Satellite P10-304 system showing 2 processors

System information and DirectX are both showing that i have 2 processors.
My system was running slow and so decided to reboot and it's still showing 2 processors and still a bit slow,
any ideas?

I don't know what kind of processor you have, but perhaps you simply have an Pentium 4 with hyperthreading technologie. That means you have one physical and one simulated processor.

  • Satellite P10-304: WLan card replacement - Do I need the same Wlan chip?

    Hi all,
got a satellite P10-304 from a mate here.
He said the wireless has never worked on it and hes had it years and someone else has already looked at it and changed the wireless card TNA.
Basically it just acts as if the wireless switch isn't working and it stays permanently off although the drivers install fine and the card shows as ok. Just disconnected.
Now I thought, ok, i'll take a look as I'm pretty good on the old hardware. Took it apart and what do you know, the switch was bent and not in place. I put the switch back into place, checked in the on and off positions with a multimeter to check the switch was working and it was doing its job perfectly.
Now it still does not work.
I am guessing this is now due to the fact that as I said, the card has been changed from its original to an intel pro jobby.
My question is, am I right, do I just need to get the same card that was originally in it. I assumed that when the switch was put back correct I would have it solved.

    Hi
The WLan card should be enabled bu switching the switch to ON position (the LED should light up) and additionally you should chose the WLan antenna using the key combination FN + F8.
    Please check this!
Note; go to device manager -> Wlan card properties -> Advanced tab
There you can check if WLan is enabled as well.

  • What internal DVD+/-RW will work with my Satellite P10-304

Can anyone give me an answer to what internal DVD+/-RW will work with my Satellite P10-304.
    I've been told a SDR-6012 or a UJ-820 DVD+/-RW might work.
    Please help
    Thanks

    Hi
Did you check the user manual of the P10 Satellite?
Sometimes the compatible CD/DVD drives can be found in the user manual which should be installed on your notebook.
If you dont have the user manual then you could download it from the Toshiba page.
However, if you will not find the right info in the user manual then I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country for details.
Usually you could order a supported drive from these guys.
Its important that you know what drives are compatible due to the different master\slave\c-sel settings.
    Bye and good luck

  • Satellite P10-304 Won't power up now

    Hello,
Got Satellite P10-304 machine which won't power up after 2nd attempt. What happened:-
Machine powered up from cold start - booted up Window XP ok. After 5 -10 minutes, machine screen went dimmed (looks like backlight have gone) and couldn't power off machine by pressing power button, so had to remove the battery pack to kill the power into machine.
Now, machine won't power up (even battery pack fully charged), When I pressed the power button, I do get a orange light flashed once inside the blue light circle area around power button.
Leave machine powered off for about 1 hour and machine started up in BIOS screen and then after 3 mins screen went dimmed again. Machine won't start up again! Checked AC adaptor and getting 19.3Volts and 6.1Amp so power supply unit ok.
Sounds like the motherboard is playing up and needs replacing? Dose anyone come across this problem before?
    Many thanks

    Hello
    > Sounds like the motherboard is playing up and needs replacing?
    Yes, it seems so :(
Maybe its not the mainboard but another hardware part. But to be honest you should go to an authorized service provider. The technicians can check the notebook to determine what is exactly wrong.
And here you can search the nearest ASP:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

  • Satellite P10-304 DVD/CD-RW drive to slow

    Hi
My P10-304 has a 24 x speed dvd/cdrw drive. Burning a full cd takes 10-12 minutes. That's far to much. I'm using Nero Burning Rom, but i think, that has nothing to do with it.
ps. I use highets burning speed, have a lot of free space on hdd, use good cdr.
    Can anyone help?

    Hello
I have the Satellite P20 and it has, I believe, the same drive like your P10. I can really not say that the drive burns too slow. I dont know which kind of data you burn but in my opinion 10 min is normal time for burning whole 700 Mb on CD-R/RW.

  • System showing two processors?

    Mobo: 845PE Max-L (MS-6580)
    Proc: P4 3.06GHz 533MHz FSB
    DDR:  1GB 333MHz (2 x 512MB)
    OS:   XP Home SP1

    Snd:  SBLive! 5.1
    HDD:  Maxtor 80GB 7200 ATA-133
This is a new system I finished building yesterday. The entire process was problem-free and everything is working great. However, Device Manager shows two processors installed. So does System Information. Even PCPitstop.com online testing shows two processors. Is this a bug or am I just ignorant about the P4(this was my first P4 build).
    Thanks for your time...

    Hi
If the WLAN card is not listed in device manager it doesn`t persist for the system and it can not be installed. In your case there is no existing WLAN card. If you are sure that the card worked properly before please contact service partner. I assume that the WLAN card is defective.

  • Changing HDD in Satellite P10-304 laptop

i have bought a new hard drive for my toshiba sp10 satellite laptop, can someone tell me were the hard drive is in the laptop so i can change it as it doesnt tell you in the instruction booklet
    thanks
    jm75uk

    Hello
For some notebook models HDD changing is very easy and not complicated procedure. HDD exchange in your case will not be so easy and in my opinion you should contact service partner. I don`t know how old is your notebook and if warranty is still valid but like Tobi said if you open the notebook case on your own you can lose the warranty.
I am not sure but the HDD must be placed somewhere under keyboard because on this model there is no HDD cover at the bottom side.
    Bye

  • Cannot use OS on my Satellite P10-304

Hi - I wonder if anyone can help me. I know this is an old laptop, but it is my old favourite and my son uses it. I turned it on this morning and it wouldn't load windows (XP) at all. I tried to boot up in safe mode to do a scan, and it got started, then all went wrong again and kept going to a black screen with white text. This I have been trying on and off all day with no luck...
I have nothing of any importance on there so I thought I would try and to a complete restore back to Factory Settings. I put in disc No: 1 and it gave me the option to do a full recovery. I selected that (option 1) and then "continue" after the warning that it will delete everything... then it goes to "!!!!!!!ERROR!!!!!!!!" and I have to exit.
Not too sure where to go from here...
Any advice would be very much appreciated... it has been working fine up until now albeit slow to get going.

