Satellite P100-434 startup issue BSOD

Hello everybody!
I have Toshiba Satellite P100-434 laptop and lately I have encountered many problems during the startup.
1. The laptop starts normally up to the writing the password. Then, in the middle of typing BSOD.
2. The laptop gets BSOD or turns off about 2 seconds after the Microsoft bar has appeared.
3. The laptop doesn't turn on - after launch there is only one flash of three blue diodes on the right and the screen stays blank. No Toshiba welcome screen.
After few attempts I succeed with getting the Toshiba welcome screen (it's after the second flash), but there are another issues later, the laptop turns off or tries to Launch Startup Repair. It says only about unspecified error and restores back to the previous state.
4. I tried to enter the Safe Mode, but few times I encountered the same: the laptop turns off after loading some drivers.
BSOD are too short for me to spot what is going on - I spotted only BAD POOL something and IRQL NOT EQUAL something as if it was something with drivers, presumably the NVIDIA display driver. I uninstalled it and downloaded new one and installed it (version 7.15.11.5666). Ths is NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600. Once there was some information about dxgkrnl.sys?
I did Windows Memory Test at startup - no errors.
I scanned for any viruses: my AVG removed some Cryptor virus, but the problem still is there.
The OS is Windows Vista Home Premium SP 2.
I don't know what is the problem. Is it the display driver or any other driver? Or maybe some power related problems? Any advice welcome!

Additional information:
Yesterday I encountered again the same problem: BSOD during typing the password: IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL; STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8888E1E3), disk.sys address 8888E1E3 base of 88880000, DateStamp 49e01ef2.
I turned the laptop off manually and after 30 some attempts I succeeded with switching it on again (up to then there was no Toshiba welcome screen and the display remained blank) to meet up with another BSOD shortly after launch of Windows:
STOP 0x0000000A (0x0000000B, 0x000000FF, 0x00000000, 0x8B48F3AD)
The next launch the system made the CHKDSK. There were plenty of index entries being deleted, but there were not bad sectors or anything. When I finally got through all this, I did another diagnostic of the HDD, but it showed no problems.
Anyway: I would like to know whether the problem is hardware or rather software related, because I wouldn't take my laptop to repair if there is something I could do by downloading/reinstalling.

  • Playing Call of Duty 4 on Satellite P100-434

    Hi all,
I have recently purchased my Toshiba Satellite P100-434 (Intel 1.66 Dual / 2GB RAM / Go7600) and have just tried gaming on the system.
I have installed COD4 and tried to play but it seems as the laptop has big issues running it.
I have updated my display drivers to the nvidia vista 32-bit ones downloaded from this site seems to have made very little if no diffrence.
I am running the game with every setting to minimal with res. of 640x480 and it still struggles.
Everything on the laptop should be sufficient for running this game except for the cpu which is recommended a 1.8 dual and this is a 1.66 dual. could just this be why the game cannot run too well?
    I wouldnt have thought so.
I have had friends who have run this game on worse spec pc's.
Any suggestions what could be my problem or what else I could do to improve the performance?
    Many thanks...

    Hi
If got a Satellite notebook with a high performance AMD CPU and the newest ATI Radeon graphic card.
Im running Windows XP due to better game performance. The Vista needs more hardware resources and therefore I prefer the XP.
Anyway, last week Ive installed the COD4 and believes me this game needs more hardware resources as you believe.
Nevertheless you should be able to run the COD4 using the 1024x768 resolution. But its another question if COD4 would run smoothly.
However, I found an Toshiba FAQ doc regarding some video 'stutter' during game play using Windows Vista:
    Check this:
[New video driver and BIOS eliminates video 'stutter' during game play (Windows Vista)|http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1924 764xml&sliceId=&dialogID=46208288&stateId=0%200%20 46206416]
Regarding to this doc the display driver & BIOS update should help to improve the performance.
    Bye

  • Video and game performance Satellite P100-434

I got myself a nice new P100-434 just 2 weeks ago, When tring to play a game or a DVD It starts of ok but after a short time the frame rate drops right of then comes back up then back down..
I took it back to the shop and they gave me a new one but the same thing happens.
Anyone else had noticed the same. If so tell me how to handle with it.

