It's a long shot, but unplug it from the AC, pull the battery and hold the start button down for 10 - 15 seconds.  Replace the battery and plug in the AC and try again.  If that doesn't work, you're probably going to have to have it serviced by a Toshiba ASP from the list you can get to by clicking the 'Repair' link at the top of the page.

I just got my computer [Satellite M45-S169] back from a friend who had it for 2 weeks and when i turn my computer on and it starts to load but then gos to the "we apologize for the incovenience, but Windows did not start properly" page.  So i hit F8 and go to advanced settings and disable the restart on system failure. It starts to load but stops half-way and then goes to so weird blue screen that says
    STOP:  c0000218  {Registry File Failure}
the registry cannot load the hive (file):

    or its log alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

the registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE
Bad news. The Software hive is a vital branch of the registry. Without it, Windows will not run.
Unless you had provided in advance to restore the registry, you would need to be especially proficient technically to recover from this.
How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting
You will probably need to restore the hard drive to an earlier state.
Do you need to access important files first?

  • I cannot Install Toshiba Power Saver on my Satellite M45-S169 - Code: Ox7E

I cannot Install/reinstall/remove/run Toshiba power saver on my Satellite M45-S169. after I have reinstalled the system (now it is Windows XP Professional SP2). When I tried to open Power saver via control panel I got accessed denied and every time I reboot the system I get the error message:
    Toshiba Power Save
A fatal error has occurred. This programme will be terminated.
    Code: Ox7E
I cannot neither remove nor reinstall power saver. Can I try to run power saver for Windows XP SP2 applicable for other laptop models? I could not find the one for my model. Which one will fit? Any other solutions/advises to the problem?
    Please, help
    Thank you a lot, Oksana

    Hi
First of all you have to known that this notebook was designed for the US market and all drivers, tools or any other Toshiba utilities should be used from the Toshiba US website.
    http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_home.jsp
Please ensure that you have already installed Toshiba ACPI Common Modules before you will continue with any further Toshiba software installation.
One important hint; the Toshiba power saver profile must be chosen in the Windows power options!!! Dont forget this!!!

  • Satellite M45-S169 PSM43U: need to connect to a serial & parallel port

    Hello!
I have an old model of Satellite and I need to connect it with a machine that has old fashioned entrences, with pins (mother and father) and was told that I need a replicator (serial and paralell).
Now, I'm very confused because I'm not technical so please advise me on two things: is there something that does such thing? (usb to old fashion pins) and if there is I really need to buy it (so please pusrchase details).
Sorry if I've been so bad at describing what I need. I'm an electronist and am working with big machines therefore I need to connect my laptop to the machine;s software.
    Thank you

Hmm. The new-age generation notebooks dont support the serial or parallel ports
Therefore youve got not many possibilities to connect a older devices to a notebook which was not equipped with the serial or parallel port.
As far as I know there are some USB-to-serial or USB-to-parallel port adapters.
Google a little bit and Im sure you will find some good offers.
But note; I read somewhere that not all adapters work properly you will have to investigate a little bit.
    Good luck

  • Satellite M45-S169 drive upgrade question

Newbie to the forum, but old hand at digging into computers. However, last time I checked my particular laptop could only handle a ATA 70GB hard drive. Looking through the Toshiba website putting my model and unit numbers in they say I can take up to a 320GB hard drive. Is this true? And if so, are there any particular additional items needed to complete the install and getting the BIOS to recognize same? Any hurdles or helpful hints? Thanks in advance for any help sent!

  • Satellite M45-S169 - Overheats and upgrading RAM/graphic card

    Hello,
I need a few answers and reassurance to the questions I have about my laptop. Here are the following questions:
The laptop overheats fairly fast which by this I mean in about 10min or so, the laptop is burning up. Is it the model or is there something wrong with it? I can't keep the laptop on without keeping it plugged into the wall at all times. Does this have anything to do with my battery as in I need a new one?
Am I able to install new RAM* (2GB Max) and if so, does anyone know how much slots there are for this model? (Haven't really opened it up to check because I'm bad at putting things back together after taking them apart)
Am I able to install a new graphics card for the laptop or am I stuck with the ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M Series? (and if it's not too much to ask, is the graphics card I have good, bad, or so-so)
Sorry if there are too much questions but it would be really nice if I get answers to all of them.

    Hi Honu_2,
1.) You should clean your notebook using compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and read this article please:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=40
2.) Yes, it seems that you need a new battery if your notebook only works with connected AC/DC adaptor.
3.) You should check your user manual. As far as I know this model supports up to 2GB RAM. That means you can install 1GB in both slots.
4.) Upgrading the graphic card is not possible since its soldered/fixed on the mainboard and your notebook is only designed for preinstalled graphic card.
By the way: All these questions are already answered here. Check the forum for similar threads, you will find a lot of interesting stuff! ;)

  • Satelite M45-S169 Memory Slots

I have a Satellite M45-S169 Laptop. It came with 512mb of Ram. I purchased 1gb of Ram and replaced the 512mb because I did not see the 2 Memory slots the User Manaul talks about. Could someone tell me where the 2 memory slots are?

    Satellite M45-S169
The two memory modules are right next to each other (Slot A and Slot B).
See the section Adding memory (optional) beginning on p. 55 of the User's Manual.

