Satellite P100-324 (PSPA6E) - Intel T7400 - Virtualization disabled

Hi Toshiba support staff,
I have a toshiba satellite p100-324 (pspa6e) with intel core2duo t7400 processor and my problem is hardware virtualization (VT aka VMX) doesn't works because of it's locked off by bios. Also there is no option in bios for enabling it. It's not make any sence that you have this technology but you can't use it.
I'm a professional programer but i can't test my programs in virtual environment because of this smart bios. I have been waiting this from bios version 3.30. Now i'm using phoenix bios v4.70 but it's not done!
I think it's toshiba's irresponsibility, and if toshiba is not releasing a new BIOS in order to support what the features they sold, it will be my last toshiba product purchase. Beacuse it's waste of money. You should have clearly said what features were disabled if you're not planning to fix this problem. If toshiba's policy will continue like this, the unhappy customer number will be grow.

No, unfortunately you're wrong.
The cpu supports the virtualization (vt extensions). You can also see this by executing cpuinfo command in linux (by checking vmx flag in output) or running intel proccessor id utility program on windows.
BUT when i start ant guest operating system in virtual box with vt-x enabled, it shows me an error that telling it's turned off by bios and i have to enable it from bios. Also securable program is says my virtualization is locked off by bios. So i have vt support but i can't enable /use it.
(you can think that this is the program's fault but i checked it with xen, kvm on linux, virtualbox1.5 to 3.0 version with both linux and windows hosts, so i'm pretty sure that vt is disabled by bios and there's not an option to enabling it.)
thanks for your reply but i think the only way is a new bios with option for enabling vt.

    Hi
I think youve got an Intel Lan card and this Vista Lan driver could be installed automatically using the Vista update function.
So it maybe you could establish the internet connection using the WLan and then you could run the Vista updates.

    hallo
I have a problem with my Satellite P100-324, lately when I operating a game or google earth or open some vedio stream from internet the computer restart by itself, sometimes it restarts once I double click on the game icon or the vedio link.
i have windows XP home center (the original operating system). The computer works good with DVD or HD movies with no problem
    thank you for your help

    Hi Dr.Bilal,
    > Than I reinstalled the whole Windows with formating but it didnt solve the problem
Did you use the Toshiba recovery disk for reinstalling Windows or a Microsoft disk?
If you have used the Toshiba recovery disk that restores factory settings, I assume its a hardware malfunction. Maybe the graphic card or mainboard is faulty and needs replacing.
An authorized service provider can check your notebook and repair it. The guys are really useful and its always interesting to talk with them a little bit ;)

  • Satellite P100-324: How to downgrade BIOS to version 2.40

I have the Toshiba Satellite P100-324 with BIOS version 3.30. I need to downgrade BIOS to version 2.40 because it help with stuttering problem when playing games on Windows Vista. But the problem is the version 2.40 is unavailable at Toshiba Europe website (I'm from Russia). I have found this version (one mate gave it to me), but it is for P105 models (US version).
The question is - can I use US version of BIOS 2.40 for my european P100? Is it compatible?

    Hi guys
I found this very interesting discussion and I have to clarify something.
You dont need to update the BIOS to another version to play the different games on the Vista OS.
The games couldnt run properly due to the Vista OS.
Several weeks ago Microsoft has published and hotfix which solves some problems with the Multi GPU support on Vista. It was useful for users which use the gamer computer with 2 GPUs
    http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B936710
Now the Microsoft has published and patch which solves the problems with the virtual address space usage. This was a reason why some games crashed or didnt run smoothly.

  • Satellite P100-463 and Intel VT

    Hy
I've got a Satellite P100-463 Notebook (Model Nr. PSPA6E-03N01CGR), with Bios Version 2.7. Intel VT (Virtualization) is disabled, and Toshiba says there's no way to enable it.
A friend of mine has nearly the same model P100-354 (Model Nr. PSPA6E-03H01FGR), but with BIOS Version 2.4, and on that Laptop VT works. Intel tool says that :-)
The 2 notebooks have a similar hardware (354 has a 2ghz cpu, but VT should work on both).
So, i don't understand that...?!? Is it the BIOS Version? Is there a way to downgrade my BIOS.
    Thanks

The point is that not all CPUs support the Intel Virtualization Technology.
If the CPU supports the VT then the BIOS should contain such ON/OFF option.
But if the BIOS doesn't support such ON/OFF option then you should check the Toshiba European driver page and should udpate the BIOS!!!
Then the VT ON/OFF setting should appear again.

