Satellite P20-S203 internal bluetooth

Hi,
I've just checked under the modem board in my P20-S203 and there is place to install a bluetooth internal card. It should connect to the motherboard via a ribbon cable like the bluetooth module for the M200 series. However, I cannot find the exact part number for my computer anywhere...
Also, there are some P20 computers that already come with internal bluetooth installed. Which part number is applicable to my computer? I already have a bluetooth SD Card 2 and I am always afraid that I break it or loose it...
Kind regards
Fernando Birra

Hi,
I can not understand why you do not use your Bluetooth SD Card. If you have problem with small parts buy the bigger one. :)
Bluetooth PC Card (TDK) seems to be proper for your Notebook. The information you can find under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Products > Options & Accessories > Communications. Part number is PX1086E-1PCC.

  • Satellite P20-S203 shuts down suddenly

    Hi,
In the last month my Satellite P20-S203 is not behaving so well, and unfortunately it seems the problem is a hardware one (but I'm not sure, and that's why Im writing here)
The computer just shuts down suddenly (it happened 2 or 3 times in the last 30 days); all the times it did happen I was on the web on Firefox, but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with that, and I'm also 99% sure it's not a virus, malware or anything like that, cause I formatted about 3 months ago, and nothing else behave in a strange way, the computer is not slow or anything like that.
The last two options are that the issue may be of hardware nature, or of a software one (like a conflict between installed programs and the OS); I'm more for the first one, but I'm not sure and I need help to find out... What should I do?
Also, when it suddenly shuts down, it won't turn on with the first try.
It needs like 10 or 20 times to open, like an old car that doesn't start; the first, say, 5 times I try to turn it on, it will only display the toshiba logo.
Then it passes through a screen I cannot read because it's too fast.
Then to a black screen and finally it turns off again.
With the next tries it goes a little bit more far, like it displays the windows logo, but, as that picture fades in, it stops at half of the fading process, resulting in a darker windows logo, like it's too hard for it to load the OS!!
But then it goes off again!
Then after some other tries it finally loads windows.
Any help would be highly appreciated, thank you!
    OS: Windows XP SP2

No it's ok Jayjay, I purchased this morning the right screwdriver (here in Greece these type of screws are called "French" or most internationally "torx" screws).
So I took away the cover above the fans, unscrewed the heat sink, removed the heat sink and together with that the cpu came up. I've now removed the old thermal grease and I'm ready to put the new one.
I like to mess around with things, I like to assemble and disassemble, I like to know how things work...but I also know, thanks to my personal experience, that there's no way not to make any damage when you mess around :) but that's ok with me, I' m used to it, as soon the pc will open once finished :D
Anyway, I have to admit that if I worked with a little more method now everything would be ok, like making a map of the screws, knowing where to put them back, because now two screws on the back won't mount any more (precisely the F6 screws on the back panel, where the usb, vga and parallel connectors are), and two more screws are in excess (!) If someone has the time to do it, please unscrew just these two screws (the F6 on the back) and post a photo of the screws, or just tell me the height, even if I'm sure that the problem is elsewhere.
    Goodbye

  • Satellite P20-S203: What DVD drive is supported and compatible

I have a P20-S203 the problem i am having is identifying a replacement DVD (any) i have the carriage but no drive,
Can anyone point me in the right direction of which drives will work.

    Hello Martin
On this forum I have found few interesting topics about ODD replacement on Satellite P20. It seems to be that TEAC DV-W22E drive is perfect for ODD replacement. It is DVD-RAM ODD and you will have DVD burner with RAM function.
Google a little bit around and pick up info about price.

  • Some suggestions for a hardware upgrade on P20-S203

Hi,i'm gonna upgrade my satellite P20-S203 'cause i've got now an unespected budget of 500 euro.
I just would like to have some suggestions.
First of all: is it mad to think changing the motherboard? And if it doesn't sound too crazy, which one(Obviously from toshiba,as it has to fit perfectly with all the rest of the equipement,or if you know any other name that would still fit good into the notebook...).
Second,a REAL sound card, with externals line in & out(yes i do play guitar... :-))),any suggestion is welcome, even if i've got already some names in my mind.
Third,a wireless card,as this model has got a dedicated place...my thought woul be obviously for a toshiba one, what you think?would i have any problem if i chose the 100 Mbit/s one?
That's it,i hope you'll help me decide...any personal experience on the upgrade of this model is really welcome.
    Thank you
    Cheers

    Hello Nerd,
you only can upgrade a few things on a notebook, like memory or HDD. A notebook is not a desktop. The most components are specially designed for one model and they don't fit in any other model.
So I'm sorry to say that you can't upgrade your motherboard and sound card.
But you can put a wireless card in your laptop.
    WiFi Standard 802.11b
The best way is to buy it from a Toshiba service partner. There you get the right card.
    Hope this was helpful.

