Satellite P10-802 - CD audio while laptop is off?

Hello,
apparently, my laptop can play cd audio while it is switched off using the dedicated audio buttons next to the cd drive.
It says so in the product tour and also the manual.
I just don't know how to do it. do i simply put in a disc before switching it off (otherwise i can't eject the disc)?
Then do i press play?

Hello
I think you should read attentive read the user manual because there you can find all informations about this in chapter 4-8:
Whether your computer is turned on or off, the CD/DVD/Audio control buttons are locked by default. To unlock them, press the CD/Digital mode button for more than 3 seconds. Press the CD/Digital button again for over 3 seconds to lock them again. When the CD/Digital mode is unlocked, press the CD/Digital mode briefly to switch between CD and Digital mode. The system status indicator LEDs will show you which mode you are in.
For more informations check the user manual and if you dont have it you can download it on the Toshiba website.

  • Satellite P10-802: What was new in sound driver update

There are new sound drivers for Satellite P10-802 which claim to add sound features such as 3d enhancement and software synthesizer and i would like to know what these actually do and if it's effective enough to bother updating.
For example the sound system is made by toshiba bass enhancement but when i put in my very costly bass earphones,
My cd player [produces atleast 5x more bass and clarity.
So i would like to know what the driver has to offer as to what the standard driver can do.
The driver description is as follows:-
A broad range of audio controls are possible by using this sound driver, including: Software Synthesizer, Microphone volume, 3D enhancement and Power management
    thanks

Sounds much information to me already.
Updating is mostly a good thing and they remain the same standard sound driver, just with some new features.
Ok, I'll take a lokk at it.
3d enhancement: Seems like when using a complete surround sound speaker set was improved, maybe it added more settings like distance between front and rear or delay from rear speakers as you would have like using an expensive stereo receiver.
Software synthesizer is a little tweaking of how music for example sounds. IF you wish more bass or treble than you could adjust ist with this program.
I don't know if you need those features, so you have to decide on your own.

  • Graphics card upgrade question on the Satellite P10-802

Hoping someone out there may be able to offer some advice.
I'm now finding I probably need to upgrade this system a little. Adding memory looks straight forward but was also interested in upgrading the graphics card. Does anyone know if this is possible? Currently it has the ATI MOBILITY RADEON 9700 with 64MB of memory. If it is not possible to change the card is it possible instead to increase the memory on the card itself?
Thanks in advance if anyone has any advice to offer!
    Cheers

No, something like that is definitely not possible.
Please do not mix the notebook technology with the simple desktop PC.
You cannot upgrade the notebook graphic card and you cannot increase this graphic card memory.
    Nothing to do :(

  • Battery drain while laptop is off

    I just bought a GS70 2QE-066US STEALTH PRO with 970m
I notice that when the power is off, and charger unplugged, overnight the battery drains from 100% to about 60%.
What is the issue here? I hope this is not a defective laptop?
And also, I am using the "shut off" option, so it is not sleeping.

Last night, I turn off the "quick boot" option in Power Management in Windows as well as turning the "Legacy USB" option in the BIOS to auto. After leaving the laptop off for 7 hrs, the battery drained by 2%. I believe this should be the normal drain.
I might just have solved the problem.
I will do another test later, by leaving the laptop off for 12 hrs, and see how much the battery drained.
Somebody told me to use the Battery Calibration utility, so I did, but it is stuck at "Now Discharging Time Remaining 180mins" for about 20 mins. Let's see if it will progress soon.
Edit: while running battery calibration, the laptop made some strange noise and shut itself down. Upon reboot, the battery is at 0%. Now I am recharging it, then I will do a test and see how the battery drains.

  • Satellite P10 keeps freezing up

Hi I need some help, my Satellite P10 series keeps constantly crashing over recent weeks. I have run a defrag, and error checked the laptop. I've also deleted a lot of files to free up space, and im not sure what to do.
The majority of the times it crashes, it just freezes up, sometimes i leave it a moment-in case its just a 'normal' moment that the laptops having, but it is just frozen! I have to shut it down, and obviously i keep losing data due to this!
    Can someone help me out?
    Side6

    Hello Side
It will be interesting to know if you have noticed after which handling notebook freezes. In which moment the unit freezes?
It can be caused by connecting some external device (like in my case) or maybe starting some application while in background the CPU is on the limit. Is any antivir application installed and active?
Try to end some useless processes in device manager and observe what happen.

