Satellite M30 Display crash

Today, after almost two years of usage with no problems, the diplay on my Satellite M30-901 crashed. Starting to normally use the notebook, the display became "unstable", tremoring, vertical lines appeared, the background brightness changed successively on green, violet, blue then normal white, it was like watching through smog. Then it got frozen. I rebooted the notebook, worked a little bit and crashed the same way. After third normal reboot the problem appeared from the first image, when booting. I tried to use an external monitor but it does not work. Any ideas? Could it be the motherboard or the display itself. I treated my laptop with very much care, did not hit or drop it. Anyy suggestions, or simmilar behavior? Could it be a faulty display card? Thank you ver much!

Hello
I think that you are right about that. Like you said, usually it is not necessary to hold the main body of the when opening the display.
I can really not give you any advice about your problem. There can be two reasons for the display issue: software or hardware malfunction. You can reinstall the unit with recovery CD and check this. If the problem persists it is probably caused by hardware. In this case the only solution is service department.
Good luck!

  • Satellite M30 keeps crashing after reinstall and SP2

    hi,
Can someone please help me. I'm having trouble with my Sat M30. It is 2 yrs old and I've never had problems with it before. However, I recently had a crash and decided to reinstall from the recovery CD. upon reinstallation, I tried downloading service pack 2 and my computer keeps crashing. I have not installed any other software and still keep having this problem. This is very strange since sp2 worked perfectly on my laptop until the recent crashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've reinstalled now for the third time and am extremely frustrated.
    the error I recieved on crash was: ***stop: 0X000000f4 (0X00000003, 0X86152950, 0X86152Ac4, 0X805f9f88)
    thanks very much

    Hi
Thats pity that it happens. Did you check the Microsoft Windows XP SP2 Update information on the Toshiba driver page? In the Sat M30 driver area you will find the document which describes what application must be updated to use the SP2.
I would recommend firstly checking this sheet before starting any SP2 installations.

  • Satellite M30 - display adapter driver

New software loaded onto my laptop warns "...your display adapter requires an updated driver". The driver I have is a Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200. Could anyone tell me what is the latest and how do I get it. I am VERY non technie! so I hope it is simple!! Also what is BIOS? (told you I was non-technie!!!!!)
    Thanks GillW

    Hi Gill,
The latest available driver for your graphics is version 46.44 and you will need to check which version you currently have (in Device Manager). It is likely that you already have this version installed since the release date is May 2004.
The BIOS is a small programme held on the CMOS chip on your mainboard and it is responsible for handling the basic peripheral functions of your notebook so that your operating system can get on with running your applications. The BIOS is loaded when you power on your notebook and before the operating system itself starts up.

  • Satellite M30-801 - display will not work after hibernation

    Hello everybody,
I hope you will help me with this issue. I have a Toshiba Satellite M30-801 and my warranty has finished.
A few days ago, my computer had stayed some hours in standby mode. When I restarted the system, the screen continued on black. No images.
I connected an external monitor to check the video card and that test was ok. Now I'm writing this letters using my laptop connected to the external monitor.
Also, i noticed that there was blacklight on the screen.
I had checked the power management for the universal serial bus controllers on the control panel.
I downloaded and installed the last bios update.
But the display is still black.
Could you help me? any ideas?
    Thanks and regards,

  • Display crashes to 640 x 480 on Satellite 1110

    Hi all,
I have a problem with a Satellite 1110. It has worked fine for years, but I am currently working elsewhere and the power is from a generator (this could be important).
My laptop keeps having a display crash that resets the display to 640 x 480 from 1024 x 768.
At this stage you have to reboot and you can view the error report that suggests hardware or software failure.
    This says:
    BCCode : ea BCP1 : 814F15F0 BCP2 : 81B418B8 BCP3 : 819AA310
    BCP4 : 00000001 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 1_0 Product : 768_1
I have reloaded the graphics driver but it makes no difference.
However, run the laptop on batteries and it works fine.
    Any ideas?
    Steve

    Hi
Unfortunately, I dont know what this error message (code) means.
But it would be very interesting to know if you use the original AC adapter which was delivered with the notebook.
Did you try to reinstall the OS with the recovery CD?
If this issue occurs after the recovering procedure so it could be a hardware fault.
In this case the notebook should be checked by service partner

  • Satellite M30-604 - Hard disk mechanical failure

My satellite M30-604 is within warranty (bought 10 months ago) and my Hitachi travelstar hdd crashed out of the blue. The crash is probably mechanical so I can not use data recovery software (it makes things worse). The only way to get my data is to give the HD to some specialist who will open it in a "clean room" for something like 300 - 600 Euros (!) and try to recover as much as possible. Now:
-> Toshiba says that if I do that the warranty is void and I will also have to pay for a new disk (+ 100 euros)
-> If I want to replace the disk (warranty) then toshiba gets the old disk and I lose my data forever!!!
    WAIT A MINUTE GUYS!!!
    a) this is my data, my work and you CAN NOT blackmail me with this "warranty void" stuff. I want my old crashed disk back! I want to try to recover as much as I can! my 10-hours-a-day work is IN there!
    b) Moreover even if the heads of the disk crashed, my PERSONAL, PRIVATE data are still in the disk and CAN be read with special techniques. How can toshiba (or any other company for that matter) ask me to hand it over to them?
    What should I do?
    What would you do?

