Satellite M40: Win XP install after system crash- ser.number problem

Hello there,
i would like to ask you what shall i do. I bought new toshiba satellite m40 laptop about 5 years ago in London.
There was no Win XP recovery cd (no recovery partition on hdd as well), just cd with toshiba drivers in the box. Now my system crashed.
Took me long time to figure out what it was. (BSOD - "not ACPI compliant") I tried almost everything even HDD format.
Later on i completely dismanteled laptop, cleaned the dust inside and it works again - no BSOD.
Now i need to install my WinXP back. So i downloaded WinXP service pack 3 cd-rom and tried to install it.
It wont take my serial number which i have on a sticker on my toshiba.
Please help me, what shall i do?
I paid for WinXP (system was included in price) and now i cannot use it.

Well, i was in London just few months when i bought that laptop. The guy in the store told me the box include everything - it was the way they got it. I didn't know how it works in London (well except the robb of in an exchange office on victoria train station first day and another one paying for a laptop in Computer store which had branches all around London and the company crashed and did not pay me back) and it was my first (delivered) laptop as well. Of course i asked why there is no Win XP cd (or recovery). I used to have many destops before starting with old good 386@20MHz. I was very well aware that i really need installation cd of windows, do remember loads of system crashes of Win95 and Win98. Maybe somebody took it out of the box, who knows. I am just 100% sure it was not there. So i reconciled myself with it, was a newbee there, didn't want to make problems. My fault. Another one was not buying recovery program (or use of that toshiba recovery creator) to make image of hdd. Those days imaging system was quite a new thing as well-at least for me. Few days ago I tried toshiba support web to find recovery cd, even e-bay, etc. to find and buy it. No chance. I can try to call Toshiba UK support centre, but i guess it will be the same answer.
You wrote your friend has got one as well, is it the type -225 ? Full name of it is: Toshiba satellite m40 -225. Different number means different hardware, but recovery cd of your friend might be compatible. Would it be possible to ask him to give/sale me an image of that disk? Toshiba support in my country cannot provide help or further info, is not comparable with the UK or US one. But thank you guys for answering me anyway! :-) Any idea welcomed.
EDIT: BSOD (not ACPI compliant) is unfortunatelly back, laptop works just in really cold (-10 C) environment. Restoration CD would be logical step to go.

  • Windows won't install after system crash

My computer crashed a couple days ago (the atlon 64, of course), i think due to a virus.  I have fdisked and reinstalled several times.  Once it completed, but after i left it for a while (about 1 hour) i came back, it had restarted and was missing a .dll.  Multiple times it would hang at the "setup will complete in approximately: 39 minutes" screen, sometimes right away, sometimes after doing a partial install.  I am not a computer genius, but have exausted my ideas.  So what are yours?

    Hi
I have seen my PCs sit for half an hour at 39 mins to complete, then suddenly find the device or driver they are looking for and continue, breathing on CD, and wiping with silk cloth can help reading.
Go and watch TV for a while when it  does it, or another copy of XP.
    Cheers

  • Please help: fail to recover after system crash

    Hi all,
I tried to start our directory server after system crash due to hardware failure. Error log shows:
    [17/Apr/2010:01:35:15 +0800] - WARNING<20488> - Backend Database - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Detected Disorderly Shutdown last time Directory Server was running, recovering database.
However, the recover process seems never ends (I waited overnight...). While CPU usage of ns-slapd grows continuously, the server has no response (e.g. ldapsearch waits forever). I make copies of db before starting ns-slapd and thus I tried several attempts:
    1. start as it is.
    2. remove db/log* and start
    3. remove db/log* and db/__db* and start
    4. remove db/* except db/NetscapeRoot and start
All attempts have the same result - recovery goes on continuously.
Then I tried to remove db/* and run restoreconfig with an old configuration backup. Then ns-slapd can be started. However, when I do ldapsearch testing:
    ldapsearch -h localhost -v -D"cn=directory manager" -b "" -s base objectclass= namingContexts
    ldap_init( localhost, 389 )
    Bind Password:
    ldap_simple_bind_s: Invalid credentials
I'm sure the password is correct, and also tried modifying nsslapd-rootpw in config/dse.ldif and corresponding userPassword in configuration file created by saveconfig before restoreconfig.
Again, all attempts have the same result - invalid credentials. I can see BIND cn=directory manager attempts in logs/access, but also see following line in logs/errors:
    [17/Apr/2010:21:59:08 +0800] - INFORMATION - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - get_entry: entry cn=directory manager not found (error 32)
    I'd like to know:
    * if there any other method to make recovery process complete successfully?
    * if there is anything missed/wrong in the restoreconfig process?
I tried several days but can't make it. Would anyone please help?
Sorry that we're still using old versions 5.2 patch 5 on Solaris 5.9 on v440 machines...
    Thank you very much.
    /ST Wong ([email protected])

