Satellite M30x + Win7 : DVD's not detected by the CD/DVD drive

Hi,
I'm using a M30x since 2004 with its CD/DVD drive Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-831 S.
When I was using Windows XP, I never had problems to read or write on CD, CD-R, DVD, DVD-R or DVD-RW. But recently i have installed windows seven, and since this day the drive doesn't want to recognize DVD's. I still can read and burn CD's and CD-R's. I'm trying to burn the same blank DVD-+/R/RW as before but the drive don't want to detect them. The ones I already have burn aren't detected either.
My computer say that the CD/DVD drive work correctly and that the drivers are updated.
I have tried to clean the lens but nothing have changed. And I wanted to reinstall the drivers but I couldn't found them for windows seven.
Thanks for the help.

At first I must say that this old notebook is definitely not designed and not supported for Win7 so if Win7 works well you are really lucky guy. Win7 s not supported and drivers dont exist so dont spent your time searching them on the net.
I dont know if described issue has anything to do with Win7 or not but fact is that lens position for CD medias and DVD medias is different and, generally speaking, when there is problem with reading one of these medias it can be problem with lens calibration what means optical disc drive is defective.
You can test it one more time if you install WXP recovery image and check if this will work again.
Other way I don't think there is anything you can do about it.
BTW: which burning application do you use?

    Hi Virendrasingh,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and CD/DVD not working correctly.  I would perform a hardware test.  Where did the CD come from? Were you having issues with the CD ROM before?  I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of HP Notebook,  I would need the model number. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Please respond with which Operating System you are running:
Which Windows Operating System am I running?
    Please let me know.

  • My Satellite A25-S279 (WinXP) will not connect to the internet wirelessly since UVerse was installed

My Satellite A25-S279 (WinXP) will not connect to the internet wirelessly since UVerse was installed. (Rather, I should say
it 'connects', then immediately disconnects.) When I had regular DSL, there was no problem, but since UVerse installation,
I can connect ONLY with the ethernet cable.
Thinking it was my 'old' computer, I took it to the local computer place---they were able to connect instantly (wirelessly) AND maintain connection. Sooo...I've told this to ATT, & had 2 different techs out here, both of whom were very patient & tried EVERYTHING they could think of,  & both of whom failed to fix the problem. They maintain that it is NOT the fault of the modem/router, but is some 'miscommunication' between my laptop & the modem/router.
Is that possible? Is there a setting I need to change on the laptop? If it worked BEFORE UVerse, and if it STILL works at the Computer store, and if it works WITH the cable, why won't it connect wirelessly?
Thank you SO much for any thoughts!

It is possible. While it's not common, sometimes you could have a working router and a working wireless card in a laptop, but they just don't communicate. It sounds like that might be the problem unfortunately.

Same PC as I used to post the question. When I go to the "plug in check" page, it shows I am up to date and it is not disabled.

There is no way any fellow user here can know anything specific about your repair status.  You will need to call Apple and ask them yourself.

  • How to burn DVD and can i burn the same DVD later if its having any space..

How to burn DVD and can i burn the same DVD later if its having any space..?

This is called sessions, but it is not recommended and has been largely abandoned by software developers. This was a good thing in the late 1990’s, when opticals discs were quite expensive, and file size quite low.
applications which reportedly may do this are
    - isoBurn: http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/40109/isoburn
    - others, I do not remember which ones, try SimpyBurns, Burn, Dragon Burn and LiquidCD, you will find all in macupdate.com, test which ones suit you.
Otherwise, I do not recommend you such time consuming and inefficient solutions, optical drives are being replaces by more capacitive, cheaper and more practical solutions, like external disks. But, if you insist, you will find what you are looking for.

I upgraded to Maverick and now Time Machine will not connect to the external hard drive to back up files.  The external hard drive is a Western Digital "My Book Live" 2 TB.  How do I solve problem?

I also had problem accessing my WD MyBookLive after upgrading to Maverick.
To resolve the problem, I used  Connect To Server (Cmd K) to specify the IP address.
Then I enter a user id and password I created in the MyBookLive.
You can also verify that you have admin access to the MyBookLive using Safari or Chrome.
Just enter the MyBookLive IP address as the URL.

