Satellite M30X-155: Is it WLan ready?

Hallo, i wanted to know if my Satellite M30X-155 is wireless ready, and can i just simply plug in mini PCI WLAN card. I have some experience as service person, but i dont want to open my laptop if ther in no allready built in antenna.
Greetings.....

Hi
Simply answer: No, the WLan is not available on your unit.
In this case you have to use an external solution like a USB WLan stick.

How do I find out if my Toshiba model SM30X-173 is ready for Turbo 3G communication?
    Tom rasta

    Hi
I have checked the specifications on the Toshiba website and I have a little bit searched with Google and it seems that the Satellite M30x isnt ready for 3G communication.
You can only use the WLAN standard on your notebook and if you need 3G communication you need another notebook, for example Portege.

  • Dropped my Satellite M30X - now sound & WLan don't work

I dropped my Satellite M30X on the carpet, and now the sound and wireless connection no longer work. (The wireless switch light doesn't turn on when I turn the switch on.)
Is this a repairable problem or do I need to purchase a new computer? Please let me know.
    --Yvette

    Hi everyone,
I spoke with the computer tech support team in my area, and they mentioned that I should have a wireless card installed instead of having the wireless switch replaced. However, repairing the sound is a more complex issue. I would need to have the hard drive replaced, and it would cost me $425.
Not want to spend so much money, I then looked up prices for hard drives online to get a second opinion. It was then, that I discovered (by accident) that an audio card could be used to fix sound unable to be heard from headphone outlets and broken wireless connections. Will an audio card restore sound unable to be heard from my computer's built-in speakers, or is this a problem that replacing the mother board can only resolve? Please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Satellite M30X: Trojan horse - total formate with recovery disc?

    Hello,
I had a Trojan on my Satellite M30X. My Antivirus deleted it, but everytime I have been connected to the Internet it appeared anew. Not connected to the Internet it did not give me any problems. As I could not get rid of it, I saved all my data and made a new installation from the recovery disc. As long, as the button for Wireless LAN is switched off, everything works properly, but just a short time, after I have switched it on, I get a blue screen. When I reboot my computer with the WLAN switched on, it produces a bluescreen even before Windows is properly loaded, even during installation. I tried the recovery 3 times, but it is always the same result.
    1. Is it possible, that the Trojan destroyed things of the pre installation?
    2. I can not choose to make a formatation during the recovery process. All data is lost, but I have the impression, that it does not formate the harddrive properly, so that everything is destroyed. Does it just overwrite some stuff?
    3. Is there a way to do a proper formatation and then install Windows totally anew?
It is not a problem of my WLAN card, since internet is no problem in Linux.
    Thank you for your help
    Tody

    Hi!
If you use the Toshiba recovery disk the whole HDD will be formatted so if you have viruses or Trojans on your notebook they will be deleted too.
But what BSOD code are you got? Are you sure that this is the reason of viruses?
Do you have the same issue if you connect a LAN cable to the notebook?
    Bye

  • Atheros Driver to W2K in Satellite M30X - Please help-me

    Friends,
Due IT policies in my company i can't use the Windows XP.
I have to my work a Satellite M30X with a wifi mini PCI board, the model is Atheros MB51, and the code is AR5BM5 (i think so thats a part number).
    My actual OS is W2k.
My problem is, I don't find the driver to this Wi Fi model for Windows 2000.
I just find the drivers to WXP.
Any people know, how i can get this driver?
Have any generic driver for this wireless board?
I have the same problem with my Infrared in this notebook.
Please, give-me any information to solve these problemns.
    thanks in advance,
    Svio Barreto

    Hi
Unfortunately this unit is not supported for W2K. Please check this page http://www.idicalif.com/LasVegasTechnical2.htm . Under Toshiba drivers you will find Atheros 802.11a/b/g WiFi driver with Cisco/WPA support for Windows XP/2000. I dont know if this will works but you can try it.
    Good lukck!

  • How to connect a video capture device to Satellite M30X 127

I'm going around in circles trying to find a video capture device that will function with a laptop and would be grateful for advice. By way of example, I'm now looking at the 'Canopus ADVC-110', although still looking around (but not Pinnacle, who seem to have a terrible reputation for capture items).
    Problems include:
    1. Main problem is - many video capture external devices require a 'line-in' to PC for good quality audio transfer. This laptop doesn't have a line in, only the mike and headphone jacks. In addition, I've also tried a few RCA pins in the 3.5mm microphone/headphones jack and they were too small. How to solve the problem of getting audio from vcr to my PC?
    2. The ADVC-110 connects to the PC via Firewire (and S-video), but is a SIX-pin type. M30X is a FOUR-pin type. Are there adapters available?
    3. Some capture programmes seem to require huge capacity of RAM. Is a laptop going to be suitable to do the job? (I simply want to capture old vhs tapes from vcr to PC, then burn to DVD with Nero 7 or similar).
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello
You are right! You must use external device for signal transfer to your notebook. I dont know where you have this info but I have good experiences with Pinnacle product. For data transfer I have used USB port.
'Canopus ADVC-110 is not known to me but I dont see any reason why this should not work well. Use delivered software for video capturing and there should not be any problem.
Only thing is that after recording the whole video material must be prepared for burning and unit need a lot of power to do this well und fast. When you buy this and want to use on right way I recommend you to expand RAM to 1GB.
Compatible memory modules for your Satellite M30x are:
    PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
    PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