    Hi there,
I sympathise with your problem and can only suggest the following thoughts :
    1. Recovery of your data would seem the most important factor here. I would suggest removing the HDD yourself so that it can be sent to a specialist to recover what data is possible.
    2. Since removal of the HDD does not usually involve extensive dismantling of the notepad it should not invalidate the remaining warranty (other than on the HDD itself).
    3. A replacement HDD can usually be obtained quite cheaply from one of the internet sellers (check using GOOGLE for a suitable replacement). you can then re-install your operating system from the recovery CDs.
    4. I would suggest investing in a suitable backup software package (such as Norton Ghost) to avoid this problem in the future. (I have had four replacement HDDs on my Satellite A30 in the last 12 months).

  • How to view Videos in 16:10 Format on Satellite M30

    Hi,
i have a Satellite M30 notebook with a 16:10 Display but all videos are only displayed in 4:3 format.
Is there any way to play videos in 16:10 format and to remove those black lines from the left and right side of the display?
    Thanks in advance,
    Pizikata

    Hi
I dont know what you mean under all videos but the fact is that original DVD movies are mostly in 16:9 format. That means that on the left and right side there should not be any black border just up and down. I dont know which DVD player you use but every player has different options for display modus like Pan & Scan and frame settings.
Check all those options on your DVD player. I have Qosmio F20 with 16:9 display and I have tested it with several players. On every player there are almost the same results.

  • Satellite M30: FN keys not working after IE7 installation

I installed IE7 and noticed that the fn keys no longer work. (Satellite M30)
I am not sure if that was the catalyst because I'm not sure how long the problem has existed for.
The only ones I use often are FN+f6 and +f7.
I really need to be able to adjust the brightness of the screen. Any and all help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi
First of all the display brightens can be changed also in the Toshiba Power Saver utility.
But its very strange that after the IE7 update the FN keys stopped working. I have installed the IE7 on my notebook and the FN keys still work fine.
So maybe its a simply something wring in the registry. Who knows ?:|
I would recommend reinstalling the Common Modules.
    Maybe it helps!

  • Satellite M30, Screen stays sometimes nearly black after start up to several minutes

    Satellite M30, WinXP
Sometimes, the screen stays very dark, what means that you can see a tiny little bit the startup info in the background and also the windows desktop, for up to 2 minutes before suddenly becoming really lit.
Not even the latest BIOS update did a change. And what is bizarre is that it appears not always. A non-stop start-and-shut-down-sequence showed that it appears about 2 out of 3 times.
    What could be the reason?

    Hi LeTom,
did you use the toshiba recovery os or a own installation?
It seems that the Display has a defect, so here are some questions to play it safe!
Did the failure occure also when the red Toshiba logo is shown shortly after starting to boot?
If you use a own OS installation, you should do a complete new installation with the Toshiba recovery CD (be carefull all data will be lost, make a backup).
Then the notebook is setted back to software default settings and if the failure occures yet, you should check up the hardware by a Toshiba service partner!
I think the M30 is still under warranty!

  • Satellite M30-861: why can i not write to DVD?

Hi I bought Satellite M30-861 about 15 months ago and until now have only tried to burn CDs - no problem. Now I want to try to burn onto a DVD but it doesnt seem to be recognised (I tried drag n drop and also NERO). I can see on the drive unit that it says DVD R/RW and according to my warranty info on Toshiba website I should be able to burn DVDs (this was a question I asked when buying!). Any ideas what I am doing wrong??!
    Thanks!
    Marving

    Hi Marvin,
According to the specifications for your notebook you should be able to burn DVD-R/RW only. Are you sure that you are using the correct media ( -R/RW and not +r/rw).
Also if you are using RW media then these will need to be formatted before you can burn to them. (you can use Nero INCD to do this).

  • Satellite M30-344 would not boot up

    Hello!
    I have there a Toshiba Satellite M30-344.
I didn't use the notebook since several weeks. Now everytime I boot the Notebook an error appears: "0203: Failure IDE #2 - Do you want to run setup".
Since the last use I didn't change anything on the configuration.
The only problem there was, is that I has forgotten to turn him off and he kept running under my table for more than 2 weeks.
Is there a way to solve this problem?
    Thank you for your help.
    Greetings from Germany!

