Satellite P10-832--- Shuts Down

Hi
From a couple of weeks my Satellite P10 shuts down suddenly
It happens with
1)Battery
2)AC adapter
3)Battery + AC adapter
Why?
I downloaded a bios update but it's always the same
I formatted about 3 times, without doing any internet connections (someone said to me it could be a virus from internet), but it shuts down even if the O.S. is just formatted and empty (with an antivirus)
I checked my CPU temperatures and I saw that it could shuts down at 36C or 39...or work at the best at 43C!
(so I escluded a temperature problem)
But I saw that when the CPU USAGE goes over the 50% the machine stays for a couple of seconds, or minutes (if I'm lucky!)...then shut downs once again!
The same problem happens to one of my friend, with the same computer!
I can't play any videogames or do any complete scan with my antivirus of because the CPU USAGE goes over the 50%!
Is it an hardware problem?
Thanks
Jacopo
(Also have Win XP H.E.\SP2\Norton Antivirus 2004\Zone Alarm Firewall\Microsoft Anti-Spyware)
(Sorry for my rude English!)

Hi again
Xaver is correct. Yesterday I've used a can of compressed air and was able to blow a lot of dust from the cooling system of my laptop. Then I placed the 'cleaner' laptop onto the USB cooler I had purchased and I launched a complete scan with McAfee. Well it went through without crashing. Then I launched a game (Battlefield) which was making the laptop to shutdown after a couple minutes, and I was able to play for a full hour before I decided that the test was conclusive.
My next step is either to find the appropriate screwdriver and proceed to clean the cooling unit more thoroughly or simply bring the filthy beast to a store that would do it for me.
Cheers and happy spring cleaning !

  • Satellite P10-554 shuts down after few minutes and I can not reboot

    hello,
i hope anybody can help me with my satellite P10-554
when i start the notebook everything works fine a few minutes. than the monitor turns into black and the notebooks shuts down suddenly. i cannot reboot it, when i push the start-button nothing happens.
i have to wait for about an hour and then i can start it up again, but he works just a minute and shuts down again !
help me please, cause i need my notebook to work !

I did that many times. First you need a special torx-screwdriver. Then you can remove the cover over the fans. Than take your vacuum-cleaner and remove the dust. Take a brush or somethin else to remove the dust from the fans. Then, you need to remove I think 2 big screws, now you should hold the cooling falance in your hands, the one with the fans. Clean that properly.
After that you can remove the copper-cooler, with 2 more screws I think, but it is pretty obviously. Now you should see the blank cpu with lots of heat-paste on it. I dont know why they put so much of this stuff on it from toshiba. So get a better one like Arctic-Silver or sth. My advice is to take the CPU off (one screw on top as far as I remember) and clean the surface.
The copper you can clean under water, but dont use sth that could scratch the surface. After that let it dry good. Now just put the CPU back and fix it with the screw again. Take a !litte! heat paste and put it properly with a paper all over the surface of the CPU, but remember, just a little! Then follow all steps back, dont forget to clean the graphics-chip as well and put some paste on it. You can see which it is when you look under the fan-cooling-falance, there should be a rest of heat-paste. Everything back to its place and voil*, a nice, cool clean notebook. By the way, I replaced even the fans.
If you need further advice, just ask!

  • Toshiba Satellite A300-20T shuts down after 5 seconds!!

my laptop satellite A300-20T shuts down after 5 seconds of booting , i dont know why ?? and i searched for support in the website and didn't find it in the model list, also i don't know why ???!!
i want to know why it shuts down , and how can i communicate with support

Yours would not appear to be a US model. We need the Part Number for your laptop, like PSAG8U-05K02C. You can find this on the Toshiba label on the bottom of your laptop. As well, what country was it originally purchased in. In addition, what is your operating system version, like Windows Vista 32bit?