  • Broken CD-ROM drive on Satellite M30x

    Hi,
This is unusal I guess; I have bent the cd-rom tray on my Satellite m30x. When the tray was opened it got bent upwards slightly. Its not really broken but slight bent so that it no longers will close and if closed will unlikely open again.
Is it possible to replace this part of the laptop?
    Thanks,
    john

    1) Yes, you can replace the CD/DVD drive
    2) Its not very tricky to remove the CD/DVD drive from the notebook. Its secured with one screw at the bottom of the unit. Remove the screw securing the optical drive module and use your hand to push the module and then you can slide the module from the bay
    3) You will have to buy an compatible CD/DVD drive. The compatible drive could be ordered from your local Toshiba ASP

  • Satellite R630-155 - Fan is too noisy and SSD upgrade

I am the owner of a Toshiba Satellite R630-155 (Core i5-480). My problems are:
    1. The fan is too noisy and never stops. In normal operation (browsing and general office work) there is a constant high pitch noise that is audible three to four meters away in an office environment - in high load you just can't stand it!!! The fan never stops... even when you are doing nothing...
    2. Heat is a big problem. The bottom of the laptop is constantly overheating and i have to place it on my desk in a way that the bottom left corner is outside of the table so it can breath fresh air from below - if not, the temperature rises and the (loud) fan is unable to keep up. When i work with the laptop while sitting on a sofa, i have to place a thick book between the laptop and my legs. The book must be thick (more than an inch) with hard covers, otherwise the heat passes through the book!!!!
    3. Last (but not least, i just mention the biggest problems here) it's the problem with SSD installation. I bought a used Corsair F80 (80Gb SSD) from a friend, but i was unable to use it with the Toshiba - the BIOS was not detecting the disk. I tried installing all latest firmware updates for both laptop and SSD but i had no success. Then i gave the disk back and i bought a brand new Zalman 128Gb SSD (SSD0128N1 Sandforce) but i had exactly the same problem. I contacted my local Toshiba support and after a lot of conversation the only answer i got is that the laptop is not compatible with those SSD's and this is acceptable by Toshiba and not their problem. They told me that if i need an SSD upgrade i can only go for the Toshiba SSD that is installed on the portege series, which is sold by Toshiba for a ridiculously expensive price - about $500 for 128Gb. I contacted the European support center and i got the exact same reply. I searched on the Internet and i found someone else with the exact same problem with a Corsair 128Gb SSD - he found that the laptop detects the SSD after ten to twenty reboots. I tried that and it was true - after a lot of reboots the laptop detected the Zalman disk and i was able to install Windows 7 successfully, but the process is unacceptable. Also the disk is benchmarked by official sites at the speed of an OCZ Vertex 2 128Gb (and slightly better), but when i ran a benchmark in the Toshiba, the results I got were below half of the advertised speed. Same benchmark in another machine for the same disk, resulted in the advertised speeds.
Shame for Toshiba... nice design and portability but everything else is a big flaw. Their support in non existent and they do not value their customers. I feel they stole my money and I'll never buy a Toshiba laptop again.
Sorry for the big message, but I need I have to warn potential customers. Can someone help me with any of the above problems? Do you have the same problems too?
    To be continued...

    Hi buddy,
Regarding the fan and heat issue: Did you make BIOS update? Friend of me has Satellite R630 too and he told me that fan activity with new BIOS version 2.10 is reduced. Furthermore the notebook is cooler than before so I would recommend installing this update. You can download the BIOS update here:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers
But before you start the BIOS update you should consider the following tips:
    -Run update as Administrator only
-Unzip all files from zip archive before you start the update file
-Close all running programs and also the antivirus and firewall
-Make sure that battery is fully charged
Regarding the SSDs its always a little bit complicated installing 3rd party products and nobody can guarantee that such parts would work. You are always on safely side with original Toshiba spare parts.
Everything what you can do is installing the newest firmware for SSD and hope that it works but who knows maybe the BIOS update will also help you in this case ;)

  • Satellite M30X - high hard disk drive utilization

After login in Windows XP (SP2), my toshiba laptop is very slow. The hard disk drive light is continuously on for 5 minutes. I've looked at the task manager, but CPU utilization is low and RAM usage is low. There is no program that seems to use a lot of CPU or RAM.
I've actually turned off the paging file to see if the problems due to intensive use of the paging file on the HDD, but problem persists. The model of the laptop is Satellite M30X-113.
I don't know if it's related, but this problem arose around the time that I've taken out a 256 MB RAM module and installed a 512 MB one (making the total ram memory 1024 MB).

