Satellite P100-202: problems with screen again

Hello everyone! I'm posting about a problem with my Toshiba P100-202's screen. I recently posted in the thread "Satellite P100-202: screen will freeze" and my current problem is actually quite similar to what is explained in the thread "Satellite P100-119: display doesn't work anymore". Here's my story, hoping that someone will be able to help me avoid having to send the computer to a technician:
After my previous problem I decided to get my screen replaced. Everything seemed fine, apart from on occaisonal instances, especially when I was using the program "Internet Explorer", in which the screen would sort of restart, ie. everything went black for a few seconds (music etc. however would continue) and then (boom) everything would reappear, sometimes in ultra-zoom for a second or two. The computer (operating system=Windows 7) would report "problem with NVIDIA graphics driver", and then operations would continue normally. This happened several times, although not frequently, and I wasn't too worried about it. And then, a few days ago, I was using the newest release candidate of Internet Explorer 9, and the screen blacked out, and my music continued, and I thought "OK, no problem", and then a few seconds passed, and then the music stopped (and I was thinking "uh-oh"), and then... the blue screen of death.
OK, no panic, restart, but of course there's no welcome note, no nothing, just a blank screen which with the backlights still working created an ominous greyish hue. And then suddenly the mouse appeared, followed by the entire display, so I unwisely dismissed the incident. Ten minutes later, same thing, and this time not even the blue screen of death as consolement, just the grey nothingness.
A few days of rest, a quick dusting of the battery compartment, but no, even though I believe the operating system is working fine (caps lock light works and little hums and whirrs occur as usual), there is no question about the fact that the screen does not work.
PS. Sorry if my post is too long and no, I do not have access to an external display!!
While I'm at it, is anyone able to explain why a 25-minute lasting battery can take hours or even days to charge?

Thanks for your super-fast reply, as***! Unfortunately I fell asleep just before you posted. Anyway, indeed I was not expecting a manual fix to be available, so I'll see if I can find the installation disk in my ocean of cd-roms, and if that doesn't work I'll call up on a mechanic, see what they say (nowadays the most common answer is "rien faire", however I have a half-friend in the job who might be able to elaborate further), and in the event, give up on this one and go and buy a brand new and - as they now all are - webcam equipped laptop or netbook as you call them (and preferably not a Toshiba, either, unless you can convince me that 1. The battery no longer lasts a mere third-of-an-hour after three years of usage and 2. The screens are built to last a good ten years). After all, I've always been unlucky with electronics. The problem is however, how will I get all my files moved, knowing that the best form of back-up I have is a long-lost USB key?
PS. Keep me updated if you get any more information on a possible immediate cure!

  • Satellite A300-202 - problems with the AC power

    Hi,
I bought a Satellite A300-202 a couple of months ago and I'm having intermittent problems with the AC power.
Sometimes I plug the AC power and it won't start charging (the indicator leds are off and windows says it is on battery). Other times it is charging and suddenly stops.
I suspected it could be the cord broken in the inside but it seems to also happen when no one touches it. Usually, when it stops charging, I unplug it from the wall, wait a few seconds and plug it back in, and it starts charging fine never stopping again.
Anyone got a similar problem? I wonder if is there any way to just replace the AC power parts so I won't have to send the whole laptop for reparing.
    Thanks
    Pedro

    Hi
I never had a problem with my Toshiba chargers but one old non-Toshiba AC adaptor died after 6 month of usage. After the replacement it works without any problems.
I think you should check the BIOS update as mentioned by Akuma but for me it sounds more like a AC adaptor issue.
So if the BIOS update doesnt help, the AC adaptor should be checked definitely.

  • Satellite P100-347 - problem with shutdown during gameplay

i have a problem with my Satellite P100-347(pspa6e)
After about 10 minutes playtime with games like battlefield 2, the SIMS2 and so on.. my pc shuts down...
I suspected it was shutting down because of high gpu or cpu temp...
i could feel that my notebook was hot, but after playing for a while its normal...
so i installed HWmonitor to check my gpu,cpu and hdd temp...
    this is what i shows:
    THRM: 61.C - 141.F
    CPU: core0\1 - both 64.C - 147.F
    GPU: runs at stable 85 - 90.C
    this at normal use...not games....
    HDD: 39.C
Something has to be wrong!! gpu temp has to be too high?!?
i have tried a fresh OS install....
thnx for all answers and help!

    Hello
I agree with Akuma. The fact is that suddenly shutdowns are mostly caused by too high temperature and shutdown is actually reaction for ??hardware protection??.
So what you should do is to clean up the cooling grill.
There is just one problem: if this should be done properly the notebook must be disassembled. So the question is how you want to do this?
At the moment, try to place your notebook on higher position, maybe on 4 books to make more distance between the notebook and the desk. I just hope the air circulation will be better and you will be able to play a little bit longer. Please test it and let us know what will happen.

