Satellite L850 doesn't boot

Hi, I'm having problems with my L850-150
The thing is it doesn't boot. Power led turns on, Nums Lock led turns on, fan turns on, and nothing more happens, so it's not a power supply problem.
I've been reading in this forum that updating the bios could solve the issue, but as I've seen in the instructions, it seems that the update needs to be done on Windows environment, and as I've said, the computer doesn't boot, so I can't do the BIOS update.
Is there any other solution? Is there any other way to update the BIOS?
Thanks in advance.

Can you please tell us more about your notebook and all you have done last days?
Do you use original OS and factory settings?
Have you done anything that can be responsible for this (software or hardware update/upgrade)?
It is hard to believe that something like this happen for one moment to another without any reason.
You are right, it has nothing to do with power supply, there is something else but on this virtual way it is not easy to offer some precise diagnostic.
In worst case contact nearest Toshiba service provider or your local dealer and ask for help.

  • Re: Satellite A300 doesn't boot

    Hi!
I have a Toshiba A300 for a few years. I have upgraded it with a new RAM module last week. I tested it with memtetst 86, and everything was fine, but this week it started to act strangely.
The notebook doesn't boot up properly, just spinning the ODD drive (the orange led is flashing), however the ODD is the last boot device in the bios.
Has this problem a connection with the new ram, or is it just the ODDs fault?

This means, that the machine doesn't boot. I have just black screen, no toshiba logo. I found a thread [here|http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=63497&tstart=15] and my problem seems similar to it.
I'm going to try to remove the ram next time the problem occurs.

  • Satellite A doesn't boot up - Windows cannot start

I got an update for windows internet explorer but it never started to download and i couldn't close the download window.
Then my laptop froze so I switched it off and tried to reboot.
It comes up with all kinds of options but non work they either freeze or at the end reboot the laptop and then it says windows could not boot and it does a check but this stil doesn't work.
Please help its only 20 days old.

    Hello
You can try to start your notebook in Safe mode (F8) and when notebook starts use systemrestore option and rollback operating system to the earlier time before you done this update.
    Maybe this will help.
If not I recommend you to install OS again using recovery image. If you have brand new notebook you can do this using F8 option Repair my computer.
If you need more assistance how to do this please let us know.

  • Satellite A10 - doesn't boot up properly

I have an A10 Satellite and i can't boot up even last known good configuration or safe mode doesnt work and if its booting up it will take a long time but a blue screen appears and says that an error occured and its preventing any harm to the hard disk.
I put in the recovery cd but i didnt get the xp cause it says starting windows 98 but im running an xp pro which i got when i bought the laptop. So if any one out there can help???

    HI Johan,
If you are unable to boot from your hard drive then your only other option will be to boot from a CD-ROM.
Most commercially available backup utilities (Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image, etc.) include such a bootable CD. The Product Recovery CD supplied with your notebook is most likely a cut-down version of Norton Ghost which is specifically designed to format your hard drive and then restore a 'Ghost' image of the original OEM software.
It is quite possible for your hard drive to be damaged and still have the LED come on when it is being accessed. The damage could be to the physical mechanism of the drive, or to the surface coating of the platters etc. A bootable CD from one of the backup utilities will probably include a version of CHKDSK which you can run to test the integrity of your hard drive. Norton, for example, include a copy of Disk Doctor.
If you have a copy of the original Windows installation CD, you can boot from that into the recovery console, and try to repair whatever is damaged on your hard drive assuming the problem is only corrupt or missing files. In principle, you could use the XP Home Edition CD to do this only if the damaged files are not specific to XP Pro in which case they will not be on the HE disk.

  • Satellite A300 doesn't boot - black screen afer Toshiba splash screen

My laptop (Satellite A300) has recently a big problem after when i turn it on.
When I turn on my laptop, after big logo of Toshiba in red i should go to Windows but it just stop and i only see a black page and nothing happens after that, even if i wait for ages, that black page stays same.

I tried this method before. it doesn't work. The problem is not with windows. Once i notice this issue, i installed the Windows vista again and i still face with this black page... but let me tell you something strange... this can fix temporarily when i press F2 button when i see the Red Toshiab logo and then i go to exit to save and chagen and then i restart, and windows runs....it's quite strange because i change nothing and i just save and exit.!!!!!!!! I REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS BECAUSE I AM SORT OF SUSPICIOUS THAT SOME HARDWARE IN MY LAPTOP HAS SOME PROBLEM..... I DON'T WANT THIS TO GET WORSE :(

  • Satellite L doesn't boot up after restart or shutting down

    Hello,
My laptop after restart or shutting down doesn't starting.
I need to turn off the computer and wait 10 seconds and try again, after that it start ok.
    Any suggest?
    Thanks,
    Dvir

To be honest I dont know if there is the problem actually. Most important thing is that your notebook starts. I dont know if this is so important if this happen after 5 or 10 seconds.
We dont know which notebook model do you have, how old it is, since when you have noticed this strange issue, so it is not easy to understand the problem.
    >My laptop after restart or shutting down doesn't starting.
It is not easy to understand this statement. Does it mean that when you click on restart or shutdown option in start menu notebook react properly but cannot restart or be switched on immediately?

  • Satellite M200 doesn't boot after RAM 4GB upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my RAM just to speed things up a little as RAM is soo cheap these days.
    I have a M200 T2130 Vista came with 1GB (2*512) sticks.
The new sticks are 2 *2GB Dane-elec DDR2 pc2-5300, when I put the two in and rebooted the hard drive light came on briefly and then it just stayed idol, no POST, Bios options.
I tried using a single 512 stick with both new sticks and they both work in a 2.5GB setup just not together also this only works when the 512 stick is in the more internal slot and not the other way around.
So if anyone has had a similar prob or can give me some advice that would be great, I'm not to sure if the motherboard can support 4GB?
    Thanks, Dave.

    Hi
There are two possibilities why your M200 doesnt boot after the RAM upgrade.
Firstly the installed RAM could be not compatible or could be faulty or the notebook doesnt support the 4GB RAM.
I dont know what M200 do you have exactly but you could check the installed chipset and could check on the Intel page if this chipset would support the 4GB RAM.

  • Satellite L850-161 won't boot from recovery disk

When I got the laptop in 2012 I created 4 recovery disks but since then i've had my HDD replaced in my SATELLITE L850-161 but it has the recovery partition with nothing in it and the laptop won't boot from disk either so I can't format it but really need to, any suggestions??

If you have 4 recovery discs be sure you start installation with disc number 1. After HDD exchange you should be able to use created recovery discs for recovery image installation.
Does some other bootable disc starts properly?
To be honest I dont understand how new HDDD can contain recovery partition that will be created if recovery image installation works.
Problem is that in such situation you dont have many options. In worst case you can order original recovery disc for your machine.

  • Satellite L850 - 13N - Function keys ("FN") doesn't work

    Hello,
I have Toshiba Satellite L850-13N with Windows 7 x64. The problem is that my function keys doesn't work. Could someone write me which drivers i need to install ?
PS. sorry for my english :)
    Thanks for the help.

What you need is Flash card utility and this utility is part of Toshiba VAP. As as*** already wrote reinstall VAP.
Remove preinstalled version from the system, restart your notebook and install latest version that you can find on Toshiba download page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
I hope this will help you.

  • Satellite A300 - Turns on but doesn't boot

    Hello,
I have a Satellite A300. I have had several probems while booting since 2 months ago: When I want to turn on my laptop, it turns on but the screen keeps black and it doesn't load the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen. The "Satellite" light (at the left of the mousepad) is on (it would only switch on a second while booting and then would switch off) and it doesn't turn off.
I have to retry for so many times with all the possibilities: Without battery, only with AC adapter, with both of them but it doesn't boot. I don't know what can I do. I have always to hibernate my laptop bacause I am afraid to can not boot it the day after.
Could you help me? If it cares: I had to buy a new battery (not Toshiba original) because I had to change the original one. No more changes in my laptop.
Thank you very much and sorry for my english writing :S
    Diego

Thank you for your reply PinkPanther,
I think it isn't fault of the battery, because my laptop doesn't load the Bios neither the "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen not even tryng to switch on only with the original Toshiba AC adapter.
About the external monitor: it's true many times I connect my TV by the HDMI port. But i think it isn't the problem. As I said first, there's a light (is writen "Satellite") at the left of the mousepad that lights when the laptop turns on and when comes this "Toshiba Leading Innovation" screen, suddenly it switchs off. So when I have this problem with my laptop, this light keeps on. I think that if it was problem off the monitor, this light should turn off and load the OS, and then I must hear the sound at the begining of the OS...
As you say, maybe it's a serious probelm... I posted here because I hoped that anyone had the same problem, resolved it and could help me

  • Satellite L850-1?? - WiFi mouse doesn't work

    hi..
first of all its my first time that i am asking a questions about my pc and i dont know very good english so i may have mistakes... moreover i am not a pc expert so if you try to help me be as simple as you can please... and i will begin the story
i got a Satellite L850-1?? and i got one wireless mouse to the laptop... i got the laptop 1,5 year with the same mouse and i got no problems...
yesterday the mouse stop working... i thought maybe its run out of batteries but thats not the problem i check on the internet and saw that maybe its a problem of the mouse itself or my usb ports have the problem... so i try to find the problem..
i take another one wireless mouse and try it to my laptop.. no response with this mouse either... so i am positive that my ports have the problem.. i go to the device manager and check there and it say that my usb ports are working fine...
so i try one wired logitech mouse that i got.. it was the same no response... but the device manager said that the ports were ok so i thought lets try those mouses to my father's laptop... i tried and no problem..
so i am positive thats its someong wrong with my usb ports.. but i try a usb flash and the fun part was that the usb worked fine...
so one the one hand decvice manager says thats usb ports work fine and my usb flash proves that but on the other hand 2 wireless and one wired mouse that working in other pc cant work in my usb ports
do you have any leads to my problem?

    > is there a possibility to lock the ports only for the mouses?
No, but if you attachdifferent USB device, the internal USB driver looks for the new attached USB device.
It seems that somehow the USB driver cannot find the USB mouse.
Would recommend you to check this MS knowledge base article how troubleshoots failure to find new mouse connected to your USB port:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/223256
In worst you could recover the unit but to be honest this would be drastic workaround

  • Satellite L850 hard disk failure - warranty claim in Sri Lanka

My brother bought me a Satellite L850 from UAE a month ago.
But i am in sri lanka.
The problem now is the hard disk is failed to boot and it says to replace the hard disk.
I have the warrenty card with me.
My question is can i claim the warrenty in Sri Lanka?
    Please help me soon ASAP.
    Thank you.

    Hi
If you did not purchase additional international warranty, the notebooks hardware problems can be fixed only in the country where the notebook has been purchased.
But as far as I know the parts like HDD or memory are user upgradable.
Maybe you dont need to send the notebook to UAE for a fix but maybe the guys would be able to send you an HDD under warranty conditions.
Here you can get all details about the ASPs available world wide.

I recommend you to contact the ASP and to ask for further assistance

  • Using Win7 Recovery DVDs to bring Satellite L850-1C9 to "Out of the Box"?

    Hi,
I am trying to use the recovery DVDs for my Satellite L850-1C9, PSKDLE, to return my HD to the original condition.
Even though the hidden partition was there, I always got errors, for instance F3-F200-0002.
But this was not the only one.
I am at present time, wiping the HD to give it the appearance of being a replacement HD, that takes about 5hours.
I am unable to identify any online docs about how to correctly use the DVDs.
Can anyone give me a link as I appear to be using the wrong search argument on my Android Tablet.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Andy

    Hi
If you would use the Recovery DVD for system recovering, the hidden partition isnt very important in such case. Why? Because booting from the Recovery DVD would start the recovery process and would format the HDD and delete all partitions.
During this recovery process, the deleted partition would be created again.
The question is now: why does the error message appear?
It could be related to Recovery DVD issue. Did you already recover the notebook using the Recovery disk in the past? If its the first time trying to use these recovery disks then probably the disks have not been created properly.
At the other hand it could be possible that your HDD malfunctions and therefore the recovery process interrupts.
So from my point of few you need to check both cases.

  • Satellite L850 - HD Webcam is not working

Hi, I've been trying to get my webcam to work, but it just doesn't seem to, I've had a look online but to no avail, so you guys are my last chance before I give up and buy an external one of send it back to you. I'll try to give you as much information as I can.
I've had this laptop since the 21st of August, I bought it from PC World. It's a Satellite L850 with 64-bit Windows 7
At first the webcam worked fine, everything was awesome and I thought it was great.
Then suddenly a couple weeks ago, it just stopped. I got a little notification in the bottom left of my screen that said "USB Device Not Recognised", Uh oh. Whenever I try to use it my laptop says it doesn't have one. For a couple weeks, the camera would be ok, and then not ok, it would change. Sometimes I could use it, other times I couldn't.
I had a look in Device Manager, and there was no mention of "Imaging Devices" as there was before. But there is an "Unknown Device" in the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" drop down, with a yellow sign above it.
Here's what I've tried so far:
Drivers - I followed advice from a forum and downloaded the latest apparent Webcam Driver for Windows 7 64-bit. Extracted it to my desktop, and ran the .exe. After pressing the start button, it loads up and asks me if I'm sure that I want the program to make changes to my computer. I press yes, but then nothing apparent happens. I was expecting a "Drivers Installed Correctly" or something, but nothing happened, and the problem didn't go away. I'm not sure if there was supposed to be anything, but eh. I downloaded a program called DevManView which allowed me to see all the devices that have ever been on the laptop. My "Toshiba Web Camera - HD" was among them, so I took a look at the properties. It said "Disabled: No, Connected: No. I've come to the conclusion that it is connected, but for some reason my laptop just can't work out what it is. Is there anything I can do?
BIOS - In the BIOS, the webcam is enabled.
System Restore - Went back to when the Webcam would have been working, but to no avail, no change.
System changes/webcam changes that could have caused the problem:
I used something called Fake Webcam, so I could replay videos over to my cousins through skype, I have since uninstalled all of it. I never used the webcam normally when I got fake webcam, but then when I tried it, it wouldn't work, then when I uninstalled Fake Webcam, it said that no camera was detected.
I'm at my wits end, I really want this thing to work, any suggestions?

Best thing for you would be to make ultimate check and install recovery image again and test functionality with factory settings. I know it is most radical method but after doing this you will see if the cam is recognized and listed properly or not.
If the problem starts to be present again I think there can be some hardware problem.
What do you think about all this?

  • Can't play to Second Life with a Satellite l850 1rz

If anybody could help me I would be grateful... I tried to play Second Life with my new laptop Satellite L850 1rz and the viewer says that the drivers of the graphic card (AMD Radeon 7670M) are not installed properly, are out of date or the hardware it's incompatible (it shouldn't be by the requeriments).... I tried to install the newest drivers from the amd page but it don't let me... Could I fix it?? and (if yes) how??
(I still don't know if the graphic card will cause me more problems, I just recieved the laptop )

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region. If it's a European model, you could check the Toshiba Europe forums.
