Satellite M70-WiFi connection just with WEP or WPA

Hi,
I have the Satellite M70-164 with an Intel PRO set wifi adapter 2200BG with the latest driver.
My problem is that I can only connect to networks with security (with WEP or WPA), when I try to connect to "open" wifi networks the computer never establishes the conection, it says is "waiting for the network".
Any help will be appreciated.
Pedro

Hello Pedro
Try to use Restore Factory Default on your router settings and try again. I use WLAN for a long time and I have never heard about something similar but with Intel 2200 BG wireless card everything is possible. I have read many different topics about different issues with this card.

  • Any wifi connection problems with new Macbook Pro 13" models?

I currently use a 15" Macbook Pro (about 3.5 years old) that has intermittent WiFi connection issues (intermittently loses signal). This seems to have been a very common problem with this laptop model. My kids, who use Macbooks, have no connection problems. In any case, I'd love to buy one of the new model 13-inch Macbook Pro's but hesitate because of my many issues with WiFi connectivity on my older Macbook Pro. Just wondering if anyone is experiencing connectivity problems with the new model?

I've never had Wifi connection problems with a Macbook and now with the 13" MacBook Pro I was flabergasted when I took my MacBook down the street to a coffee house with free WiFi. I went to connect to their WiFi and found my own WiFi connection listed. I thought this odd even though I was on the same block as my apartment, my apartment is six stories up. I connected to the Coffee Shop WiFi but it was really slow so I wondered if I could connect to my own home connection. I switched it over and lo-and behold I did connect! It was a good 300 feet away! I NEVER saw this with previously owned MacBooks including the black MacBook and the MacBook offered just before they moved the MacBook up to the Pro series.
So I'd say they have improved the WiFi nicely.

  • Why won't Apple fix the wifi connectivity problem with the iMac and new OS instead of just havin us go through hours of useless mock fixes!

I have spent hours with apple care about this problem with wifi connectivity.  According to all the posts I'm not alone.  I love my new IMAC
but i'll be glad to go back to my PC just so I can get my email without all the headaches.  It seems that Apple has lost interest in
the IMAC and all of the problems associated with the new OS.

Keep in mind that ASC is where people go to get help, so yes, you are seeing reports of people who are having WiFi connection issues. But while it might seem like there are lots of people having trouble, given the sheer number of iMacs in use, it is a very small number. Also keep in mind that WiFi isn't totally under Apple's control. There are dozens of WiFi routers. Even worse, the manufacturers of WiFi routers often release firmware upgrades to fix flaws without ever informing the consumer. And just to add to the confusion, while WiFi 801.2 n routers have been sold for several years, for most of that time there was no agreed upon standard!
So if you'd like help, first, what router do you have and have you checked the vendor site to see that it has the latest firmware?

  • Wifi connection issues with Home Hub 5

Hi can any body help because I am starting to get very frustrated with the Home Hub 5 and it's wireless connection.
infinity 2 was installed at my house in the beginning of September, everything worked Ok for three weeks then for no apparent reason the hub kicked out all of my wireless devices (phones, kids iPods, tablets etc) at 6:45 one morning. When I got home from work I rang BT and was told to perform a Pin reset. This seemed to work but less tham 48 hours later at exactly the same time in the morning the hub kicked out all of my devices again, this time I just pressed the restart button on the top of the hub and everything reconnected but the Wifi range within my house had dropped. A few days later the hub kicked all my devices out again (each time it has done this the light on the hub has remained blue showing it is supposedly working OK)
One evening this week the hub of its own accord cycled through all the colours of lights indicating problems and that it was restarting. Today at 10:15 the hub kicked all my Wifi devices out again. I have contacted BT every time this has happened and told them about the poor range of the Wifi signal.
I do not want to be restarting/resetting my Hub every couple of weeks i need a permanent solution.
One of the reasons I switched from TalkTalk to BT when fibre became available was the fact that the Home Hub 5 was supposed to be the best provided router by any of the networks, being the only one that is an AC class router. The thing costs £130 if you want to by one. Quite frankly the £60 TP-Link dual band router I bought when I was with TalkTalk had a better range and was more stable. I would switch back to that if I knew BT's router settings (but they like to keep that a secret)
I really am beginning to regret switching from TalkTalk. Please someone restore my faith in BT.
Sorry for the lengthy rant but I hope you can understand why I've ranted for so long.
    Nick

    Hi imjolly
Sorry its taken a while to reply to your post.
I wanted to try BT's latest attempt at a solution before i tried your idea.
Since your reply the Home Hub 5 has dropped the Wifi connection to my devices another three times.
The second time less than 30hours after BT's so called fix, which was to make sure the 5Ghz channel was not syncing with the 2.4Ghz channel. Tonight it went again and BT's response was to take the router out of smart channel selection and manually select channel 9,6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 36,40,44 or 48 on 5Ghz. Well I havent even bothered with that, if the prats at BT would look at their records they would see they have already suggested that.
This HH5 is the most unreliable piece of garbage i have ever had the misfortune to use. WHY OH WHY did I leave TalkTalk
I have tonight tried your solution. Fingers crossed that this works.