I hope you have a export of LDAP data backup in LDIF format, if so, please stop the instance and remove all the files from your db directory which includes .db3 and log.* and __db* and then do a ldif2db.
Once import is complete, start the slapd process.

  • Workflow continue after system crash.

    Dear Workflow expert,
I have customized the standard leave request workflow to a 2 level approval  workflow. However, sometimes the workflow will suddenly stop without any error and I need to go to tcode SWPC (execute workflow after system crash) to continue the workflow.
Anyone can tell me in what circumstances that the workflow will fall into this category, because it like happens quite frequently.
    Thanks

  • Cannot reinstall after system crash

Acrobat 7.0 Pro, Win XP Pro SP3
System disk crashed. I have to reinstall every app. Cannot install Acrobat because I have an upgrade CD. I have been upgrading for donkey's years, and doubt I could even find the original (CD? floppy disk?) for whatever version I started with. The install dialog for 7.0 gives a phone number to call; that number is not in service. I tried live chat; was told that I had to have the serial number for 6.0. I provided that number, and received no further communication; after half an hour waiting, I gave up and closed chat. I tried live chat again, and this time was informed that live chat could not help me with this problem.
If anyone has gone through reinstallation successfully, please suggest what I might try next, other than give up on Adobe and use some other product, which is not an option.

Generally I think that as long as you are registered with Adobe, you can call them and get the information you need. I am sure someone else will tell you which of the several numbers you should use. Bill

  • K8N neo Platinum Win XP SP2 random system crashes/Blue screen

I have recently built a new pc with the items as listed in my signature.  Some of the compontents were new (RAM, HDD and VIdeo) and some were second hand (CPU, M/B, Keyboard and Mouse).   I found that when I install WIN XP the system seems ok.  But after I install any SP1 or SP2  which are required to run the USB2.0 my system crashes randomly and I get a windows blue screen and an auto restart.  in the last week it sometimes lasts a day or so then it crashes.  Other times it will crash within 5 minutes of start-up.  I found a forum topic about a similar problem the other day but when I went looking for it again I couldn't find that topic.  In that topic there were comments about PSU's and their ability to run the K8N Neo Platinum.  In my specs are my PSU details.  Can anyone advise if my PSU may be the problem or if there is any other problem.
I have made a WIN XP boot disk with SP1 and I have an SP2 disk I was given by a PC shop.  If you are able to help or need further info to be able to help please let me know.
    Regards

i had random shutdowns and blue screens until i uninstalled core center
    LOL!
Yet another reason NOT to use Core Center!
This ought to have it's own sticky - Experiencing random reboots & blue screens? Uninstall Core Center first!

  • How to Recover a running composites after system crash?

The Weblogic server has unexpected restart while some long-time composites were running.
After Weblogic started again, those composites had state "Running". But nothing changes. They never neither finish neither fault.
Is there a something necessary to configure in weblogic, or composites to successfully continue all running composites after system start-up after a crash?

    Hi there,
please have a look at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15586_01/integration.1111/e10226/bp_mang.htm#BABCEIBC.
In section "13.4 Performing BPEL Process Service Engine Message Recovery" you can read how a manual recovery of undelivered invoke or callback messages due to a transaction rollback in the process instance can be performed. Please have a look an let me know if it helpful for you.
    Best regards,

  • File restore after system crash?

I recorded several videos on my iPhone yesterday. One was 28 minutes long (almost 3 GB) so I deleted them from my phone as soon as I copied it into iPhoto. I was viewing the videos in iPhoto when my system crashed. After rebooting, the movies were gone.
Is there any way these movies can be recovered? They've got to be on the hard drive somewhere.

