Satellite P100-202 - Screen will freeze

Hi, first I'd like to say that I think this is a recurring Toshiba problem, as I have a friend who had exactly the same thing happen to his Toshiba PC. Here's how it happens:
While working on the laptop/PC, suddenly the screen will freeze, although everything is still happening and at first if I wobbled the screen a bit it would start working again. Sometimes it was necessary to apply pressure in the centre of the screen for it to snap back. Now it has gotten so bad that I have to constantly apply pressure on the top-left corner of the screen for it to continue operating (exactly the same on my friend's PC).
I feel that soon even that won't work. If I leave the screen when it freezes, it slowly hazes over and ends up grey with a few coloured vertical lines. Again it snaps back immediately when I apply pressure on the top left corner of the screen (I have to keep pressing otherwise it freezes again). Does anyone know what is causing this common Toshiba malfunction, and how to fix it?
I would appreciate answers before my laptop stops working completely! '~'

I suppose it is very strange, although exactly the same thing happened to my friends computer (toshiba but a completely different model) a few months ago which is why I thought it was a common-ish thing. As for the external monitor check, I'm not sure how to do that, although I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the screen connection and not the motherboard/hard drive/whatever since any temporary fix is physically touching the screen, and also I can still write while the screen has frozen, the text will appear once I bring the screen back to life. Would it be possible to manually replace/fix the malfunctioning part or do I have to get a proffessional to do it?

  • Satellite P100-202: problems with screen again

Hello everyone! I'm posting about a problem with my Toshiba P100-202's screen. I recently posted in the thread "Satellite P100-202: screen will freeze" and my current problem is actually quite similar to what is explained in the thread "Satellite P100-119: display doesn't work anymore". Here's my story, hoping that someone will be able to help me avoid having to send the computer to a technician:
After my previous problem I decided to get my screen replaced. Everything seemed fine, apart from on occaisonal instances, especially when I was using the program "Internet Explorer", in which the screen would sort of restart, ie. everything went black for a few seconds (music etc. however would continue) and then (boom) everything would reappear, sometimes in ultra-zoom for a second or two. The computer (operating system=Windows 7) would report "problem with NVIDIA graphics driver", and then operations would continue normally. This happened several times, although not frequently, and I wasn't too worried about it. And then, a few days ago, I was using the newest release candidate of Internet Explorer 9, and the screen blacked out, and my music continued, and I thought "OK, no problem", and then a few seconds passed, and then the music stopped (and I was thinking "uh-oh"), and then... the blue screen of death.
OK, no panic, restart, but of course there's no welcome note, no nothing, just a blank screen which with the backlights still working created an ominous greyish hue. And then suddenly the mouse appeared, followed by the entire display, so I unwisely dismissed the incident. Ten minutes later, same thing, and this time not even the blue screen of death as consolement, just the grey nothingness.
A few days of rest, a quick dusting of the battery compartment, but no, even though I believe the operating system is working fine (caps lock light works and little hums and whirrs occur as usual), there is no question about the fact that the screen does not work.
PS. Sorry if my post is too long and no, I do not have access to an external display!!
While I'm at it, is anyone able to explain why a 25-minute lasting battery can take hours or even days to charge?

Thanks for your super-fast reply, as***! Unfortunately I fell asleep just before you posted. Anyway, indeed I was not expecting a manual fix to be available, so I'll see if I can find the installation disk in my ocean of cd-roms, and if that doesn't work I'll call up on a mechanic, see what they say (nowadays the most common answer is "rien faire", however I have a half-friend in the job who might be able to elaborate further), and in the event, give up on this one and go and buy a brand new and - as they now all are - webcam equipped laptop or netbook as you call them (and preferably not a Toshiba, either, unless you can convince me that 1. The battery no longer lasts a mere third-of-an-hour after three years of usage and 2. The screens are built to last a good ten years). After all, I've always been unlucky with electronics. The problem is however, how will I get all my files moved, knowing that the best form of back-up I have is a long-lost USB key?
PS. Keep me updated if you get any more information on a possible immediate cure!