I've had the exact same problem for a number of weeks, exchanged for a new one (identical notebook) and I still have the problem. I've even tried to get it fixed but to no avail. The guy I took it to seemed to think it had something to do with the DVD drive but to me it looks like a power supply issue. I put the videocard slider down to "balanced" and the problem essentially goes away, no more random bouts of extreme slowdown. However, this forces me to play at far lower settings that what I could originally achieve without lowering the power. (but suffering the said bouts of extreme slowdown)
The difference here is that i'm running XP and still get the problem. Anyone know what causes this? I'd like to actually be able to use my videocard at its full potential.

  • Satellite P100: Graphic card Issues

I have had problems with overheating... but before we get into that,
How can I figure out exactly what model I have?
I know I have a P100, but I'm looking on the bottom of my laptop and it offers no clue as to what type of P100 it is.
I want to know because I'm trying to find the most recent display driver for my laptop, which has a 7600 GeForce Go.
Also, I have very severe problems with overheating, and my laptop shuts down automatically when I run even the most basic of video programs for too long.
I want to clean up the dust in the heatsink/fan but I have no idea how to open up the laptop to do it.
This is a lot of issues for one post so thanks for any help.

    Hello
On the bottom side there must be a label with model number. Can you find it? can you post model or serial number? Anything?
What to say about overheating? Satellite P100 is older notebook model and I can imagine that dust blocks cooling grill and notebook hardware cannot be cooled down properly. The best way to make notebook clean is disassembling but you do not have maintenance manuals and you should not do this alone. All you can do is to use vacuum cleaner.
If you want to do this on professional way, contact service. At the moment try to place notebook a little bit higher, maybe on 4 CD boxes or something. So you will have more distance between desk and your Satellite notebook.

  • Satellite P100-434 Older BIOS needed

    Hello everyone,
I'm in serious need of an older BIOS version for a P100-434 (PSPAD/E) laptop. I recently flashed my BIOS with the latest version 4.80 and am having problems:
    - My CD/DVD Drive has disappeared
    - According to SpeedFan everything except HD0 is on fire - Temp1, Core 0 and 1 above 50C and my GPU above 60C
    - The fans keep going off like crazy
    - It sometime freezes
After flashing, it automatically rebooted and froze for 10sec or more and then Windows took ages to load all the drivers (the loading bar kept going for 21sec or more, usually only takes half that).
I was running version 4.70 before and had completely (as far as I could tell) no problems with it but I thought updating it might give me better stability. I would really appreciate any help you can give, thanks.

When the new BIOS update is available old version is not downloadable anymore. What you can try is to contact nearest authorized service provider and ask for help. They have access to Toshiba database and Im pretty sure they can obtain older version for you.
1/ to be honest I cannot imagine ODD issue has anything to do with BIOS update. Is optical disc drive recognized in BIOS, device manager or Windows explorer? Remove it from the device manager list, restart notebook and check functionality again. Check also method offered by Akuma
2/ Believe me these temperatures are not critical so there is no reason for panic.
3/ if you want to reduce cooling fan activity change settings for cooling method. These settings you can find in Toshiba power saver utility.
4/ For such periodical freezing issues is not easy to offer some solution. Watch carefully what happen exactly. Maybe is some certain activity responsible for this freezing issues.

  • Re: Satellite P100-434: Unable to load sound drivers running Xp Pro

I have a P100-434 (SPAD), which is currently running XP Pro I decided that I wanted to rebuild the OS as it was becomming very cluttered and slow.
I have partitioned the HD and installed a 2nd copy of XP Pro with dual boot, however I find that I cannot load the sound drivers onto the NEW XP.
Driver installation aborts and reports NO MEDIA FOUND.
I checked the driver that I had downloaded against the old XP installation and it works fine, finds the sound card and installs the drivers.
I'm at a bit of a loss as to why a vanilla OS installation can't find the soundcard.
So can anyone point me in the right direction to get some sound? (I have reloaded XP twice with the same result each time).
    Message was edited by: exraflad

Windows XP needs *KB888111* and *KB835221* hotfix from MS site before you will install sound driver.
    - you have to install both patches
    - download the Conexant sound driver from the Toshiba page. I found two different versions. I would recommend checking both!
    - remove the old sound driver from device manager reboot the notebook and install the new downloaded sound driver

  • Satellite P100-434 does not have Intel Vitualisation (VT)

    Hi,
My shiney new P100-434 which cost me a fairly serious amount of money does not have Intel Vitualisation (VT) enabled which is annoying because I went for this laptop specifically because it was Core 2 Duo which supports VT and I want it in order to run KQEMU faster under Linux.
There is no option to switch it on in the BIOS and no updated BIOS available either.
Anyone know if a BIOS with the option to enable this feature is coming or suggestions for who I should complain at to make this happen faster? I see plenty of other people in the forums with other models that similarly have it disabled by default and no BIOS option to turn it on!
    Cheers,
    Jamie

  • Satellite M40-133: startup issue after shutdown

When shutting down my Satellite M40-133 EN if I start it up again all I get is the Toshiba wellcome screen.
If it is left for some time it will startup as normal. When running it is quite warm.
    Please help.

For me it sounds like an issue related to the overheating.
It seems the notebook cannot start and boot properly due to a high internal temperature.
The main reason why a overheating issue happens is very simply.
The cooling modules dont work correctly. I think the dust and debris prevent the cooling fans from running with full performance.
A simply fan cleaning should help you.
From time to time I clean my ventilators too. I use a compressed air spray. Such sprays are very useful to get rid of dust and most computer/notebook dealers offer such sprays.
If it will not improve the situation then a notebook technician should disassemble the notebook and should clean it properly. Additionally he should renew the thermal grease which is placed between the CPU and cooling module, too.
    Good luck

  • Satellite P100-434: Wireless connection problem with Vista

Just purchased this laptop with Vista and so far have been unable to get the wireless to connect, I have 3 other computers and they will all connect, I have reset the router and set new accounts on all the other computers with no problem, but unable to do this on the P100.
Tried the new RADAR feature and this will not pick any networks up, but when trying to establish new connection it shows that a wireless network is available but is unnamed, although my network is named, I have taken the passkey off the network so that it is open but still will not connect into it, LAN via ethernet works fine.
Wireless switch is on, but when I slide it to off wireless switch status says ON

    Hi
I cannot give you an exactly answer why you cannot connect to you WLan with the Vista because there are so many options which must be checked.
But I think you will find the solution yourself with a little help from Microsoft website.
    Please check this site:

  • Toshiba Satellite pro sp6000 startup issues

    Hi There,
I've been having problems with my sp6000 - it refuses to turn on most of the time. 1 in every 100 tries it might turn like nothing was ever wrong. Normally though, the green light turns on for less than second and then disappears.
I have a feeling it MAYBE to do with the cdr/dvd combo drive - as it responds differently when this is removed, tho I havent got another drive at hand to test this theroy.
    Thanks for any help,
    Toby

    Hi Toby
If You suspect the optical drive is the problem of your machine, simply plug it out and try start without it. That is supposed to work just fine.
    Good luck

  • Displays switch around when using dual view on Satellite P100

I have a Satellite P100-434 (PSPADE). I am trying to use the laptop as the primary display and an LCD screen as a secondary monitor. I have found that no matter how I configure this, using either the Vista display properties or through the Nvidea control panel I am getting a problem where the monitors periodically swap over.
I am not bothered which device is the primary but getting the system to make it's mind up would be really usefull.
This seems to happen when I am typing, making me wonder if there is a keypress that I am inadvertantly triggering which is causing this to happen. Ideas anyone?

    Hi,
you should do the following things:
    - update your bios to the latest available version
    - update your display drivers and any other remaining drivers in your system to the latest available version
    - maybe, if the driver updates dont really help you out, recover your machine with the recovery media and check if the error re-appears.
IF all these steps didnt worked for you, then come back and we will discuss it further. :)

  • Satellite P100-286 - Vertical lines on the screen and constant reboots

I got this P100-286 with Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS and recently the laptop started freezing with vertical lines on the screen tried different options even tried recovery cd to re-install and after installation it started doing the same. I have read similar problems in the forum and is this a common problem with Toshiba? I have spend 1500 on this and it is only 3 years old. My friends have laptops older than this almost 6 years and in good working condition.
Is there any solution or suggestion for this problem? The heat on the base of the laptop is really hot and it is like this for ages.
Any help is really appreciated after spending this much would like to last longer or it is a realibility issue with Toshiba brand.

It is happening in BIOS and even tried ubuntu on a boot cd and still having the same problem. I took to a PC servicing center they immediatly said it is a graphics card problem. The lines are comming in an external display as well. If you search in this forum you will see similar issues is reported by another user. I do think it is a genuine problem. The graphics chip is on board and it cost a lot to replace it that is what I been told.

  • Satellite P100-105L: WLan connection issues

    i have following problem.
have Satellite P100-105 notes, with XP home. All drivers up to date, connecting via WiFi.
When i connect to internet via IE7/IE6/Mozilla/Opera some times i have just message "waiting for reply from ....." in statusbar, and the page wont load.
If i refresh its ok, or at some pages it just dont work even if i refresh (typically on typo 3 saving document).
    1. i have no viruses, no trojans.
    2. tryed with IE without addons, allso with IE when i was in "safe mode" of XP.
    3. Downloaded latest WIFI drivers, latest bios.
    4. when i try it on other notes from toshiba, else model with win vista on IE7, it works normally. Allso when i upload/download huge files, its ok.
    5. have legal, and up to date windows XP with SP2
so i can say 4 things:
    1. its not caused by signal,
    2. its browsing soft independant.
    3. it may be not caused by HW error, if it would, large downloads/uploads will fail
    4. any other software it is in memory in normal state, its not causing this.
    SOMEBODY HELPPP
    its very, very annoying.

    >When i connect to internet via IE7/IE6/Mozilla/Opera some times i have just message "waiting for reply from ....." in statusbar, and the page wont load.
You said sometimes??? So I assume it does not happen every time while you are using the WLan.
    >4. When i try it on other notes from Toshiba, else model with win vista on IE7, it works normally. Also when i upload/download huge files, its ok.
The both notebooks use the same WLan card? If not then there could be a compatibility issue between the router and WLan card
But generally its not easy to say what the problem could be. Did you check of the same message appears using the LAN cable?
    Check this!

  • Satellite P100 - BSOD when I try to write to a DVD or CD

I have a Satellite P100, when I try to write to a DVD or CD I get the blue screen, error 50, and my laptop closes down.
It doesn't matter what type of DVD or CD I use or which brand.
Also, I have an external DVD drive and the very same thing happens with this.
This only happens with blank discs and after I have formated it.
If I use a disc with even a very small file on it eg. one photo, the disc drive works perfectly.
It displays no other problems. The drive is a Mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA device and I'm using Vista.
I've been told that Vista will not allow me copy copyrighted discs but this happens before I try to copy anything.

    hi eddie-g,
    nice problem you have here....
    - which application do you use to burn a disc?
    - are there more than one applications installed to burn?
    - virtual drives installed?
    - is there a log (mostly in the program directory) which gives some more info?
    - any problems with reading a cd/dvd?
i only know a error "50" from toast, a mac application to burn...?!
i think best is to recover the system to make sure its not a software thing...
or deinstall every burning application and use only the windows features to write on a disc to make sure what kind of error kills your dvds...
it could be a hardware error too...

  • Satellite P100-347: Blue screen appears on start up - unable to boot volume

Recently I left my 2 younger brothers playing NFS Carbon on my satellite P100-347, preinstalled with media centre 2005 edition, and now it fails to startup.
During the startup process eventually a blue screen is displayed for about a second and then it shutsdown (I manged to make out the words "unable to boot volume" from the blue screen).
I tried booting with an XP media centre DVD but it only gives me an option of reinstalling the OS with a price of losing all my very important data. Normally I would have recovered the system but I don't want to lose my data.
Is there anything i can do other than taking it to a technician?

    Hi
Well, mostly the BSOD appears due to a hardware problem or serious software issue.
In your case the software problem is possible
Unfortunately, I think the new OS installation is the best way to get the notebook running correctly.
Now you want to know how to save the data and files well, I think you should remove the HDD from notebook and should try to connect the 2.5 HDD via external USB controller to another computer. Then you could save the files on the other HDD
I think, now you know that the regular backups are important and necessary!!!!