Satellite Pro U200 shuts down after 5 mins then starts after a while. When it shuts down the

    Hi
Believe me; its not easy to say exactly why the BSOD appears.
Generally it happens because of the serious software malfunction or hardware fault.
Did you use the OS from the Toshiba image?
There message says something about sysaudio.sys.
This file is a system audio WDM filter process and its a part of Windows OS. It controls the hardware like printer or graphic card on a lower level.
Note: The virus uses such files as a camouflage. You should use always a anti virus application.
Furthermore you have suggested that the notebook shuts down after 5 min.
Well, this sounds like a overheating issue. How did you use the notebook? You should know that the free space around the notebook is very important because of the air circulation. The ventilators should be also free.
I you use the notebook in the right position and this will happen again so I would recommend asking the Toshiba service partner for the help. They should check the notebook.

  • Satellite A210-1C0 - Shuts down automatically

Hi, Satellite A210-1C0 shuts down on its own.
It has done it after being on for a short time or after 2 days,
sometimes it shuts down and sometimes not.

    > At all: I won't by me another Toshiba again. A company who is using these bad/cheap optical drives? No way. To use these poor/cheap stuff and act like: no firmware/support, ask the manufacturer and the manufacturer say, of course, ask Toshiba... is this a way to threat customers?!?
That's your personal opinion but I don't agree with you... I've got my second Toshiba notebook and never had any problems...
But try other notebooks from different manufacturers and you will see that you will not be free of any hardware problems...
I know what I'm talking about... I used and tested notebooks from different manufacturers and had to fight always with some issues...
    *@gommie48*
Finally some words regarding your issue:
Should clean the ventilators using an compressed air spray and should remove some dust and debris usually this helps to decreases the internal temperature.
Furthermore you should ensure that the ventilators are free!

  • My Satellite laptop (A305) shuts down when run on the AC charger/adapter

The problem is that my Toshiba _A300 series laptop (A305) shuts down when you try to run it on the AC charger/adapter_. You can boot it with the power cord plugged in and it will get to Windows Desktop and maybe a few minutes more at most before shutting off.
It will boot and _run from battery without problem_, but if you plug in the AC while it is up and running on battery the machine will normally click off instantly and reboot to the message "Windows was not shut down correctly."
The _AC adapter works fine_ reading a steady 19.19 to 19.20 volts with a voltmeter. It also _charges the battery fine when the computer is off_. I have two Toshiba brand batteries and they both work fine.
One interesting thing is that the _computer runs fine on AC when in safe mode_.
I _did a reformat/factory restore_ of Vista to assure it was not software and drivers, and still got the same problem before any external devices had been plugged in.
It has the latest BIOS and I tried resetting it to default values in case anything had gotten changed. It made no difference.
This is _not a heating issue_ because _while it is run on battery I can watch long videos_ without it shutting off. I ran compressed air through the vents just to make sure, but it makes no difference in behavior. Usually with an overheating shut-off, the computer cannot be started until it has cooled some, but these shutdowns are accompanied by an instant reboot.
I have seen on some threads that this type of problem one can work around by disabling one of the processors in Device Manager, but I don't think that is much of a lasting solution or good for the computer.
Has anyone seen this problem before and have you come with a full diagnosis of the problem and a real solution?

I have Satellite A300 and until now everything works OK.
I would like to know what happen when you remove the battery and use notebook with power supply only. Does notebook shuts down again.
If not let OS run and put the battery.
Is the battery recognized properly? Does notebook switch off again?
To be honest I cannot imagine this issue has something with software or background processes. Recovery image you got with your notebook is designed for this certain notebook mode. Recovery image is tested and I dont think preinstalled OS has anything to do with this.
    Full diagnosis?
And how to do this? You know very well that diagnosis can be done with diagnostic tools only and such tools have services only. I hope you will find answers but Im 99% sure there is nothing you can do about that. Maybe you should contact service, explain the situation and ask for help.

  • Satellite L750D system shuts down without warning

My Satellite 750 D is about 1 1/2 yrs old and since about two months it has developed this habit about just switching the whole system off as if I pressed the power button or surprisingly cut the energy.
The sound it makes is something like a whistle doing its last sound.
I really have no idea why my notebook does it. I've checked on viruses multiple times and there's nothing. It can't be lack of battery either since I'm not using it on akku.
I should add that the LED with the cable symbol goes off for a few seconds when it happens.
I'm afraid to give my notebook for reparation since its problem doesn't show up every time. But it happened twice yesterday and twice today and it's starting to annoy me.
Any good advice for me? I'd appreciate it!

