Satellite M110 - How to replace the HDD?

Have to replace my Hard drive as the original is f&%$ed.
I have tried to connect the original hard drive to my other laptop via a USB to Sata cable but it is not showing up. You can feel it spinning. I was able to do a HDD test on it and it failed in the Toshiba via a bootable CD. Since I can access the HDD to get to the recovery section, what is the best way to reinstall windows XP on it so I can use the original XP key on the bottom of the laptop. As I know that you usually have to have the right version or OEM copy of windows in order to use certain keys.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also would a Western Digital Scorpio Blue WD1600 8MB 160GB 2.5" SATA Hard Drive be suitable for the Toshiba as they both are SATA.

Hi
Your posting is a little bit confusing... Which HDD you using in which notebook now?
If you want to install the OS on your old/new HDD, therefore you cant use a SATA to USB converter. Therefore you have to use it as internal HDD.
Furthermore a Western Digital HDD would be suitable due SATA port. :)

  • How to change the HDD on Satellite Pro 430CDT

Can anybody tell me where I could find simple instructions telling me how to dismantle my old 430CDT in order to fit a larger hard drive? I'm thinking of replacing the 1.25gb drive with a 4 or 6 gb hdd - assuming the drives I have can be persuaded to fit.
I'm guessing the hard drive is hidden somewhere beneath the keyboard, but can't work out how to remove +that+ without damaging it.
I have no real experience of this sort of thing - I've done nothing more complicated than fitting new RAM to a less-ancient A120, and changing hard drives around on a Satellite 320.
The archives don't help, unfortunately, although it's entertaining reading the old press releases and adverts and seeing what was considered high-performance just twelve or thirteen years ago - progress in computer design is pretty rapid, isn't it?. Makes one realise that within a couple of years from now anything with less than a terabyte HDD and quad-core processor will be as amusingly obsolete and limited as my old 430 seems now.
Absolutely no practical reason for this - purely out of curiosity, and just for the fun of it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated - thanks in anticipation!

Thanks for that suggestion - unfortunately, I still can't locate the hard drive.
With the computer upside-down, I can get at the memory (a rectangular plastic covered secured with two screws), the battery (which I've removed for now), and the lever which ejects the CD-ROM (or floppy drive).
Looking round the sides of the machine, I see PC card slots and various connectors/ports - most of which I don't recognise...
Your description would suit my other ancient machine, a Satellite 320, perfectly - and replacing the hard drive on that takes but a couple of minutes. The 430 seems more difficult, to say the least.
If you could suggest anywhere else for me to look, I'd be most grateful!

  • Satellite A200-10X: How to partitioning the HDD

    Hi there guys!
I have a pro with my satellite A200-10X, it has only one HDD volume, and i want to make them two... and everytime i use the product recovery CD, it formats the HDD... but i do not know how to partition the HDD two get two volume spaces...
and whats worse is that when i keep on doing that over and over it eats the HDD free space... so how can i partition the HDD and recover the 200GB space the computer originally have?
    i appreciate your help ..
    thanx

    Hello Sherif
If you use delivered recovery media you have follow options:
    1. the whole HDD capacity can be used for partition C
    2. the HDD capacity can be split and you can create two partitions
When you use both options Vista will create 1,4 GB partition but this partition will not be visible when you use OS.
If you want to have two partitions (C and D) start recovery procedure and after choosing the language use SETUP button on the right side. In the middle of the screen occurs small window and there you can set how much capacity should be reserved for partition C. when the recovery procedure is finished and Vista starts open Computer Management.
On the left side choose Disk Management. After doing this on the left side you will see partition marked as black. This is second partition but still not visible. Click there with right mouse button and choose option to create logical drive. Follow the setup procedure.
After few steps this partition will be set as logical drive and after formatting it will be visible in Vista Explorer.
If you have more questions please post again.

