Satellite L870-19N - cannot upgrade to Win 8.1 - 0x800706BE - 0x2003

My notebook runs a Windows 8 and I can not update to 8.1.
I tried 3 times and the configuration process stops at 83% and then the Windows 8 is restored
The "error" code is 0x800706BE - 0x2003
Any help?
Thanks

Hi
The Windows 8.1 upgrade could fail if installed Windows 8 system isnt up to date.
I recommend you to check for available Win 8 updates (control panel -> system -> Windows update)
You should start with Win 8.1 upgrade only when all patches for Win 8 would be installed

    Hello to all,
bought a new Sattelite Pro C850-1MX (PSCBZE 00M009GR) in december 2013. System is running almost unchanged to delivery state. Yet installed OpenOffice, Firefox and AdobeReader in most actual versions. And updated driver for AMD-GPU to latest version. No other changes done.
Now tried to upgrade to Windows 8.1 via Windows-App-Store. Download was done, upgrade run, reboot, installing changes, preparing devices --> reboot, rollback to 8.0 with error code 0xC1900101-0x30018.
Searched internet for solutions: Toshiba sais
    - update all Toshiba-components via TOSHIBA Service Station --> done
    - (Link: [http://www.toshiba.de/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/]): deinstall some components: esp. LAN/WLAN-driver.
Hmmm...if I do so I cannot access Windows App-Store to rerun the upgrade because i have no network-connection. Stupid...
    - Why cant I upgrade an almost unchanged system because of some driver-uncompatibilities where i didnt change anything from delivery state???
    Please state any hint/solution. Thanks!

This error message appears because of some not compatible drivers and tools which are already preinstalled on Windows 8 system.
This issue has been reported many times here in the forum and was solved as reported by user harrie_1 at 12-Jan-2014

+What important is to remove the internet connection.+
+Only use to download 8.1 then disconnect (also Lan cable)+
+After starting Win 8.1 for the first time do not connect to the internet.+
+On another pc download first the drivers for 8.1 audio, realtek wlan and bluetooth and display driver.+
+Install and restart after this when de system is stable you can connect to internet and download the windows updates.+

  • Re: Satellite S50T-B - cannot activate preinstalled Win 8.1

My friend Sherry bought a Satellite S50T-B pspq8a-00h008 laptop at Chrismas in Canberra and brought it back to China.
Now, she found the system cannot be activated via neither online nor by phone. when tried to activate online, she received a error message "0x800707b, The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect." I helped her try several solutions but all failed with the same error code.
Here are all solutions we have tried:
    1. roll back any changes for optimization purpose.
    2. retype the product key by the following commands we found online:
    slmgr /upk
    slmgr.vbs -ipk xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx
    slmgr.vbs /ato
    3. try to activate by phone, use the command "slui.exe 4", it appears "the system cannot be activated by phone"
    4. restore the system. we are shocked by that the activation still doesn`t work.
by now, we don`t know what we can do to activate windows 8.1.
does anyone here could help us ?

If your notebook is still preinstalled with original recovery image that you got with your notebook create bootable recovery media (DVD or USB stick) please using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator tool. How to do this is described in users manuals document.
After doing this use this media and reinstall Windows. Start your notebook, connect it to the internet using LAN cable or WLAN connection and I hope everything will be OK.

    Hello,
I'm planning to upgrade my op. system (XP) but don't no if windows7,windows8 or 8.1 runs on my laptop.
Can anyone please help me answer this question?
And which op.system you suggest me to choose?
Where can I download drivers (videocard, usb, TOshiba tools) ?
Thank you for your kind help in advance :)

    Hi
First of all you should know that no matter if notebook drivers are released for your notebook, you can install other systems. BUT there is a important note.
If drivers are missing for your favorite system, you will have to search for the drivers at your own hand and this can be difficult since the old hardware parts are not always supported by new Windows systems like Win 8 or Win 8.1
Here for example you can find the Windows 7 system requirements.
    [Windows 7 system requirements|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements]
If your notebook meets the first 4 points, the system will run but as I said above: drivers might be the problem.

