Satellite L850 - after WIn8.1 update WLAN indicator lamp is always on

After updating from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 the amber wireless indicator lamp is always on, even if wireless function is off.
The key to turn airplane mode on or off doesn't work.
Wireless is working anyway perfectly and turned on or off with the mouse.
Is there a solution to make it work as before the updating?
Thanks

  • Satellite L850 - after 1 year of usage battery runs out quickly

Hi, through programs such as care or BatteryBar battery battery I see a Toshiba Satellite L850 *battery wear from 48%* currently. I notice that playing a game the battery runs out quickly, as the warm up by a lot, and often descalibra and behaves erratically.
The laptop is a year old. Is it normal for the battery to wear so much in so little time?
Would you accept a guarantee or battery replacement can claim wear caused by misuse?
    http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/6976/4f7k.jpg

First of all you have to know that battery working time depends on the notebook usage.
Running heavy performance applications like a game would discharge the battery much quickly. Why? Because parts like GPU and CPU and cooling modules run at highest performance and this needs power.
Also using the notebook with highest display brightness would discharge the battery faster.
You should also know that every battery would start to loose own performance after about 500 charging cycles. This is nothing unusual and will happen to all batteries.
To avoid or to slow down this process, its recommended to calibrate the battery from time to time.
Calibrating means charging and discharging the battery fully.
Charge the battery until it would be fully charged, then disconnect the AC adaptor and keep the battery discharging until its fully empty. Repeat this procedure 2-3 times in the row.

  • Windows partition unmountable after Win8.1 update

I've run into an interesting snag after running the Windows 8.1 update on my MacBook Pro 7,1.
After installing the update, OSX no longer recognizes the Windows partition on the drive. I can't mount it or access any files, but when I access the Boot Camp menu when I boot I can see the Windows drive there.
However, booting to it had become impossible. Either I can't get to it at all (Freezes at the boot menu), or Windows will crash after about 5 seconds into it's boot process.
Has anyone else run into this issue?
I realize that my model of MacBook Pro is technically not supported for Windows 8 installs, but Windows 8.0 ran (relatively) bug free, whereas 8.1 will not boot at all.

I also cannot see my Bootcamp disk when in Mac OS, after an upgrade to Win 8.1. Everything else seems to work fine though.

  • Satellite L850 with broken BIOS update

Hello! I'm posting here because I'm desperate. I have a Satelitte L850-1PD (EU model - please don't say me I can't write here beacuse is an EU model, I'm sure that I'll get better support here than EU support forums). I recently update laptop BIOS to v6.80 (InsydeH2O UEFI) but after the restart process the laptot didn't boot. It only powers on and it doesn't show anything on the screen and it immediatly shuts down if I press power button again (here a video of what it does). I was Googling days looking for a solution and I've read of a recovery procedure that uses a USB stick to reflash the FD BIOS file, but I don't know the keys to start it and how the FD file has to be renamed.
Thank you in advnace for everyone who'll help me

  • Satellite L300 - after Win8 load DVD drive is not working

I have just loaded Windows 8 on my Satellite L300. The DVD no longer works with an error message 39 it says the driver is corrupt. Also external attached DVD's are not recognised. I cannot find a driver to reload.

If the TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator or TOSHIBA Disc Creator are installed on the HDD, there might be a issue between Win 8 and mentioned software
So uninstall these tools, then restart your PC using the Power-->Restart option in Windows 8. Your CD/DVD should be accessible now.

  • Satellite Pro L10: How to make WLAN status to be always ON?

We have Satellite Pro L10 laptops at school. The button on the front of the machines that allows you to disable the wirless network is a real pain because it is an extra thing to go wrongwhilst trying to get a laptop to access our school wireless network.
Is there anyway of disabling this button so that the laptops will always access avaialble wireless networks?

try removing the Wifi mini pci card and isolate pin 11 and 13 on the card with a small piece of tape or nail varnish. This worked for me in my satellite to force the card to be allways on. You can still disable it with the software though. You count the pins odd numbers on the top of the card (aerial connection side) and evens below. Dont forget the pin on its own on the left of the card (this being the number 1 pin) Hope this is some use to you and works.. :)

  • MY TOOLBAR IS SCREWED UP AGAIN AFTER A SECURITY "UPDATE"

After installing the update (with trepidation because something always gets screwed up while they are FIXING FIREFOX) my toolbar disappeared that contains the direction arrows and stuff like increase decrease font viewing size, cut, paste, copy, etc. So I posed a question here and someone gave me something to try which helped restore it, not as it was but close enough.
Today, it seems to have disappeared again but in reality the functions I customized it to have are still there its just that the search bar space allotment takes up the whole toolbar. So I tried to customize it and resize the space like used to be possible but now it seems that is no longer an option. So I'm back at square one with no toolbar which makes using my computer efficiently impossible. I'M FED UP WITH FIREFOX "HELPING" ME because it screws things up. I don't like microsoft explorer so I guess I'll have to find some other program. I used to like FIREFOX but now it is the bane of my existence - I'm moving on because Firefox is HELPING itself into being non-functional. Thanks for nothing.

