Satellite P100-240 CPU Replacement - which CPU Can I Install?

Does anyone know what CPU can I install in my P100-240? Any core 2 duo?
Please don't tell me about warranty.I know I will lose it.
Many thanks.

Hi
The notebook was equipped with the Intel Core Duo (Yonah) CPU T2400 1.83GHz
So I presume these CPUs could be compatible:
Intel Core Duo
T2300(1.66GHz)
T2400(1.83GHz),
T2500 (2GHz),
T2600(2.16Gz) ,
T2700(2.33Gz)
Theoretically you could insert an T2700 (2.33Gz) but nobody can say if the notebook will run stable and properly after such upgrade. The stronger CPU produces more heat and the notebook could overheat after the upgrade. So its really not advisable to upgrade the CPU!!!
.and you know that you will loose the warranty ;)

  • Can't use new external TV as a monitor for my Satellite P100-240

    Hi
I have connected my Toshiba to a new Panasonic LCD 32" via a VGA cable.
When The computer boots up, I get the standard Toshiba opening page and then the Windows XP opening on the TV monitor, but then nothing while my laptop boots up.
When fully booted, I get the same desktop as the Toshiba on my TV BUT no icons etc, just the desktop.
If I change the screensave on the Toshiba, it changes on the TV so I am getting a connection.
Any advice or help greatly appreciated.
I have tried the usual things (e.g. checking box for extend my desktop onto this monitor)

Who knows why the FN keys dont work on the Satellite P100-240 PSPA3E.
Maybe the drivers and the utility were muddled up!
If you use the original Toshiba image on this notebook then everything should works ok!
You could try to refresh for example the Hotkey Utility which can be downloaded from the Toshiba driver page.
Furthermore the NVidia Geforce manager (you can find it in the control panel) provides different settings. Check this!

  • Games won't run above 1024 x 768 on Satellite P100-240

I have a Satellite P100-240 with geforce 7900gs 512mb graphics, running xpmc, games run fine however they will not run above 1024 x 768.
The native resolution is 1400 x 900 but the scaling feature does not seem to work. If i try to run anyhing above 1024 it eithers goes to a default value like 640x480 or the i can only see part of the image (like the rest if off screen) is there anything i can do?
My old P10 used to just scale image to fit the wide screen.

    Hi
To be honest I dont think that this is a notebook problem.
As far as I know the screen resolution can be changed in the games setup.
This fact applies to all games which I have played.
But there is no harm to try a graphic driver update.
You could try to use an nVidia driver from the www.laptopvideo2go.com site

  • Need a BIOS flash boot disk for Satellite P100-240

I need to be able to flash my Satellite P100-240 from a bootable CD.
The only BIOS I can find on this site needs to be run from windows.
Ive seen BIOS 4.40 for P100 on other Toshiba sites, eg:
    http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=2115 524xml&sliceId=&dialogID=56504155&stateId=0%200%20 56506013
But not sure whether that is appropriate for P100-240.
They seem to be completely differently named. Not sure if thats a country based thing.
Will the BIOS in the link mentioned be ok to run on my p100-240??

Your notebook is NOT US series but European series and you have to use the BIOS from the Toshiba European driver page!
The wrong BIOS can damage the notebooks BIOS ROM module!!! And this would lead to the point where you wouldnt be able to boot the machine!!!
Therefore you should ALWAYS use the BIOS designed for this notebook series!!!
Furthermore you will not find any traditional BIOS updates on the Toshiba page!
There are only windows-based BIOS updates and you could update it ONLY from running windows OS.
If the notebooks BIOS cannot be updated from the Windows OS then you have to contact the Toshiba technician and have to ask for the help!!!
This is everything what you can do

  • I have a Macbook pro 2009 with Snow Leopard.  Which system can I install without running into complicated problems which I will not be able to solveby myself? (Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite?)

I have a Macbook pro 2009 with Snow Leopard.  Which system can I install without running into complicated problems which I will not be able to solve by myself- a person with limited problem solving abilities. (Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite?)

It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the  size and RAM installed.
"Yesterday I couldn't update the maps on my Garmin because it said the OS I had wouldn't work"
What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.
Both Lion and Mountain Lion are downloadable from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
The OSs will get more resource hungry the higher you go.