    Hi
    > I don't know if it's related, but this problem arose around the time that I've taken out a 256 MB RAM module and installed a 512 MB one (making the total ram memory 1024 MB).
If this issue has begun after installation of the new memory module then I would say that the new memory module is responsible for this issue.
You could also try to put back the 256MB module to check if the issue still persist.
This would be the easiest way for checking

  • Satellite M30X-129: Can recovery CD be run from an external drive?

My wifi appears to have packed up - recognises wireless networks nearby but won't connect to them - so I am trying to use the Product Recovery disc in the hope that this might restore the wifi.
However, the DVD Multi Drive is not working properly - the light flickers briefly to indicate some sort of activity but no disc shows up in My Computer. I'm thinking that if I buy the External Drive, I can run the Product Recovery disc from this.
Is the Toshiba External DVD SuperMulti Drive (PA3454U-1DV2) compatible with the Satellite M30X-129 P-M 735? Can Product Recovery be run from an external (bootable?) drive?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hi
According to this Toshiba page the drive is compatible with your unit:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/options_and_accessories_search_by_model.jsp?servic e=EU&selSeries=-1&selFamily=2326&selCategory=2319&family=2326&selP roduct=98795
The fact is that only this boot device options are available: USB-FDD/HDD/ODD/LAN
I know that you can only boot from the external CD/DVD drive if the device support this option and the unit.
In my opinion to be100% sure you should ask the ASP for the opinion.
But know another question: Did you boot from the recovery CD to recover the OS?
If you want to recover the OS you have to boot from this CD and not to start it under Windows. Check it

  • How to find out the serial number of Satellite M30x

Over time the serial number has worn away from the bottom of my Toshiba Satellite M30x. Is there any other way I can find out what this is?

    Hello,
you want to know your serial number / model number but the sticker/manual got lost?
    Here is the solution:
All of these informations are stored in the DMI of your BIOS and can be read easily with a tool called DMIviewer. (size 146kb)
This utility can NOT harm your notebook in any way as it is made to READ (VIEW) the DMI only compared to other tools that can do changes aswell.
It also runs right out of the box without the need for an installation... a must have utility for everybody ;)
You can download it by clicking the link below:
    http://anonym.shareinside.net/?http://tinyurl.com/yuded9
After you run the file, click on <DMI--System information (Type-1)> ... here is your info :)
also check out the entries in <DMI--System Board information (Type-2) for the mainboard serial number.

  • Satellite M30x, How can I find out model number?

    Hi
have to get drivers for my good old Toshiba Satellite M30x******* . The stickers underneath are washed out and i can not read the model number anymore.
How can I find out the model number to get the correct drivers?
    Thanks for Help

    Hello
I have checked Toshiba download page and for Satellite M30x there is one model only PSA72E.
So just visit Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.
When you open download area under product type choose option ARCIVE and you will find drivers for your notebook model.
If you have more questions please let us know.

  • Satellite M30X has 8x or 4x AGP bus?

    hi guys,
i just got the Toshiba Satellite M30X - 111 (UK model) and although the specifications on the toshiba website state that this laptop was the ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 with 8x AGP bus when i go to the Display Settings it says that the max AGP is 4x. Anyone knows why is that? Anybody in here has the M30X, can you check in the display properties whats your max AGP bus, is it 4x or 8x ?

I think that Toshiba has decreased some components quality or quantity on this line of notebooks, to keep low the price and to offer more competitiveness (the M30X notebooks are more powerful than the M30's but, in my opinion, have lost in design and other little things).
Anyway, I think M30X are good notebooks, robust and enough powerful to run any application (included some heavy 3D games as Doom3, FarCry, etc.)
P.S.: For the fan noise, you can create a new power profile to keep the CPU velocity to Low when you are not using intensive applications. In this way, the fan is nearly always off. ;)

  • BIOS reset at Satellite M30X

    Hi,
I own a Satellite M30X and its not booting anymore after soldering a new D/C Jack. It turns on and the fan starts working. But the screen stays dark and after 2 seconds the fan stops and everything is frozen (cant turn it off by pressing the power-button). I hope I cant solve the problem by resetting the BIOS by hardware.
Is there any chance to do that?

And what is the point? The notebook has no valid warranty anymore and you can do what you want but if something goes wrong you expect some kind of magic solution. I can understand you want to save the money because the repair is expensive.
For me it sounds like damaged BIOS chip. This is typical behavior when BIOS update is not done successfully. I dont want to say you have done BIOS update but the result is the same, nothing on the screen and notebook switches after few seconds OFF.
Anyway, you can check follow threads with interesting comments about damaged BIOS. Maybe it will help you
