Satellite M series broken cases

I have a 106 and 107 and both arrived with cracks on the side of the casing to the monitor. (3-4 years ago) now within a week of each other, the hinges have completely broken and the screen has to be held up manually .
Is this a common fault? Is this repairable? We are convinced it's a defect with Toshiba products

Hello Donnie
In my opinion you should contact nearest Authorized service partner and clarify this issue. Of course it can be repaired.
To be honest it will be interesting to know which Satellite M you have exactly.

  • How will i know the model of my Satellite M100 series?

just my last thought. How will i know what model am i using, it is satellite m100 series but i still dont know what specific it is...
    thanks for helping

    Hi Enrique
Its very simple to find it out.
At the bottom of the unit you will find the label which provides all this useful information.
You should also find the number beginning with the PSM.
This number is important to identify your notebook model for example
    for driver download.

  • How can I turn around the display of Satellite P series

    Hi mate,
how do you exactly mean that? Do you want to turn the display PHYSICALLY or just turn the desktop picture around? Would be nice to know why do you want it.
Another important question is: Which machine model do you own? Is it a Satellite P100, P200, etc??
Please give a feedback on it so I can maybe help you.

  • Broken Case Latch

I've got a broken case latch on one of the Mac pros I recently inherited at work.
I need to get in there to swap out a hard drive but the latch has come away from the mechanism that locks in the hard drive bays.
Does anyone know of any alternative way of opening the case? Or if there's a simple of way of popping the side panel out despite the latch being broken.

If you look at one of your good mac pros, you'll see that the latch operates a lever that's all the way up front and you can push it with something through one of the vent holes on the front of the computer near the optical drives to operate it.

  • Satellite lid hinge broken

I am currently deployed to the Middle East.  Stateside, I work as a computer technician and operate a helpdesk. I deal with various computer brands on a day to day basis. I bought a Toshiba laptop, model Satellite C655-S5122, for personal use from a friend before I deployed. I already owned an ASUS tablet but wanted a way to more conveniently take online college courses. The Toshiba was only two months old when I purchased it. I inspected the computer and there was no damage to the outside and functioned properly.  Three months after I purchased the computer I noticed the left hinge of the lid did not close properly.  Not long afterwards the right hinge started malfunctioning also. I have seen this issue in other computer brands. Typically the issue can be resolved with replacing a screw that is loose or fallen out all together. I took the back off the computer in an attempt to tighten the screws that hold the hinges in place. It did not take me long to realize just how poorly made this computer is. The hinges were screwed into the bottom plastic shell. The plastic screw holes that hold the hinges in place had completely broken off.  The screw holes were not even reinforced. I understand this is a base model computer; however, it was unable to hold up to normal wear and tear. The computer has not been dropped, hit, or slammed.  When closing the lid I have always held both sides and closed it easily.  I am very disappointed in how this computer was designed.  I have attached pictures showing the problem.  Pic 1 shows the screws that hold down the hinge with the broken plastic attached.Pic 2 shows the plastic that houses the screw holes. The plastic was painted copper to look like metal.Pic 3 shows both hinges that have broken the plasticPic 4 shows the broken plastic that used to be the screw holes I want to reiterate that the computer in the above pictures was not dropped or mishandled in any way. The damages occurred from normal wear and tear. The Toshiba Satellite C655-S5122 is by far the most poorly designed computer I have ever worked on. I will not be purchasing another Toshiba brand product and will not recommend the brand to my customers until Toshiba can produce a better product.

So my son got the Satellite C655 for Christmas 2011. He only needed it for minecraft so it seemed like a more than cabable laptop. How wrong.Wish I had seen rewiews here first. The hinge broke on the right side of the laptop, and he continued to use it, though not much time passed before the screen stopped working. We got him another one (ok so now I sound really dumb..). Anyways we put the broken one to one side until my wife said she could do with a new laptop, You know what? We should get the broken one repaired under warranty. HaHa..You have all read the rest, pay for sending it back after explaining the reason for sending it back, and of course Sir, We at Tossiba will fix it for you.So now...

  • Satellite Pro L20 - broken hinge baseplate - where to get the parts?