  • Satellite Pro C660-1NQ does not detect WLan network

    Hi Guys,
We have a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-1NQ here which does not detect the wireless network at all,
I have checked device manager and the wireless card does not show in here.
I tried scanning for new hardware, but nothing was found. I tried turning the wireless off/on with the function and F8 keys but still not showing in device manager or finding any new hardware.....
Any ideas as to what i can try next?
    Cheers,
    Ash

    Hi
It seems that the notebook would support the Atheros 802.11agn Wlan card.
Usually the Atheros Wlan card should be listed in device manager under in the menu Network Adapters.
If its not listed then I recommend installing the WLAN driver which can be downloaded here:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/?page=downloads
Choose the Atheros Wireless LAN Adapter Windows 7 (32/64) 9.2.0.419.0 or newer
Hope this helps to detect the Wlan chip!!!

  • Optical drive (CD/DVD burner) not detected by Windows - dv9812us

I've been dealing with the same or at least a similar situation for the past week.
I've got an HP dv9812us running Vista home premium SP 2.  The drive is detected by the BIOS because it attempts to boot from the drive, the light blinks, and you can open the drive via the button.  Once Windows starts booting, though, it quits working entirely.  It doesn't show up in the Computer folder and it doesn't show up in the Device Manager.
    So far, I have tried:
    1) Following the suggestions listed by HP here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00678214&tmp_track_link=ot_faqs/top_issues/en_...
     - similar to the link given previously, only specific to a notebook rather than a PC
     - includes suggestions for running MS FixIt for drive limits
     - checking for the presence of the drive in Device Manager
     - uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers in Device Manager (which I can't do because the device isn't listed in the Device Manager)
     - and downloading and installing the latest firmware and software for the drive (also can't do because Microsoft's software doesn't detect the drive).
    2)  Following the suggestions listed here by Apple because this problem is apparently common in conjunction with the installation of iTunes with Vista: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
     - repeats suggestion for download/reinstall for firmware/drivers for optical drive
     - also:  checking C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder for "afs.sys" or "afs2k.sys" files which may interfere with GEAR drivers for iTunes
     - manually removing the GEAR drivers from your computer and registry and then reinstalling them.
    3)  Running the HP and Windows Update programs to make sure all of my software and firmware is up to date.
    4)  Uninstalling iTunes and downloading and reinstalling iTunes.
    5)  Physically removing and reinstalling the optical drive without powering up
    6)  Physically removing the drive, booting up, shutting down, reinstalling the drive, and booting up again.
    7)  Hard reset suggested by CherylG
    8)  Removing the optical drive from my roommate's Pavilion, exchanging the mounting bracket and bezel from mine, installing the known-good drive into my computer, and booting (everything was exactly the same as with my normal drive...worked in BIOS, quit working as soon as Windows began booting up)
    9)  Running sfc /scannow and found no corrupt files
    10)  Placing hammer where it can be seen by my laptop as sarcastically suggested by my friend Jason.
None of these have worked and I can't find any other suggestions listed anywhere.  I'm keen on the iTunes issue simply because I hadn't really used the optical drive since I'd installed the newest version of iTunes and it had worked prior to that.  Is there a way for me to find the drivers for the optical drive manually?  Microsoft wants to find them itself, but since Windows doesn't detect the drive, all it does it tell me that Windows didn't detect the drive.

Hi, guys, I have had the exact same problem since the summer of 2010. Here's what I was able to find out.
Deleting upper/lower filters, running all those Fix Ya programs and other Microsoft crap is useless. This problem is most certainly has nothing to do with registry of any software on your computer. I took my HP 9620us to a couple of repair places and, they tried a lot of things and it appears that the root of this problem is a faulty motherboard connection. Of course, it costs about 400 bucks to fix it so I'm not sure I want to pay this kind of money.
Anyway, if somebody was able to fix it PLEASE post here to let us know. Again I am 99 per cent sure it's some piece of hardware in the motherboard.

  • Satellite M30X-129: Can recovery CD be run from an external drive?