    Regards

I have Satellite U940-103 and Ive done Win8.1 successfully. Everything works perfectly.
My only solution is: Win8.1 update must be done following Toshiba Win8.1 update instructions http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/ and installation instructions document that can be downloaded from Toshiba support and download page.
Have you installed all available Toshiba specific tools and utilities?

  • Satellite L850-1HP unable to configure downloaded Windows Update files

My laptop had issues from day one which were first the CD-ROM not opening, then the webcam and microphone turning off forever and not being able to be turned on again ever, and last but not least, this summer, my laptop would not connect to any WIFI network at all, it wouldn't even find one.
I went to the place where I bought it for support, they sent it for repairs, a week later, I get it back, it's been restored back to factory settings, everything seemed fine, CD ROM functional.. webcam and microphone too.
So I thought I'd check around and start tyding things up to my liking, then I realise that I need to download some updates from Windows Update, so I do, about 100+ updates needed, I start downloading them, but they don't download up until the 20th minute that it's stuck at 0%, which seemed shifty to me, because then it just jumped up to like 10% and progressed forward.
After downloading the updates, or so it said that it had, I restart the laptop in order to get them working and configured properly.
It didn't. After I clicked restart, it started shutting down, saying that it's configuring and at about 20-30% it rebooted, then it loaded up the same screen saying that it's configuring updates, then it says it failed and says that it's restoring data back to normal, which it never freaking does.
After about two hours of waiting for it to do anything at all, I reboot the PC, same stuff.
Reboot again but this time I restore things to factory settings once more, takes me about 1hr again with a complete wipe of data (of course the OS stays and toshiba apps too), set everything up, name and stuff, accept terms and conditions, blah blah, OS starts up, I check everything and restart.
After the restart, I decide to not configure anything until I've downloaded all the windows updates, so I do just that, BUT, I get the same error again, shifty-slow download of updates, restart and get the same message that it cannot configure updates, and the forever-long wait for the laptop to "restore" data back to normal, which it hasn't done, again.
I'm completely clueless as to what I should do, I've restored factory settings once more but this time I'll just wait for some feedback or try to do whatever I find on these forums that is useful.
    Please help.

    Hi
The Satellite L850-1HP was preinstalled with Win 8 64bit.
Do you have problems installing the Win 8 updates?
Usually you will get an error message if an update has failed.
Could you post this error message?

  • Incorrect processor drivers updated for Satellite L850-138 (PKSDLE)

Today i'm trying to update my processor drivers (2nd generation Intel i5 processor, i5-2450m), but updated drivers for this model AREN'T CORRECT, they're for 3rd generation Intel processors with Intel HD Graphics devices. It's impossible to update drivers of this model!
Repeat: Incorrect display drivers for intel processor with model Toshiba Satellite L850-138!!
It's very important to be solved soon!

    > Intel's setup was launched directly but it said my computer doesn't is compatible hardware
This is exactly what I meant you will not be able to install the driver by executing the exe file!
The driver need to be installed via device manager:
    1. Open Control Panel.
    2. In the upper left portion of the Control Panel dialog, click on the words "Classic View" to cause Control Panel to switch to Classic View mode.
    3. Double-click the Personalization icon, and - after the Personalization dialog appears - double-click the Display Settings option.
    4. Click the Advanced Settings button at the Display Settings dialog.
    5. At the Adapter tab of the Advanced Settings dialog, write down the exact name of the adapter type that is currently in use. This may be important in case you ever want to switch back to that driver.
    6. After jotting down the name of the existing adapter type, click Properties. If Windows asks for permission, click Continue.
    7. Click the Driver tab, and click the Update Driver button.
    8. Windows will ask whether you want to search automatically or browse for driver software. Choose the "Browse my computer for driver software" option.
    9. At the next dialog that appears, click the "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer" option.
    10. A list of video drivers will appear, and you should scroll down and select Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. Click Next after making the selection.
    11. Once Windows reports that it has successfully updated your driver software, you can click either Close and/or Ok as many times as you need to close all open Control Panel dialogs. If, during this process, Windows asks whether you want to restart your computer for the changes to take effect, click Yes.

  • Blank screen after display driver update Satellite Pro P200

I installed the latest ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 display driver (8.432, from the Toshiba site via Tempo) on my Satellite Pro P200 yesterday. On rebooting everything looks fine as far as the Windows Vista Business "Please wait ..." screen, but instead of displaying the login page I get a blank screen (with a mouse cursor that moves around as normal). All I can do at this point is power off, and I've run out of ideas on how to get any further.
    Things I've tried:
    # booting into safe mode, low-resolution video or last known good configuration all result in the same blank screen.
    # connecting to the system using remote desktop (to disable the driver) isn't possible because the system hasn't loaded the network drivers yet.
    # I can't revert to a restore point because Vista can't find any (I made a manual one after installing windows updates on a couple of days ago).
I can run a command prompt from the system recovery options and would prefer to use that to disable the driver +if+ I knew how before resorting to the more drastic options.
A web search (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ati+catalyst+vista+blank+screen&hl=en&sa= N) reveals that this has happened on a wide range of laptops with
previous releases of the driver, but none of the links I've looked at give a solution that's available to me.

No joy with an external screen so I bit the bullet and reinstalled from the product recovery disk. I tried expert mode to retain the data partition but that failed twice, so I had to restore it from the previous day's backup after doing a full reinstall. Two consolations, though.
    # It allowed me to increase the size of the data partition.
    # The display driver update worked fine on the fresh install.
Needless to say I've since found [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927525] which describes how you can disable a problem device driver (atikmdag in my case) from the system recovery command prompt :-(
Hopefully the instructions in there will help anybody who gets caught with similar problems.

  • Wlan error after a firmware update

Ok there seem to be many posts about this issue but i cannot find anything that seems to work for me.
I not to recently updated my N95 8Gb firmware to 20.0.16 and found that I was having errors with WPA on WLan, previously I had no such problem and the issue only occured after the firmware update.
to add some more info I am on a network with a linksys wrt300n
I have tried wep it works but dont want to compromise security.
All computers on the network are using wireless g and the key is definitely correct when entered
any help would be most appreciated

I don't have N95, but if the firmware is updated to latest version the wpa most likely wpa2. Having wpa in place of wep gives only very little added security for a determined hacker! It will only takes 30min to an hour to crack that. Security like that deter only the free net riders. Try if there is upgrade for your modem/router, its usualy the case. For home network wep or wpa sufficed.
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

  • Satellite L850 - Win8.1 won't let me install the chipset drivers

    Hi,
After i upgraded to windows 8.1 pro 64 bit from windows 8 64 bit (pre-installed), i figured that windows won't let me install the chipset drivers (downloaded from "toshiba site" for windows 8.1 pro 64 bit), but they remain with the windows drivers installed for them.
The device manager shows everything installed and properly using. Also, when the set up was running to install the chipset driver, it skipped most of them, to install only a missing driver (sadly haven't kept any screen to show). I tried to install using the device manager (either auto search or manually browsing in the pc the downloaded files from site), but it keeps saying that drivers are up to date (having drivers with version of 2006, when the latest on site are 2014). Any suggestion of what to do?
    Model name: Satellite L850-1MK
OS version: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 6.3.9600
    CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM cpu @ 2.4GHz
    GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7600M

Problem solved, after even a deeper google search, i found that if y make a shortcut and add to it a command (-OVERALL), it forcefully installs all components.

  • Catalyst drivers update for Satellite L850-150

    Hi,
I've bought a Toshiba Satellite L850-150 (AMD Radeon HD 7670M) 3 days ago and I don't know if getting angry with AMD for restricting their drivers or with Toshiba for not updating their own drivers.
Can you give me a technical reason for making your laptops incompatible with the generic AMD drivers?
I thought an AMD Radeon HD 7670M was an AMD Radeon HD 7670M in a Toshiba, in an ASUS, in an Acer, etc. If you do your laptops incompatible with other drivers, at least, mantain your own drivers up to date.

    > {quote:title=Silas wrote:}{quote}

Well, I have an other notebook from and I can update its ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 with AMD drivers.

    >Can you imagine you want to have more and more graphic performance using always newest driver. One day you smell burned graphic card.
The graphics card of my ASUS is in perfect state and it has 4 years, always with updated drivers. Come on, are you going to say to me that driver updates are dangerous to the hardware? I thought they were updated to improve performance and stability without risking the integrity of the hardware. What you are saying is a stupidity, why updating drivers would be harmful to hardware?
Overclocking is dangerous and can burn my graphics card, but I'm talking about drivers, UPDATED DRIVERS, to make the hardware work better (performance and security).
