Satellite M35X-S349 doesn't start up

My laptop satellite M35X doesn't start up. I press the power button. Then the hard disk green light binks once. The fan or hard disk makes a sound for a couple second. Nothing is displayed in the screen.
Nothing happens after that. I've tried to boot from a CD, but the hot keys doesn't work (press power button, then "C").

Hi Sergio,
From your description of the problem I would suggest that you have a hardware problem on your notebook. The initial POST is failing when it checks your peripheral devices and this is preventing the BIOS from loading correctly. I would suggest you try to remove/reinstall the RAM modules, the Hdd and The Optical Drive. If the fault still persists then you will need to refer to a Toshiba authorised Service Partner for further diagnostics.

  • Satellite M35x-s349 - DVD-ROM Drive not reading

    I have a Satellite M35x-s349. I got it around late 2004.
It had this problem for a few months and I had submitted to not being able to read or write cd's/dvd's because I couldn't find my recovery discs. When the whole comp crashed I renewed my efforts, found them, restored it with the help of an external HD case, backed up and restored my comp. It was working great. I burned cds and watched movies with no problems for a couple months.
Now it has stopped reading any kind of cd again. I put one in and the little disc flashes next to my cursor. I hear movement inside (both whirring and the eye moving) but after about 20 seconds it gives up and claims there is no disc in the drive. I don't want to have to do another system restore but I can't even read the Restore disc to reinstall the driver. Are there any thoughts on why this is happening if not any solutions? Any way to reinstall the driver online? I'm a mid-level comp user so I can understand most tech jargon you throw my way. I can usually solve my own problems but this one seems hopeless.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    -Tom

A friend of me has a Satellite M30x. As far as I know this is the same model as you have but for the European market.
His CD/DVD drive was faulty and had problems to read the disk. He bought a second hand drive from eBay and exchanged it by his self. Now it works again and exchanging the drive was pretty easy.

  • Satellite A205-S4607 doesn't start after windows vista update

  • After BIOS update Satellite L350-172 doesn't start anymore

    Satellite L350-172 Bios-Update from bios-20090203164614 to bios-201002250
I just updatet the BIOS of my notebook from 1.60 to 2,20. Now the Notebook doesn't start any longer.
"It was stopped for reason not to damage the Computer" - blue schreen.
How can I downgrade the bios again? Or - what have I to change in the bios-settings?

    Hi schuwe,
Im a little bit confused about your posting. How do you tell your BIOS not to restart?
Anyway, after BIOS update you should load the default settings in BIOS.
Did you choose the right BIOS especially for your model?

  • My Satellite Pro C650 doesn't start or charge

    Hi,
    can someone please help me?!
I just purchased my Toshiba Satellite Pro C650.
Charged it for 16 hours, set it up and after restarting it went off and now it doesn't turn on of charge at all.

    Hi
Remove the batter and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Then wait some hours and connected both parts to the notebook again.
Then try to power up the unit.
If this will not help you, then I would recommend asking a notebook technician for an check. If there is no sign of life, then a serious hardware problem might be possible.

  • Satellite Pro C660 doesn't start-up

    Hi,
Have a satellite Pro C660, which has decided that it no longer wants to start up.
When the power on button is pressed the green power light comes on and the fan starts to whirr, however the laptop does not seem to go through the POST routine, and just turns itself off.
I have checked the RAM Modules, and the HDD for poor connections in the hope that the problem is a simple one, but to no avail.
I have managed to start the laptop previously by holding CTRL+ALT+DEL, when it sprang into life. But this trick now no longer works. I have also tried holding the F12 and/or the F2 keys on start up but the laptop still refuses to start.
I should mention that this laptop is not very old, less than six months, however if there is a simple fix as an alternative to returning it, I would rather try that first!
    Hope someone has a solution?

For such issues there is no some kind of magic solution.
Your problem description is OK but we dont know what have you dont in the past.
Such problems doesnt happen for no reason and maybe some action that you have done can be responsible for that.
It sounds like defective BIOS so can you please tell us since when have you this problem and have you maybe tried to update BIOS in the past?