  • Satellite P100-240 - Doesn't boot properly

I'm posting on behalf of a friend who has this problem, we only have contact via mobile texts :( I may not be able to immediately provide all the answers you seek to resolve this problem.
    Hi,
    The laptop (P100-240) turned itself off whilst playing a game 2 days ago, since then the following problems have been experianced;
Loading windows in normal mode results in instant Blue Screen (specific info unavilable). Windows in normal mode has not been accessed since this problem began.
Loading windows in safe mode worked for a while, but internet access resulted in Blue Screen aswell, for a while this problem resolved itself, safe mode no longer works to my knowledge.
The visual display appears at all times distorted, a matrix like effect. I don't know wether this effect is passive, or only during windows or startup, details on how it looks or anything very specific.
A blue screen mentioned the file nv4_mini.sys, this is an nvidia driver file for laptops as far as I know. A gfx driver update cured nothing.
The current situation is total lack of access to the desktop, I think it blue screens just after the welcome screen. I don't know what the blue screen says atm, but the disabling of memory options in the bios was recommended by something... I don't know wether the option is even available to the p100-240s bios system, googling this problem came up with mentions of disabling video caching and shadowing options in the bios as the definition of bios memory options, and that these options don't always exist.
However, my diagnosis is that the video card is just fried :( which would be a worse problem than a software or options problem as far as a quick and simple solution is concerned.
Any solutions, advice or questions? I'm struggling to find and give useful advice, and learning the situation in detail is tricky aswell.
So far a registry clean has been done, an anti-virus scan has been done, a system restore has been done, a video card driver update has been done and a bios update has been done. In that order, for what relevance that has.
    Help? :\
I've seen similar problems on the internet, but only once was it a near-identical problem with the same model of laptop.

The Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 is a separate card that attaches to the bottom of the motherboard on the top left side.
The card itself has a fan/heat sink unit attached to it and measures about 3x5 inches. I have become intimately familiar with this card and the P100 in the apst few days.
Laptop worked until one day the screen went blank. Not dark black blank when its off, but rather when the backlight is on but no immage is available. The laptop starts in safe mode and also in the VGA mode. The problem can be seens even before windows starts up. There are vertical lines across the screen, they either distort color on the image (as in the toshiba welcome screen) or plainly black out letters as in the widnows start-up selection screen. Sometimes restarting after VGA mode removes these lines and system starts up normaly. Then once booted the screen goes blank either right away or in 5/10/20 minutes. I have replaced the video card and the system board to no avail.
I think I will try replacing the screen power inverter next, will see if it will help.
    My unut is P100, PSPA3U-04501T
    the screen is 1680x1050
GPU is GEForce Go 7600, 256 mb

  • Satellite P100-240 wont boot up after failed BIOS update

Hi, let me just start by saying im an idiot....
Dowloaded a few drivers for my toshiba p100 240 and noticed there was a BIOS update, i downloaded it and ran the program only for it to come up with
an error that it will only allow the Administrator to run program. My laptop became slow and would not allow me to turn it off by any means. In the end i took out the
battery and restarted only to find a blank screen, no start up or anything on screen.
I fear i have totally killed my machine and its about 4 months out of warrenty, Im sure there is no cheap miricle cure for this but if anyone can give me my options here I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks for your time,
    Martin.

    Hi mate,
Thats a bit of a problem... If your machine really wont boot up and no screen comes up, then your BIOS was probably damaged.
I would really recommend you to contact an [authorized service partner|http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_whitepaper.jsp?service=EU&WHITEPAPER_ID=0 000000871] and tell them your problem. Maybe they can do something for. I mean, your machines hardware is ok, and its just some BIOS related thing.
Hope your machine will work again..

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Next, select any Bonjour entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Which HDD can I install on Satellite Pro 4320?

I can install HDD 40gb in Satellite Pro 4320 or it is big for my notebook.

    Hi
I assume the notebook is very old because I have found in the internet that it was delivered with a 6GB HDD! Wow
I think if the notebook was delivered with the 6GB so it will be not possible to use a 40GB HDD. Im afraid the BIOS will not recognize such big size.
I think maybe its possible to use a 20GB but you know its only a suggestion. In my opinion you should test the HDD before buying.

  • Satellite P100-240 randomly crashes during playing game

I recently purchased the above laptop and couldn't be happier, bar one exception, whenever i try to play a game (this has happened with every single game i've tried) the machine shuts itself down after random amounts of time, be it 5 minutes or an hour.
After reading the manual i initially thought it was an over heating problem, however after reducing all the settings to minimum i am still recieving the same problem. I have tried updating both the bios and the graphics card, but the problem still persists, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can try to go to event viewer as Start -> Run -> eventvwr.msc /s.
Check System folder for error & its description. You can find that happens before system going to reboot. Hope this help You to identify problem.

