Satellite L670 19E low level background noise

Recently purchsed an L670, downgraded it from windows 7 to Xp and now find that there is a very low level noise being emitted through headphones which seems to be associated with hard drive background operation, can anyone suggest how i can fix it its driving me mad!

Did you notice this noise coming from speakers too or just using the headphones?
To be honest its hard to say what could cause this
Maybe you should change some settings in sound option
Decrease the mic and other controls for testing purposes...

Background Noise Removal Levels Changed to 50%

I've repeatedly encountered an unpleasant problem with the Background Noise Removal feature in Final Cut Pro X, both in 10.0.0 and 10.0.1. If I turn Background Noise Removal on for a clip in the Timeline, and adjust the level to something other than the default of 50% (which creates squarium-like sound - I can't think when such a high setting would be appropriate), I eventually find that FCPX has thrown away all my levels and changed the level to 50% on all clips for which I have enabled Noise Removal. I haven't yet figured out what action makes FCPX throw away my levels (simply quitting and starting again doesn't do it); but this has happened to me repeatedly over the course of the last three months. I've not been able to get satisfactory improvements to audio using the Audio Enhancements. The Hum removal always sounds like reverb is added. The Noise Reduction leaves so much to be desired. And, I'm not sure I understand how to use the "Loudness" effectively (it's never been an effect I've used extensively in Logic or STP — there are much better ways to "master" audio and I *prefer* Multipressor [also in FCPX]).
I use Effects > Audio > Levels > Logic > Adaptive Limiter to lower the noise floor and increase the gain for a quasi – noise reduction (there is also a "Noise Gate" effect for this -- a little trickier) and I can notch out frequency band noises with Channel or Linear Phase EQ. But quite frankly, the very best noise reduction I've ever heard in nearly 20 years of searching is in ScreenFlow. You don't have to use it as a screen capture software, it can be used to "add in" audio/video (New Empty Document) and (phenomenal) noise reduction can be had by *just* turning on Filter: "Remove Background Noise". Any "digital artifacts" are virtually imperceptible (and that's at their default setting of 80%!!). After bringing that audio into FCPX, any "enhancements" is just flat out *for fun*. Apple really needs to license or buy Telestream's noise reduction software. [Export options out of ScreenFlow include ProRes and AIFF/LinearPCM... among others.]
One more thing about the Audio Effects in FCPX: YOU CAN SAVE YOUR SETTINGS AS PRESETS!!!! You can't even do that with video effects!!!!! Almost every audio effect has a Presets: menu and at the very bottom is Save Preset.
For most categories, there are: the Final Cut effects; Logic effects; and Mac OS X effects (these are basically the same as you would find in Garageband) --- stay with the Logic effects!

Satellite L670 cpu fan noise

As I sit in front of my new L670 laptop, from the left end of the keyboard comes a frequent whirring up and down sound that i'm pretty sure is the CPU fan
(not the HD).
How much of this is too much? I find it disturbing.There's no sound like it from my 1 year old Toshiba. The temperature of the room is a constant 20degrees, so it isn't overheating.
And it does it even when sitting idle with only the Windows7 screen up ie no software activity going on at all.
I'm worried this is a defective computer. It's 2 days old (to me) - purchased brand new. Still could take it back.
Grateful for any thoughts.

I also have a Satellite L670 and have the same fan problem.
I bought this laptop 1 month ago and the problem was there from the begining. I have already set all the possible parameters to lower power consumption, and I set the CPUs to run between 1% and 50% of their maximum frequency. The problem is still the same. The problem does not come from the user nor the settings, but from the laptop itself.
IMO the problem is that this laptop refuses to set fan speed at e.g. 25%, 50%, or 75% of its maximum speed, depending on the temperature. The fan is either off (silent) or runs at full speed (too noisy). That is NOT a normal nor optimal behavior and Toshiba should fix it (BIOS update?).
I tried speedfan but it could not change the fan speed.
My other laptop, a cheap brand machine which I have been using almost everyday for over 5 years, is much quieter. When using a lot of CPU the fan will indeed make some noise, but that seldom happens in normal use and most of the time the fan runs at low speed and is barely noticeable.
Any solution to this problem would be greatly appreciated!