  • Replacing the HDD on a Satellite M50-A-110

    Hi,
I just bought a new Satellite M50-A-110 and I wanted to replace the HDD that came with the laptop with my existing SSD.
Unfortunately, there is no way (that I could find) to reach the HDD bay.
In the previous versions I could replace it with no hassle at all, but here the whole bottom panel is made out of a single piece of plastic that I couldn't remove.
Can somebody please help me out?
Is there a trick in removing the bottom panel that I'm not aware of?
Thank you for your assistance in advance and all the best,

    Hi
Well, the HDD as well as the memory modules or battery are placed under the plastic cover at the bottom of the unit.
You will have to remove the whole plastic cover to get access to such parts.
From my knowledge there are 12 screws securing the bottom cover.
Then you could gently remove the logic lower from the upper by prying the edge of the lower from the right corner.

  • S35dvd: How to remove the HDD?

Can anyone tell me how to remove a hard drive from a s35dvd please? I can not find a service manual anywhere and I need to remove the drive to try to remove a load of viruses that i can't remove with windows running or even in safe mode.
    Thanks

    Hi
Unfortunately this Toshiba unit it unknown to me and I dont have found any officials documents about the HDD replacing.
But as far as I know there should be only 2 possibilities how to remove the HDD.
1.) The HDD slot is placed at the bottom of the unit and you need to remove only the HDD cover.
    Or
2.) The HDD is placed in the notebook. In this case you have to remover the keyboard and some covers to replace the HDD
Well, I can give you only this info. I think if you want to know the detailed instruction you should contact the Toshiba service partner because he has a more detailed informations about such cases.

See chapter 5 and 6.  You may have to remove up to 83 screws. Get yourself a tray or paper and lay out how and where the screws go in. An alternative is to take digital photos at each steps.

I have had to replace the HDD and need to reinstall OSX but cannot find disc that came with the unit, does anyone know where I can get them from or download if possible?

Just how do you do an internet recovery on a system that has a blank HDD with no operating system that the unit cannot boot from????
If your Mac came preinstalled with Lion or Mountain Lion after you install your new blank HDD, restart the Mac while pressing/holding the COMMAND+OPTION+R keys until you see a spinning globe. Make sure you have an Internet connection (WiFi or Ethernet). This will boot into Apple's Recovery HD servers and present you with the OS X Utilities Menu. From there you can select Disk Utility to format your new HDD and then reinstall Mac OS X for the OS that was preinstalled.
Internet Recovery doesn't care if you have an unformated HDD because it boots over the Internet to Apple's servers, not your HDD.

  • On a new imac how much of the HDD is already used with the OS,iLife,apps..

Looking to buy my 1st ever iMac, the one Im going to get is the base one, with 250Gb HDD (I may upgrade to 320Gb for UK £29 though)
My question is how much of the HDD is already used by OS X and everything on it? I understand there is some free trial stuff onthat can be installed eg MS Office, iWork etc I would want these removed as wouldnt want them so how much is left before you start adding your own stuff
I also want to install Win XP on it so need to know what to do, 250Gb in todays computing is very stingy I think, so I need an idea
    cheers

Here's are some disk usage information from my 20" white C2D. The numbers
are running totals that include periodic software updates and some of my own
stuff -- but that would be less than 0.5 GB of the final total.
OS-X with "no optional packages" is a very usable system; it includes 'core'
applications such as Safari, iTunes, Quicktime. It does not include any of the
iLife apps or the iWork/MS_Office test-drive bloatwares.
The large increase in disk usage for a minimum Leopard system is partly due
to the inclusion of more apps in the 'core' OS package. Some things that were
optional in Tiger have become part of the "minimum" Leopard install.
The Xcode software development tools are a standard part of every OS-X
distribution, but since most customers have no use for them, they're not
included in the factory-installed disk image. If you don't plan to install
them, subtract 3.4 GB from the final tally.
    Factory pre-installed Tiger 10.4.8 & bundled software .................. 16.4 GB
Erase & Install Tiger 10.4.8 with NO optional packages .................. 2.9 GB
SoftwareUpdate to 10.4.10, with NO optional packages .................. 3.1 GB
Erase & Install Leopard 10.5.0 with NO optional packages ............... 6.6 GB
SoftwareUpdate (11/11, immediately after Leopard install) ............. 6.7 GB
Install Xcode SW development tools from Leopard DVD ................. 10.1 GB
    Install & SoftwareUpdate iLife'08 (except iWeb & GarageBand) ....... 12.3 GB
SoftwareUpdate to Leopard 10.5.1.................................................. 12.5 GB
IMO, 250 GB is FAR more than you'll ever need for installable software plus
a sizeable collection of music/photos. OTOH, no amount of disk space will
ever be enough for an avid music/photo/video junkie, and everyone should
have an external backup drive. So, stick with the standard internal drive and
    buy more external storage.
...a billion here, a billion there -- and pretty soon you're talkin' 'bout alot of money,
    Looby