    Hi buddy,
Satellite 750D is not known to, I never heard about such a notebook model from Toshiba. Can you check the exact model number on bottom side again?
If your notebook is already 1,5 years old, have you already cleaned it using compressed air spray? Theoretically it could shut down due a higher internal temperature.

  • Satellite A200 23W shuts down seconds after pressing power button

    Hi all :)
I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite A200 23W portable computer some hours ago.
I turn it on and i let it finish all the Vista installation.
After finishing Vista installation it asket to resturn the laptop and from that moment the laptop is "dead".
After pressing Restart computer (from Vista) the computer shut down with no problem but it never restarted!!!
After waiting some minutes i tryed to start it over by pressing the power button.
Now when i press the power button i can hear the HDD working and most of the time before i can see something on screen the laptop shuts down!!
Now i notice that both the battery indicator AND the DC IN indicator are flushing and stopping flash at moments.
From reading the manual i would assume that the DC IN indicator should not flash at all though.
I have tryed to unistall the battery and try to boot the laptop but in that case i can not even listen the HDD starting up!!!
I have try to unplag and replag the power cable (in the wall socket as well as in laptop) but again no result.
Any ideas of what has happened?
    Many Thanks

I do not know what is wrong there and, in my opinion, it should not be so important for you. Contact your dealer as soon as possible and talk with him. Explain the situation. Maybe you will get new notebook. If not please contact nearest authorized service provider and let them check your notebook.
The notebook is brand new and it must work. Please do not wait too long.

  • Satellite P20-932 shuts down because temperature is too high

When I use my Satellite P20-932 for about 30 min, the temperature increases very quick! The laptop is turning-off automatic, without any error message.
I try to clean ventilator on the bottom of the laptop.
    I'm really desperate.
    Please help me!

Its a simply case of overheating.
The notebook shuts down automatically to prevent the notebook from the damage. It seems the temperature has increased to the critical level.
I assume the notebook is a little bit older and the cooling modules and the fans inside the notebook cannot run properly because of the dust and debris.
The cleaning of the cooling modules is a great idea but you should be careful.
If you have no experience, asks a technician for the professional cleanup.
Additional you should be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook. Its important for the properly air circulation.

  • Satellite P20-S203 shuts down suddenly

    Hi,
In the last month my Satellite P20-S203 is not behaving so well, and unfortunately it seems the problem is a hardware one (but I'm not sure, and that's why Im writing here)
The computer just shuts down suddenly (it happened 2 or 3 times in the last 30 days); all the times it did happen I was on the web on Firefox, but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with that, and I'm also 99% sure it's not a virus, malware or anything like that, cause I formatted about 3 months ago, and nothing else behave in a strange way, the computer is not slow or anything like that.
The last two options are that the issue may be of hardware nature, or of a software one (like a conflict between installed programs and the OS); I'm more for the first one, but I'm not sure and I need help to find out... What should I do?
Also, when it suddenly shuts down, it won't turn on with the first try.
It needs like 10 or 20 times to open, like an old car that doesn't start; the first, say, 5 times I try to turn it on, it will only display the toshiba logo.
Then it passes through a screen I cannot read because it's too fast.
Then to a black screen and finally it turns off again.
With the next tries it goes a little bit more far, like it displays the windows logo, but, as that picture fades in, it stops at half of the fading process, resulting in a darker windows logo, like it's too hard for it to load the OS!!
But then it goes off again!
Then after some other tries it finally loads windows.
Any help would be highly appreciated, thank you!
    OS: Windows XP SP2