  • Satellite A500-011 PSAR0C-01100D - internal Bluetooth adapter

I have Satellite A500-011 PSAR0C-01100D, I'm looking for an internal Bluetooth PCI adapter that slides in, on the side of the laptop into the pci card slot. without opening the computer)
Can someone help me find the part number ?
I remember seeing it in the toshiba site,a while back, but not there anymore, can't find it. I would like to order one.
i have an external USB Bluetooth adapter but it's a bit flaky and it sticks out and gets caught in the bag etc.
There is a internal module available but I don't want to open up the case and damage it.
    thanks

*Replacing Wireless Card with WiFi & BT Combination Card.*
Hopefully it will be compatible with the computer. Make sure that it is half PCI-e size.
Example of what it should look like: http://www.compactpci-systems.com/products/id/?45200
First, the laptop should be placed bottom side up to expose the doors.
The centre most door that uses one screw to open should be the one to open.
When open, you should see the RAM exposed.
In addition to this, there is the wireless modem card.
Unscrew two 2.5x3 screws that secure the card.
    Remove from the slot.
Take the Wireless WiFi & BT combination card, and slip it into the slot.
    Secure with the two screws.
Close the lid, and secure with screw.
Install any necessary software and drivers. . .
    *For dedicated BT:*
For A500 models, you need a version 2.1 + EDR (antenna on mobile type) model for bluetooth.
This would involve removing the keyboard and acccessing the top of the motherboard; a more intriciate process.

If your notebook model was also sold with Bluetooth then it is most likely that also your notebook can be equipped with a Bluetooth module, if not then not. All internal bluetooth modules are USB based. The very old ones are from SiW and then new ones from CSR. So I guess the form factor has the highest priority for you.
In this case I would consider to by a SD Bluetooth card 3, but you should check first if your SD slot supports SDIO in you notebook manual. This is required to get it working. I found this information on the Toshiba bluetooth website.

  • Does Satellite A100-233 supports Bluetooth?

    Hi
I have Satellite A100-233. Can I establish internal bluetooth adapter in this model?
    Thanks

    Hi
All notebooks with BT adapter have a BT label at the bottom of the unit.
If your unit has no BT label so the BT adapter was not installed.
As recommended in the previous posting you could use a external solution like a BT USB stick. This is very easy to use.

  • Memory and HDD expansion on Satellite 1805-s203

    Satellite 1805-s203
    Intel Celeron 800 MHz
    128MB expandable to 512MB
    15 GB HDD
I've recently installed 256MB of memory and there appeared to be only to slots for memory. To expand my memory to 512MB do i have to remove the 128Mb memory and replace it with a 256?
Also, how else can i upgrade this laptop? Could I increase the HDD? How much could i increase it with 512MBs of memory?

    Hello
It is not easy to find precise info about older notebook models. According the notebook info it can handle with max 512 MB RAM. Compatible RAM module is KTT-SO815/256 256MB Memory- (Kingston). Using two of them you can have max RAM and notebook will run much faster.
About HDD is not easy to say for sure but I think you can upgrade to 30 or even 60 GB, but 30 should not be problem.

  • Satellite P20-771: Blue screen error message after OS reinstalling

    I have a laptop Satellite P20-771 / Pentium 4 3.40GHz (800/HTT) / XP Home/ 17' with nVidia Geo5700 driver.
As I had some problems with software, and I reinstalled everything using the provided CDs. Unfortunately the computer keeps malfunctioning giving me blue screen errors, that are due (this comes out when I sumbit the error to Microsoft) to device drivers. I updated everything (I hope) from the Toshiba page, but I am not an expert and I am worried that I missed something or that something has not been loaded in the right order or that the setting are incorrect.
Thank in advance for your help
    Roberto

    Hello
I have also P20 (red one) and have never had any problem after using provided recovery media. According to your posting there must be two possible reasons for blue screen:
    1. you have installed some additional software that causes bluescreen or
    2. there is some hardware component responsible for that (new memory module or maybe some external device connected to the unit)
Sorry but I dont see any other reason. On this way it is not easy to give precise answer and we can just speculate why this happen.

  • Is it possible to install Win XP on Satellite P20 w/o DVD drive?