  • Satellite P100-387: Problems with graphics mode swithing on new nVidia

    *Looking for help!*
_I have recently installed nVidia drivers from toshiba site (84.00) and since than my system has severe problems with changing graphical modes when starting applications in pre-determined mode (such as 800x600)._
This problem affects my son mostly, as all older games are trying to run in 'Full screen mode' that fails to initialise properly.
Also I have noticed that in dxdiag the option about DirecrDraw settings shows that it is completely not supported by my graphic card acceleration.
Any ideas on how to resolve the problem desperately needed.
    Relevant nformation:
Graphic card - nVidia GeForce GO 7600 driver: 6.14.0010.8400
    System Memory - 3MB
    O/S - Win XP Professional 5.1 build 2600
    ?:|

Have you installed the latest BIOS?
You could try reverting back to the original driver, it should be in C:\TOSAPINS. Or just Rollback the driver in Device Manager. Or revert back to a previous System Restore Point.

  • Satellite P100-324: Problems with Vista installation - cursor blinking

All greetings. Tried to put one of these days Windows Vista. But my attempts by failure have ended. After the first ???????????? there is a black screen and the blinking cursor. For English I apologize, I from Russia:)

The disk "With" was formatted under NTFS then there was a pure installation from a loading disk through BIOS. At the start the computer starts to be loaded, and reaching a place where there should be a window of loading there is a black screen with the blinking cursor in the top left corner. Tried to wait for 10-15 mines, results has not brought.: (

  • Problems with screen sharing

Upgraded three systems to Mountain Lion yesterday (Early 2011 MBP, Mid 2010 Mini and Mid 2011 Mini).
I rely on Screen Sharing to maintain the two Minis using the MBP.  Now, while the Mid 2010 Mini can be accessed just fine, the same is not true for the Mid 2011 Mini.  After a long delay, a window will pop up but is black.  If I toggle between scaled and full screen a couple of times, the screen will be displayed but will accept no input.  Odd.

I was able to resolve the problem with screen sharing from my MBP to my problematic Mini.
My home network uses a Belkin N600 dual band router with both the MBP and Mini using the faster N band.  After switching the Mini to the slower band, screen sharing began working again.  My other Mini that worked all along was hardwired to the router so was not an issue.
Oddly, with Lion, screen sharing worked having the MPB and Mini on the same N band.

  • NMac Pro 6core D500 problems with screen refresh: 10.9.3 warning!

Avoid 10.9.3 on the Mac Pro 6 core, D500.
Problem with screen refresh using Motion soon after updating OSX from Mac Pro late 2013 version of 10.9.2.
I tried my Asus HDMI at all resolutions but to no avial. The screen juddered like it was Windows 95 without any GPU drivers.
Apple's Tech Support had me use many key commands and finally we found out there was no issue with my hardware. Apple suggested a clean install before sending it back for repair. I was fortunate to have had made a backup in the Time Machine of my computer soon after installing all my apps. After restoring my computer is running 10.9.2 version made for the Mac Pros Late 2013. There are no more problems with screen redraw after using Motion.
So, it is clear I cannot upgrade my Mac Pro to 10.9.3 while the issue with Motion's render engine messing with my screen refresh continues. Returning to 10.9.2 has made me realize 10.9.3 is slower and not as stable.
I would suggest not upgrading unless you have a 4k monitor.

  • HT4623 problem with screen touch when during writing or opening icon the screen is flickering

I have problem with screen touch, when I touch the screen to write something or open icon the screen is flickering and keyboard or icons begin jumping

    @ wesleyyin,
    certainly strange. Some questions to help with the diagnostics;
Which TrackPoint cap you you have on your keyboard, soft domed, soft rim or classic domed (the hairy one)?
Can you try disabling the TrackPoint to see the problem goes away?
Anything else laid on top of the system or between screen and keyboard like a thin cloth or something?
    Thanks

  • Satellite P100-202 - Screen will freeze

Hi, first I'd like to say that I think this is a recurring Toshiba problem, as I have a friend who had exactly the same thing happen to his Toshiba PC. Here's how it happens:
While working on the laptop/PC, suddenly the screen will freeze, although everything is still happening and at first if I wobbled the screen a bit it would start working again. Sometimes it was necessary to apply pressure in the centre of the screen for it to snap back. Now it has gotten so bad that I have to constantly apply pressure on the top-left corner of the screen for it to continue operating (exactly the same on my friend's PC).
I feel that soon even that won't work. If I leave the screen when it freezes, it slowly hazes over and ends up grey with a few coloured vertical lines. Again it snaps back immediately when I apply pressure on the top left corner of the screen (I have to keep pressing otherwise it freezes again). Does anyone know what is causing this common Toshiba malfunction, and how to fix it?
I would appreciate answers before my laptop stops working completely! '~'

I suppose it is very strange, although exactly the same thing happened to my friends computer (toshiba but a completely different model) a few months ago which is why I thought it was a common-ish thing. As for the external monitor check, I'm not sure how to do that, although I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the screen connection and not the motherboard/hard drive/whatever since any temporary fix is physically touching the screen, and also I can still write while the screen has frozen, the text will appear once I bring the screen back to life. Would it be possible to manually replace/fix the malfunctioning part or do I have to get a proffessional to do it?

