Satellite M300 screen stay white on after start

Hi, anyone can help me establish why my screen stay white after switched on, I can hear in the background that laptop is start up but nothing is on the display

Hi
I can tell you how to check whats going wrong here
You need an external monitor and need to connect the unit to this monitor.
If you will not be able to see something on the 2nd screen, then I would assume that your graphic card chip is not OK.
If something would be visible on the 2nd monitor, then a internal display problem might be the reason for your issue

  • G5 Grey screen & flashing white square after start-up & unresponsive key.

After pressing the start button on my G5, instead of the usual blue start-up screen I got a grey screen with a small white square with a blue earth-globe, that flashed on & off. This eventually turned into a small folder with a finder face alternating with a ? mark. 10 attempts (over 1/2 hr) at switching on & off got no-where, so I left the grey screen going and after 10 minutes the G5 suddely went into the blue screen loading mode & then my chosen desktop picture. All apps seem to be OK.
I have not had this experience with my 2 year old flat panel G4 & I am wondering if I should do something remedial to prevent this happening again? The question is What? I am relectant to turn the G5 off in case I get a re-run so will leave it to sleep pro tem.
I have had this Mac for about 5 months from new & it has behaved itself until now. I am a novice so would welcome any help.
    Thanks - Terry Wallis.

    Terry,
Personally, I have always put the computer to sleep as I have been told this is less stressful for the hardware than a restart from a cold shutdown. I haven't had any hardware problems with this iMac G3 since new in 2001 so I tend to agree with this practice.
A good FAQ by Dr. Smoke of the X-Lab for OS X maintenance can be found here which dispells many of the maintenance myths that some follow.

  • My 27" imac won't boot in normal mode. The screen stays white. I have upgraded to Yosemite. However, the computer does boot in safe mode. Could this be a virus related issue or possibly a video card issue?

My 27" iMac will not boot in normal mode. The screen stays white. The computer will boot in safe mode. Could this be virus related or is it possibly an issue with my video card. Before this happened, my computer screen was flashing weird things and the computer would unexpectedly power down.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Dropped my Treo 680 & screen stays white!

Hi, this is my first time posting.  I have a Palm Treo 680 that I dropped - AGAIN - usually it tells me I have to take out the SIM card & put it back in.  But this time, the screen totally disappeared on it.  I have taken the battery out and put it back in, as well as the SIM card, and when it comes back on it acts like it's booting up but the screen stays white, not even the Palm logo comes up.  I know it still works because it still vibrates when I get a text message, and I was able to dial a phone number and the phone works fine too, just nothing shows up on the screen!  Sometimes it's totally white, sometimes it turns greyish/purplish and then black, but if I tap the phone it'll turn white again.  Do I just need to leave the battery out a certain amount of time so it will reset?  There was only one other time I had a similar problem, there was hairspray building on the screen and I was trying to rub it off, and the screen messed up like this.  But at least then when I took the battery out and put it back in the logo came up, then the screen went blank.  The logo isn't even coming up this time!  Eventually I left the battery out (I don't remember how long but it wasn't even all day, probably around an hour?), but it finally started back up & booted just fine.  Is that what I need to do this time, just leave the battery out a good while? (And stop dropping it,already!)
    Thanks for any help!

Post relates to: Treo 680 (AT&T)

    Hello!
Are you saying that taking the battery out for extended period of time resolved your issue or was that for something in the past?
Yes not dropping the phone will vastly increase its lifespan

  • Satellite M30, Screen stays sometimes nearly black after start up to several minutes

    Satellite M30, WinXP
Sometimes, the screen stays very dark, what means that you can see a tiny little bit the startup info in the background and also the windows desktop, for up to 2 minutes before suddenly becoming really lit.
Not even the latest BIOS update did a change. And what is bizarre is that it appears not always. A non-stop start-and-shut-down-sequence showed that it appears about 2 out of 3 times.
    What could be the reason?

    Hi LeTom,
did you use the toshiba recovery os or a own installation?
It seems that the Display has a defect, so here are some questions to play it safe!
Did the failure occure also when the red Toshiba logo is shown shortly after starting to boot?
If you use a own OS installation, you should do a complete new installation with the Toshiba recovery CD (be carefull all data will be lost, make a backup).
Then the notebook is setted back to software default settings and if the failure occures yet, you should check up the hardware by a Toshiba service partner!
I think the M30 is still under warranty!

  • Satellite A200 screen stays black when trying to boot

    Hello everyone,
My Toshiba Satellite A200 notebook is not working anymore, so everything started when I was playing a game, suddenly, the screen turned blue with some tiny text written on it. I had to hold the power button a few seconds to close it because nothing was happening on the computer. I then pressed the power button to open it. Everthing was going well, until the welcome screen. At this part, it was written "Welcome" but the Vista loading circle left of it wasn't turning.
After a few seconds, I decided to close the computer again, so I did hold the power button so the computer closed. Here is the problem : I tried to reopen it, but the screen stayed black. Nothing was happening. The power light was blue, but not any computer activity. So I let it like that a few minutes then closed it and tried again, but the same thing happened. I tried to disassemble it and noticed one of the two memory card wasn't fully in its slot. I fixed it, but it didn't fix the problem.
I also tried to plug another screen on it, but that one was also black. So I put back the screen on its computer and tried to boot my laptop and it worked. It was booting, but the first problem came back, the Welcome screen was frooze there. So yes I did close it again and then the same thing happened, the screen stayed black.
I don't think the problem is the screen because as I said sometime it goes to the welcome screen. Also I don't hear any welcome sound when the screen stays black as if the computer would simply not start up. And as I said earlier, I don't see any computer activity on the little light in front of the computer. And left of this one, I clearly see that the computer is ON because the power light is blue.
So this is my problem, next time the computer manages to start up I'll try to boot it on the SAFE MODE, but until then, I don't know what to do. Please, help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    MrRoy
    EDIT :
After letting the computer turned off for about 30 minutes, I started it, and booted in safe mode. At this step, I securely closed my comptuer with the shut down button instead on holding the power button. Then I reopened my computer, and it booted and the problem was fixed. Now my notebook is openened and working.
So if this is happening to you :
    1. Shut down you computer.
    2. Wait for about 30 minutes.
    3. Boot in safe mode
    4. Shut it down using the shut down button istead off holding the power button.
    That should work.

