Satellite L755 - after Win 8.1 upgrade cannot use FN+F8
Hi Sirs;
After I update my laptop Toshiba Satellite L755 to Windows 8.1 and when I press FN+F8 to off or on the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth it is not working.
I removed VAP then system driver and then functions key utility and re installing it not Success to turn of,
please any advice?
Windows 8.1 does NOT support the Value Added Package anymore!
The VAP was released for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 Upgrade
Notebooks which were preinstalled with Win 8 do not contain VAP anymore!
But the Satellite L755 does not seem to be Win 8.1 supported.
So you will be lucky man if you will get these function buttons working.
I can recommend you to check the Win 8.1 driver released for Satellite L855 series.
Install the Toshiba Function Key Utility and Toshiba System Driver
Maybe it would help

After the iOS6 update I cannot use messages on my iPad2 anymore. To not any person on my contact list. The message will not send.
On your phone. Go to itunes, find the tone and it should have a little download sign next to it, not a money amount sign. Just re-download it. On your iTunes on your computer, check to make sure you have the "Sync tones" box checked.

Satellite P850-31L thinks Intel HD GPU driver is old after Win 8.1 upgrade
Hi there,
I have had my Satellite P850-31L since last year and recently updated to windows 8.1.
This laptop has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics card and it use to say that on my dxdiag.
Since updating to windows 8.1 my laptop seems to think I have a Intel HD Graphics 4000 and apparently it's out of date.
When I go on their site to test for the update.
I got told my graphics card is 'up to date' yet every thing else - including my toshiba driver manager says it's out of date.
I've tried updating yet I keep getting a message saying my system setting aren't good enough.
Anyne got any suggestions on what i can do.
Can I get my laptop to stop thinking it has a intel graphics when it has the NVIDEA chip> defterniko
After Windows 8.1 upgrade you should visit the Toshiba EU driver page and should update the drivers and utilities to the Windows 8.1 version.
Most people forget to do that they update the system from Windows 8 to Win 8.1 but dont update the drivers.
As mentioned by user IronMan; the installation instruction which is available on the Toshiba EU driver page shows you the driver and tool which needs to be updated and you should also follow the installation order mentioned in this instruction. -
Cannot get to dual-boot screen after Win 8.1 upgrade
Hello,
I have an iMac with Mavericks. Recently installed Win 8 to dual-boot. Instrux then were to hold OPT button during startup to be presented with options for OS with which to boot.
Since Win 8.1 upgrade there is no way to get to that prompt. MS/Win help topics not useful (unsurprisingly). I have the original install disk but would far prefer to save my current config of Mav. Thoughts for workaround?
Cheers,
Michael Cholding down option key at bootup not giving you the bootmenu have nothing to do with win8.1
even if one never installed anything in terms bootcamp at all then holding down the option key should give the option between osx and the restore to last clean osx version
if you don't get the option then I'd say the cause is not windows as the menu is handled by the bootloader which is before windows takes over -
Satellite L875-12J: Win 8.1 upgrade - FN brightness key not operating
After Windows 8.1 upgrade the Function keys for brightness are not operating.
I've downloaded and installed all new software including that for the function keys without result.
Brightness is not working in power plans or in change pc seetings.
PS. Followed also the installation order file for Win 8.1 update.
Would appeciate any help.
Model: Satellite L875-12J
Cheers Tasos> hey work but you have to push the FN key,
This special key function can be changed in the BIOS.
The point is that you can use the function key pressing FN key or without pressing the FN key
But this has to be enabled in BIOS.
Go to +BIOS -> Advanced -> System Configuration+
There you can find the *special function key mode.* -
An update from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro has occurred automatically on one of my machines.
Prior to the upgrade (from memory) the machine had an OEM Partition (40MB), EFI System Partition (500MB), Recovery Partition (8.17GB) and OS (C:) partition. Only the latter was visible in Computer.
After the 8.1 upgrade there are two additional partitions, Recovery (500MB) and Recovery (450MB). All the partitions are now displayed in This PC as drives except the 40MB OEM Partition.
When viewed in This PC both the two new drives (that appear to equate to the new partitions) show as 499MB each with the same amount of free space. In Disk Management the first new partition is shown as 500MB and the second as 450MB.
I have SugarSync installed on this machine and since the upgrade it is displaying an error telling me it won't work because the two new drives have the same Volume Serial Numbers.
Clearly something has gone wrong with the upgrade:
Is there any way to resolve the Volume Serial Number conflict?
Is there any way to stop all these drives appearing in This PC?
Do I need the two new partitions and if not how can I get rid of them? There is a fourth path to upgrading to Windows 8.1 provided by Microsoft. Microsoft have been displaying automated reminders from time to time on Windows 8 computers that Windows 8.1 update is available to download - from these reminders it is possible to
choose either Install or Not Now. Just recently these reminders have changed, they are instead notifying the user that the Windows 8.1 Update will be installed automatically or the user has options to postpone the installation for 1hr, 2hrs, etc. The
user of this computer tells me she went away from the machine and Windows 8.1 update installed automatically from one of these prompts.
I have seen these installation prompts on several of my customer's computers and they are not malware related (I deal with malware removal every day and would recognise this). However, I have scanned this computer with Bit Defender and MalwareBytes and there
are no infections present.
The only difference between this Windows 8.1 Update and the others that I have carried out is that it wasn't controlled and therefore I wasn't able to disable the security software (Bit Defender Internet Security 2015). This may be the cause of the problem.
I've uploaded the two screenshots you asked for - the two new drives are W: and Z: and SugarSync is reporting that they have the same Volume Serial Numbers. Note: X: and Y: were not visible prior to the upgrade.
There are two Windows Update logs at C:\Windows\ so I will upload both. -
Satellite P870 - WiFi issues after Win 8.1 upgrade
Internet through wireless is hopeless.
Maybe 3 in 10 pages will load correctly or not at all, mostly not at all.
Other wireless devices in the house are fine, as is using the Ethernet .
Checked the drivers through the device manager, says they are up to date.
However using the toshiba service station it lists 12 updates including one for the Realtek wireless driver.
The date of release definitely after the current installed version.
Trying to update through the service centre it completes and then comes up with an error message, something like process ended by the user.
Of course I never ended anything.
Any ideas/thoughts? Just uninstall 8.1?
Though I would rather not.Hi
Did you follow the Win 8.1 installation instruction?

Satellite P845t-10G does not go to sleep closing lid after Win 8.1 upgrade
Hi,
I own a P845t-10g and since I upgraded to Win 8.1 the laptop does not go to sleep (or shut down) when closing the lid.
However, when opening the lid, it wakes from sleep mode.
I tried installing latest Toshiba systems settings utility and all updates on the support site.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks!Did you check the option called: What closing the lid does?
Click on the 'Power Options' icon in taskbar (or in control panel).
Then click 'More power options'. Now a new windows will open. On the left side panel click on 'What closing the lid does'.
Now you will see two possible mode: battery and plugged in. For each mode you can set the action for closing the lid.
BUT one question: did you upgrade the Win 8.1 following the instruction from Toshiba?
http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/ Did you install all the Toshiba Windows 8.1 drivers and utilities in the right order!? -
New Portege Z10T cannot see Sierra/4G card after Win 8.1 Upgrade
Hi All,
I purchased a brand new Toshiba Z10T Core i5 00M001 model from Telstra last night. When I got it, it had a connection "Telstra" which linked to the internal 4g card. This was tested and working on the standard Windows 8 install as provided from the get go.
I proceeded to run Windows update on the stock Win8 install, which installed some 900MB of updates. Following this I installed the recommended Windows 8.1 update. Once this had completed, the laptop rebooted a few times, and as one of the final steps it wanted to connect to the internet to complete it's configuration (I presume download my profile from Microsoft) AT THIS STAGE I had the "Telstra" connection available to me and I used that connection to download the profile (it even smsed me a confirmation code).
Following this however, the "Telstra" connection disappeared, and the Sierra Wireless card is now nowhere to be found on the unit. I've tried connecting to a wireless network and running Windows Update (I'm up to date) and your support website does not have a specific driver available for the wireless card on Windows 8.1
Can you please suggest how I might go about getting the 4g connection on the unit working again. It's one of the pivotal reasons I invested in this tablet and I do not wish to roll back to Windows 8.
Cheers,
JoshHi,
I ended up solving this by running the firmware upgrade recommended for Windows 8 (not 8.1).
After I ran the firmware upgrade, the 4g card appeared again.
Cheers,

After Win 8.1 upgrade, Acrobat 9 Pro suddenly won't run
I have Web Premium CS4, and Acrobat Pro v. 9.5.5. I bought a new Window 8.0 computer 90 days ago, installed the suite, activated, and everything ran fine. Yesterday, I upgraded to Win 8.1. Now, when I open Acrobat Pro, I get a pop-up message saying that it was installed as part of a suite, and to open another program in the suite first. When I click OK, Acrobat closes. I have tried opening nearly every other program in the suite (Bridge, Flash, Photoshop 64-bit), they run OK, but Acrobat will still not run, and there are no activation messages. I checked my Adobe account, and my version of Acrobat Pro 9 is still listed, with serial number.
I'm very disappointed, as I use Acrobat Pro quite a bit, and currently it will not stay open at all. Other than telephoning Adobe for help (no free support # listed), or using on-line chat (no link available), or e-mailing them (no address listed)...what can I do to "activate" it?
I've tried opening Acrobat Distiller and get the same message, but when I close it, I see a brief flash of what appears to be an input box with activation stuff. It only appears for half-a-second, so I cannot do anything with it.Bill, thanks for that info. I don't think I would ever expect to get any support from Adobe on these programs, since I stopped buying revisions after CS4. I was surprised that I was even able to successfully install the CS4 Web suite onto Win 8.0, and Win 8.1 probably adds another couple hundred million lines of redundant code from our friends in Bill Gates-Land.
However, my A-Pro9 problem did resolve unexpectedly! I tried opening all the suite's programs, one at a time, and then Acrobat, with no luck. Then I realized that the suite had installed both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Photoshop (I use the 64-bit version) onto my new 64-bit computer. So, when I opened the *32-bit Photoshop* for a minute, closed it, and re-opened Acrobat 9, it went back to working normally. I'll take it!