Hi, I'm new to this support forum, but I'm hoping you can help with my problem.
Windows has become corrupt on my Satellite P20-521, yet I'm unable to use the Recovery Disc as the DVD drive has ceased functioning. I was wondering if there is any other possible method for installing the OS onto my laptop without the need for the drive. I have gotten to a stage where the harddrive is essentially formatted (due to placing the HD into another laptop and performing a windows boot that formatted and copied windows install data, however, this hasn't worked in terms of installing windows).
Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

Okay, thanks for the help and suggestions guys. With the info you gave me, I managed to think out the most awkward and roundabout method possible. I've noted it down so that others may attempt to do so in the future if they so desire.
    Process to install Windows:
Transfer HDD from Toshiba Satellite (Comp A) to Dell Latitude (Comp B)
Copy the 'i386' folder from the Windows XP CD to a USB Memory Stick
Use a DOS CD to boot into DOS on Comp B
Delete all partitions and create 2gb FAT16 partition
    Format C: Drive
    Install DOS to HDD ('XCOPY A: C:\DOS' & 'SYS A: C:')
    Remove DOS CD
    Restart
Test booting into DOS (if it doesn't work, repeat steps above or find method to remove the MBR)
    Restart
Use 'Damn Small Linux' live CD to boot into Linux
Mount HDA1 (Harddrive FAT16 partition) and SDA1 (USB Memory Stick)
Transfer the 'i386' folder from SDA1 to HDA1 using File Manager
    Restart
(Optional: Activate 'smartdrive.exe' in DOS if it's available)
Activate 'WINNT.EXE' from within i386 folder
    Follow Windows XP Installation procedure
(Note: somefiles may not be found when it's in the copying stage, this may be due to the version of Windows XP you copied the i386 folder from)
Warning! Can take numerous hours to complete without 'smartdrive.exe'.
For me, due to the only readily available disc being an 'upgraded' XP (came with lots of tools and service packs allready installed for convenience) install disc, I found files 'missing' during the file copying stage prior to actual Windows installation:
    ieframe.dll.mui
    msfeedsbs.dll
The files are part of Internet Explorer 7, and are neither crucial to installation nor the running of Windows XP.

  • DVD-R recording/burning problem on Satellite P20

I have a Satellite P20 notebook with a Multi Dvd-RAM drive (which should support both DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD/RW discs for recording). I'm experiencing some difficulties recording data to DVD-R discs - basically when I insert a blank DVD-R the D drive is not even accessable.
I have tried recording to a DVD-RAM disc which worked fine (went through the usual procedure of turning off regular CD recording etc) so it only seems to be DVD-R's which are the problem.
    any ideas people?

You should check if the recording function in the drive properties is enabled.

  • Mac Pro and the Internal Bluetooth Antenna

    Hello All;
Recently I acquired a Sony Bluetooth headphone. It works great for my MacBook Pro and iPod Touch. It is another story with my Mac Pro, it drops out frequently. I wonder if it is possible to improve the internal Bluetooth antenna inside my Mac Pro so that I can have no dropouts.
My Mac Pro is the 3.0 GHz 8-core early 2008 edition.
    Thank you.

  • Shattered screen, external screen in standby with Satellite A10-S203

The screem of my Toshiba Satellite A10-S203 is shattered, it is all tripes, colors and black spaces. I connected the laptop with an external screen, but as soon as Windows starts the external screen goes on stand-by. How can I change this?

    Hello,
I have had this issue as well before. After Windows starts the video is reset resetting the video output to LCD instead of external monitor. Once this happens try using Fn+F5. If this does not work, you might be able to boot up and press F8, once it gives you the windows selection menu go to safe mode. Once there go to video properties and change the default settings to external monitor, and try rebooting normally. Should work wonders. Hope this helps, if not let me know.

  • Question about internal Bluetooth connector on Tecra 8100?

    Hello all.
I have a pt810e-13c52-sp notebook. Upgraded to 512MB by using 2 toshiba 256mb pc100 modules bought in ebay, upgraded to a PIII 850 also got in ebay, and upgraded to a bigger 40GB wdc wd400e hard disk, with much less noise than 12GB original one.
Messing with my computer i have found an internal "bluetooth" connector next to the internal one that belongs to the keyboard.
Why is this?? Is there any unreleased Bluetooth module for Toshiba Tecra 8100??

    Hi Toka
Maybe I am wrong but I have found info that Tecra 8100 has no BT and this model can not be upgraded with BT module. Usually BT will be used just sometimes and if you need BT you can use USB BT stick. It is pretty easy to configure it and this small part can be used whenever you need it.