  • Satellite L350D-200 doesn't start - blank screen

    Just like similar cases:
Switch on, hear the HD spinning, nothing else, screen stays blank, no BIOS
    Checked with external monitor
Removed battery AC for > 1 hour, doesn't help.
No SW/HW updates I'm aware off (other then the automatic updates)
Looks like a HW failure -> ASP?
    PZ

    Hi!
    > Looks like a HW failure -> ASP?
    Yes, it seems so! :(
Im not a notebook technician but you have all done what you can do: Removing battery for one hour and checked with an external monitor.
For me it sounds like a hardware malfunction
The Satellite L350 is a new notebook and I assume your notebook is still under warranty. So the repair should be for free.
I think its the best way because the notebook technician can check every hardware part of the notebook to determine what is causing this issue.

  • Satellite A500 - Windows doesn't start, how to recover now?

    Hello guys,
Recently , a week ago, i bought a new Satellite A500- 1HK. I installed everything and after i installed Office 2007, after the restart my PC stack on Windows 7 Logo. Pls notice that at this time a had an external HDD connected. That was my first mistake.
My second mistake was that after 5 minutes of inactivity i powered off my PC (not shutdown) and that was it. My PC totally crashed.
My third mistake was that i did not make recovery disks from the beginning and unfortunately i dont have recovery CDS. The recovery program its on a separate partition of my laptop.I tried to solve the problem as follows: I boot the PC, pressing F8 and i went to the repair menu. At the first time after the repair nothing was happened. after this i tried to proceed to the recovery option. i choose the US language and pressed enter. Nothing was happened. the screen shows an error saying: You must log in to access sytem recovery Options. If you are having trouble logging in , please contact your computer administrator for assistance. Click ok to restart the computer.
The only thing i imagine is that the recovery partition also crashed. What can i do now? I alrweady ordered the Recovery CD's from Toshiba and expecting them during the 2 next weeks.
What is your opinion . What happened? I hope that the rexcovery programm will work with CD'S and i will face no problem any more.
    Thank you.
    Leonardos

    Hi buddy,
    > I alrweady ordered the Recovery CD's from Toshiba
So in my opinion your question is already answered. Jus wait for the Toshiba recovery disk to restore factory settings.
If HDD recovery doesnt work, your only option is Toshiba recovery disk and now its time to wait for it. Im sure you will get the disk as fast as possible.
    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite L505-13X - Doesn't start at the first time

my laptop does not start at the first time I turn and I put it out several times that it starts

    Hello
    > thanks you my friend but my problem has not been answered yet. because i have more than one laptop and all have the same problem
For me it sounds like a software problem.
I mean if you have installed XP, nobody knows which drivers you have installed and applications. Everything could cause this issue and in this case you have to search for a solution yourself.
If you install the OS from Toshiba recovery disk and everything works properly, its not a hardware malfunction and not an issue of Toshiba.

  • Satellite A300 Vista doesn't starts - no cd/dvd with backup

    Hi Everybody
I have a big problem with Toshiba a300. Windows Vista doesnt's starts.
    Shows only menu with 2 options: first "fix the system" - when I choose this option 10 s later I see messeage: click OK to turn off the computer;
when I choose second option my laptop restart everytime.
I have tried after turn on computer to press f8, but all option from this menu do NOT fix the problem.
I have no CV/DVD for my computer.
After first starts I don't burn DVD with backup.
I really don't now how I can install system with recovery patriction. What softwere I need and how I must do it?
    Thanks for help

    Hi
The Sat A300 and other newer notebook models are equipped with the HDD Recovery option. This HDD recovery should allow you to recover the notebook without the usage of any disks.
In order to start the HDD recovery procedure you will have to press F8. Then choose the first option called Repair my Computer. Then new window will appear and there you have to choose Toshiba HDD recovery. Thats all.
But if this procedure wouldnt work (no matter why) then you will have to use the Toshiba Recovery disk. If you didnt create a recovery disk firstly and the notebook will not boot up then you will need to buy a Recovery disk from this page:

  • Satellite L650 - Windows doesn't start up

    Hey.
Today I was browsing some YouTube videos and chatting in Skype when my computer completely froze and after a few seconds a blue screen appeared for a while, saying something along " System has shut down to prevent damage"(something along those lines, in Portuguese, I apologize for the bad translation though).
After that a screen with my ip, mac address and other stuff and it kept trying to obtain TCIP (I think?) but it was always like ". . . . . ." and again " . . . . . . ". After that I restarted it a few times, trying to get past that screen, also it always took some time to get past the screen with Toshiba's logo. Then I pressed F12 and got into BIOS (i think?) and changed boot type to Fast (it was Normal before). After that I couldn't do anything else.
Now every time I attempt to start up the computer theres an underscore in the top left corner blinking and after a bit, when I press a key I hear a loud BEEP.
    What can I do?
    Thanks.