Can't Create USB Recovery Drive after Win 8.1 upgrade on Lenovo Twist
After upgrading to Win 8.1 and trying to create the usb recovery drive, I get this error:
"We can't create a reccovery drive on this PC. Some required files are missing. To trouble shoot problems when your PC starts, use your window installation disk or media"
Can some give me a hint as to how to solve this?Thx.
Solved!
Go to Solution.I contacted Lenovo who sent me out a set of 4 Recovery disks. These disks fixed the problem but it meant wiping out the hard drive and reinstalling very thing from scratch. A new recovery partition is created and the discs reinstalled Win 8 which had to be updated. Then Win 8.1 could be installed. Everything is now working as it should.

This has become extremely annoying. I upgraded to Win 8.1 after I bought the X2 just before Christmas. if I leave the X2 for just a few minutes, it will either go into sleep mode or just completely shut down (no way to know which it will do and how long it will take). In any event, it has to be "hard booted", in the sleep case, holding the on/off button down until it shuts off and then restarting, in the "just off" case, just pressing the on/off button to start it again.
In either case, tons of crap regarding all of the applications - Explorer, Word, Excel, Chrome, Outlook, that had to be shut down (unexpectedly).
I did not change the power scheme and it has been reset (probably more than once) to try and correct the problem.
Thanks for anyone that can help me solve this really annoying problem.Hi SSteveX2,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I can imagine that would be a frustrating with the random shutdowns. How long do you have it set before it goes to sleep? There are a couple of things to check. Start by running a System File Check to see if encounters any corrupt files. Another option is the using the HP Diagnostic Tools to see if it discovers any issues with your hardware. Run the System Test – Extensive Test.

ThinkVantage Active Protection System Dissapeared after Win 8.1 Upgrade
The ThinkVantage Active Protection System dissapeared from my ThinkPads after upgrading to Win 8.1.
I was going to reinstall it from the Lenovo ThinkVantage page but the Win 8 64bit version is not available for download.
Oddly enough, the 32bit version is available.
Is this a temporary situation? Will there be a Win 8.1 version?
Can someone from Lenovo explain what to expect?

Display driver doesn't work after Win 8.1 upgrade
I have just upgraded my laptop's operating system from Win 7 Premium to Win 8.1 Enterprise.
After the upgrade, my display driver Intel HD graphics 3000 seemed to have stopped working. PC had got stuck on 1024 x 768 resolution.
I tried downloading Intel HD graphics 3000 from HP support "hp.com/in", but it was only compatible for Win 7 x86 and x64. Then searched on Intel website "downloadcenter.intel.com", I could see Intel graphic driver only for 2nd generation cores(i3, i5, i7), unfortnately mine was a first gen core i5 (i5-2430M). I also downloaded Intel(R) driver update utility 2.0 which is a auto drivers detect tool from Intel. It searched for missing display drivers, downloaded and installed, but still it is not a perfect match for my system.
I have been missing my laptop's high resolution quality for the past few days and its like going through hell. Any help from you ladies and gentlemen of HP or any computer experts will be much appreciated. Thank You.
I will provide my laptop specs below:
Product name: HP Pavilion dv6-6154TX
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @2.40 GHz 2.40 GHz
Max screen resolution: 1366 x 768

System type: 32 bit operating system, x64 based processor
Display drivers: Intel(R) HD graphics 3000, AMD Radeon HD 7400M series.
Direct X version : DX 11
I am not sure whether, I have provided all the info necessary for you guys to assess. But i can put on any more info if you need.
Once again, I thank you very much for your time in reading and the help you would provide.
~DineshHi @dinesh_kumar ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-6154tx Entertainment Notebook and downloading Windows 8.1 Enterprise. This is not compatible with Windows 7 Home Premium with 64 Bit. Here is a link to the Windows 8.1 upgrade assistant.
Here is a link to system requirements from Windows for Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
Hope this helps.