  • Satellite P100-324: 4 GB RAM Solution

    Hello,
I have been happily using my P100-324 for a couple of months now. Last week it turned out that I need 4 GB of RAM to work, so I bought the extra modules. Since the official specification states the support for that amount of RAM, I didn't expect any problems.
So, right now my situation looks like this:
    - P100-324 with 4 GB RAM installed,
    - 3072M System Memory Passed - in BIOS,
    - BIOS updated to 4.00 (1),
    - KB929777 installed,
    - ~3 GB RAM usable in different OSes (2),
    - ~2500 EUR spent on notebook, warranty extension and extra memory.
My question: is there any way to use 4 GB RAM with this notebook - as stated in the official specification?
If not: which Toshiba company is responsible for disributing this machine in Poland? I understand that Toshiba has many different branches dedicated to different product lines. I talked to my lawyer and she said I should sue the distributor for the money spent. So basically, I need the confirmation that it is definiately impossible to use 4 GB RAM on P100-324.
Should somebody have any useful information for me, I'd be very happy to hear them.
    Regards,
    (1) - It was supposed to help, as stated [here|http://support.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB7601WE0007R01.htm]. However, it seems like blaming 32-bit OSes for the lack of memory remapping support in BIOS (required by 945PM) is not the way to go.
    (2) - I tested the configuration on the following OSes, without any success:
a: Vista Ultimate 32-bit (with PAE explicitly enabled),
    b: Vista Ultimate 64-bit,
    C: Debian 64-bit,
    d: Sabayon Linux 64-bit,
    e: FreeBSD 6.2 (64-bit custom built kernel).

    ENABLING 4GB RAM / STAGE 2
Changes since the stage 1 (first post):
    1) BIOS updated to 4.20-WIN.
Actually, this was done twice. First time, when the BIOS patch was not linked on the official drivers download site yet (I found it manually browsing Toshiba's drivers repo). Later on, I patched the BIOS once again, to make sure there were no changes in officially-enabled files. To make sure I didn't break anything with the first update, I compared the checkums of the two bios upgrade files and they were exactly the same.<br />
    <br />
In fact, I didn't notice any visible changes between versions 4.00 and 4.20. It turns out that blaming 4.20 for the hot-GPU issue was a mistake (explained in the next point). Both versions of the BIOS act exactly the same, reporting 4096 MB RAM in the BIOS setup, and later on "3072 M System Memory Passed" during the BIOS phase of the bootup.
    2) GPU Temperature issue in Vista x64.<br />
After several days of workin with 64-bit Vista installation I noticed that the bottom of the notebook is becoming incredibly hot. I installed Nvidia's MonitorView and I was shocked to discover that the idle temperature of my GPU is over 90 C! The heavy-load temperature oscillated around 105 C. The strange thing is that when the computer is booting, or when in BIOS, or when working with non-Windows OS, one of the fans works loudly and cools down the GPU. However, at the moment I launch Vista, that fan stops running and the temperature starts increasing.<br />
    <br />
My small investigation the way my computer acts (described above) shows that it's the GPU driver that may be responsible. As one of this forum gurus stated, +this is the reason why we should only use the official drivers released by Toshiba+. It seems that those drivers are able to fully access the graphical chipset and control the fan (generic nvidia drivers cannot read/control fan's state with my notebook). That brings us to the next point:<br />
    3) 4 GB Ram issue
Many people (even on this forum) state, that in order to use 4 GB RAM one has to use 64-bit Operating System. Even one of the Toshiba's official support pages confirms this point of view. So please help me find an error in this way of thinking (cause maybe all of this mess is because of me):<br />
    <br />
working with P100-324, I will be able to use 4 GB RAM, as stated in the official specs
it's not possible to use more than 3 GB RAM with 32-bit OS (even though I disagree with that), so I buy 64-bit Vista Ultimate Box) and install it on my notebook,<br />
The notebook has Designed for Windows XP Windows Vista Capable sticker, so I don't expect any problems (the sticker doesn't say "Vista 32-bit capable),<br />
Later on I find out that 64-bit systems are not supported by Toshiba, because of the fact that they're not
    What do you guys suggest?