PrE has a few Effects, that might help, but an Audio-editing program is much, much better. I use Adobe Audition, but the free Audacity is pretty handy.

PCMCIA Low Level Control - Satellite 5100

Hi to all,
I've an important question, my PC (Satellite 5100-503) does not works properly for PCMCIA slot when I want to controll it at low level by means Jungo Drivers (writing and reading of a particular address space for Compact Flash Card device), for others LAP TOP PC (HP) my program works properly.
The question is: do you know if this is a known problem and what driver or ather solutions you propose to solve my problem?

I cant give you a proper solution because Im not familiar with this Jungo Drivers.
But why did you use these drivers? Why did you not use the Toshiba drivers which will work properly?

1.2 vindicates low-level noise removal clamor

So... the newly released Lr-1.2/ACR-4.2 proves that the claims raised in this Forum (and the ACR forum), re the low-level noise reduction issue must have been correct, as there has been a change in 1.2. Thanks Thomas! :)
I can see an improvement. The images lost that somewhat pixelated look the 1.1 output had.
At one point I agreed with Jeff that the problem was not an issue in print if the image was properly sharpened for print. But, nevertheless, my images on-screen look better now. So I look forward to doing soon some test prints (with proper sharpening) and I would not be surprised if they look even better in print. :)

Thanks for the note. Your mention of "... the next major upgrade may hold even more interesting changes..." is very encouraging. I am thankful and impressed with the quick fix that the ACR team (Thomas) managed to implement, without having to add controls to the user interface. It is very clear that the Camera Raw team does indeed listen to input and constructive criticism and I, for one, really do appreciate the efforts made to come up with the current compromise between the old and new algorithms.
For those who preferred the ACR v1.1 default NR processing, are you aware of what setting to use in the luminance NR slider in ACR v4.2/LR v1.2 which would be the closest match to the ACR v4.1/LR v1.1 zero setting?
With regards to (not) seeing these micro-detail / micro-smoothing issues in print, I recall that you made a point in a recent post somewhere, IIRC, of not being able to see these issues on 300-480 ppi prints on a 2880 dpi printer, and of course I agree 100% with that statement. What many of us have said though, is that when making a large print where the source file might drop down to 100-120 ppi, or that in combination with cropping, upsampling and sharpening, well that is where one could see the problems upon close examination of the final large print. In other words, where the print ppi begins to approach the ppi of an average computer monitor, that is when the issues became apparent and not, of course, on most smaller prints as you described.
In any case, seeing the improvements made by the Camera Raw team has certainly helped to reduce my anxiety levels a little... although family issues are still conspiring to keep them high. At least now I can be reasonably confident that I can continue on using that wonderful tool, "Lightroom"... :-)

Happy to help out with the sound issue. Try the following steps:
1: Go into your Control Panel
2: Go into Sound
3: Select the Recording tab
4: Select your headset / microphone
5: Click on Properties in lower right
6: In Properties click on the Level tab
7: Turn down the Microphone boost
8: Click on the Microphone Enhancements tab
9: Check both the Noise Cancellation and Acoustic Echo Cancellation

D200 background noise

Hi,
Have a brand new D200 and I noticed a background noise ('white' noise).
It is a low level noise, unnoticiable while you're listening music, but between songs or in quiet moments,
the noise is perfectly audible and annoying.
The noise level is constant and independent from volume setting or input used (same with BT or Line-In).
If I lower the volume to the minimum (muted, no sound at all) the noise disapears.
Pressing just once the 'volume +' button makes the noise reappears.
Does someone experienced the same problem ?...Any suggestions ?

