Satellite M100 - Does a disabled firewire port saves battery power?

Hey everybody
I do not need IEEE so..
If I disable firewire in device manager will it turn it off and will it help to save battery power?

Hi Dmitrij
I doubt that disabled firewire port will help you to save battery power.
If you want to save the battery power you should check the Toshiba Power Saver settings and options.
Check the HowTO document
+How to setup my computer for optimum battery usage?+
You can find it in Forums HowTo area.
If you are using the Vista then I recommend checking the Vista Power settings.
More details you will find in "HowTo" doc:
+How to handle the power managment features of Windows Vista?+
Cheers

Before I upgraded my iPad mini, you could turn off apps to save battery power by double clicking the control button and then holding your finger on the app button until the minus sign appeared.  That doesn't work anymore.  How do you turn off the apps with ios7

Now you swipe downward, the app will appear and you delete, keep scolling to the right as in the past.  With the new operating system you also swipe downward to get the search bar to find an app

Go to settings > general> usage> and you can delete apps from a list of installed apps. Plus you can read all the stats on data usage and such.

  • How to save battery power

How can I save battery power on my iPhone5. When I go to work I keep my phone in a drawer at that time it seems to lose power very fast. Any other time the power is fine.

    http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html
If cellular reception is minimized when placed on a drawer, more battery will be used trying to maintain cellular reception with or without making any calls. If not being used during that time, enable Airplane mode on the iPhone before being placed in the drawer.

  • Does G4 have firewire Port?

I'm pretty new to the whole world of Apple and Macs. I've got an 800 mHz Power PC G4. This computer I know for a fact has the slower USB ports (i.e not 2.0). I'm just wondering if there is a firewire port on this computer. I've never used fire wire, but I'm using various scanners at this point and I noticed, using the USB port make for some very slow scanning. I don't even know if the Canon Pixima that I have can use fire wire, but I'm thinking that if it does, using the fire wire port on the G4 in conjunction with the Pixima scanner, will speed things up.
And, if this computer does have fire wire, when shopping for a new scanner, I can make sure the scanner has a fire wire connection. Does that make sense?

The Apple Pro Speaker port is very high powered and cannot be connected to anything other that the Apple Pro Speakers (which came with some but not all iMac G4s). Apple Pro Speakers are pretty good actually, definitely better than the internal ones on the current Alu iMacs. The port is high power so no separate supply is needed, connecting anything else will damage that device and has been known to cause major problems with the iMac itself - there's a reason the port differs! Pro Speakers are widely available on ebay. A close version of them used USB as the connection but these where the ones for the Power Mac G4 Cube.

  • ITunes 7.0.1 disabling Firewire Ports

Hi, I have a G4 iMac, running 10.3.9. Recently I upraded to iTunes 7.0.1 and it totally disabled my firewire ports. I have 2 external harddrives plugged in to these firewire ports. I've tried all of the solutions I've found in these forums (unplugging, resetting pram, combo update) but still no good. Do you think that if i downgrade to a previous version of iTunes my firewire ports will magically appear? Any other solutions or am I screwed? Thanks for any help.

Same thing happened on my G4 with Itunes 7...my 3 year old "dock" Ipod is no longer recognized (although the rest of my firewire ports seem OK)....huh??

  • Disable 1 CPU core to save battery power?

Would disabling one of two CPU cores in energy saver make the battery last longer?
Energy saver features no longer make clear what is happening. When using the slower 9400 GPU is the processor also throttled?
It would be nice to be able to see if this is the case and manually throttle the processor if it is not.
Activity monitor should show when cpu's are disabled and or throttled.
CPU Disable/Throttle Settings should include option to come back online if processor use reaches throttle limit for a period of time, or only when certain programs reach the throttle limit for an extended period of time. like photoshop in a large batch operation or final cut in project render.
This request has been sent to Apple Feedback.

The facility to turn off a core is mainly for use by developers who need to test their software under different conditions as well as to be sure the software will work on single-core machines. It's not really intended for use as an energy saving technique.
Remember that if you switch GPUs you must then restart or log out for it to take effect. I'm not sure which of those you are supposed to do since I don't have one of the new machines. I think the info is in your user manual.
Check your Energy Saver preferences to be sure you implement settings that will preserve battery power such as sleeping the drive on idle, putting the screen asleep quickly when not in use - two or three minutes, and putting the computer to sleep after a short period of non-use - five or ten minutes. Enable the option to dim the screen and turn down the screen's backlight as much as you can stand. These all help to extend battery operation.
You really should not need to disable one of the cores as the built-in speedstep should throttle down the processor when idle or when the processor doesn't require full power.

  • Does shutting off the Touch save battery more than putting to sleep?

Hi, just found out today that I had been putting my new 2nd gen Touch in sleep
mode as opposed to shutting it off completely. Now that I have learned how to shut it off does this really increase the battery life as opposed to just having it in sleep mode? Also should I be shutting off wi-fi when I'm not using that feature to save the battery? I'm still confused about how to get the most from my battery life. Thanks

A sleeping iPod consumes almost no battery. If you'll use it again in a couple of hours, shutting it off might actually drain the battery faster since restarting puts some strain on it as well.
As for WiFi, shutting that off (as well as the Push feature) will definitely save battery.
Have a look on this page for further info: http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
    Hope this helps.