Try using a data recovery product such as the ones listed here. Don't write anything else to the drive until the files are recovered or you choose not to recover them.

  • Lost all Subclips from project after system crash

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and tried to find an answer but I'm not seeing it so I apologize if this is covered somewhere else.
I've been using Premiere Pro (CS4) for a couple of years.  I've made extensive use of SUBCLIPS for projects and I found they helped organize the building a complex sequence in several documentaries and they have worked well for me - until my system crashed. While the project opens and I find all media, I find that all SUBCLIPS are gone.  Have I lost them forever?  Can they be recovered?
I have built a new system and installed my old data hard drives, but I have a newly loaded C-drive.  I am running Windows 7 on both the new and the dead system.  I can still extract data from the old C-drive if needed.
I am wondering just how Subclips are stored.  They do not appear to be files – where do they live?  Can they be transferred?
I would really like to avoid the number of hours it will take to rebuild those subclips.
    Thanks!

  • Problems Accessing Photos After System Crash

    Hi,
Last night my system inexplicably crashed after working fine all day. I called Applecare, and they told me to clear everything and start from scratch. I had just used backup the night before so everything came over fine. I'm just having problems with my photos.
How I noticed my system crashed was that my iPhoto library disappeared, and when I went to open the files manually, they would not open either, saying they were corrupt. I went to DiskUtility and it wouldn't fix it either, so that's how I had to reboot everything from my backup drive.
So I open iPhoto and the pictures seem to be there, but they are "squished." When I click on them to open, the edit screen is blank. My albums also did not survive the reinstall (even though my playlists from iTunes did). I went to open some photos directly from my "iPhoto Library" folder, and they open fine in Preview. So I thought I would trash all the fake pics currently in iPhoto and import the good ones over. When I try to do that, it says the photos are unreadable or corrupt, but they work fine in Preview! (which they did not last night before I reinstalled post-crash).
Please help me save my 4000 photos!

It may not be a 'glitch' in the actual update so much as it could be that the update did not go through correctly.
Restoring the device as suggested is the best way to isolate exactly where the issue lies.
You can start with a first step of attempting a Hard Reset (Home Button + Sleep/Wake Button for 5-10s), however if this does not rectify the issue the next step is to attempt a Restore or alternatively force an update again of the device.

  • AirPort partially broken after system crash

Hi, before my system crash which caused me to force reboot it. My Internet Sharing from my Ethernet-to-computer-using-AirPort worked fine.
Now. the Internet Sharing doesn't work because:
No "Arrow Up" icon on top my AirPort icon on menu bar, I tried to uncheck then check "Internet Sharing" in Sharing preference pane but it still doesn't show up.
"AirPort" network not showing up under the menu of Stat menu. Normally there's when AirPort was turned on.
However the AirPort menu could detect secured wireless network from my neighbor.
Here is the screenshot of my Network, I don't know what does yellow light next to AirPort indicated or if it's normal? I repaired permission and it doesn't help.
    http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k290/chrisf77/AirPort.jpg
    Anyone has a clue? thanks!

    Obviously it's a bug.
Previously I was using Chinese as the system language.
After I switch back to English, the Internet Sharing can't understand the Chinese text(亿太网:Ethernet) that were remain selected in the Internet Sharing preference. I have to reselect it to make things work.

  • Installing after a crash

When I reinstalled CS6 after a crash, it is telling me that its not genuine software. How do I reinstall?

It happens after I have already put in the Serial number and it has accepted it.
Then it seems to start the installation. Then at some point it comes up with:
"The product you are trying to install is not a genuine Adobe Software and appears to be counterfeit. Please report piracy or contact customer support for assistance."
When I click on Customer support the only option I seem to have is this forum. Pretty poor customer service, I'd say. No phone number or chat without paying bundles of money, after having paid bundles already for the software. I am not pirating and this is genuine software. So please do something.
Somewhere it said you have to deactivate a program and then activate again after a crash. Well please tell me how on earth you deactivate when your computer completely dies, and you cant do anything with it. Luckily I had a backup, but basically am starting from scratch with installing programs. Adobe is the only one that is so tight fisted it gives me problems and offers so little support. I am very frustrated, I have work to be done, and I'm losing time with this nonsense.
