deattach my battery and attach it back physically.
Toshiba PC Health Monitor says that me battery is OK. Also i've noticed that Eco Utility DO NOT WORK when this issue appears.
Usually this happens when I do not use notebook for a few days while it is in hibernation.
    That's all.
Sorry for bad english. Looking forward for your assistance.

    Hi
I cannot imagine that this problem might be related to the new BIOS
    But try this:
    - access the BIOS and set it to default (Press F9 to get default and save changes pressing F10)
    - shut down the notebook and disconnect the battery and ac adaptor
    - press and hold power button 30sec long.
    - connect the battery and ac adaptor and power up the unit
    - check if the battery can be charged.

  • IPod Touch Recognized as a Digital Camera in Windows 7 (x64) - SOLUTION!

    Hi guys
After several days I finally found the solution to this with some help from Apple 2nd level support.
Symptom: iPod Touch is not connecting to iTunes. Under My Computer you find the iPod as a Portable Device > Digital Camera
Cause: Windows 7 wasn't able to install the right Driver for your Touch.
    Solution:
    1. Uninstall all the Apple software via Control Panel:
    - iTunes
    - Quicktime
    - Apple Software Update
    - Apple Mobile Device Support
    - Bonjour
    - Apple Application Support
    2. Delete all the directories related to Apple (Including Apple,iPod, iTunes, Quicktime and Apple Computer -if they are there-) under:
    - C:\Program File\Apple
    - c:\Program Files (x86)
    - C:\users\<USER>\AppData\Local
    - C:\users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming
    3. Restart
    4. Reinstall iTunes (Right click and run as Administrator) but THIS IS THE TRICK!! change the installation path to C:\program files\iTunes (Remove x86) !
    5. Connect ipod
It will still be a Camera..don't worry..
    6. Go to My Computer > right click > Manage > Device Managers > Find your ipod under the Portable Devices
    7. Right Click > Update driver > Specific location and browse C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device support\Drivers
    8. After succesfully installed this driver you will be able to see your iPod Touch in iTunes
    Enjoy !

  • Satellite L650D-11D - How to connect to my TV?

    Hi everyone!
I'm the happy owner of a Satellite L650D-11D and I've been struggling lately to be able to connect my netbook to my TV (Hitachi). Both have the HDMI port but I can't manage to get it functioning so far.
Would you please have any tips and hints to help me?
Have a good day and thanks for taking some time to my request.
    Vi

    Hey,
I can recommend a little browsing throught the forum here because you will find hundreds of threads how to connect notebook with TV via HDMI cable.
I have used the forum searched here are some examples that I found:

  • Windows 8.1 64bit. Webcam works with "Camera" app ...

I've spent a few hours googling and trying out various things - all listed below. I give up - any ideas???
    OS: Windows 8.1 64bit
    Memory: 32GB
    WebCam: Microsoft VX-7000.
As per subject - the webcam works with the "Camera" app but not with Skype for desktop or for Modern UI (or the Microsoft Lifecam software for that matter).
    Already attempted:
    1) Uninstall webcam drivers - download latest from microsoft (Windows 7) and install in Windows 7 compatibility mode.
    2) Close (from taskmgr) anything that looks like it might use Webcam.
    3) Run Skype for Desktop in Windows 7 and 8 compatibility modes
None of the above work. In Skype for Modern UI the webcam doesn't appear in the drop down in Settings - so I can't even select it. In Skype for desktops (version 6.11.32.102) the webcam is found but instead of image I get "Can't start video. Try closing other programs that might be using your webcam".
I see from a bit of googling that various people seem to have the same issue (i.e. Webcam works with Camera app but not Skype) - so I'm hopeful someone has found a workaround / fix to this issue and I've just not had the googling skills to find it
    Thanks,
    - Matt Symes

I have 6 USB3.0/2.0 ports on the rear panel of the motherboard and the camera is connected to one of these.
I also have 2 USB 2.0/1.1 ports on the front panel of the PC connected to the motherboard (it's an old PC case!) I've tried using these with the webcam and there is no difference (i.e. works in "Camera" app - not in Skype)
TI've generated and attached the log file as requested.
Thanks for your assistance in this issue.

  • Satellite-A300-23E - Can I install Windows 7 Ultimate instead of Win7 Premium

    Hello,
I bought a TOSHIBA laptop which has the following model: Satellite-A300-23E (Operational system is Windows Vista Home Premium)
I know that TOSHIBA offers an upgrade to Windows 7 but the problem is that they will provide me with Windows 7 Home Premium which I don't want.
Thus, I'm thinking to buy a full version of Windows 7 Ultimate (DVD).
Will be there any technical/software problems in case I remove the original operational system of the laptop and install Windows 7 Ultimate ?
By the way, I used Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and the result was positive !
    Please, I need your help

You should try Vista's drivers, as I know, they are compatible:
    For Webcam try this one:
    http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/webcam-en-20090422172230.zip
For touchpad, there are 2 drivers:
    Alps http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-en-20090320124756.zip
    Synaptics http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/tpdrv-en-20090320132707.zip
talking about touchpad drivers, it can be Alps or Synaptics for your model, or can be both.

  • Satellite L650D-12P - Can I install a Linux distribution on it?

    Hi.
5 months ago, I probably made one of my biggest mistakes; I bought a Satellite L650D-12P. To my horror, I discovered the inability of the computer, to use or even install Linux of any kind.
Since I bought it, I've tried about 4 times a month, to install Linux, to no avail. I've tried searching through Linux forums, tried several tweaks, etc. The Insyde H2O BIOS of the L650D-12P just doesn't work with any distro, the newest BIOS (which were released 6 months ago) doesn't change anything, either. The ACPI is totally off, the DSDT tables are corrupt. Other people report of general ACPI problems with Toshiba machines; it seems I am not the only one.
Is this how it's supposed to be? The customer is refused the right, to use the operating system he wishes? Are we forced to use only Microsoft products? Even Apple machines can install other operating systems.
I thought the age of forcing software upon people were long gone. Alas, it is not.

    Hello Kesse,
I have been able to install Ubuntu on my Toasiba satellite L650D
    Ubuntu 10.04
On the purple screen press any key
    Press F6
    Press escape
    now press Tab and add
    pcie_aspm=off
Hit enter and be patient, it worked for me.
Same procedure with Ubuntu10.10 and 11.04
    But before you reboot:
    open gedit in terminal
Edit the file /etc/default/grub insert pcie_aspm=off as boot option
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash pcie_aspm=off
save and recompile grub.cfg with the command:
    sudo update-grub
    Good luck.