    Hi,
...oh dear, you are not kidding?? You forgotten to turn him off and kept him under a table??? Man, THATs REALLY weird. :)
And now to help you with your problem:
IDE#2 means the DVD-drive, so you have some options to bring your machine to life, since your DVD-drive maybe could be faulty.
Firstly, try to get into BIOS and make everything to default. If you didnt get any results, then remove the drive by unscrewing the screw under the drive and pulling the drive gently out
of tha machine. You can also after you unscrewed it, open the drive and then gently pulling it by the inner carriage of the drive.
If unsure how to make or to much fear to damage something, then bring your machine to an local ASP and they will help you with your little problem.
So I think, your drive is probably faulty.
    Greets
P.S.: And try to remember next time when what you keep under your table like notebooks, pets, humans, gremlins.... ;)
    Nice weekened

  • How to change the cooler on Satellite M30-344?

    Hello,
I´m pretty lucky with my Satellite M30-344 but since 2 months the cooler starts to get louder every day. Is it possible to change the cooler on my own and how expansive is the original cooler? Do you know something like a tutorial for the changing process?
Originally 2 256MB Ram pieces is installed. Now I´m thinking about a bigger RAM piece. As far as I know the are only 2 slots for the RAM or am I wrong. Is it possible to install two 1GB RAM pieces???
    Thank you for your help!

    Hi
The replacement of the internal devices is not easy and a little bit risky.
I would not recommend replacing the cooling module yourself.
You could damage something on the board and as you know the motherboard is a one of the expensive parts of the notebook. The manuals are not published because such documents are only for the technicians and service partners.
Therefore I think you should ask a service partner for the help because these guys have more experience in such procedures.
I found a online site with the memory modules for Satellite M30-344
    http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=6958&ft=m&st=3
It says that its possible to update the memory to max 2GB. Therefore I Think its possible to use 2x 1024MB module.

  • CPU upgrade on Satellite M30-106

    Hi folks
Could do with some help please?
Just got an old Toshiba Satellite M30-106 a few weeks ago and [to be fair] it runs not bad with xp on it. I purchased another 2 gig DDR which does make a difference speed wise but can I upgrade the processor from the Intel Pentium M processor 725 1.60 GHz front side bus : 400 MHz,2nd level cache : 2 MB thats in it just now ?
Can it take a higher CPU if so whats the highest? Would be very gratefully of some advice please.
    Thanks in advance.......

At first I must say that I agree with you that this notebook runs well with WXP. At least this notebook model is designed for WXP. ;)
I found some info about CPUs on Satellite M30:
+The Satellite M30 computer is equipped with an Intel Banias Processor, which+
    +incorporates a math co-processor, a 64KB L1 cache memory and a 1MB L2 cache+
+memory. The processor runs with one of the following speeds:+
    +Intel Banias Processor 1.40GHz (1.35V) / 1.20GHz (0.85V)+
    +Intel Banias Processor 1.50GHz (1.35V) / 1.20GHz (0.85V)+
    +Intel Banias Processor 1.60GHz (1.35V) / 1.20GHz (0.85V)+
    +Intel Banias Processor 1.70GHz (1.35V) / 1.20GHz (0.85V)+
So maybe you can use this fastest 1.70GHz CPU. I don't think you will see big difference.
Best thing you can do is to upgrade RAM to max and optimize preinstalled WXP and you will be happy with this oldie.

  • Satellite M30-107 does not boot correctly after Recovery disk usage

    Hi
I've recently got hold of a second hand toshiba Satellite M30-107 laptop, and decided to freshen it up.
I used the toshiba recovery disk, but after doing so the laptop no longer loads windows.
When turned on it shows the Toshiba start up disk for about a second then goes to a blank screen and freezes.
When turned off and on again a screen comes up reporting an error in shutting down and gives the options to start in safe mode etc. but choosing any of the options causes the machine to freeze.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    jt

    Hi
Sounds a little bit like the notebook does not boot due to the Windows software issue
Did you recover the M30 with the original Toshiba recovery CD which was supplied with this M30 unit?
Maybe Im wrong but for me it looks like a wrong recovery CD was used and an image with non compatible drivers was installed
You could try to install the OS from original Microsoft Win XP CD and could check if it would be possible to get the notebook ruining using clean OS.
In such case we ( you and me ;) ) could find out if this issue could be related to the software or hardware.

  • Can't find drivers for Satellite M30-842

    Hello,
I am a repair technician, and I am repairing a European model Satellite with corrupted Windows; I have reformatted and I am installing Windows with my generic Windows XP Home CD. I have had no luck finding the drivers for (as listed in Device Manager):
    - Network Controller (wireless, wired ethernet is working)
    - Multimedia Audio Controller
    - PCI modem
    - Unknown Device
Windows update was able to find the video and USB drivers, but I cannot find any information on this model on any of the Toshiba support sites.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tim Allix
    Whistler, BC. Canada.

I dont know where the problem is???
The Satellite M30-842 contains the number PSM30E.
Visit the Toshiba driver page and select simply this notebook
You should also find the installation instruction on the same page Check it and follow the guide lines in the text file