  • Firewire port not giving power consistently

I have used a portable fw drive for many years and I am now finding that this current MBP is not giving consistent power to my portable HD. Sometimes, it will power up all the way and mount and others times (most of the time now) it will seem to spin up the drive but, never enough to be recognized and mount. I checked the drive itself and it always works on other systems I plug it into so, I am worried something is amiss with my MBP
    Is this a normal issue?

I was just searching the forum to see if anyone else had this issue.
I notice that sometimes my Firewire 400 audio device does not power on when connected to the MPB FW800 port (with an 800/400 cable). I'm still testing, but it seems to be when I don't have the power adaptor plugged into the MBP. The Macbook Pro needs a power cable to run a FW400 device maybe?
Its not an issue on my old 2006 MBP.

  • Does anybody know how to save battery on the iPhone?

It seems like everybody has a better battery life than me because I can barely make it throughout a day on a single charge and I hear that some people can last 2-4 days on a single charge. How long does your iPhone last on a single charge? Do you have any tips for me? Thanks!!!

An impossible question. What do you have enabled, what have you disabled, what use do you make for calls, data?
Tip: disable what you don"t need. Reset the phone.

  • What provisions does the iPhone make to save battery, when the level drops?

When I get the warning about my battery dropping under 20%, does the iPhone actually make smart provisions to keep it going for as long as possible?
For example by reducing screen brightness, stopping push email, email checks, killing background activity and scaling other services.
If it does not already do this by default, and option for this to happen would be a welcome edition to eek out as much "emergency use" as possible.

No, it just warns you. It's then up to you to take steps you deem appropriate to conserve your power, or connect to a power source.
Steps to conserve power can be found here:

  • Satellite L875D-S7232 Hangs Up When Booting on Battery Power

Hello all... As I stated in another thread regarding Special Function Keys, my new Satellite L875D-S7232 has an issue that during boot-up of Windows 7 HP SP1 without the AC Adapter plugged into it, it will "hang up". After many hours of troubleshooting & even having it looked at from the retail tech that sold it to me, we have found no solution for this. I have also formatted the machine, partitioned the HD, & installed My version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit SP1, along with updated ATI & Realtek drivers, along with only the updated driver software from Toshiba support website, & this issue still presists. This apparently isn't due to faulty written bloatware, & apparently due to an actual hardware issue. I am returning it to the retail outlet I purchased it from, in hopes they have a replacement machine of this model since I do like this platform at the price I got it. I will respond to this post to let ya know if the replacement was a success & the issue only pretained to this actual machine, which is what I am suspecting since I haven't seen any posts on this forum of a similiar issue. I did come across a port/thread (whatever ya call them) where a person had a different model, & his machine did exactly the reverse of mine, where his machine would hang up on the boot if the AC adapter was plugged in, but fine when running on battery. Myself & the retail tech even tried the solution they suggested of changing BIOS setting on the Processor cores... This solution was unsuccesful for my machine.

I hope it works fine after the exchange. Let us know how it goes.

  • Why does Magic Mouse use much more battery power than the keyboard?

I have the Bluetooth versions of the keyboard and the Magic Mouse. I use the same rechargeable batteries in each. Yet the mouse has now come to the end of a THIRD set of AAs, while the keyboard still has 60% of its first set.
Why? They are both constantly in use, so why does the Mouse drain batteries so much faster than the keyboard? Viz: the mouse about once a week (two, max), while at this rate, it will be another month or more before the keyboard drains.

Actually I don't! I consider myself a 'power user' in that I will always use the keyboard first, and I learn keyboard shortcuts for nearly everything I do regularly.
I would guess my use is 50:50 at worst?

  • I just got an iPhone 5 64 gb model and the battery drains extremely fast even after tweaking the phone to save battery power anyone else having the same issue!?

Should I take it to the apple store?

    Try these steps as needed.
    1. Reset iPhone (no data loss): Press both home and power buttons for at least 10 seconds, releasing when the Apple logo appears.
    2. Restore in iTunes using a backup (no data loss)
    3. Restore in iTunes as new (without  using a backup)
Backing Up, updating, and restoring your iPhone and iPod touch software

  • Connecting firewire port to USB

My computer does not have a firewire port.  How can I connect my video camera which has firewire port to the computer which has USB port?  I would like to edit my videos.

Has anyone tried this yet?  What type of cable did you buy that worked?  My Sony Handycam DV camera has a firewire output.  My new Touchsmart 600-1100 (Windows 7 - 64-bit) does not have a firewire port, just USBs and S-Video.  So I can't capture the video from the video camera to my desktop.  My only workaround is to use my HP notebook (older model) that does have a firewire port and export the video from the camera to my external hard drive, then import it to my desktop  (My DVD drive broke on my notebook or I wouldn't have a problem).  Then I'll try to work with it with Windows Movie Maker or Adobe Premiere 7 to create the DVDs.
Now I ask myself:  "Why did you buy a desktop without a firewire port???"