  • Computer screen will freeze when on internet

When I am on the internet my computer screen will freeze. It happens when I using the finger pad as a mouse. I can open another Safari tab or window.  But the frozen screen never unfreezes.  Help

    Hi, Ernst:
Would you consider backing up your files and doing a system recovery?
Maybe the OS has some corrupt registry files or something.
If you recover and then it still does that, your only choice looking at the motherboard is a PCIe gigabit ethernet adapter which would be relatively easy to install, or you could even get a USB ethernet adapter and not even have to open the case.
See if there is a setting to disable the onboard NIC if you have to add a network card.
I would rule out all software problems before buying hardware.
If you want to try some other malware program, I recommend the free Kapersky rescue disk. You burn the file to a CD and boot from it.  It scans the drive and deletes any malware or virus files it finds without the PC being in windows. A lot of times viruses and malware can't be removed when windows is running.
Link to the download and instuctions for use is below. I like to use the graphic interface rather than the text interface.

Hi there, im also having this problem, i tried running most of the games on my system, and some that are considered "high end" games, are giving me the exact same problem, but other games are running and im able to message fine, i also got some friends to send me messages, and i can recieve messages perfectly, also i noticed moving the actual window around on the screen or just closing down skype also lags. I have 16GB of ram and 4.4Ghz Octa-Core CPU, i checked my load while on the high end games and it there was more than enough hardware usage left like normal for skype to run, and skype wasnt taking any extra up than before. I also checked by bandwidth and i was having no problems with that as skype would lag even on offline games.
I have tried re-installing under a different directory and still the same problem persists, this has only been a problem within the last 24hrs and i haven't installed any other programs that could affect this at the moment.
*UPDATE* I tried downgrading to an older version of skype, 6.3.0.107. Problem Still persists

  • My G5 iMac has a screen color problem. The color is green with lines. What can I do to repar this? Sometimes the screen will freeze and I have to reboot the computer and the screen will be normal for up to 5-6 hours and then suddenly changes back to green

My G5 iMac has a screen color problem. The color is green with lines. What can I do to repar this? Sometimes the screen will freeze and I have to reboot the computer and the screen will be normal for up to 5-6 hours and then suddenly changes back to a greenish color.

Try running in Safe mode.  This leaves out some video drivers.  Which results in machine not using advanced video hardware.

  • I recently upgraded my iPod Touch G4 with IOS 5. However, I cannot use album arts to select my songs any more. Every time I try to do it, the screen will freeze and jump back to the normal Apps screen. What can be possibly wrong?

Does anyone has the same issue after IOS 5 upgrade?

I have experienced the same issue with my 32gb 4g touch since upgrading to IOS 5.
The problem seems to be caused by very large album art graphics. When the album art screen freezes and the ipod jumps back to the apps screen the ipod app is actually crashing (presumably caused by a memory issue).
The short term solution I found is to simply reduce the size of the album art graphics files used (via itunes). Since I have reduced the file sizes of my album art the ipod app has not crashed.
There does still seem to be an issue with the smoothness of the cover flow app which is much more laggy and jerky since the ios5 upgrade - this was reported during beta testing so hopefully apple will address this issue.

  • Satellite P100 - white screen on left side aproxx 1.5 inchs

My screen has gone white down left side about 1.5 inch wide.
Anybody have the answer to this problem
    Many thanks

having the same issue with a white stripe down screen on my p100-188.
I checked output from video 'chip' by connecting to another monitor= no issues working screen in full.
I would have opted for a new screen BUT i am told there may be a differnt issue with mine as it did (twice) work as normal ( always a white stripe now)
so it is just possible it may be my video connection lead that is a problem ( one on order now)
failing that a new screen is only option.
    E=bay approx £90.
if you only ever get the white stripe ? check output on another monitor etc If it still has white stripe it will be the grahic chip (video chip at fault) if and most likely it is a full working screen then its more than likely you need a new screen.
sadly many laptops suffer this fault. a frreidly ? PC repairer wil be delighted to give you assistance for monetary renumeration.

  • Help changing keyboard on Satellite P100-202

Who can help me replace my keyboard?
The connector of the flat cable has a black strip in the white connector to be printed.
    This black strip is broken.
How can I connect the keyboard?
Who can help me and possibly a (used) keyboard and a good connection?