My wifi appears to have packed up - recognises wireless networks nearby but won't connect to them - so I am trying to use the Product Recovery disc in the hope that this might restore the wifi.
However, the DVD Multi Drive is not working properly - the light flickers briefly to indicate some sort of activity but no disc shows up in My Computer. I'm thinking that if I buy the External Drive, I can run the Product Recovery disc from this.
Is the Toshiba External DVD SuperMulti Drive (PA3454U-1DV2) compatible with the Satellite M30X-129 P-M 735? Can Product Recovery be run from an external (bootable?) drive?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

    Hi
According to this Toshiba page the drive is compatible with your unit:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/options_and_accessories_search_by_model.jsp?servic e=EU&selSeries=-1&selFamily=2326&selCategory=2319&family=2326&selP roduct=98795
The fact is that only this boot device options are available: USB-FDD/HDD/ODD/LAN
I know that you can only boot from the external CD/DVD drive if the device support this option and the unit.
In my opinion to be100% sure you should ask the ASP for the opinion.
But know another question: Did you boot from the recovery CD to recover the OS?
If you want to recover the OS you have to boot from this CD and not to start it under Windows. Check it

  • Hard drive and dvd are not recognized in the setup menu, what could be wrong?

The hard drive and dvd drive are not recognized on the setup menu for my Pavilion a4316f desktop computer.  Could it be a failure of the controller?  Can a PCI controller be used to replace the mother board controller?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The Recovery process would erase you hard drive, and attempt to install a fresh OS. Decidely a bad choice if you wanted to save your data files. The Recovery sets are "tattoo" with the BIOS hardwafre configuration. It will not, IMHO, recognize the PCI Sata card.
You mentioned the Recovery program on the hard drive actually requested the installer of the controller (PCI card). Try running from that.

  • I cannot upgrade my iMac 2009 to snow leopard (it was deleted by mistake) now is running 10.5.8, the snow leopard dvd is not installing and the computer keeps crashing..If anyone have an answer, PLEASE Help me.

I have a 2009 iMac 4,1  2GHz intel Core duo it says here I have 1GB of memory. I had it running on snow leopard 10.6.8 I still have the SN software that i bought to made the upgrade. Had some guest staying at my place and they deleted the running os and a lot of files and stuff..., now is running on leopard 10.5.8 and it's giving me a lot of problems because is soo obsolete, also hte computer is crashing all the time and every time I try ti install the SL dvd, the computer won't read the dvd and I'm keeps booting me off. Is not getting better at all and now when I restart the iMac before I get the grey apple screen, the folder of death icon flashes, (I already lost my Macbookpro due this situation. What can I do to resolve this aggravating and frustrating Issue. Need help now ..Please

Before we get too far, please clarify this part:
    I have a 2009 iMac 4,1
A 2009 iMac cannot be an iMac 4,1; they are 9,1 and higher. Did you mean to type "2006?" That would be an iMac 4,1. We need to pin down the model issue before proceeding.
It could be the drive, not the disk, that is dirty. Try a drive cleaning disk, usually about US$5-15 at home entertainment, electronics stores and office superstores

  • I removed my optical drive because i added an ssd hard drive. when i plug in the dvd to usb it will not play from the macbooks dvd program. the error message is there was an initialization error, a valid drive could not be found.

I can go into disk utility and see the optical drive and mount what ever cd is in the drive and quicktime will play it. but i would like to have the dvd program recognize the optical drive and open what ever is in it.

Freakin amazing! I installed a new 1TB Samsung SSD in my main hard drive slot and moved my old hard drive into my DVD slot and moved my DVD to an external DVD case and it would never work with movies, only software disks. I have Late 2011 Macbook Pro running Mavericks with 1TB Samsung SSD and a 512GB HDD in the DVD slot with my DVD in an OWC external DVD case.
I tried this trick but at first, this did not work because OxED was saving the new file as a text file and not a unix file. I was perplexed until I read the comments below the article and found the tip to use Terminal to change the saved file to a Unix file. I have never used Terminal before and I had no clue what I was doing, but I just followed the steps to a T and it worked. It took two tries with Terminal.
The comment mentioned "Code:" so I typed that along with the rest and it didn't work. I tried it again and this time just typed
chmod +x (with a space after the x) then dragged and dropped the saved dvd file from my Desktop into Terminal and hit enter. Worked great. Thank you. I have my DVD player back.
I also had to play around with some permissions and I had to remove the original file completely from the "A" folder, before I dropped the new file back in.
Took a little work, but I am back up and running. Thanks to all who contributed to this and yet OWC definitely needs to have all this in their manual or even provide a disk or software download that does this automatically.
Here is the trick: http://macenstein.com/default/2011/07/how-to-get-your-external-super-drive-worki ng-in-lion/
Be sure that the new file saves as a Unix file. If it doesnt save as Unix, you will need to:
    Open Terminal.
    Type:    chmod +x
…with a space at the end (and do NOT press enter yet).
Then, drag the saved file you want to change from whereever it is saved and drop it on top of the Terminal window. The file path and filename should automatically fill in (and you should ensure that there’s a space between “+x” and the file path).
    Press enter.