    Hi there ,
First post on here so please excuse any lack of local etiquette.
My son has a Toshiba Satellite Pro L20 with a broken Hinge baseplate. I'm am calling it a baseplate as i cannot find the name of the part anywhere on the web so far.
Its obviously the metal plate on the base that the hinge attaches to.
You can even see it if you remove the battery.
Does anyone know what this part is called and where i could possibly purchase one ?
    Kind regards
    Jimmy

    Hi
I think in such case the Toshiba ASP (authorized service partner) could help you.
You have to get in contact with this ASP in your country and the technician should be able to order a compatible part for the notebook.
Here you can find all ASPs worldwide:

  • No sound volume controller in Satellite L750 Series

I just bought a new Satellite L750-A057 laptop, and found a very stupid design issue that it is has no volume controller ! ONLY WINDOWS one, so If I'm in a middle of any full screen application, I must exit or switch to desktop to lower the volume !! and same for any other situation !!
So, any recommendation about how could I control the sound volume with function keys for example ?

It seems you are right. There is no additional volume controller which would allow to set the sound volume up and down
In many cases the Toshiba Multimedia buttons contain an up and down volume buttons but it seems that the L750 does not support such buttons too
    Thats shame :(

  • Satellite 2450 -101 Broken Hinge - Disassembly guide required

Hi does anyone know where I can get hold of a disassembly guide to replace my broken hinge? I have the part but want to make sure I strip it down correctly. Any help gratefully received.

    Hi
I would also not recommend removing and opening the notebook by yourself if you have no enough experience. You could damage some parts instead of repairing ;)
Every notebook technician could do this job for some bucks. so asks someone in your area.
By the way; I found an interesting website how replacing Satellite 2435 LCD screen. This notebook is similar to Sat 2450.
    Maybe its useful:

  • Satellite L670 series: fast-ethernet or gigabit ethernet ?

    Hi all,
Any L670 series Satellite owners on here ?
Looking at various websites, the common consensus is that the L670 series is not equiped with gigabit ethernet, but with regular fast-ethernet.
Can someone confirm or deny that please ?
Does it or does it not have gigabit ethernet ?
    Many thanks,
    Kind regards,
    Rene Fennet

    Hello
Differnet notebooks have different hardware so what Satellite L670 you have exactly?
Some models have Gbit but other models not.

  • Question about newer graphic driver version for Satellite A series

    Hi!
Probably I'm not the first and last one who will ask: is there going to be any actualization for the display drivers, because the one that are on the driver-homepage of Toshiba are v8.4.0.0 form 2006 :( For example: Far Cry (1 not 2).
Nearly 2/3 of the landscape is black (when I say black, a mean BLACK). And that's not all. Timeshift wouldn't start at all (yes, I know the card will not support full graphics, but I've played games with much better graphic on my PC at home (with GeForce 5200 128MB).
Good think it was just a demo.
Can't imagine what "nice" surprise it would be if someone gives a 40-50$ for a game and finds out he can't play it because of the drivers.
Had just tried trails of some programs for 3D animation...Well, only problems :-/
Another program told me in a straight line - drivers not up do date.
Updating drivers will fix most graphical issues etc....
Thanks for the help in advance.

What Satellite model dou you have?
As Akuma said, you can try modified drivers or drivers that are not from Toshiba. But with these drivers you could get more problems as now.
As far as I know the games need a lot of power and a Satellite notebook was not made for computer games. The Qosimo series is ideal for playing games.
If you want to play games on a Satellite notebook, you should not set high quality settings in game. It runs better when you play with lower settings.

  • Dv7-4000 series Bottom case

Hi. I have a DV7-4000 series Laptop (4010TX). By accident I smashed it on a wooden cupboard and the left sided hing and the bottom case were damaged. The lap boots up normally and the cooler fan apprears to be working fine. But a tremendous amount of  heat is leaked out from the damaged end requiring me to replace the hing and the plastic (or Fiber) bottom case. Can anyone inform me where to purchase a Bottom Cover for this particular model please. Hing can easily be bought from e-bay, but not the botto case. Thanks.