  • Satellite M70: WLAN connection lost

    Hello!
I have Satellite M70 and I use integrated Intel WLAN card 2200bg. I have the latest drivers downloaded from Toshiba web site and Asus WLAN router w520g with latest firmware. Connection signal is excellent but sometimes actually very often connection is lost for 5-10 seconds.... I am downloading files all the time so there is no idle time in network traffic.
How can I inspect what is reason for losting connection?
Could authentication method or channel mode be a reason for problems?

    Hi!
I updated my driver(latest one from intel website) and problem still exists. But now with Intel Wireless utility I can see error messages when connection goes down. I also opened support case to Intel about this problem. Let's see what they suggest.
I have also tested different kind of variations of configurations (power settings etc.) but no helps!
Now I am testing WLAN connection without authentication and it seems to work ok without connection lost. I will test different kind of authentication methods because i really want to see what authentication causes problems.
One thing I can say more. If I want to see connection break as soon as possible, I have to generete traffic with different kind of p2p programs and I also ping my router (default gateway) with command ping -t -l 1500 same time.

  • Late 2013 15" Retina Macbook Pro - wifi connection timeout with one router

    Hi,
I've recently purchased a new Macbook Pro retina 15 inch late 2013 model. Everything is fine at home, but at work I cannot connect to one wireless router (Netgear WAG102). The computer tries to connect but I get a connection timeout error after a few seconds for every attempt.
I have tried every suggestion for wifi issues that I can find on the forums, and have reset the router.
A colleague has also recently purchased the same computer except 13 inch model - he has exactly the same problem.
Any suggestions? I suspect given that two of us have the same problem that there is an incompatibility with the MBP and this particular router. I notice that there are quite a few discussions about similar issues with the macbook pro.

I too have a MBP Retina, 15", late 2013, and am having wifi connection issues.  I've tried several fixes suggested on these discussions and by Apple.  Nothing corrects the problem.  I've been told it's my router, but I find that difficult to believe give that my wife has a MBP 13" 2012 (non retina), that has no issues at all, nor do our iPhones.  It's just my MBP Retina.
My issue seems to be when waking from sleep, I lose the wifi connection.  I have to turn wifi of then on again, and it reconnects.  The only thing that corrects the problem for me is when I disable bluetooth.  I have the magic mouse and it's basically useless becuase I need bluetooth on for it to work.
I find this to be an annoying problem.  This is my first MacBook, and I really like it, but this wifi thing is bad.  Never had this problem with my Windows machines.

  • Anyone else having repeated wifi connectivity issues with the OSX version 10.8.5?

I just updated the software on my iMac to OS X version 10.8.5. Now I am having repeated connectivity issues with the wifi in my house. This is the only device that is having these issues. My phone, ipad and tv are not having any problems at all.
It happened immediately following the update. I was sending emails and browsing before the update without a problem.
    from apple:

I had a message like that last week - only it asked what browser I would be using - I just quit safari - purges caches etc - and at that time noticed I was getting RSS feeds through PUBSUB - tracking them down to the top sites view I never use - I deleted all of the top sites (most of which I don't go into so it must have been a preset) that included MSN and Google - I don't use google so that was pointless.  (deleting a top site means you are blocking it from that page)    Have not had the message since so it must have had something to do with top sites activity.
Just a note:  Did see somewhere probably BBC tech - that Google was going to stop supporting older web browsers.

  • Wifi Connectivity issues with a 2008 Apple Macbook

Hi I have had BT Total Broadband for 14 months with constant issues in relation to the Wifi connectivity on my Apple Macbook.  I got Infinity installed and am still having the same issues.  Other devices - Iphone and Ipad - work fine but the Macbook only works in one room of my house.  I have had the Macbook checked and there are now issues technically with it according to the diagnostic team at the Apple store.  I have tried changing channels and nothing like this is helping.  BT are insisting I have to pay a cancellation charge of £159 to cancel my Infinity - even though it was only installed on Friday.
The engineer installed the modem and BT Homehub 3.0 router at my main socket into the house which is in an understairs cupboard - the modem and hub are now sitting on the floor!!!!  I have been advised that this won't be helping the signal.  As soon as I move from the living room to another room downstairs it drops and doesn't work at all upstairs.
I don't feel that there is any point in investing in an Airport Extreme as I have no guarantee that this will improve the level of service provided by BT.
I have also over the weekend tried different wifi networks outside of my house and it works fine on all of these including what is meant to be a less superior Sky Broadband service?
Does anyone have any ideas what else I can try - I have lodged a complaint with BT and am waiting on a repsonse at the moment.
    thanks

