Satellite P100-286: I want play movieson HD TV

I have a P100-286 Notebook and want to be able to play movies through it on my HD TV. I also have Harmon Kardon Soundsticks 2 to go with this as I'm not sure how to get the sound through my tv speakers. Whats the best way to connect the notebook to the TV?

Hello
Sorry to say but there is no way to watch HD DVDs using your notebook. For HD DVD your notebook should have HD DVD drive and also HDMI output. With simple words: forget it!
You can connect your notebook to your LCD TV using S-Video cable. For sound you need audio cable and you can connect it to headphone port using small adapter http://ecommerce.intermediae.it/images/07628G.jpg

  • Satellite P100-286 - Vertical lines on the screen and constant reboots

I got this P100-286 with Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS and recently the laptop started freezing with vertical lines on the screen tried different options even tried recovery cd to re-install and after installation it started doing the same. I have read similar problems in the forum and is this a common problem with Toshiba? I have spend 1500 on this and it is only 3 years old. My friends have laptops older than this almost 6 years and in good working condition.
Is there any solution or suggestion for this problem? The heat on the base of the laptop is really hot and it is like this for ages.
Any help is really appreciated after spending this much would like to last longer or it is a realibility issue with Toshiba brand.

It is happening in BIOS and even tried ubuntu on a boot cd and still having the same problem. I took to a PC servicing center they immediatly said it is a graphics card problem. The lines are comming in an external display as well. If you search in this forum you will see similar issues is reported by another user. I do think it is a genuine problem. The graphics chip is on board and it cost a lot to replace it that is what I been told.

  • How to change fan speed on Satellite P100-286?

    Hi,
First, know that Im French so sorry for bad English I may use,
I work in a confined area with some other computers, and, it becomes pretty hot in there...
My P100-286 (Ive also seen it called P100-473) is quite hot and I want to speed up the fan manually because it seems that the OS I have (Vista SP1 or Debian in dual boot) can't do it and the problem is that the CPU, and probably the geforce, are heating the keyboard and this is really unpleasant ...
The BIOS setting that manages fan is already set on "performance mode" but this is not really better....
So How can I make fans turn at full speed?
    Thanks

    > the problem is that the CPU, and probably the geforce, are heating the keyboard and this is really unpleasant
The point is that the P100 was equipped with high performance CPU and GPU and both devices produce a lot of warmness.
May I ask you what graphic driver you have installed?
The original Toshiba graphic drivers support an overheating protection and this helps to decrease the GPU performance and to reduce the heat output.
The non-Toshiba graphic drivers dont support such protection and therefore using non Toshiba GPU drivers could lead to the higher temperature.

  • Satellite P100-286 won't start anymore

    Hi,
I have a P100-286 which I don't use very often but today I tried to switch it on and all I get is a flash from the lights near the speakers and the power light comes on for a few seconds then nothing.
The battery light is lit up red but it also won't start if I take the battery out a connect it to the mains?
Is it likely the laptop is dead or could it just be the battery?
I have only had it a few months and don't use it very often so the battery has not been under much load

    Hmm sounds not good!
    Try this firstly;
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor for about 20min.
After this short period, connect the battery and the AC adaptor again and try to start the notebook.
If this simply procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country for a notebook check.
    Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

  • Satellite P100-286 won't go into standby mode

I've noticed that even though it's set to sleep when I close the lid. The fans keep going and the sleep led remains blue.
Reading the manual suggest the machine should turn off the fans, hardware etc and the light should be orange.
Hibernation works fine, but I want it to sleep.
I suspect the problem lies with the NVidia 7900 GS Drivers I am using (7.15.10.9754).
I've tried going back to the Microsoft ones, with no luck.
Which drivers should I be using to solve the sleep issue and how to I get Vista to use them? It always seems to use the latest.

    Hi
    Do you use Windows Vista?
On the Toshiba notebooks with window XP the power saver is installed and controls the settings for standby and hibernation mode.
I assume on the notebooks with Vista OS the Toshiba power saver was not installed and you have to check the settings in the Vista power options.
I dont know what drivers you use and where you have downloaded it but you should use the drivers delivered with the notebook and the Toshiba image.

  • I want to underclock my Satellite p100

    Hello,
I want to uncerclock my Toshiba Satellite p100.
Can anyne tell me what is the PIC ( clock generator) for this model?
Or tell me how to do the whole process?
Im having problems due to its temperature, and the clock is all the time at full speed.
I already know that one fan is not 100% ok.
    Plz, can anyone help me?

I've got a P100, and it was running hot until I took it apart and cleaned out the heat sinks.  The fins on them are pretty tightly packed and seem to collect a lot of dust, leading to the hot temps and fans running all the time.
Sorry, can't help on the PIC identity. :-(

  • Satellite (Satego) P100 - Bug in Bios - Playing 3D-Games isn't possible !!!

