Satellite M40-129 BSOD and does not boot correctly

Hi again.
I was working on my computer since my last question, but (almost) nothing changed.
To the problem:
My Notebook is booting, but only on very rare occasions.
What can happen:
- the screen stays black (almost 50% the case)
- The start screen (Toshiba- In touch with tomorrow) becomes visible and nothing happens then (40% )
- the notebook boots "properly" (10%)
if the notebook boot properly there are 2 options:
1st: I try to start Windows: it crashes with a bluescreen with the nice ask for an BIOS update.
2nd: I start SuSe Linux: EVERYTHING WORKS!
I tried to update the BIOS the traditional way and although it's hard to get it booted it works till short before the end and the computer restarts.
I see no confirmation screen as Im used to.
From this I asume, that the boot-problem is BIOS related.
I read of a BIOS recovery method with a floppy disk, where you copy the BIOS.ROM to the disk and start the notebook with the disk.
My question is: Is it also possible with an CD (have no floppy drive), if yes: how to do this?
I wanted to give it to a service point of Toshiba, but if they cannot fix it, I still have to pay 50Euro. I would pay the money for getting my BIOS restored, but the service point seems to be just a "delivery-service" to the true service point and I would like to speak with a qualified person first :)

Hmm you said you have already received the traditional BIOS files from the ASP in your country. So maybe you should take a look into this Toshiba document:

  • Satellite C660-2EV crashed with BSOD and does not boot

My Satellite laptop C660-2EV running Windows 7, for no apparent reason crashed to the blue screen of death, after which it would not reboot.
I have attempted to reboot in safe mode using the function keys but it gets as far as loading: windows\system32\drivers/classpnp.sys and then just sits there. From the various Internet posts it would appear that there is no definitive answer to this problem. Recommendation is to reload using recovery disks or the hidden image.
I cannot access the user manual as it is on the laptop so i have referenced the various posts on the internet. I had created repair and recovery disks when i purchased the laptop and so following various posts I booted my system with the repair disk and the process started.
Unfortunately the screens that appeared were different than those in the posts and as I do not have access to a user manual, I do not know if I am following the correct procedure.
Can anybody provide me with a PDF user manual for a C660-2EV laptop ?
Alternatively can anybody advise me how to reload Windows 7 ?
    Thank you in anticipation.

Users manuals document can be downloaded from http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_manuals.jsp
Anyway, if you have created recovery discs please start your notebook and press f12 to enter boot menu. When boot menu is shown on the screen put recovery disc 1 into optical disc drive and choose CD/DVD device as bootable device and press ENTER.
Installation should start. What you must do is just to follow menu on the screen. It must be similar as sown on http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm

  • Satellite A135 black screen and does not boot

I have a Satellite A135 running windows vista and I have not used it in over a year.
I have gone to use it today and it powers up but the screen is blank. I can't even see the bios.
I have tried the usual things connecting to a monitor , removed the ram chip from the back and tried a different one, I also tried ac power only with no luck.
Any ideas what it could be.
    Thanks for the help

    Hi
I have similar problems with the grey screen syndrome, I connected the computer to an external monitor and had to repeatedly reselect the monitor to PC as the monitor defaulted each time to AV1. Reselecting PC appeared to work. Best of luck, I have been grappling with this problem for months!

  • Mac has snow leopard and does not boot has grey screen

IMac has snow leopard and does not boot has grey screen

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • HT3964 my imac 27 display has 5 blue lines and does not boot up what is the problem?

My Imac 27 displays 5 blue vertical lines and does not boot up.  What could cause this?

I already anticipated the video card causing this issue.  This was confirmed today by Apple issuing a campaign indicating the AMD Radeon 6970M video cards are defectivce and will be replaced free of charge three years from date of purchase.  I looked at the new iMacs and found repairing them to be a nightmare.  So, once this p.o.s. is repaired, I'm selling it and purchasing an ABA computer.