    Hi,
    Long time Mac/Infinity user here.
Macs rarely have problems with their wifi, any problems that do occur are more often due to external issues, such as poor siting of the router, or co-channel interference from a neighbouring router. From your testing at the Apple Store and on other networks there is nothing obviously wrong with your machine.
Having the HH3 on the floor is just about the worst place you can site it. Generally you should position a wireless router as high up in the working area as possible; at least desk height is desirable. A very simple thing to try is borrow a longer Ethernet cable to go between the OpenReach Modem and the HH3 and then temporarily position the HH3 higher, say halfway up the stairs. There should be an immediate and noticeable improvement in the signal.
If matters do not improve, make sure that all the Apple Software Updates have been done (connect the MacBook with an Ethernet cable to do this if necessary).  Next, completely delete the wireless setup on the Macbook for the HH3 (and any other old setups you may have) and complete the setup of the HH3 from scratch.
You may still find there is a lack of signal and this could be due to co-channel interference with another wifi router in your neighbourhood. Try manually switching the router onto Channel 13 as relatively few ISP's devices use this channel by default. Alternatively try Channel 1.
You can download a free WiFi "sniffer" called Kismac to check what channels are being used by other routers in your area.
To manage the hub, launch your browser of choice and enter 192.168.1.254 (DO NOT put http:// in front of this!) and press Enter. (The Hub Manager software is a PIA and should not be installed; use the CD as a coaster for your coffee cup!).
The Airport Extreme is a very good replacement for the HH3 and is far superior in terms of the WiFi signal. If you want to try one, order it on-line from the Apple Store . . . you can return it if it does not work as expected!

  • TS1398 Has anyone had WiFi connectivity issues with their iPhone 5 after accepting the latest IOS 8.0.2?

Has anyone had WiFi connectivity issues at home with their iPhone 5 after accepting the recent IOS 8.0.2 update?

Yes, despite being it an iPhone5 (8.0.2) attempting to connect to an Airport Express.
In my case the iPhone "connects" to Airport Express 2nd generation, but no Internet packages are available; Airport Utility shows the Airport Express as not connected to the Internet; but the iMac, MBP, Motorola phone, Samsung Smart TV and HP printer connect without any trouble.
The actual issue is the DHCP :
sometimes the iPhone gets none, and
when an address is assigned it just doesn't work,
even renewing the address won't work all the times,
switching off and on the WiFi won't work all the times neither,
going on Airplane mode, then back won't work all the times.
    Solutions attempted and failed:
    Reseting and reconfiguring Airport Express;
    Reseting iPhone;
    Switching off and on the iPhone;
    Setup the DHCP renewal for every 5 days;
    Meditation and stark visualisation;
Other possible patch not yet attempted : setting fixed IP addresses
All suggestions received resemble Windows' "Plug & Pray"
I gave up after reading several notes around the WWW complaining about it.
Last credible suggestion : wait for 8.0.3 or 8.1, whichever fixes the issue first.

  • WiFi connection problem with WRT120N

    Hello,
I'm trying to configure the WiFi on a WRT120N (firmware 1.0.05), but I encountered several problems.
The Internet routing is OK => no problem to have a RJ45 connection.
But when I configured the WiFi, the problems begun...
    1) With a laptop Dell XP SP3 (about 6 years old, and working fine with other WiFi networks b/g WPA/WPA2), I can see the SSID, but it is not possible to connect (without security, or with WEP, WPA or WPA2).
    2) With 2 different desktops (XP SP3 and Vista SP1) and an USB adapter Linksys Wireless-G, I cannot see the SSID (but I can see other SSID in the neighbourhood).
    3) With an Alienware, no problem, I can immediately connect and surf (with or without encryption).
Could you please help me to solve this problem ?
    Thanks in advance.

Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
Open the setup page of the router. Create a new wireless network.
Click on the wireless tab and set the configuration view to manual.
Keep the network mode on Mixed, change the SSID, standard channel to 11. Save the settings.
Click on wireless security sub tab. Change the security mode to WPA personal and enter the password for the wireless network. Save the settings.
Click on Wireless MAC filter sub tab and make sure that it is disabled.
Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the beacon interval to 75, RTS threshold to 2307 and fragmentation threshold to 2306. Save the settings.
Now try to connect to the wireless network. See if that works.
if you are not able to see the SSID then try changing the wireless channel on the router.
If that doesn't work then re-flash the firmware on your router. Download the latest firmware from Linksys website and save it on your computer. open the setup page of the router. Click on Administration tab and go to Firmware upgrade sub tab. Browse the firmware file that you have already downloaded and re-flash it on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you should reset the router and reconfigure it. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 10 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it.

  • Wifi connection issue with mini Ipad

    Hi,
Problem with the new mini ipad.  wifi connection is fine but when accesssing online streaming TV sites, it is constantly disconnect itself and have to reconnect to the site before I coujld stream it again.
I have other devices connected to the same router fine without any issue.
Ipad works fine with the same site and connection
    laptops work fine.
    iphones work fine
only the mini ipad is not.
took to Genius bar, nothing much was done.  Called support line, waited hrs for someone to tell me to make apt with Genius bar.
This has becoming very annoying and disappoiting with Apple products since Steve J is gone.
any help is greatly appreciate it.
    Regards,

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IOS 6 wifi connectivity problem with iPhone 4s

After recently updating both my iPad 3 and iPhone 4S to iOS 6, I began to have problems with my wifi connection on my iPhone. When trying to connect to my home wifi, the iPhone seems to connect but then brings up the "Log In" screen with an Apple website loaded saying the page cannot be found. However my iPad, again also recently updated to iOS 6, has no problem connecting to wifi. Has anyone else experienced this conflict and is Apple working to correct this? My router is a standard U-Verse "2 wire" device. I have performed all the quick fixes I could think of such as restarting the router, restarting my phone etc. please help!

I have a similar fault with my Lexus ct200h fsport, updated to ios 8.1.1 on my iphone4s 64, and the bluetooth sometimes disconnects during calls then re-connects again (by this time the person on the end has hung up)  .but bluetooth audio works fine. very frustrating!!

Does anybody know how to detect the WiFi connection with J2ME? In fact i should ask that question = Is it possible ?
I guess it is not possible but i need further help....

  • Wifi connection intermittent with ipad... but fine with my other devices

wifi is working with my laptops, pc and smartphones. however, for some reason the two ipads would get intermittent connections and drop off very frequently. any ideas?

Others have posted similar reports on the forums. What kind of router do you have? What version of iOS is on your iPad? Did you always have these issues? When did they start?
I also have the connectivity problem between my Cisco WRVS4400N router and my iPad. My issues began immediately upon upgrading to iOS 4.2.1.
I've tried many (if not all) of the suggestions posted on the various threads in the forum. In the end I found exactly two router settings that made any difference.
    1. Changing my router channel bandwidth from 20 mHz/40 mHz to 20 mHz caused a significant improvement in my iPad's network throughput. It nearly doubled as tested using the speedtest.net app available for download. +This did not, however have any effect on the connection drops.+
    2. Changing my WPA2 key renewal interval from the default of 3600 seconds to 99999 seconds reduced the number of drop outs from "frequently" to 1 or 2 times a day. So it's not fixed, but reduced to the point of being tollerable instead of infuriating.
My opinion on the matter is that some part of the handshake that the WPA specification says must occur during a key renewal is failing. Since every other device I own works correcty--and even the iPad did prior to the upgrade, I assume this means that the problem lies on the iPad side, and not with my router. However short of putting my iPad and router into a faraday cage and analyzing the wireless traffic between them, I cannot confirm this.
The only suggestion I have had from apple support (and one you will see made frequently here) is to take my iPad to some unsecure wireless network and test it there. Which, of course, doesn't exercise the key renewal problem suggested above.
You should first contatct apple support and let them know you are having trouble. Have as much information as possible, and mention that others online are having similar issues.
Then, if they cannot help you, you can start with the suggestions here and in other threads.
    Good luck.

  • 10.4.7 wireless connect problem with wep security

I can no longer connect either my powerbook or powermac to either of my wireless access points if wep security is used. One router runs wpa, the other has to run wep because that's all the print server can do. To pin this down, I found that both computers can connect to an access point configured wpa. And both can connect if security disabled. But neither can connect with access point setup with wep. System preferences says connected to the internet, but it's not. Before 10.4.7 I could connect with no problems. Have two PCs running XP that continue to access wireless router using wep security. Anybody having this problem? And any suggestions??
    Thanks

Assuming you have 3rd party wireless routers, have you checked the router manufacturer's website to see if a firmware update is available for the router models targeted at OS X users?
I'm using WPA2 personal with my AEBS at Home and my girlfriend uses WEP with her AEBS at her house and I've had no problems connecting to her wireless network and accessing the internet with 10.4.7.
She also uses WEP with a 3rd party wireless router at her condo on the coast and I've had no problems connecting there either.