Buy new (used) keyboard with proper connector.
You can find it on eBay and it is not expensive.
It is always risky to use some improvisations for such issues. In my opinion you should use non-broken parts to be sure everything will be OK and you will use the keyboard without some connectivity problems in the future.

  • My macbook is experiencing an extremely slow performance. Everytime I try to do something, the screen will freeze and the pinwheel symbol would appear. How do I pix this?

My macbook is experiencing an extremely slow performance. Everytime i try to do something, the pinwheel symbol will pop up. I do not have an antivirus software until recently, which I got free from school and it said my mac has a virus, which has been quaratined. Unfortunately the problem still persist. Help?

    kasturi pryanka,
your current slow performance might have been caused by installing that antivirus software. Have you tried disabling it, to see if that make a difference with its performance?

  • Satellite 1900-305: Screen is breaking up, freezing, or going white during use.

The Satellite 1900-305 which I have had now for almost four years has all of a sudden started having problems with the screen.
At random, the screen will freeze, or start breaking up into fragments which strange colours, or stripes down the screen, or slowly fading completely to white. Sometimes when I restart, the screen is blank (won't even get the Toshiba Logo), and so have to keep trying to restart until the screen starts working again.
I would say that this problem would occur within the first 10 minutes of turning on the machine. If it hasn't happened within this timeframe, it is fine for the rest of the day until the next time I turn it on.
Does this mean the graphic card inside might be starting to fail?

    Hi
Well, this is very strange issue. Of course in my opinion it could be a graphic card malfunction but also something wrong with the LCD panel. But I cant give you a proper answer for this problem. In such cases the best way is to ask the Toshiba service for the details.

  • Video stuttering on Satellite P100

    Hi..
I have got a Satellite P100-347 ( PSPA6E), with WXP media centre as the operation system. Every time I want to watch a DVD using media player, real player, media centre or WinDVD the video is stuttering and the video and audio are not running smoothly.
If I want to use the quick media (from shut down , pressing the media quick button, it wont start windows, it will only start the media section) then the screen will freeze few seconds after starting the DVD. I will have to hold the power button until the laptop turns off.
    Any suggestions please.

    Hi guys,
did you already tried to install a codecpack like the K-lite codecpack which is free and contains all needed codecs for watching movies no matter which format (Divx, Xvid, DVD, etc..)
If not, try it (http://k-lite-codec-pack.softonic.de/) and by the way: update your display drivers if not already did. It helps sometimes...really. :)

  • XP will freeze after startup within 20 seconds 9 out of 10 times

After starting up windows on my Mac Book Pro the screen will freeze within 20 seconds 9 out of 10 times. If it does not freeze, Windows works fine for days. Just do not restart...
I think I have tried everything to solve the problem. First the several beta-versions of boot camp, now Leopard. Adjusted the acceleration value for the graphics in windows to slow. Started up on battery power which seems to improve the chances of a successful windows-start-up.
    Can anybody help me?

I have Leopard & XP. XP crashes sometimes (so does Leopard), but for the most part, XP works fine.

  • Satellite P100 (PSPA6A) - White screen, freezes then restarts by itself

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite P100(PSPA6A) and am running Windows XP on it. Over the past month, I have had a problem with my computer where the screen turns white, it then freezes and restarts by itself.
I have taken it to a computer store to get it checked out but they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I have tried to find if any programs are the source of this problem but I have not been able to find any. My computer can be on for 10hrs before this problem occurs and it can be on for about 5mins before this probelm occurs. It can also happen during the windows loading screen before it reaches the welcome screen. If this helps, there is a slight delay from when the screen turns white and when it freezes (I have music playing in the background on several occasions where the music was still playing for a few seconds while the screen was white, and then it froze and restarted).
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi!
Did you already check the RAM by yourself using Memtest86 as Boarder suggested? I mean Memtest86 is really great for testing the RAM and if there is a problem, Memtest86 should find it.
Furthermore I would recommend checking the HDD. Therefore you can use Drive Fitness Test and Google is your friend to find it.
    This program is also freeware.
In worst case you should go to an authorized service provider. Maybe its a problem of the mainboard or CPU and this can be checked from a notebook technician.