  • Satellite P305-S8997E: Cannot upgrade to Win7 64bit - error: Your System Is Not Applicable To Upgrade

    Hi everyone.
I have the Toshiba Upgrade Disc for Windows 7 Home Premium as I am currently running Vista Home Premium 64bit.
I do choose the 64bit upgrade version path with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant.
However, I get knocked out with the Toshiba Upgrade Assistant dialogue box saying "Your system is not applicable to upgrade. You can refer Windows 7 upgrade information http://www.csdsupport.toshiba.com/tais/csd/support/windows7upgrade/" after it checks out the first 4 criteria as being correct.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I did buy my notebook from the USA but live in Australia. However, I was able to order the Windows 7 upgrade disk from Australia when I arranged for my model notebook to be added to the eligible upgrades on the Website.
For general information, I was able to get a hold of a Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit full version disk. From this, I chose Windows 7 Home Premium as the version I purchased.
I used my Product Key from my Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade Disc and chose the upgrade version.
There were 3 applications from memory which were incompatible with Windows 7 so I uninstalled them and used the Toshiba Windows 7 Driver updates to install what I could. It all works fine and MS update naturally recognises the key as genuine.
However, all this defeats the purpose of why I can't upgrade from the upgrade disc.
    Thanks.

    Hi
Did you use the Toshiba preinstalled Vista OS before you used the Win 7 upgrade disk?
How about a clean install? This should be possible as well the Win 7 Toshiba drivers could be downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page

  • X130e - cannot upgrade to Win 8

Hi - looking for some help here. I am unable to upgrade my x130e to Windows 8, as the Win 8 upgrade advisor says my laptop does not support UEFI secure boot. I checked the support section for the x130e, but there is no recent bios update. The x131e appears to have a new BIOS update that was released to support Win 8, but nothing or x130e.
Also the x130e is on the list of Lenovo Win 8 upgradeable laptops : http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?DocID=HT074688
Appreciate if anyone can help with this. Thanks.

I got it to install with help from MS support. Here are the steps:
    1. Search for "msconfig" and start the app.
    2. Under the general tab select "diagnostic startup".
    3. click OK.
    4. Restart machine once.
    5. After restart. Initiate windows upgrade.
    6. After successful upgrade, return to msconfig and reset setting to "normal startup".

  • Toshiba Satellite P870 upgraded to Win 8.1 does not boot

I have a Toshiba Satellite P870 with Win 8 preinstalled. Soon after upgrade to Win 8.1 and basically successful removal of “watermark error” (secure boot activated) the machine stopped booting completely: after pressing the power button ventilator sound
is heard with periodically changing loudness as well as clicking sound from the speakers. The screen stays black. Attempts to start the PC through pressing F2 or zero buttons did not produce any result. Neither did I succeed with recovery discs I created before:
the system simply does not boot from the disk. It looks like I tried all options offered by Microsoft and Toshiba. I would be happy to roll back to factory settings.
Could someone give me hint what to do next?

    Hi,
For the issue, let us know how to remove the “watermark error".
Meanwhile, I would like to confirm if you could access the BIOS.
I suggest you update the BIOS version to test it.
If you want to repair the startup issue, you should use windows 8.1 recovery discs or installation discs.
Meanwhile, if you cannot access the BIOS, it may be caused by hardware, I suggest you contact the Toshiba manufacturer for further help.

  • System recovery fails after upgrade to Win 8.1 on Satellite L75D-A7283

My elderly uncle forgot the password to his Win 8 user account sometime after upgrading to Win 8.1. He was the administrator, we haven't been able to get Microsoft to reset the account, so I thought to roll back the computer to its factory installation of Win 8.
However, when I try to do that, I get as far as the Reset your PC screen and find that the only target OS is Win 8.1, not the original Win 8. Ok, I accept that. But after choosing to restore Win 8.1, it says "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing."
I have examined the disk by removing it and attaching it to another computer and find that both the original Win 8 recovery partition and the new Win 8.1 GPT recovery partition are both there. They just don't seem to be accessible.
It seems that the Win 8.1 upgrade has made the original factory recovery partition inaccessible, which is not particularly helpful. We have no recovery disks to work from, so I think my only recourse is to try to get a Win 8 factory recovery disk from Toshiba, but I wondered if anyone else has a suggestion? Thanks.