Low Level Recordings

I'm using Garageband, Skype, Soundflower and Linein to record. I've got all my levels up but my audio is very low and I have to use the EQ to increase the audio.
I opened a new song and tested just a standard setup with just my mic and it's fine. I know there's probably a setting some where, just can't figure it out.

Have you read the A4 user's guide and connected the instrument through Line-In /Mic (found in I/O Console) and adjusted the gain from there. If you have conneceted the guitar directly into I/O console Line/Mic input ... don't expect good results because of, you normally need a pre-amp w/ devices w/o Hi-Z inputs (and there is no Hi-Z input in A4Pro).
Which software are you using for recording?
Also, when you record, do you get the recording level set to ~0dB (by the meters found in your recording software). If not then the signal is not gained enough --> you need pre-amp then since gaining w/ software (this is possible) brings you some other issues as like background noises.
If you try this (when not using ASIO device drivers in your software)
- set the Gain level in I/O console at 75%-00%,
- Source level and Recording Source level to 50% in surround mixer
- adjust the final level using both source/recording source level sliders found in surround mixer
W/ ASIO you set the recording level through recording software. Also, ASIO gives better input/output levels.

Also, before I had a Amilo Xi 2550-8009 that melt last week, I changed it for this Toshiba, but I am facing a problem with a game ARMA II.
The error message I got is : "Error compiling pixel shader", with black screen and a "ping" noise.
I don't understand because I found a comparative test with a GeForce and my current HD5650 that is supposed to support this shader stuff.
Did you manage to run ARMA II on your laptop ? If yes, what did I miss ?

It might come from those damned update I did.... The last one is about the video card on the pilot update through driver device, right click, update.
I was surprised he did it, but, I suspect I had a BDO before that, can't remember.
Then... Still trying to identify the reason, I might go back to the older pilot version.

Amazing, because this game ran on my Amilo xi 2550-8009 and a ATI Radeon HD 2700 256 Mo.
And Arma II Operation Arrowhead didn't show this error message, but, didn't run so well even with low graphic option,I just downloaded a ultimate patch v1.59, to be followed.

Reduce background noise and increase audio volume?

Hi!
I have a movie with very bad static/background noise and low volume. I've been playing around the NewBlue cleaner AB, but I have yet to get a satisfactory results. Any hints/tips that might help me out? Or is it not powerful enough to get a good result?
Also, I've noticed the volume becomes even lower after running the filter.
How do I adjust the "clip volume" in edit effects past 6dB? If this is not possible, why?

Well, increasing the audio volume is easy. But doing it without also increasing your background noise is much harder. In fact, unless it's of a specific frequency that you can filter out, it's pretty much impossible. That's why a lot of Hollywood movies and TV shows have to "loop" or re-record dialogue for a scene if there was too much wind or background noise.
The easiest way to raise a clip's audio level is to click on it and select Audo Gain, and then increase the gain level.
This, though, won't get rid of the background noise.

Satellite L670-1JN - Fan activity and temperature

Hello,
When my Satellite L670-1JN is not in sleep mode and when no application is running (only OS) with an ambiant temp 20C at wich temperaure approximately must be the processor?
At which temperature fan start and stop?
Power mode selected is normal with optimization of performance, with the power adapter.

Yes fan activity is control automatically but when my laptop is not in sleep mode and when no application is running (only OS) fan stop(30s) cpu temp increase from 36% to 40% and fan run(30s at 55%) temp decrease from 40% to 36%.
For this I used Health Monitor delivered with PC. Temps ig given in % so i can't know temperature in C.
Is it normal? ambiant temp is 20C.
It's noisy.
I will prefer to have fan continuously on at lower speed.
Is it possible to change setting of fan and temperature except by changing the cooling method in Windows Power Management to battery optimized.
In this case noise increase fan stop(60s) cpu temp increase from 32% to 40% and fan run(60s at 90%) temp decrease from 40% to 32%.
My PC is newer I have not yet install other application so only OS is running.