  • Satellite P10-804 wireless card upgrade

    Hi,
Ive been trying to find a list of compatible wireless cards to upgrade my Satellite P10-804 but can't find any.
The the current wireless card is a Toshiba PA3171U-1MPC but it doesnt do the 802.11G standard and no WPA security.
Anyone know of what are good replacement cards that will work on my laptop?
Ive come across this one but Im not sure if it is compatible or not as I can't find any compatibility info for it: PA3416U-1MPC
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Hi
I think the PA3416U-1MPC should be compatible.
I mean the notebook supports the miniPCI Wlan card and the PA3416U-1MPC is a miniPCI Wlan card.
The WLan antenna behind the notebooks screen should be connected to the connectors placed on miniPCI WLan card.
The two connectors are marked with MAIN and AUX. Normally a white cable goes to the MAIN and a black to the AUX

  • Satellite P10 switching randomly between Battery and AC

I have a satellite P10 that's been having some strange power issues for about a year now.
My laptop will switch over to battery power even when plugged in. I will then either use the computer until the battery drains and have it shut down or hibernate before the battery will charge.
I thought I had fixed it by downloading and installing a new Bios from the toshiba website, which seemed to work for a while but now it the problem seems to have returned.
I have also bought a new battery and power bar, thinking this was the problem...but this did not solve the problem.
Anyone else out there with similar problems or a method of fixing this?
    any thoughts would be great.

    Hi Greg,
I suffered this phenomenon on my SA30-141, and by trial and error I found it to be a poor contact between the AC socket on the notebook and the AC plug on the adapter cable. Using the technique that Dennis described I tried waggling the power plug when it was connected and found that I could induce the notebook to switch to battery power following which it would not return to AC power without a complete re-boot.
I resolved this problem by anchoring the AC cable to the back of the notebook with a small strip of plastic wrapped around the cable and then clamped to one of the nuts on the back panel of the notebook with a spare bolt. This stopped any lateral movement of the AC plug when it was connected even if the notebook was moved about.

  • Satellite P10-504 - Slow system start

Hi again, help if you can.
My laptop takes good 8 minutes to get to the point when I can use it. Yet it only takes just over a minute to bring up all my desk top icons. The problem is the blue bar at the bottom, that's what takes the time to load, there's only 4 to load when desktop opens the only one is present and that is the speaker icon [vol control] the other three wireless icon, and the local area icon ,and windows one care icon, takes an age to come on.
I went into start up items and not knowing what to stop. I tick them all to not start but still it takes about eight minutes. Sometimes longer to fully operate, whilst I am waiting the blue disk light is full on. Any ideas appreciated.
I do use uni blue ,reg cleaner along with one care, neither at start up.
    Thanks Colin
    XP Professinoal SP3 and Satellite P10 504

    Hey sido,
I also dont know why it takes 8 minutes until you can use your notebook but normally such problems are caused due the installed software and many programs start up folder.
You should remove all programs from start up folder that you dont need and check also msconfig (Start > run > msconfig). There you can also disable some start up programs that you dont need.
Furthermore uninstall all applications that you dont need and clean the registry using CCleaner.
If nothing does work you should reinstall Windows using Toshiba recovery disk. After recovery installation it should take 1 or 2 minutes until you can use notebook.

PS: Disk defragmentation is also useful ;)

  • Wireless mini PCI card for Satellite P10

    Hi all,
can anyone help me find a wireless mini pci card for my Satellite P10-304 in the UK?

    Hi
I found several WLAn minPCI Wlan cards which could be compatible with the Satellite P10 notebook.
Wireless LAN card PA3212U-4MPC (Agere 802.11b)
    PA3273U-2MPC (Atheros 802.11ab)
    PA3300U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11g)
    PA3298U-1MPC (Atheros 802.11a/g)
Please take a look on the WLan 802.11 standards!
If you WLan router support an 802.11 standard I would recommend taking the PA3273U-2MPC or PA3212U-4MPC

  • Satellite P10-873 Wireless LAN Connection

    Hi all,
I have a Satellite P10-873 laptop. I've just purchased a Netgear DG834GT wireless modem/router and cannot get fully connected to the internet via Tiscali (ISP).
The problem manifests itself in that I can connect to the router and can even ping various sites on the net. However trying to connect to a site using MSIE I just get "cannot connect" rejection page.
In addition using the CMD prompt, attempting a Telnet session to a web site on port 80 is rejected e.g "www.bt.com 80".
I've set all security to a minimum with no effect.
I have an other notebook which connects and functions perfectly with the Netgear/Ticali setup. I've also identically configured MSIE on both machines without success.
Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this???
    Thanks Mike