    _Hello,_
i have a very Problem with my Toshiba Satego (=Satellite) P100-491 Notebook.
Unfortunatelly the Toshiba repair service installed the bios version 4.7, after that I can't play 3D Games without strong fps-drops ! It's the common problem with the satego P100 class.
*The newest bios, version 4.7, is failing again!*
So I'm looking after a newer version, but there i still no one.
*The Toshiba Service isn't able to solve this porblem !!! Perhaps they could give me an older bios without this bug, is this possible?*
    What should i do?????
(Is there anybody with an older version, for example 4.5, who could give it to me?)

Hi Ayce, i had EXACTLY the same problem, i'm guessing your using Vista.
The reason this being, is that the fan is not engaging when under extreme gpu loads (It's the GPU Fan.)
It's got NOTHING to do with the nVidia drivers, it's a bug in the bios when using Windows Vista.
I recommend installing the Toshiba Value Package for your Operating system,
I wouldn't recommend downflashing your bios UNLESS you know what you're doing.
To solve this problem, i had to downflash the bios to V4.2
You can easily find it on the web.

  • Playing Call of Duty 4 on Satellite P100-434

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased my Toshiba Satellite P100-434 (Intel 1.66 Dual / 2GB RAM / Go7600) and have just tried gaming on the system.
I have installed COD4 and tried to play but it seems as the laptop has big issues running it.
I have updated my display drivers to the nvidia vista 32-bit ones downloaded from this site seems to have made very little if no diffrence.
I am running the game with every setting to minimal with res. of 640x480 and it still struggles.
Everything on the laptop should be sufficient for running this game except for the cpu which is recommended a 1.8 dual and this is a 1.66 dual. could just this be why the game cannot run too well?
    I wouldnt have thought so.
I have had friends who have run this game on worse spec pc's.
Any suggestions what could be my problem or what else I could do to improve the performance?
    Many thanks...

    Hi
If got a Satellite notebook with a high performance AMD CPU and the newest ATI Radeon graphic card.
Im running Windows XP due to better game performance. The Vista needs more hardware resources and therefore I prefer the XP.
Anyway, last week Ive installed the COD4 and believes me this game needs more hardware resources as you believe.
Nevertheless you should be able to run the COD4 using the 1024x768 resolution. But its another question if COD4 would run smoothly.
However, I found an Toshiba FAQ doc regarding some video 'stutter' during game play using Windows Vista:
    Check this:
[New video driver and BIOS eliminates video 'stutter' during game play (Windows Vista)|http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1924 764xml&sliceId=&dialogID=46208288&stateId=0%200%20 46206416]
Regarding to this doc the display driver & BIOS update should help to improve the performance.
    Bye

  • Satellite P100-347: Blue screen appears on start up - unable to boot volume

Recently I left my 2 younger brothers playing NFS Carbon on my satellite P100-347, preinstalled with media centre 2005 edition, and now it fails to startup.
During the startup process eventually a blue screen is displayed for about a second and then it shutsdown (I manged to make out the words "unable to boot volume" from the blue screen).
I tried booting with an XP media centre DVD but it only gives me an option of reinstalling the OS with a price of losing all my very important data. Normally I would have recovered the system but I don't want to lose my data.
Is there anything i can do other than taking it to a technician?

    Hi
Well, mostly the BSOD appears due to a hardware problem or serious software issue.
In your case the software problem is possible
Unfortunately, I think the new OS installation is the best way to get the notebook running correctly.
Now you want to know how to save the data and files well, I think you should remove the HDD from notebook and should try to connect the 2.5 HDD via external USB controller to another computer. Then you could save the files on the other HDD
I think, now you know that the regular backups are important and necessary!!!!

  • Satellite P100-192: crackling sound coming from speaker when using MSN

Hello, i have just bought this p100-192 laptop. The speakers seem to muffle ( especially whenever there is an incoming message in MSN )
Does anyone know why and a solution to it ????

    Hi,
I own a Satellite P100-188 and the sound crackled in windows with driver 3.11.0.0 and BIOS 2.10, after sending the notebook back to Toshiba only for them to install driver version 3.11.0.51 I found that some sounds where not playing at all. I have come to the conclusion that the Conexant sound chip (or hardware) is just rubbish, for instance take the sound volume of the beep tone when hitting caps lock or num lock compared to the general volume, which, at full volume is barely audible!
I myself went back to using version 3.11.0.0 as I would rather have crackling sound than missing sounds. I'm considering purchasing a Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS PCMCIA sound card as I play games a lot on my notebook. If sound is important for you, you may want to consider it too.
An eaiser way to check your BIOS version is to click Start select Run... and enter this line in the dialog box
    TInTouch.exe and hit enter.
Then switch to the Protect and Fix tab and left click PC diagnostic tool, it will list all the information on your notebook.
This is how I updated my BIOS, I downloaded the win update file and unzipped it, I then ran the Phoenix Winphlash program and entered a bios backup destination and browsed to the .wph file which was in the folder that the program unzipped to, I then followed the onscreen prompts and that was it, the machine re-booted with the new bios installed.