  • Seagate Hard Drives not detected by the Windows 7 installer

I've spent hours on this trying every conceivable reason, so I apologize in advance for the length on this post.
I connected a Seagate 320GB 7200.10 hard drive to a P35 chipset system and attempted to install Windows 7 RTM onto it. The installer got to the part of detecting hard drives, but could not detect this drive. Native SATA mode was enabled, and AHCI was enabled.
I disabled Native SATA mode, then after that failed I also tried disabling AHCI by setting the controller to IDE mode. Still, the Windows 7 installer refused to detect the drive.
I replaced both the SATA & power cables, verified the drives are detected by the AHCI firmware and the BIOS, and I even tried different motherboard SATA ports to no effect. I took a second , identical Seagate 320GB SATA hard drive, this time pre-formatted it inside Windows 7 RC using NTFS defaults, and again (with and without AHCI and Native SATA mode) Windows 7 will not see this hard drive either!
I even downloaded the AHCI preinstall drivers and loaded these using a flash drive. When I did Windows 7 would autodetect the ICH9 driver and I would click Next. Windows 7 would suddenly see the drive, but all options to format or create a partition are grayed out. Clicking the more info button gives me this error message:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
I used the AHCI preinstall drivers specific for the motherboard (Vista 64)  and I also tried the AHCI preinstall drivers from Intel for Windows 7 RC 64. As of this writing Intel has not released official Windows 7 RTM Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers.
In frustration I installed a SSD (with AHCI and Native SATA mode enabled) and suddenly Windows 7 detects the SSD without needing to load any driver (as would be expected, since Vista and 7 include Intel Storage Manager drivers by default already). I installed Windows 7 RTM 64bit onto the SSD without issue.
15 minutes later I was at the Windows 7 desktop, and Windows 7 was showing the Seagate 320GB hard drive under "My Computer" as normal. I could even use the Seagate hard drive as normal as if nothing was wrong. For kicks I launched the Windows 7 installer inside Windows 7, but as you can see below it still refused to see the drive, despite the drive being shown under My Computer:
    (Since I can't use thumbnails, here's the direct link: http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n129/Chanur64/Box/Howpossible.jpg )
Also I should note I previously had Windows 7 Beta installed on an IDE drive in this exact system, and had no problems with it. Windows 7 RTM would allow me to install to an IDE drive and allowed me to install to an SSD, but it cannot see and cannot install onto both Seagate 320GB hard drives. These Seagates are known good drives previously part of a RAID 5 array.
If anyone knows what is going on or has some ideas I've not tried I would love to hear from you and get this figured out. Suffice to say this is not a promising start for Windows 7.

I just had to solve the same issue with a Seagate Momentus Thin hard drive (
    http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/laptops/slim-laptop-hard-drives/)
Tried several BIOS configuration, AHCI drivers, etc and Windows 7 32bits couldn't detect the drive.
My solution was to boot with a USB pendrive with HirenCD tools (http://www.hiren.info/) and use a partition manager to erase disk contents, create and format a partition.
Windows 7 detected the hard drive for the first time and now is installing, so.. crossing fingers.
    Thanks,
    Diego
    Diego,
Thanks for the information and the link to Hiren.info!  I'm creating my bootable flash drive now.  I'll report back if I get this to work.
I had this same issue on a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 "laptop" hard drive.  I say "lap top" in quotes because it's actually in a desktop (HP Compaq Ultra-slim dc7800).  I believe it was an upgrade, so it took me a while to figure out what I was dealing
with until I finally took out the harddrive and checked what company made it!
    Thanks everyone!