P.S. The initial scrolling on boot up is...

  • Question about WLAN antenna on Satellite P10-304

Which way round do the antenna connections connect to the mini card?
How do I enable the switch and light?

    Hi
The WiFi is optional on this notebooks series. This means that the WLan and the Wlan switch which is on the left notebook side can be upgraded through the upgrade program or from an authorized Toshiba service provider.
So if you have no switch and cannot enable the WLan then you will have to contact the ASP for an upgrade!!!
Otherwise you can switch to the external solution like WLan USB stick!!!
    Seems everything is clear now!!

  • Satellite P10-304 Disk Read Error

    Hi folks...
I'm trying to upgrade my laptop HDD. I'm using an external enclosure and cloning software to clone the Toshiba HDD to a larger WD Scorpio drive.
The clone has worked as far as I can tell, and I can actually boot it via USB from the external enclosure but whenever I install it into the laptop I get a Disk Read Error. The enclosure came with another Hitachi drive which I tried to the same result. I tried using the Product Recovery Disk with the new drive but it would not boot either, I tried the CD with the old drive so I know it works.
Any suggestions as to what could be going wrong for me here?
    Thanks!

Will the new HDD recognized by the BIOS?
How much disk space has the new HDD? Maybe the new HDD is to large for this laptop and it would be also interesting how much disk space has the old HDD.
Furthermore I would make a BIOS update.
This you can find on the Toshiba European website.

  • Wireless mini PCI card for Satellite P10

    Hi all,
can anyone help me find a wireless mini pci card for my Satellite P10-304 in the UK?

    Hi
I found several WLAn minPCI Wlan cards which could be compatible with the Satellite P10 notebook.
Wireless LAN card PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b)
    PA3273U-2MPC (Atheros 802.11ab)
    PA3300U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11g)
    PA3298U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11a/g)
Please take a look on the WLan 802.11 standards!
If you WLan router support an 802.11 standard I would recommend taking the PA3273U-2MPC or PA3212U-4MPC

  • Satellite P10-504 - Slow system start

Hi again, help if you can.
My laptop takes good 8 minutes to get to the point when I can use it. Yet it only takes just over a minute to bring up all my desk top icons. The problem is the blue bar at the bottom, that's what takes the time to load, there's only 4 to load when desktop opens the only one is present and that is the speaker icon [vol control] the other three wireless icon, and the local area icon ,and windows one care icon, takes an age to come on.
I went into start up items and not knowing what to stop. I tick them all to not start but still it takes about eight minutes. Sometimes longer to fully operate, whilst I am waiting the blue disk light is full on. Any ideas appreciated.
I do use uni blue ,reg cleaner along with one care, neither at start up.
    Thanks Colin
    XP Professinoal SP3 and Satellite P10 504

    Hey sido,
I also dont know why it takes 8 minutes until you can use your notebook but normally such problems are caused due the installed software and many programs start up folder.
You should remove all programs from start up folder that you dont need and check also msconfig (Start > run > msconfig). There you can also disable some start up programs that you dont need.
Furthermore uninstall all applications that you dont need and clean the registry using CCleaner.
If nothing does work you should reinstall Windows using Toshiba recovery disk. After recovery installation it should take 1 or 2 minutes until you can use notebook.

PS: Disk defragmentation is also useful ;)

  • Windows 7 on Satellite P10-554, need Drivers

    Hello,
i installed on my Satellite P10-554 a new Windows 7.
Now i can't find some Drivers for my device, in the special for the USB device,
which breaks off, if i use a external harddrive.
Additionally i got a error code 28 for the base systemdevice (at PCI-bus 2) and
the "Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" shows, that the driver for ACPI/CMP0101 isnt
    compatibly with W7.
    What can I still do?
    thank you for answer

    Hallo Lupi
I had Satellite P10 in year 2003. So please don't understand me wrong but you have 6 years old notebook, designed for WXP and now you wondering you cannot find Win7 drivers.
What you can do? Nothing. This oldie will not be supported for Win7.
Use supported operating system and be happy. If you want to use newest software I believe it is time for newest hardware. ;)
By the way, Satellite P10 is really nice and absolutely reliable notebook.

  • Satellite P10-802: What was new in sound driver update

There are new sound drivers for Satellite P10-802 which claim to add sound features such as 3d enhancement and software synthesizer and i would like to know what these actually do and if it's effective enough to bother updating.
For example the sound system is made by toshiba bass enhancement but when i put in my very costly bass earphones,
My cd player [produces atleast 5x more bass and clarity.
So i would like to know what the driver has to offer as to what the standard driver can do.
The driver description is as follows:-
A broad range of audio controls are possible by using this sound driver, including: Software Synthesizer, Microphone volume, 3D enhancement and Power management
    thanks

Sounds much information to me already.
Updating is mostly a good thing and they remain the same standard sound driver, just with some new features.
Ok, I'll take a lokk at it.
3d enhancement: Seems like when using a complete surround sound speaker set was improved, maybe it added more settings like distance between front and rear or delay from rear speakers as you would have like using an expensive stereo receiver.
Software synthesizer is a little tweaking of how music for example sounds. IF you wish more bass or treble than you could adjust ist with this program.
I don't know if you need those features, so you have to decide on your own.