    Hi
It seems that something went wrong with the installed OS!
The blinking cursor means that the OS cannot be found and therefore the notebook does not boot the OS.
I guess you didnt create the recovery disk. Right?
Well, in such case you have to order the disk in order to install the Toshiba image.
Here you can order the recovery disk:

PS: is HDD recognized in BIOS?

  • Satellite L10-104 doesn't start after battery totally empty

    Hi,
after I left the laptop over the weekend without the AC charger the battery was totally empty. So I reconnected it to charge the battery for one day.
Now, when I press the power on button the green LED on the front illuminates for approx 3 seconds - nothing else happens. No HDD sounds, no coooling fan noise, nothing on the screen.
Does anyone have some ideas what I could do to make it run again?
    Thanks,
    Christian

    Hi,
I took out the battery for one day, put everything together and tried to start up - nothing.
Then I took out RAM, HDD and some other module that's accessible from underneath and put the power cord in, tried to start - nothing.
I even disassembled the whole notebook and hooked up only the motherboard with the power line (of course CPU, GPU and cooling fan were still attached) - still nothing. Only the green LED in the front lights up for 3 seconds.
My guess is - its time has finally come. However I never expected that after a complete discharge of the battery.
Thanks for your help. I'd appreciate if you have any other ideas and since the notebook is 5 years old I guess I will not take it to a service technician.

  • Satellite M35X-S349 need to hook up wireless

Hi; when I purchased this computer in 2004, I did not buy the antennae it required to be wireless. Now, I want to use its wireless capability, but am told that the antennae is not available for purchase. How do I utilize the wireless capability now? I have been using a router and modem. Thank you!

    Hi
This seems to be a Toshiab US notebook series.
Im not quite sure if its Wlan upgradeable.
    I think it isnt
However, the easiest way to upgrade this notebook for WLan purposes is the usage of an external USB WLan stick.
Such sticks are not expensive and you can install it very fast.
The configuration should be very easy.
I recommend usage of USB sticks which supports the 802.11 B, G or N standard.

  • Battery does not charge on Satellite M35X-S349

Hi, After fixing the DC plug, which was broken, the battery did not charge. When i plug my AC adapter the charge light (orange) stays on for 5 sec. then extinguishes. The computer can be operated without the battery (AC adapter plugged in). When i flip the computer over and measure the voltage from the pins going to the battery (battery not in) i measure from left to right :, ground, 5,7V, 5,7V, 0v, 3,8V, 3,8V, 1,7V. So there seem to be voltage enough to charge the battery.
My question, is my battery fault, is there a possibility that the charging circuit is faulty or did i not solder the DC plug correct (is that possible when the computer works without hiccups from AC adapter).
    thanks Olafur

    Hi,
I've just installed my new battery that I bought on e-bay for $75 and now my computer is charging. I opened the faulty battery to see if there were any faulty connectors. In short I did not find the fault in the battery. Inside there are 8 batteries connected in row of two times four ( 2 always parallel then in series with the next one) , measuring the batteries it looks like two of them are low on voltage but it would be too expensive to buy them for the experiment.
Also there is a charging circuit and on it there are some Power Mosfet, Lithium battery protection AFE and Battery Management IC. I took some pictures of the battery as I was opening it.
Anyway I am happy with the new battery.
I will thank you guys, Gipsyman, Joao, Jimi in answering my enquiry.
    Olafur.

  • After shut down Satellite P300-150 doesn't start anymore

I have a P300-150, it shut down a day or so ago mid-use. I thought it was just a protective thermal shut down as I'd had it on all day watching dvds / online tv. It wouldn't come back up straight away so I let it cool off for a while but it still won't come back up. Tried it battery in and battery out to no avail. I don't even get as far as POST/BIOS.
Anyone know the best course of action or other things to check? The PSU is working as my multi-meter sees a healthy 19-odd volts from it.
    Cheers.

Im afraid you need professional help with this so I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help.
There is no special key combination that will bring your notebook to the life again.