  • Mat****a UJ-841S reads all CD as blank on Satellite M series

    Hi guys,
This is my first post as any issues Ive ever had with the laptop I have solved myself.
However this issue (which I think may be a first for this forum has me at a loss:
My Mat****a UJ-841S is reading <b>all</b> CD-Rs as blank. It recognizes the inserted disc, and I am prompted to do the usual - Create a music CD, add files etc etc. The drive reads DVDs and Shop bought music CDs, i.e. not CDs burned at home, perfectly well. I have tried re-installing the drive via Device Manager, I don't believe it to be a Registry issue however I have checked it for errors with CCleaner, I have un-installed recent Windows updates in case there was some sort of conflict. I can only find updated drivers for the VAIO not my Tosh. What strikes me a strange also is that (via Explore) it reads the entire memory capability of the inserted disc 701MB, 702MB, 699MB etc so its can recognize it capacity... but that it is all "free space".
I have used several discs of different manufacture, with different contents. If it were a hardware fault would it still read DVDs and Shop bought music CDs?
I feel like pulling my hair out!!!!! It may just be some trivial settings or something but I can't find it. Maybe it is PEBKAC!!
Any feedback greatly appreciated for this poor frustrated user :-D
    Larry.

    What laptop model is it?
Have you tried deleting the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters?
Some CD/DVD software insert their own Optical Drive Filters in the Registry to provide CD/DVD burning functionality.
However these 3rd Party filters can conflict or cause issues, resulting in drive detection or read/write problems.
    Step 1: Start Registry Editor
    * Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry entry
    * In Regedit, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class
    * Expand Class, and click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
    * In the right pane, delete the 'UpperFilters' and 'LowerFilters' keys.
Step 3: Reboot Windows and Test
    * If you favorite CD/DVD software fails to work, simply reinstall the application to restore its Filters.
    * If reinstalling that CD/DVD software has caused the problem again, update the software or use an alternative.

  • Screen turning black on my Satellite C series

    Hi all,
my laptop is about 10 months old. Recently the screen appears to go off. What actually happens is it becomes so faint I can't see anything.
I've connected it to an external monitor and there the screen displays, so I presume there's no problem with the graphics card.
Is there something wrong with the invertor or back light? The odd time I tilt the laptop monitor up or down, the screen will return or the odd time the screen will work again (out of the blue), but eventually fade to black again.
Any help or pointers is appreciated, thanks.

Yes, I think there is some problem either with FL inverter or the display.
But this depends on notebook model you have purchased.
Either youve got a notebook with backlight display or without backlight. In such case the backlight is controlled by FL inverter.
From my point of few in both cases the faulty part should be replaced in order to fix this issue.
The notebook is 10 month old and therefore the warranty should be still valid.
Dont try to fix this issue at your own hand but get in contact with authorized service provider in your country for get it fixed under warranty conditions.

  • Satellite Pro A60: broken power port

This is the hole in the laptop where the power adapter plugs in. The pin inside that hole has broken off inside the adapter. Does anyone know the part number for this thing, the power hole with the pin inside? And where I can get one online?

ASP says they can't offer a replacement on that part and wants £280 for a new mobo. They were very helpful though and suggested I check ebay for alternatives.
Someone on ebay is selling a used A60 motherboard. The picture looks identical to my A60 pro board. Can anyone tell me if I'm correct to believe they're the same? Or even better, what are all the models that use the same motherboard as my A60 Pro?

  • Satellite T110-121 - broken hinge/support bracket

Does anyone know the part number for a set of hinge/display supports for the T110-121?
Mine broke last week and I can't seem to source a replacement or suitable alternative.
    Thanks in advance.

Huh... it is not easy to get such information but, in my opinion, you don't need it. all Satellite T110 have the same hinges and there is no difference.
Different can be only mainboard and some other hardware components like HDD, Ram WLAN card and so on.
Basic stuff like hinges is the same. I don't know where do you live but try to use Google for your country and check if you can find Hinge Bracket Set or Laptop Hinges for Toshiba Satellite T110.
Check also eBay for your country.