  • Satellite P100-240 : Keyboard errors in Microsoft Outlook

When I try to insert a symbol when using Microsoft Outlook I get a # symbol - and cannot find the symbol anywhere - the keyboard is fine in other packages - is there a simple way to fix the keyboard for Outlook only?

Do these mixed signs appear in other applications like MS Word?
According to your description I would recommend to change the Keyboard language settings.
Possibly you use an UK keyboard layout but the settings were set to English US.

  • Which HDD can I install on Satellite Pro 2100?

I have installed a second hand Toshiba 40GB hard drive in my Pro 2100 but it fails to recognise it in the BIOS. Any ideas ?

Yes, I have an idea ;)
Did you check if the HDD is not corrupt?
I think this is a first step to find out whats wrong.
If youre 100% sure that the HDD is not damage so in my opinion the BIOS cannot handle the HDD size. Its simply too big size.
The BIOS supports several HDD sizes but if the HDD it too big the BIOS cannot be able to recognize the HDD.

  • Replaced HDD w/ SSD, replaced Sata Cable, can't install OSX

    Hello All,
So I've got a Late 2009 13in MBP that I thought had a HDD go bad. Nothing unusual, so I replaced the HDD, had a second one "go bad." After a bit of trouble shooting, I ordered a new Sata cable and a a 512gb Crucial M4 SSD. Replaced both, and I've been having some trouble ever since.
I've tried to install 10.6, 10.7, and 10.8, and every single attempt has failed in it's own way. 10.8 refuses to create a recovery partition, 10.7 just hangs on first reboot after copying files and never reboots to finish the installation, 10.6 makes it half way and refuses to copy Essentials.pkg.
I did a test and used Carbon Copy Cloner to clone my other macbook pro (10.8) to the HDD with the 13in in Target Disk Mode, and it failed at first boot but after reparing disk permissions a few times I got it to boot just fine.
I'm left with two options. Either the new Sata cable is also fried, or the logic board is fried. The macbook has passed both Apple hardware test and TechTool Pro's hardware test. But no matter what, I can't get an OS installed on it the traditional way.
Just wondering if anyone here can shed some light on some possible solutions... this post is more of a last resort as I'm all out of ideas.
    Thanks!

    Could be the SSD.

  • Replaced hard drive can't install OSX

A friend gave me an iBook G3 500 MgHz. I want it to coordinate with my iMac G5 to be able to use same Tiger software. I put in 640 MB of Ram, then installed OSX 10.4. Everything OK but the modem was broke and there was not much room on HD. So I bought new 80Gig Toshiba HD and new modem, did the surgery using excellent iFixit instructions and went to reinstall OSX from my cds. The computer works if I start it with OSX installer cd, and the disk utility and System Profiler show the hard drive properly,
BUT WHEN I START THE INSTALLER THE HARD DRIVE DOESN'T SHOW UP AS THE DESTINATION DRIVE,NOTHING SHOWS UP AS A POSSIBLE DESTINATION DRIVE.
DID I MISS A MAJOR STEP TO PREPARE THE COMPUTER FOR A NEW HD? IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO WITH DISK UTILITY TO MAKE IT SHOW UP?
    HELP

Hi, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
In a Mac, it's called Open Firmware, and you get there by holding down the Command (Apple) Key + Option + o + f.
If it's a G4 (and it sounds like it is because the G3's have tray-loading optical drives), you may want to try posting in the iBook G4 Forum.
You have posted in the iBook G3 (Dual USB) Forum.
Also, an iBook G4 will not have version OS X 10.1.x (that version of the operating system is too old for an iBook G4), so you may want to check that information.

  • Can I install WXP Professional on my Satellite P100?

    Hello
I have the Satellite P100 - PSPA3C-SD300E laptop and I need to install Win Xp Pro
The laptop came with Win XP home but I need to use a few programs (Microsoft Virtual PC) that require Win XP Pro
Does anyone know of any known issues of using XP Pro on this laptop? I am going to take a guess that there are no issues since it is only 3 months old but I wanted to check.
It would be great if anyone has any views as I intend to upgrade tomorrow
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
If you want to install WinXP Pro you have to install firstly the OS and then all the Toshiba drivers and utilities in the right order.
The Win XP Home and Pro uses the same drivers. The difference between Pro and Home is not very big. The Pro has more administration and configuration functions which you can control yourself. The Home version was designed for common Windows users.
Anyway, what you have to do is to install the drivers after the Os installation and you should follow the installation guide line which you can find on the Toshiba driver page.
    Good luck