  • Satellite P100-324 - XP 64bit drivers

    Hi
I have Windows XP Pro 64bit version. From where I can download drivers for this OS?
There are device manufacturers drivers that support 64 bit, but I don't know what's inside my laptop... besides nVidia.
    Thanks in advance! :)

    Hello
I am pretty sure Toshiba will offer drivers for 64-bit Vista version but for Windows XP you will not find anything on Toshiba download page especially now when no one notebook will be delivered with WXP. Sorry but you are on your own. :(
I have found some info that can you help. This unit has:
    Mobile Intel 945PM Express Chipset
Graphics Controller NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900
    CX20551-22 soundcard
    Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG WLAN card

  • Satellite P100-347 (PSPA6E) - need Display Driver update

    Hi all
The display drivers on the driver download page hasn't been updated in ages,
and I would very much like to update to the latest nVidia drivers.
However, when I try and install drivers from www.nvidia.com, they keep referring me to Toshiba,
but the driver we have available from there is only version 8.4.0.0.
Anyone got any tips on how to work around that, and can someone tell me what changes Toshiba has made to the drivers since nVidia redirects you instead of simply updating the drivers.
The windows version that came with the laptop is Windows XP MCE
    Thanks in advance
    Jimmi

    Hi
    > Anyone got any tips on how to work around that, and can someone tell me what changes Toshiba has made to the drivers since nVidia redirects you instead of simply updating the drivers.
The point is that Toshiba own graphic drivers are not the same like the original graphic driver from the card manufacturers.
The Toshiba own drivers are modified and support an overheating protection which helps to protect the hardware from overheating.
Why? Because the notebooks are not equipped with huge cooling modules like desktop graphic cards and therefore the driver must control a part of the heat dissipation!!
As far as I know its possible to install the drivers from nVidia website using the advanced installation procedure. You can update the driver from device manager and could point to the place where the driver was downloaded.
But note; the usage of non Toshiba graphic driver is only at your own risk and its not covered by warranty!!!
    Cheers

  • DVD drive does not burn/erase rewritables - Satellite P100-347

    Hello,
I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite p100-347 PSPA6E laptop. It has a DVD Burner with model number: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N (firmware pt06). It has capabilities to burn all types of dvds (please see example using dvdino: http://tinyurl.com/2hbpqv ).
However, i cannot rewrite on my Maxell dvd+rw (1.4x speed) dvd. everytime i go to a software application to erase a dvd i've written on, it says format not recognised. For example Nero says "This disc is not rewritable and therefore cannot be erased. Please insert a rewritable disc".
The disc is rewritable because it says on the cover and also it burns on my friends rewritable dvd burner :(
Please can someone help :( i am really stuck and it would be much apreciated
    Jas

    Hello all,
thank you for your replies. Still no luck wth DLA :(. i installed DLA and i get the message 'write-once media such as CD-R or DVD-R is not supported by DLA' even though the dvd is a MAXELL Dvd+RW.
Now here is the strange part. I just borrowed a friends dvd external rewriter which burns the maxell dvd i have been using... it seems like that does not work on my laptop either now and works fine on my friends computer. perhaps it is not the dvd burner that is the problem but some setting on my pc. can someone please help :(.

  • Satellite P100-347 - problem with shutdown during gameplay

i have a problem with my Satellite P100-347(pspa6e)
After about 10 minutes playtime with games like battlefield 2, the SIMS2 and so on.. my pc shuts down...
I suspected it was shutting down because of high gpu or cpu temp...
i could feel that my notebook was hot, but after playing for a while its normal...
so i installed HWmonitor to check my gpu,cpu and hdd temp...
    this is what i shows:
    THRM: 61.C - 141.F
    CPU: core0\1 - both 64.C - 147.F
    GPU: runs at stable 85 - 90.C
    this at normal use...not games....
    HDD: 39.C
Something has to be wrong!! gpu temp has to be too high?!?
i have tried a fresh OS install....
thnx for all answers and help!

    Hello
I agree with Akuma. The fact is that suddenly shutdowns are mostly caused by too high temperature and shutdown is actually reaction for ??hardware protection??.
So what you should do is to clean up the cooling grill.
There is just one problem: if this should be done properly the notebook must be disassembled. So the question is how you want to do this?
At the moment, try to place your notebook on higher position, maybe on 4 books to make more distance between the notebook and the desk. I just hope the air circulation will be better and you will be able to play a little bit longer. Please test it and let us know what will happen.

  • Video stuttering on Satellite P100

    Hi..
I have got a Satellite P100-347 ( PSPA6E), with WXP media centre as the operation system. Every time I want to watch a DVD using media player, real player, media centre or WinDVD the video is stuttering and the video and audio are not running smoothly.
If I want to use the quick media (from shut down , pressing the media quick button, it wont start windows, it will only start the media section) then the screen will freeze few seconds after starting the DVD. I will have to hold the power button until the laptop turns off.
    Any suggestions please.

    Hi guys,
did you already tried to install a codecpack like the K-lite codecpack which is free and contains all needed codecs for watching movies no matter which format (Divx, Xvid, DVD, etc..)
If not, try it (http://k-lite-codec-pack.softonic.de/) and by the way: update your display drivers if not already did. It helps sometimes...really. :)