  • Satellite P100-347 - problem with shutdown during gameplay

i have a problem with my Satellite P100-347(pspa6e)
After about 10 minutes playtime with games like battlefield 2, the SIMS2 and so on.. my pc shuts down...
I suspected it was shutting down because of high gpu or cpu temp...
i could feel that my notebook was hot, but after playing for a while its normal...
so i installed HWmonitor to check my gpu,cpu and hdd temp...
    this is what i shows:
    THRM: 61.C - 141.F
    CPU: core0\1 - both 64.C - 147.F
    GPU: runs at stable 85 - 90.C
    this at normal use...not games....
    HDD: 39.C
Something has to be wrong!! gpu temp has to be too high?!?
i have tried a fresh OS install....
thnx for all answers and help!

    Hello
I agree with Akuma. The fact is that suddenly shutdowns are mostly caused by too high temperature and shutdown is actually reaction for ??hardware protection??.
So what you should do is to clean up the cooling grill.
There is just one problem: if this should be done properly the notebook must be disassembled. So the question is how you want to do this?
At the moment, try to place your notebook on higher position, maybe on 4 books to make more distance between the notebook and the desk. I just hope the air circulation will be better and you will be able to play a little bit longer. Please test it and let us know what will happen.

  • Satellite P100 - Cannot delete the data from CD-RW disks

    I have a Toshiba Satellite P100 laptop.
According to the User Manual it says:
You cannot partially delete any data written to a CD-RW
I thought the whole idea of using a CD-RW was so you could delete whatever you wanted to and use that part of the disc again and again.
    Can someone explain?

I didnt find this info in user manual and if you have burned some data on the CD-RW disks then it should be possible to format such CD-RW using an 3rd party tool like Nero Burning ROM for example.
I did it many times using Nero and was always successful

  • What's new in BIOS 4.50 - Satellite P100-332

    Hi, a
nyone know whats the new functions on the new BIOS 4.50 for Satellite P100-332? Cause i try to click on "Toshiba Bios information" and he just loop again to the same web page... Is there anyone that knows whats new? or in a log file?

    Hi guys
I can tell you that this a old story and I read about such stuttering long time ago
Many people have reported that this issue could be solved by BIOS and nVidia driver update!
This is also mentioned here in this Toshiba FAQ:
[New video driver and BIOS eliminates video 'stutter' during game play (Windows Vista) |http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1924 764xml&sliceId=&dialogID=69796173&stateId=1 0 69794207]
So there is a solution, definitely!

  • Satellite P100: No Windows Vista CD but only Recovery CD

Hi I recently purchased a toshiba satellite P100, but it doesn't seem to have come with a Windows Vista disk, just preinstalled Vista.
The laptop is running fine at the moment, but I'm a bit worried that if something goes wrong in the future i'll have no way to reinstall the OS.
The laptop came with a recovery disk, and I'm not sure if Vista is included on this?
If not is there anyway I can make a copy of vista from the one installed on my HDD?
    Thanks

    Hi,
dont worry, you dont need to make a copy of your HDD since you already have a vista on your recovery media.
If you got problems with your system and you want to re-install it, then backup all your data to a external media, put the recovery in your CD/DVD drive, boot from it and then just "recover" or "reinstall" your system. The recovery process is working automatically and you will have a "factory-like" installation after recovering your machine.
Hope I could explain it to you... ;)
    Greetings

  • Can I install WXP Professional on my Satellite P100?

    Hello
I have the Satellite P100 - PSPA3C-SD300E laptop and I need to install Win Xp Pro
The laptop came with Win XP home but I need to use a few programs (Microsoft Virtual PC) that require Win XP Pro
Does anyone know of any known issues of using XP Pro on this laptop? I am going to take a guess that there are no issues since it is only 3 months old but I wanted to check.
It would be great if anyone has any views as I intend to upgrade tomorrow
    Thanks in advance

    Hi
If you want to install WinXP Pro you have to install firstly the OS and then all the Toshiba drivers and utilities in the right order.
The Win XP Home and Pro uses the same drivers. The difference between Pro and Home is not very big. The Pro has more administration and configuration functions which you can control yourself. The Home version was designed for common Windows users.
Anyway, what you have to do is to install the drivers after the Os installation and you should follow the installation guide line which you can find on the Toshiba driver page.
    Good luck