  • Satellite M30-107 does not boot correctly after Recovery disk usage

    Hi
I've recently got hold of a second hand toshiba Satellite M30-107 laptop, and decided to freshen it up.
I used the toshiba recovery disk, but after doing so the laptop no longer loads windows.
When turned on it shows the Toshiba start up disk for about a second then goes to a blank screen and freezes.
When turned off and on again a screen comes up reporting an error in shutting down and gives the options to start in safe mode etc. but choosing any of the options causes the machine to freeze.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    jt

    Hi
Sounds a little bit like the notebook does not boot due to the Windows software issue
Did you recover the M30 with the original Toshiba recovery CD which was supplied with this M30 unit?
Maybe Im wrong but for me it looks like a wrong recovery CD was used and an image with non compatible drivers was installed
You could try to install the OS from original Microsoft Win XP CD and could check if it would be possible to get the notebook ruining using clean OS.
In such case we ( you and me ;) ) could find out if this issue could be related to the software or hardware.
    Bye

  • Satellite U305-S7432 freezes and does not respond sometimes using Win XP

    Hello.
    I have a Satellite U305-S7432 notebook.
Originally it came with Vista but I reformatted with XP Pro. I have installed all updates up to service pack 3.
My problem is that sometimes when I try to restart the computer it simply freezes and does not respond at all to any input. I notice that this happens if I close and later open the lid (meaning that the computer goes input standby mode and comes back).
Please note that the standby mode works perfectly fine and the computer leaves standby fine but afterwards when I try to restart, the computer will simply hang instead of restarting.
If it never enters standby mode, the restart takes place as expected.
I have installed all drivers and there are no question marks in Device Manager. I updated to the latest chipset driver from Intel (for the mobile 965) as well. Lastly, I also tried adding /forceresetreg to my boot.ini (as suggested by: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822624) but to no avail.
    Any ideas?

This is a Toshiba US notebook series and you should check the Toshiba US driver page for available drivers:
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
If you will not find the XP drivers at this page then you could try to install some single drivers for Sat U300 from the Toshiba European page but Im not quite sure if such XP drivers will run on you Sat U305. But its worth a try!
    Good luck

  • 21" iMac getting white screen and does not boot up

    Hi All!
This is my first time to post here but have been using Mac OS since 2009.
I am having issues with my  Mid 2011 iMac 21". I keep  getting a white screen and it does not boot up.
I am a bit technical so I have done all the necessary steps as below:
    1. Powercycle the system (Shutdown, unplug for 10 seconds and replug) = No go
    2. Reset NVRAM several times = No go
    3. Went to Safe Boot = Vertical white stripes on blue screen appears
    4. Tried booting on Recovery Disk = Vertical white stripes on blue screen appears
I'm thinking my video card is faulty now.
Any help guys? I hope my hard drive is not fried
What's worse, my 3 year extended warranty just expired last June and it's only been 3 months

First i can't send it back becuase it didnt have a warranty i purchased it on ebay. second the guy didnt send the install disks with it as he promised i have tried to follow up with him with no luck so hes been reported to ebay. and due to current buisiness expenses cant afford the new software. is there anything else i can do to at least boot the thing so i can figure out whats wrong with it. and has anybody experienced this before and if so how was the issue resolved. soooo frustrated as buisiness is at a stand still till this machine works. p.s.it has osx leopard latest version.

  • Satellite L300D-13S crashed and will not boot up

I received an alert on my Toshiba L300D -13S via the Toshiba Tempro alerts to download the latest BIOS update. I downloaded the update and started the install, during the install the PC crashed and froze for about 30 seconds the lost power completely.
Since this the laptop will not boot up, there is power to it as the battery and plug lights are on also when I press the power button the fan starts and the keyboard lights flash but then nothing. The laptop does nothing the fan runs for a short while and then powers off.
I'm no expert but in my opinion there must be something seriously wrong with it, any advice would be greatly appreciated. The laptop is still under warranty so as soon as I get some kind of confirmation that this a serious problem I can send it off for repair.

I contacted Toshiba's helpline and spoke to some one in the tech department, they said that the BIOS was corrupted during the update hence the problem with the start up.
Apparently this is not good and could result in a new motherboard if the BIOS cannot be flashed back to a non-corrupt state. I'm not overly technical when it comes to PC's, fortunately my laptop is still under warranty and is in the Toshiba repair centre as week speak. I did however research possible repairs for this fault and from reading forum posts as searched for on Google there are some things that you can try although they can be risky in terms of causing further damage.
The most eligible possible fix that I seemed to come across was to download a DOS boot file, the relevant BIOS file and a flash program, burn them to a CD then boot the laptop into DOS and run the flash program, re-flashing the BIOS.
**Again as stated before I'm no expert so please don't take the above as gospel, I'd look into it and make sure you get expert advice before going down this road.**

  • Satellite C55-A-1RG (PSCJGE) does not boot anything?

I've just bought this model today and it came win no OS installed and now I'm trying to install something on it so I can use it.
The issue is that it doesn't want to boot anything. I've tried Win7, Windows8 from DVD and USB and also downloaded Ubuntu and that did not worked either.
I did went to BIOS (or EFI I guess it's called now) and changed the boot order to DVD -> USB -> HDD but to no use.
Also secure boot is disabled. I even tried pressing F12 key and when prompted with the boot menu I've selected DVD and same no result. I just get no boot media recognized.
Any idea if there's anything that I can do to use my laptop?
    Thanks.