  • Satellite M45-S165 New Battery won't charge past 25%

    Hello,
This is a Satellite M45-S165 running Windows XP SP2.
I just put in a new battery from Technuity sold at Circuit City. Followed the instructions and let it charge for 10 hours before using it. The laptop was turned off while charging.
Turned on the laptop and Toshiba Power Saver said that the battery was only charged to 25%. It just won't let it charge any more than that.
I shut down TPS from the task manager and opened the Windows power meter on the control panel. After running on just the battery for a while I tried to recharge it. But the windows power meter is showing that the battery is charging, but that is stuck at 3%.
The battery is new, so any idea about what is keeping it from charging completely?
    Thanks.

    Hello
At first I must say that you have done everything correctly and this issue is probably not because of the battery (I hope you bought the right one). The question is is there some problem with power supply electronic.
You must understand that it is not easy to offer simply explanation to such issues and to find out what is wrong there it is necessary to run diagnostics program and check power supply electronic functionality.
This can be done by authorized service provider only. So you must make decision what to do. Make a call and ask them what can be the reason for this. Inform you what can be done with it. What else you can do?

  • Satellite M45-S355 and DVD Burning

I have a Satellite M45-S355 laptop and have never tried to burn DVDs until now. I know it has a Mat****a UJ-831s driver/burner.
I am not able to find any DVDs under 16x for their speed. How do I burn onto these types of DVDs?
When I even try to format a disc, etc, the computer says that CD/DVD-R are not supported by this version of DLA.
    Any help would be great!

    Hi
If you want to burn data on the DVD then I would recommend using an 3rd party software like Nero burning ROM
I use Nero and Im satisfied.
Furthermore I recommend checking the registry and to remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Last but not least you can use DVDs which can be burned with higher speed but I recommend burning the DVDs with the lowest speed I do it with 1x speed.
    Cheers

  • Satellite M45-S331 - iLink Port not Working

My Toshiba Satellite M45-S331's iLink port is not working. I am trying to stream high quality video from my Sony Digital 8 DCR-TRV350 to my laptop, but the laptop does not read the camcorder when using the iLink cable. The cable is fine because my father's laptop can read the camcorder using the same cable. I went to device manager and it says that the IEEE 1394 Bus host controller is working, yet it won't read the camera. The laptop reads it just fine using USB. I contacted Sony and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the iLink capture card, but I am not completely sure how to do that or if it will even work. Has anybody else had similar problems, and if so how was it solved (if it was ever solved)? Thanks for any feedback.

    Satellite M45-S331
they told me to uninstall and reinstall the iLink capture card, but I am not completely sure how to do that
Do it this way. In Device Manager (devmgmt.msc), right-click the 1394 Host Controller, and click Uninstall. Reboot Windows to reinstall it.
I too don't know whether that will solve the problem.

You may want to look once again.  On some models, there are two slots stacked atop each other.

    Hi
Possibly just this particular recovery disk cannot be read by the CD/DVD drive.
Copy/burn the Recovery disk to another disk which can be handled buy the CD/DVD drive.
I made good experience with TDK R disks.
Use another computer to copy this disk and then try to boot using this new disk

  • No sound when playing video from iTunes on a Satellite M45

    Hi,
After trying to play a video from iTunes on a Toshiba Satellite M45, the entire sound system went out. I think there is something wrong with the sound drivers or it/they can't be detected. I'm new to the PC world and any help in easy-to-understand terms will be grateful. Is there any destinations where I can download a new driver.
I need to fend off the insanity that's creeping in. Thanks.
    Caden

    Hi
I think you should firstly check the device manager if there are any yellow exclamation marks near to the sound card.
If yes so the sound driver reinstallation could help.
It seems that the notebook was designed for the US market. (because of the 5 at the end of the number)
So I think you should take a look on the US Toshiba site for driver updates.

  • Satellite M45-S331 Laptop; ACPI Bios in this system is not fully compliant

Can you please help w/ a booting problem?  I installed a new HD (WD Scorpio Blue PATA 160 GB) in a Satellite M45 Laptop; then imaged using the Toshiba Recovery and Apps DVD to Windows XP.  (DVD labeled TK143/PMAE00213012).  During re-image, the first displayed text/first routine said "Windows 98"; but the final image was Windows XP.  That seemed odd, almost like the image was an "update" from 98 rather than a fresh XP image; or perhaps it's nothing at all...
When powered on, it progresses past POST to the TOSHIBA screen, pauses, then displays this Blue Screen:
"The bios in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit www.hardware-update.com for an updated bios. If you are unable to obtain an updated bios or the latest bios supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable ACPI and allow you to continue your installation."
    Technical information:
    ***STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000011, 0x00000006, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256841
The "F7 trick" (from above) doesn't seem to work, but I'm not positive the right time to touch the F7 key.  hardware-update.com is not running anymore.  I'm not sure what BIOS I have, but thought I saw 2.0 at an error screen. Is there a new BIOS to fix this?
After a crash, I get the option of booting to "safe mode", which I usually take.  It still gets the blue screen.  What do I do do get this machine to run?  Thanks in advance for the help!!

Hey there, have a question for you...
I have the same issue that you do, on my flex 2-15 ideapad. You mention that you were able to get windows 7 to install and boot on your ideapad.
HOW did you accomplish this one?? I am at a loss... Windows 7 starts to boot, but freezes as soon as the animation begins.
Maybe I could help you (not positive, but will try) with your issue if we could figure out what to do about my BiOS.