Finally, it doesn't work. I don't know why but my computer did start up after the 30 minutes, but now it's not working anymore. It just won't startup like I said later, with a black screen.
The computer did work for about half an hour. I mean, I managed to start it up but after executing a program, it just froze and I had to hold the power button to restart it. I did it about 3 or 4 times, then it simply did the black screen again. I think the problem is my processor, maybe it's damaged or something, could it be possible?
Because I see that the processor isn't working when I try to start it up.
So let's say it's damaged, would that be the symptoms of my computer?
And if it's the processor, the only way to fix it is to send it to a reparator or something, because I don't feel like it, I'd rather do it myself.
But right now, my computer is simply not booting, like I said in my previous post.
    Thanks in advance,
    MrRoy
Note : The edit button wasn't there so I had to double post :/

  • Re: Satellite M - Screen stays black

    Hi,
I am not the most computer savy person, but i do know that when i open the lid on my laptop, the screen is supposed to come on. Sometimes the screen stays blank, but I can here it make the sign in sound and if I plug it into the TV via the HDMI port it shows the screen is working fine.
What have to do then is shut it down, open and close the top a few times and hope it works again. This can even happen if it is open and working and i restart the computer.
    Any ideas?

    hi again,

Its a satellite M300 (model no PSMDCA-03600R) running windows 7 ,32 bit operating system, 2.0 Gig of RAM, intel 2 core duo processor. It is about 15 months old, and this problem has been occuring for atleast the last two months, just out of warranty (D'oh!).
Any advice would be gladly rceived!!

  • IPAD Screen Stays Black even after reset.

    Hello
I have a case similar to the one posted by darKnghtV  on Jun 24, 2012 10:12 AM related to screen stays Black.
after I have stopped using the device for 3 days, I came back and the screen came back on. I reset the device to factory setting and it has been working fine for two days.
how can I confirm if the issue is a hardware or software?
if the device is defective, how can I exhaust the screen to show the issue again so I can take it to the service center?
    Regards

I have done this few times.
however I had to use screen shot, view the image from  my PC to have the unit reset to factory setting. even after that screen wouldn’t start.
when I took it in the car and it was a hot day, I reach the work shop and the unit was really worm, screen came back on and it did not go black again for the past three days.
what is puzzling me, was it fixed after the reset and it is a software issue, or is it a hardware ?

  • I Have Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower Pc..THE SCREEN TURNS WHITE & FREEZES after 8 -Minutes of usage

I have an HP Compaq 6200 Pro Microtower PC.
I cant use in recent times, about two weeks now. The screen turns white and freezes after about 8-10 minutes of been in use. when this happens, the FAN spins at extraordinary fast speed and this will continue for as long as possible until i have to press and hold the power button to off it.
I have changed processor, powerpack, cooling fan, memory and hard disks but the problem persists.
This PC is an i5- 3.10ghz, 4gb ram, 320gb hdd, ...windows 7 professional 64 bits.
I need urgent help. Technical advice. What could be the course of this and what do i need to DO?

Start the PC in 'safe mode' and check in device manager for new graphics drivers, it sound like you drivers are either out of date or corrupted, the screen going white and computer responding is a symptom of this.
safe mode uses VGA drivers and these should not freeze giving you ample time to complete these steps.

  • I dropped my ipod in the pool and put it in rice for three days and now the screen stays white. what is the cheapest way to fix my ipod?

i dropped my ipod in the pool and put it in rice for three days and the screen just stays white now. what is the cheapest way to fix thiss?

There are companies that specialize in data retrieval but it's costly (probably cheaper to buy a new iPod) and more than likely as Allan said, your circuits are probably damaged beyond all hope of retrieving anything. It's worth calling Apple you maybe able to get a discount or a refurbished iPod. Can't hurt to ask, Good luck. (And in the future... no texting in the john.) Sorry, couldn't resist it.

  • Help! the screen stays white and itunes doesnt recognize!

okay so this has never happened before, and i am really freaking out. so i was putting new videos in my ipod and then shut down my computer. i unplugged my ipod (no discontect button on) and and went upstairs to play my ipod on my speaker. i come back later and take it off my speaker, but the screen turned white and the light stayed on. i left it alone, and now it is still like that. the light has not gone off (but my light is always on because i set it like that) and the screen is white. itunes doesnt recognize it but my computer still makes that sound whenever i plug/unplug my ipod. can you tell me whats wrong and how to fix it?

i would re-boot the computers and ipod (hold the center button then put it on then off hold) and hook it up, if needed re-download itunes. Dont worry its happened before. Also make sure you have the newest ipod versions on the ipod 1.1.1 that should fix it. Also if you have the new version then re install it on you ipod. If not then call apple support

  • Ipod nano the screen stays white

My ipos non is turning on and working but I cannot see anything, The screen remains white. It was working firn till yestarday, then I charged it and not it's all white. Any idea what is goign on and how I can solve the problem? Many thanks

You can work through the five 5 R's of troubleshooting to rule out the possibility of corrupted software.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's LCD display, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less.  Google "iPod screen repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.