Issue in determining Low level codes

Hi Gurus,
We are having an issue running heuristics when running along with Temporary low level codes. We are in SCM 7.0 environment.
The SNP Heuristics jobs are failing with this message "Low-level code
not available for product XXXXXXX at location XXXX
Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE"
Also, the message in the job log for the product in was flagged for deletion and I am not too sure why is this being picked up for processing and then failing?
I tried using SDP relevance as '1' for the product flagged for deletion for testing purposes and then the program is not considering this SKU, but stopping at another SKU and also that SKU is flagged for deletion. But the flip side of using SDP relevance is that that setting is at global level andmay have issues where the SKU is active.
I have couple questions:
1) Is there a way for the program to skip the code which has an error and move forward instead of failing the job? and provide a spool with error codes.Also, to provide the LLC number for all the correct SKU's instead of failing at that point and not generating the LLC's?
2) Why is the program also considering the codes which are flagged for deletion which should not be the case?
Also, I tried another way of maintaining the codes in thevariant which are not flagged for deletion and tried running heuristics in the background but failed at a point and it gave a message stating Low-level code not available for product XXXXXXX at location XXXX, Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE
But the product which was displayed in the job log is an active SKU. I am not too sure why the job failed with this error?
I tried running that individual SKU in the background including the temporary determination of LLC, it was successful. I am not too sure why it failed when it was a part of selection?
Any suggestions, would really help us a lot.

Hi Datta - Thanks for the replies. I was able to have a workaround by using selection profiles excluding the Procurement type 'P' and it worked.
At our client, whenever a product is made 'non-X0' in ECC, procurement type is set to 'P' and by excluding that piece in the variant I was able to continue with my processing.
But still, don't you think the products which are flagged for deletion shouldn't be picked up heuristics?

Filtering background noise using two microphones

Hi,
I am new to Labview so please bear with me. I am trying to work out the sound vibration level emitted from a compressor. I have a microphone placed next to it but it is operating in a noisy laboratory and therefore I need to filter out the background noise.
I have another microphone to record the background noise. I think I might need to use an adaptive noise cancellation filter but cannot figure out how to make one on Labview. I have tried simply inputting the two signals and subtracting them but get an error saying "Resource requested by this task has already been reserved by a different task" when trying to run it.
Basically I am looking for the simplest way to get rid of the background noise in real time or in processing the signals afterwards.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please ask if you need more information.

An ax (also spelled axe) is a tool for chopping down trees. I was trying to make a joke. Like some other experienced LabVIEW programmers, I do not like the Dynamic Data Type because it hides the structure of the data contained within it.
The subtraction technique is standard and simple. The biggest issue is phase shift. Suppose the two microphones are 1 meter apart. A sound arriving on the line through the microphones will arrive 3 milliseconds later at one than at the other. Sound arriving along a line at right angles to the line through the microphones and equidistant from both will arrive at the same time at each. At other angles the time will vary between those values. Compensating for that delay or phase shift is necessary to get good cancellation.
In addition the amplitude of the signals at each microphone will vary inversely as the square of the distance between the source and the microphone. For sources much closer to one microphone the amplitude difference can be significant.
Directional microphones will further complicate the amplitude variations. I think that two microphones are not enough to provide unambiguous determination of the direction of an unknown source, especially when there are multiple sources.

Removing background noise from captured clip

I wanted to edit an audio which was captured with Video also it contains some background noise.Which filter should I try for this in FCP.

I read that tutorial it is nice but I have only Final Cut Pro 4.5 HD not the SoundTrack Pro is there no option in FCP for editing audio I do not have much to edit I have to remove sound of a crow and in another video captured audio is having sound very low without increasing volume it is not possible to listen to it.
So for this any thing that can be done within FCP.
I have only Soundtrack 1.2 which is not professional version.