  • Satellite Pro L20 -can anyone tell me whether I have a problem with screen?

    Hi,
I have a Pro L20 - PSL25E and i have recently been having problems with the screen, it has been intermittently flickering/losing colour and almost whiting out (when the colour fades white vertical lines start to appear).
This seemed to become worse after i dropped it (only from about 2 feet off the ground not a big drop).
I thought the sceen may be going, but the perfomance of the laptop seems to be affected when this is happening, the laptop has started to run very slow (the mouse tracks slow, programs I've clicked take ages to run and it sometimes freezes until it stops flickering) which had me thinking it might be a virus or perfomance issue.
My screen drivers are up to date, i ran a full scan with McAfee, ran a system clear-up and a defrag.
I was wondering if anyone knew whether this seemed like a problem with the screen connections and would need replacing or whether it could be repaired, or whether it was a perfomance issue?
Any help would be much appreciate thanks!
    Rebecca.

Sounds like the Graphics chip has a problem, which I think is a Mainboard replacement.
You can get a quote for the repair at an Authorized Service Provider. There is an ASP list on the Toshiba website.

  • Satellite A - Problem with screen minimizing

    Good morning.
Has anyone encountered the problem of screen minimizing, of having an open screen and clicking on the down screen arrow and instead the program minimizes.
When opening an internet site having it open already minimized, or it opening in full screen and then minimizing for no reason.
Is there a fix for this problem? Any answers or solutions would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

    hi SAVAGE,
if you minimize the screen do you mean it changes from 17" to 15"...?
i am kidding - of course.
some more info were needed: which browser, version, is there a special website wich causes this problem?
if there is javascript on this websites it could be possible that they are opening when loaded even when the browser is minimized
after loading the webpage the browser take back control and minimizes the window
upgrade/update your browser and the java environment.

  • Satellite C855D-S5302 problem with win8

I recently bought new Satellite C855D-S5302 after retiring my 12 year old Satellite after excellent service. BUT this new one comes with Windows 8 installed and that is just not cutting it for me.
Often when moving the cursor to the left, the charms screen pops up and the cursor goes nowhere until I click elsewhere. It has frozen several times so I had to restart by holding the power button down, and it doesn´t work as well with my Motorola Razr smartphone as the old XP did. I believe MS are trying to copy the Android OS but they do it terribly. Anyway, I have been searching for a way to downgrade my NEW computer to Windows 7 or something else, but haven´t found a way to do that. And according to Toshiba homepage, this model hasn´t been qualified to run Win8. So what should I do? Return the computer to the supplier? And tell everyone not to buy Toshiba? I´d rather not but I am running out of options.
Is there an Operating system available from Android for this computer?
    Please help me.
    Oskar

Windows 8 freeze and has software compatibility issues..... on c855d family machines. I have two of them both freeze lock up bought them at Walmart... Downgraded to Windows 7 pro had 5 devices having problems but after Microsoft update ran three long running updates some of them self resolved except for two of them SM bus controller and USB controller... To my confusion the driver seem to have loaded under device manager or installed default or generic drive for that device..... What need is drivers for those devices...Please help
PS.. I AM not impressed with Windows 8 and dont like it hope window 9 is better

I had no problems with the system--think win8 is fine; just takes getting used to.

  • Problem with screen after update  Safari 3.2.1

After installing Safari 3.2.1 and restarting the computer I am seeing problems with the display.
For example the screen saver is not rendered right.
I looked into the console and saw the error:
    25/11/08 7:02:25 AM com.apple.quicklook[162] Tue Nov 25 07:02:25 obnocan.local quicklookd[162] <Error>: CGImageCreate: invalid image size: 3 x 0.
Doing a google search I found a thread on this error and decided to remove the Safari icon from the Dock.
Logging out and logging back in again the problem went away.
Adding the safari icon back to the doc and logging out/in brought the problem back.
So I changed the safari icon and the problem went away.
Note: Reinstalling safari did not help

  • Fatal problem with screen going bezerk

    Hi all
I have a serious issue with my MBP-12 (not the newest version) that goes like this: At work, I use an external monitor (via displayport) with a different resolution. My MBP is ”closed” and called up soley by the connection. When I leave for home, I simply unpluck the cables (power, usb, displayport) and the MBP hypernates. When I come home, I open up the mac and it would normally just adjust screen resolution and be ready.
However: Lately, I get a serious fault here. The screen goes bezerk and shows all kinds of dots. Even if I close the screen again, it will not come back to normal. I have to pull the emergency break and power off totally and the reboot.
I am unsure if this has to do with the new Mt. Lion. I have upgraded to that.
Or if it has to do with a hardware fault – a loose connection or what ever.
    So:
    - is this a known issue – that the MBP (perhaps due to Mt. Lion) has problems with switching between resolutions?
    - or could the be a hardware fault here?
    Morten

    By the way:
    - software version: 10.8.1
    - build 12b19
    - 2.2 gbh intel core i7
    - 15´´internal display with dual graphics
    - 8 gb 1333 mhz ddr3