    Satellite L75D-A7283
It's my understanding the upgrade does not modify any other partitions while upgrading Windows itself. Seems likely something else is wrong.
If you did not create recovery media before and cannot do so now, then obtain it from Toshiba. Scroll down to Get Recovery Media here.
All the information in the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 53 of the User's Guide, should still be applicable.

  • Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

    Dear all,
Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.
Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).
I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.
Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?
    Best Regards, Evgeny.

I guess you are speaking about this Toshiba package:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/services/on-demand/business-computing/sdp120gs-v/
I dont have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.
However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]
By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.
So maybe you should use the UEFI mode but should disable the secure boot option in order to boot from LAN.

  • Cannot upgrade BIOS on Satellite P30-145

    Hi anyone,
just inherited a P30-145 notebook, cannot upgrade the bios. When I run the file, I get the message" bios upgrade rom wrong size!"and then the installer shuts off. How do I upgrade? I'm doing everything right according to the website.
Just one thing, the original restore disk was not available, so I installed a standard XP and upgraded drivers as necessary from the Toshiba site.

    Hi
Try the BIOS 1.40 from the Toshiba US driver page:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/downloadDetail.jsp?soid=1236378&pf=true
The BIOS is for Satellite P30 PSP30U. It the same series like the European notebook series PSP30E.
Download the exe file and save it on desktop. Then create an folder and unzip the sp35v14.exe file to this new created folder.
Now go to this folder and inside this folder you will find some files.
Read the readme.txt file to get full instruction how to update the BIOS.

Ever since I upgraded from Win 8 to 8.1, the bluetooth has not been working well.
The option to browse a remote folder or send a file does not work.
I can send a file only by opening the contaning folder, right click, and send to bluetooth, but cannot receive a file unless I go to

I have unpaired and uninstalled the devices respectively, and then reinstalled and repaired them. But this does not work .either.
Unfortunately, I am unable to paste  screenshots of the device manager and error messages until I am verified.
Can anyone give me a solution to this problem?

Verify that you have the latest drivers for Windows 8.1 installed from the manufacturer's website.

  • After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 my DVD RAM GT80N SATA Drive is no longer working

After upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1 my  DVD RAM GT80N SATA Drive is no longer recognizing discs. When I first put a disc in the drive runs for a bit and then stops. I've tried updating the driver but it says it has the most current driver. Under manage, it does not show any error codes and it says it is working correctly. I've looked at the regedit and it does not have any of upper and lower filters. I've tried disabling, rebooting, and reenabling. What am I missing? Another issue I've had since upgrading is that my network adapter needs reset several times a day in order to remain connected to wifi.

i am facing alot of problems. i just hate this lan card. bigfoot killer networks has the most unreliable hardware and drivers. i cant get the software or the drivers to install. upon trying to install the latest version Bigfoot Networks Killer Network Manager 6.1.0.603 (64Bit) i am getting an error saying

and on additional note i would like to update the bios aswell. can someone please help me with that too. I havent updated my bios ever, but i have upgraded from win 7 to 8.1. as i read somewhere upgrading the bios on my model which came with win 7 is not suitable. is there a safe way to update bios.

    Quote from: James D on 24-December-13, 03:10:50
If your laptop came with Windows 7 then you should install Windows 7 BIOS only. However if you want all keys work then install Firmware for Windows 8.
    Again, James, you are wrong.
Re-read your sentence again (if you can understand your own sentences).....
They do NOT need to install the Firmware (or EC firmware) in order for it to work in Windows 8. They need to stay with the Windows 7 EC firmware that originally came installed on their laptop. SCM and everything else work just fine under Windows 8 (and 8.1.....if it works at all) using the EC firmware for Windows 7. How do I know this? I have a Windows 7 based GT70 with everything working fine in Windows 8. Not only this, but it's been said over and over and over. Apparently still hasn't sunk in yet though for some people.
Its ok, these things can get very confusing for some people.