  • Qosmio G50-10J: How to replace the Optical Disc Drive (ODD)?

    Hello there,
the optical drive of my Qosmio G 50 is not working properly anymore, it reads only some movie-DVDs, but sadly no videogameDVDs at all, so I cannot instal any games.
The warranty has already expired too. So I wanted to ask if it is possible to change the drive myself, if it is then how should I do it, and if by doing it would the laptop be in
    serious risk of getting damaged?
I would be very thankful for every tip and every help you guys can give me!!!
    Best regards,
    a.z.

    Hi
In different cases the ODD replacement is not very tricky.
If you want you can check this forum category.
Here you can find some videos how to replace the ODD on different notebook models:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=115
Here is also a nice Youtube channel which provides the instructions how to replace the ODD:
    http://www.youtube.com/user/toshibaeuropesupport
But maybe the ODD laser lens is dirty. In my case I could solve similar issue cleaning the laser lens using a cotton-wool tip and alcohol.
    But be careful doing this!

  • Satallite A100: How to replace the keycaps?

Is there a manual on how to replace the keycaps after they come off?
My Satallite A100, one year old, lost two keycaps a few weeks ago, and I am unable to replace them, although I have all the (little) parts. It got even worse when some more came loose recently when my little son peeled some off, using the room created by the already missing keycaps.
    Thanks!

    Hello Mike
Reading your posting I can not understand exactly what is wrong with your keyboard but removing and putting in place keycaps (plastic with written symbol) is not problematic. You must just put it right in place and gently press it down. You will hear click and the keycap will be in the place again.
Under this keycap is placed small plastic mechanism. It contains two small plastic parts. If they are removed from the bottom you can put them inside again. To see how it looks like remove keycap from any other key and see how is it placed.
I have done the same now and with a little bit patience you can put it in the right position again.

  • How to replace the certificate of Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller for CAPWAP ?

I have interested in CAPWAP feature and I download the open capwap project to make Access Controller (AC) and Wireless Terminal Point (WTP). I had built the AC which used PC and WTP which used Atheros AP. The CAPWAP feature work well when I enabled the CAPWAP that used my own AC  and WTP. When I got the Cisco 2106 wireless LAN controller (Cisco WLC), I configured the Cisco WLC to instead my own AC but I got the authorize fail in Cisco WLC side. It seem the Cisco WLC could not recognize the CAPWAP message which sent form my own WTP. I think this issue just need to synchronize the certificate between Cisco WLC and WTP.So I need to replace the Cisco WLC's certificate manually. Does anyone know how to replace the certificate manually with Cisco WLC ?
    Best Regards,
    Alan

Unfortunately this Support Community is for Cisco Small Business & Small Business Pro product offerings.  The WLC2106 is a traditional Cisco product.  You can find this type of support on the Cisco NetPro Forum for all traditional Cisco products.

  • Qosmio X500-10W - Can I replace the HDD with another one?

    Hello
I have a Qosmio X500-10W with two HDD Toshiba MK5055GSX 500GB 5400RPM 8MB ??SATA II but is one of hs so I wonder if I can be replaced by a more powerful style HDD 750GB 7200tr / min 16MB Toshiba course?
    merci

    Hey,
Your question is a little bit hard to understand but I think you want to replace the HDD with another (faster) model, right?
Well, thats no problem. HDDs with 7200rpm will work, they are a little bit louder but they are faster so if you need more performance no problem.
Also 750GB or more is no problem because SATA interface is not capacity limited. Theoretically 1TB or more should also work.
Anyway, you can buy the 750GB you mentioned it will work. :)