I have just set up the same router/modem (yesterday). I had a similar problem until I disabled Norton's Personal Firewall. (Windows Firewall already disabled) It then connected and I set up Nortons again afterwards (despite the manual saying do not use 3rd party firewalls. I also need help with my P10-304. I can't get the Intel 2200BG wireless minicard to work. Any ideas?

  • Satellite P10 PSP10E shutdown and the light stays on

    Hello,
    I'm having a few troubles with my old (2004) Satellite P10 PSP10E-0SCM7-FR
One day it simply shut down (as if out of power, no BSOD) and the power button as well as the led for the WIFI and CD/DVD stay on.
Most of the time I cannot turn it back on as the power buton still is on. (Power button, WIFI and CD/DVD are on).
I've tried to take the battery out and unplug the computer for at least 30mm
I've tried to press the start button for a while (a minute) then unplug everyting (Power cord + battery) for at least 30 mn before to turn it back on
I've reinitialzed the computer using therecovery CD provided with the computer
I've removed the heatsink, cleaned it as well as the fan then put back some new thermal grease
    I've changed the memory
Yet I still have the same problem, for some unknown reason, the computer simply shutdown and the light stays on. On occasion, the power light do go off, and I'm able to start the computer again. But I'm unable to understand what makes the computer shut itself down, or when that happens, what makes turns the power light off and make it possible to start the computer again.
Any idea of what's going on ?
Could the power button and light being turned on be an error message?
If so, what does it means ?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks !
    Damien
the lights stay on even when taking the battery off and unpliging it to a while (30mm to an hour)

Hi PauPau and thanks for your help !
I'm a bit disapointed, I was hoping it was something that could fairly easily be fixed.
    :o|
Since the computer is about 10 years old, I'll certainly won't have it fixed as I'm affraid it would cost way too much. For a ltitle while i thought about getting another used P10 in order to get some spare parts to fix my computer. But I guess this is going to be much too complicated for me and might cost me a lot with no inssurance that I'll ever get it fixed.
I guess I should better save some money and buy a new one.
I'll stay subscribed to this thread... if anyone has an idea on what could be the problem, please post here. Thanks.

  • Satellite P10 Power Problem

    Satellite P10-317
    *Symptoms*:
External DC LED remains on, but battery LED goes OFF (from green or orange) and laptop runs on battery only (Toshiba Power Management control panel says that there is external DC AND that the battery is discharging). Disconnecting and reconnecting external DC doesn't cure it; but power down into Hibernate and resume and the battery LED comes on again and it runs off the external DC. If no battery plugged in, laptop just dies. Unfortunately the problem is very intermittent. The battery is new and charges/discharges normally.
*Diagnosis* (provisional): the onboard DC regulator is dying
*Question*: does anyone have the circuit diagrams? (anyone else seen this problem & know what the cure is?)
    Thanks,
    Julian

    Hello
As far as I know such diagram is part of Maintenance Manuals and it is not a public document. Because of that I am pretty skeptic that someone can help you with it. You can try to contact nearest authorized service provider. They have these documents and maybe they are ready to help you.
    Make a call.

  • Notebook Toshiba Satellite P10 problem!!!!

    Hi!
I have a TOSHIBA notebook Satellite P10, Windows XP.
It is a new computer, not second hand!
The problem is that it shuts down itself when I connect it to the AC adapter.
The only way I can work is charging it while it is off and then using it while on battery.
The problem appeared after 20 days I bought it.
I sent it to the TOSHIBA service, they updated the BIOS, it worked perfectly for 5 hours (connected to the AC adapter) and then the same problem appeared.
    Do you have any suggestions?
I am looking forward to your replies!
    Christina

    Dear Christina
In my opinion you should not try anything. The unit is a new one and there is valid warranty. I dont know in which country you live but inside of 14 days you can exchange your unit with a new one. Please contact your local dealer. Maybe is it possible to exchange the unit. If not, stay in contact with the service partner. Every hardware malfunction can be repaired and they should check it properly. You have paid a new product and it must work properly.
    Good luck!