-Go to the Security tab and set the "Secure Boot" setting to "Disabled".
-Go to the Advanced tab, enter "System Configuration" and set the Boot Mode to "CSM Boot."

  • T 30 Power on and does not boot

I have a T 30 Thinkpad.  No changes have been made to any of the hardware.  When I turn the system on, it will attempt to power up.  When it does, it does not find the hdd.  This drive was removed and tested and the drive is good.  I have purchased a replacement drive and also installed it with the same results.  I have put the original drive back in.
Not having the expertise in troubleshooting, I have no idea where to go from here to repair the laptop.  Any suggestions of where I should look next?

Have you made sure that the drive is inserted properly, sitting correctly in the tray/caddy and is in all the way?

  • Satellite M40 - Teac DV-W28E does not burn CD or DVD

    G'day,
I have had problems with my dvd burner no longer working properly when trying to burn cd's, or dvd's. It is a model Teac DV-W28E and I would love to be able to get drivers for it to reinstall them, but I can't find them and when I try to do a web update it asks for the CD. Looking at the Teac website there are no drivers for this particular dvd burner there. Looking at the Microsoft website for support.....well the less said about that the better.
I don't know if I uninstall my dvd driver, then try to reinstall it that I will even be able to do it over the net due to the above mentioned reason of it asking for the installation cd.
Now I do not know if it is related, but I did follow the Toshiba update for my BIOS a while back and as I had not even tried to burn anything for a while I do not know if it had the issues before, or afterwards.
Generally it is not recognising the dvd burner as a dvd burner. If I drag and drop files to burn in explorer, then they do not show up to burn to a cd, or dvd. When trying to use Nero v6.0.0, then it will crash at the end when trying to write the final part of the file to the disc.
Does anyone know how to help me save the environment by not creating any more silver coasters/ wind chimes/ etc etc? Any ideas at all? I might just have to ditch the cow and get a generic replacement as I have started to need to burn for work backups and reports.
    TIA,
    Keiran

The CD/DVD drive does not use any special drivers.
It uses the simply Microsoft Windows drivers and the drive should be recognized automatically after removing.
If you have any problems with writing on the CD/DVD then I assume it could be an hardware problem like lens calibration or something like that.
But firstly you should check different options which could be responsible for the burner malfunction
In the drive properties (right click -> properties) you will find the Recording tab.
There you should enable the option Enable CD recording on this drive if you use the drag and drop for file burning.
I would also recommend using only one burning application on the OS.
The Nero is a nice program. I use it too

  • X86: Solaris does not boot correctly?

I have installed Solaris on a second hard disk.
When I boot my computer on the second hard disk, I get the Solaris 10 emergency booting system which tries to find out on which hard disk I would like to boot Solaris 10.
Is there a possiblity to save my settings once for all time?
Because on every time I boot, I got the Solaris emergency boot manager to rechoose the disk on which I should boot.

Since a similar thing happens after other updates, it probably is not directly related to "uninstalling google desktop."  Does the same thing sometimes happen when you do a regular restart (with no update or uninstall)?
You can try doing a SMU (power management) reset.  Before you do that, reset PRAM.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, follow this procedure precisely to reset the SMU
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1767
When you reconnect the power cord, if you were using an power strip of some kind (especially if it's old or overcrowded), try connecting it directly to a wall outlet by itself (at least initially).  Start it up with only the power cord connected, then (if it starts up normally), add only standard USB keyboard and mouse.  Use it that way for a while to see if there's improvement.  If it's better, add your other peripheral devices back, one at a time, to see if the problem returns.

Welcome to arch.  I suspect this is the problem:
outschi wrote:I created a bootable USB stick with Universal USB Installer on a Windows System.
The error message you get is the same as those encountered by people who try to use unetbootin (eg here).  I know Unetbootin does not work to create bootable arch media - perhaps the windows tool also doesn't.
Did you see and follow the tip here?  It seems that tool will create working usbs, but you have to fix the label.

    Hi
The same happens on my brothers notebook because the files and sectors on the HDD were corrupted. This is happened after trying changing the partitions size.
I have booted from the original Microsoft Windows booting CD and went to the reparation console. I think you have to press the R to start the reparation in the Windows setup.
Then in the reparation console I have used the chkdsk /r option to solve this problem.
And I was successful try it!