No it's ok Jayjay, I purchased this morning the right screwdriver (here in Greece these type of screws are called "French" or most internationally "torx" screws).
So I took away the cover above the fans, unscrewed the heat sink, removed the heat sink and together with that the cpu came up. I've now removed the old thermal grease and I'm ready to put the new one.
I like to mess around with things, I like to assemble and disassemble, I like to know how things work...but I also know, thanks to my personal experience, that there's no way not to make any damage when you mess around :) but that's ok with me, I' m used to it, as soon the pc will open once finished :D
Anyway, I have to admit that if I worked with a little more method now everything would be ok, like making a map of the screws, knowing where to put them back, because now two screws on the back won't mount any more (precisely the F6 screws on the back panel, where the usb, vga and parallel connectors are), and two more screws are in excess (!) If someone has the time to do it, please unscrew just these two screws (the F6 on the back) and post a photo of the screws, or just tell me the height, even if I'm sure that the problem is elsewhere.
    Goodbye

  • Satellite A30-921 shuts down after 10 mins

I own a Satellite A30-921 but it shuts down after 10 mins.
I've tried to alter the toshiba power management settings but they wont work any ideas ?

Does the notebook shut down automatically without showing any error messages?
This could be caused by an overheating issue!
How old is your notebook and did you clean the cooling ventilators in the past?
If not I would recommend doing this.
To clean the ventilators you could use the compressed air spray which can be purchased in most computer stores.
The problem is that the dust and debris inside the notebook prevents the cooling modules from properly working and therefore the temperature increases to the higher level. This leads to the automatically shuts downs.
In my opinion the fans cleaning could helps to solve this issue.
    Bye

  • Satellite P 30 shutting down

I have had my P 30 for around a year now and after playing a game or watching a DVD for an hour it shuts down. After reading many messages in this forum, it is apparent that Toshiba notebooks are prone to overheating and this is how the system protects itself from total burnout. The back around the fans does get extremely hot. The fans are working and there is plenty of ground clearence so it obviously needs taking apart and cleaning. Does anyone know where I can find the information that shows me how to properly clean a satellite P 30 please. Last thing I want to do is take it apart and then never work again. Any help would be muchly appreciated.

I use the vacuum cleaner. It sucks all the dust pretty well.
But the dust is not always responsible for the overheating and automatically shut downs.
You should check if the notebook "breathe" properly. The place around the notebook and the heatsink should be free.
I have also found this useful topic: Maybe it helps a little bit
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=14096
You should also check the Toshiba power saver setting. Please check the cooling processor speed and the cooling method

  • Satellite P200-143 shut down issues

When I shut down my computer, while on the mains, the computer shuts down normally but a minute later, automatically restarts.
However, on battery it shuts down as it should.
I've checked my power settings, and they are all fine.
So I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do.
I have been shutting down by keeping the power button pressed, as it seems to be the only way.

I have a problem with my Satellite P200-144. Every time I plug it into the mains, it lasts about twenty minutes, and then cuts out. The time period is always the same, and it only ever happens when plugged into the mains, it will quite happily run on the battery until it runs dry.

Second one is sometimes it work and i can change item to cd rom but after a few minutes lp top shutting down while it is processing to windows instalation.

    > First problem is, i am not able to change items from hard disk to cd room in bios menu to change order of read.
Did you try to press the F12 button and to change the booting source in the menu which would appear on the screen?
    Do this!
At the other hand you can press C button at the beginning which would enable automatically the boot from CD/DVD drive.
    Regarding the shut down;
I think this might be related to faulty RAM or maybe to higher temperature.
The A30 is a little bit older notebook and I think dust could clog the cooling grilles and the fresh air cannot circulate properly additionally I would recommend renew the thermal grease which is placed between CPU and cooling module.
Of course this is a job for a technician because its a little bit tricky to disassemble the unit.

  • Screen turns blue and Satellite C850D-11Q shut down

I bought a Satellite C850D-11Q runnings Windows 8 from Curry's in the UK for my daughter just before Christmas- was a very good price under 300- however she says that she will be browsing on the internet and or doing a variety of other tasks (no particular process seems to be implicated) and suddenly the screen will turn blue and the computer will shut down and reboot for no apparent reason. It has done this at least 30 times in a month.

BSOD means that there is either an hardware problem or serious software issue.
The BSOD can be caused by high temperature as well as RAM problems.
So its not easy to say what cause the BSOD.
Ensure that notebook is cooled properly.
Furthermore if temperature is not the problem, try to recover the system using the recovery options described in user manual and in this document:
