Satellite P100 - time clock keeps changing

The clock on my Satellite P100 keeps changing (running Win XP MCE) randomly during the day while it is powered on.
When I start up PC in morning, clock is similar time to when I switched it off the day before.
I use my PC in my office connected to mains power. For the first few months of ownership I left main battery out of computer because I wanted to preserve it's life. I don't want to run on battery power and go through a charge-discharge process all day long while I am working. I wondered if this might be the problem and now keep the main battery plugged in all the time but the clock still keeps changing.
The clock does not change by precise hours, but to an almost random time sometime before the correct time. Sometimes a few minutes, sometimes a couple of hours.
I have installed and run all the latest anti-virus, spyware etc. etc. and nothing is detected.
Does it look like my CMOS/RTC battery faulty?
This is my work computer and I cannot afford to be without it for more than a day. I also do not want to return it with all my company data on the hard disk.
Anyone know how easy it is to replace the RTC battery yourself (I know it will invalidate the warranty) - I am an experienced PC "builder" and can happily take computers apart etc.
I hope someone can offer some advice. Why don't Toshiba have a support line you can call for help??

Unfortunately I have not fixed the problem yet.
As explained in my original post I am reluctant to take the computer back for repair as a) I cannot be without it and b) it has company sensitive data on it.
However, if it will not invalidate the warranty to put a different hard disk in it, I may do that and then use the recovery CD to put it back to how it was when purchased. Then make sure the problem still exists (to eliminiate software issues 100%) and then maybe take it back to the shop - this solves reason b) above, but not reason a) - Maybe I should just take a holiday!!
Once it's fixed I just put my original hard disk back in.

  • TS2784 I have set my iphone5 time settings to automatic New York time. Throughout the day the clock keeps changing times on its own by hours. Sometimes in is correct. Sometimes it is wrong.

I have set my iphone5 time settings to automatic at New York time. Throughout the day the date and time on the phone keeps changing on its own and often by a few hours. Sometimes it goes to the correct time. Sometimes it is way out. Is there something wrong with my settings?

This is a known issue with the iPhone 5. Turn off the automatic time setting for the time being. It will most likely be corrected in an upcoming update to iOS if the tech press is to be believed.

  • Satellite Pro M30: Clock keeps going 1h back

    Hi,
One of the users has a Satellite Pro, model No:PSM35E, the clock on the PC keeps going 1hr back. Even after the clock is changed to the correct settings (GMT...etc, Daylight saving is ticked). But when it's restarted it defaults to go back 1hr?
    Any known issues with this???
    Regards
    Raz.

    Hi Raz
I have found this issue on many PC forums and it is not related to specific PC or notebook and the strange is that I have never found any explanation for this. If your unit is permanent online I recommend you to use Automatically synchronize with an Internet time server option in Date and Time properties.

  • Why does my iPod clock keep changing and then I can't access anything without connecting charger

Recently my iPod keeps changing time. It's seems to be losing time. When this happens I can't access anything without connecting lead and turning it off briefly.

    Could the battery be dying?
Have yu tried the standard fixes:
    - Reset:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore the iPod from backup via iTunes
    - Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • IMac OS X (Mavericks) time/clock keeps going out of sync

    Hi,
I have a late 2012 27" iMac Intel desktop and for the last few weeks the clock/time does not stay in Sync. It seems to 'gain' around 1 minute per day. It is set to update automatically from the 'set date and time automatically' and if I check then uncheck the box in settings it corrects.
This seems a simple solution but it is not a 'fix'. The bigger issue is I run a Parallels Windows to run my desktop trading software (I am a full-time market trader), which takes the time from the OS X enviroment. This has caused HUGE problems as I took several trades on the DOW eMini, believing the New York market had opened (we trade to the second) only to later discover I was several minutes early on each trade which ended up costing me several thousands of £'s.
Suddenly the problem isn't a small issue any more and I need to know how to remedy it. I now return to the settings window every few hours to reset it but its not a solution.
I have seen posts relating to the problem which describe how one needs to recompile elements of the operating system but I fail to see how this should be necessary when I have paid for a premium product. Surely keeping time is something Apple feels is important?
Any help would be well received, thank you.

I must admit I'm a little perplexed at how something as simple as timekeeping seems to be such an issue. I'd have thought that's a bit of an abacus moment for Apple...
It is not normally an issue at all, unlike Frank though I have seen it before, only once, and in a current thread.
Here is the other thread: Re: Clock not right, and more
And just like this one I do not have a definitive answer for you I am afraid.

  • Clock keeps changing

I set my clock for a regular reading but it keeps switching to military time.

Hi Verafy306, sorry to hear that you are not able to get the time to stay consistent on your computer. So I can better research this issue, may I please have the exact model number of your computer? Also, what is the exact version of Windows you are using? Is it Windows 7 or Windows 8? They are two different operating systems entirely. Once I have all the information that I have requested, I will then be able to research the issue and hopefully get it resolved for you.
Thank you for your time and patience.

  • System clock keeps changing on KT400 MS 6590

    Hi Guys,
I'm not sure why but my system clock seems to change. The problem isn't every time I log into Windows XP but at random. If I restart then the clock goes to the correct time again. Is there any way of correcting this other than changing the times in Windows and the BIOS. I have also tried clearing the COMS, but this hasn't worked either.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

  • Time/date keep changing

In the past few days, my Iphone has been changing from current date/time (January 30 at various times) back to January 1st or 3rd and not the correct time. Is anyone else having this happen?

We have 4 iPhones in the house and they're all experiencing this problem at random. I spoke with an AT&T CSR and she had me do the usual trouble shooting steps but nothing helped. She transferred me to a "Network Technician" who checked the network and said there was "definitely" no problem on AT&T's end and that I needed to call Apple. He may be right since not all of the iPhones in the house experience the problem at the same time. Sometimes, like today, only 1 of the 4 is experiencing the time date problem. We've seen the problem on 3.1.2 and 3.1.3. The phone experiencing it began showing the right time & date before I could call Apple.

  • Clock keeps changing back 4 hours..why?

it is set to Boston, USA time zone but every two days or so it reverts back 4 hours. Is there something I am missing?

I too am having the same problem.
Even if I manually set the time instead of using the time servers the time decreases by 4 hours.

  • Date and time on my iPhone keeps changing to GMT or Cupertino time

    Hi,
Somehow my date and time settings keeps changing to GMT/Cupertino despite setting it to Mumbai (India). Because of this all my alarms and calendar events have gone for a toss. I have changed the time to Mumbai multiple times, but it keeps switching back without event touching the phone. I even upgraded to 2.0.2 but the problem persists. Any idea what else can I do to get this working.
    Thanks,
    Avinash

I picked this up from another thread (I tried 2.0.1 and 2.02 upgrades too with no success). The following worked, though:
    - Plug your iPhone into you Macbook / PC and allow iTunes to do a full backup (I had to right click the iphone icon and select backup).
    - Right click your iPhone under DEVICES in iTunes and click on Restore. Choose the back up you have just made
    - From within your iPhone, tap the Settings icon, choose General and then Date & Time. Choose Time Zone and change the time zone to your desired city.
    - To test the change has worked, tap the Date & Time back arrow at the top left and then click on the home button. Finally, go back to the Time Zone option within Settings and the time zone should have stayed as the one you chose.
Note: Is your iPhone 3G’s GPS facility taking ages to pinpoint your location? The above changes will fix this problem as well

  • How do I stop the IP address on my Time capsule from changing

I am running 2 security camera's that run on DHCP. I need to enter my IP address plus the camera name as the URL to view. But the IP address on my Time Capsule keeps changing. How do I stop this from happening?

    Welcome to the discussions, GimpyRich!
But the IP address on my Time Capsule keeps changing. How do I stop this from happening?
The IP address is issued to the Time Capsule by your internet service provider and it is normal for it to change from time to time, sometimes daily.
You should ask your internet service provider if they can furnish you with a "Static" IP address so that the Time Capsule will always have the same IP address.
If your provider offers this option, there will likely be an additional fee for this service.

  • [SOLVED] Brightness keeps changing: upowerd?

    Hi,
My current system keeps changing the brightness on a number of system events:
    - wake-up from suspend
    - power cable inserted
    - power cable removed
So every time I keep changing my brightness back to a usable level.
There is some activity in upowerd, so I assume upowerd is either responsible or used by some other system component.
Can you tell me where and how I can change this behavior?

    So here's what I did:
Disable Upowerd by moving the config out of  /etc/dbus-1/system.d & restart
=> On the events mentioned, the brightness still get's updated, but to a different--much more acceptable--level.
    So let's be sure:
Activate Upowerd again, by moving config back & restart
=> The brightness is still on the same acceptable level.
Yay, problem solved! Or is it?
Some hours later, my brightness was again updated to darkness on any of the events. -.-'
So I assume that somewhere under the hood, there is an "update-brightness" that is used for any of the events mentioned. And somewhere else there is a "mysterious process" changing the "update-brightness" on some events (possibly on low battery power).
At this point I have no idea where either "update-brightness" or "mysterious process" are, but I would assume that it is related to systemd. (The developer of my WM, qtile made it clear that they are not changing the levels. The BIOS also does not have any configurable brightness option.)
If you have any hints on "update-brightness" or "mysterious process", I would be happy to try them .
@Name Taken: Yeah hacking the thing would be a possiblity. Not my favourite, though. It s-h-o-u-l-d be so simple.
EDIT: So it's definitely independent of UPowerd. And it is not related with low battery levels.

  • Satellite L775D-S7222 clock will not keep correct time

When I turn on/leave my computer on my time will change anywhere from 5 minutes to about 5 days ahead. It happens everytime I use my computer. I change the time constantly and also have tried changing time zones and changing the websites in which the time can be synced from. Its a small problem but it is very aggravating! I've heard that this could be a hardware problem, but hopefully that is not the case!

Try DFU mode and then restore to factory settings/new iPod. Not from backup

The clock on my Iphone 5S keeps changing to a different time, at 8AM is said it was 2. I restarted it and it worked for a little while then went back to 2 again. It has done it two more times today... I have not done the most recent software update to my phone.

    Hey abcal,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the time keeps changing. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.
