Satellite P200-1JR: Display suddenly gets blank only reboot helps.

Hi,
I have laptop Toshiba P200-1JR, and I'm satisfied by performances.
Unfortunately, I have experienced few problems for which I'm not sure if they are hardware (manufacture) or driver (software) problem.
1. Display sometimes (maybe once a week) suddenly gets blank. Nothing special wasn't done previously, which shpuld be the trigger. Just at once. Only reboot helps.
2. The same as 1, but previously dislplay just for few second gets crazy. Some side lines (like magnetic interrups) are on screen.
I've just downloaded bunch of driver updates (haven't applied them yet), but I want to ask before is this problem already known?

I've applied most of the updates available on Toshiba site for this model, including BIOS update.
But the problem persists!
The screen started blinking uncontroled for about 15 seconds, then it become completely blank.
Then I've pressed Power button [Sleep mode], and again the same button [Wake from sleep], and the machine continued working normaly.
I'm not sure but I think that previously (before BIOS update) I had to restart the machine in order to get it work again.
I'm interested if anyone here had similar problem?
(I ask this because I want to know should I return it to salesman or should I wait for some update)

I have Toshiba P200-1JR.
When I'm connecting laptop to receiver trough optical cable and trying to watch movies with AC3 5.1 sound, I'm getting only stereo sound.
1. Receiver is working correctly with PS3 and DVD player.
2. In S/PDIF options I have configuration with only 2 speakers.

Im not sure if you will be able to watch movies with AC 5.1 sound.
The point is that this notebook supports the Audio Format: 24bit (DAC, playback), 16bit (ADC, recording), stereo.
Furthermore it would be very interesting to know where you have found the S/PDIF jack. ?:|
In my knowledge this notebook supports only mic jack and headphone jack.
The headphone jack lets you connect _stereo_ headphones or other audio-output devices as external speakers. I didnt find any S/PDIF jacks.
I have connected my notebook to a hifi and in my case the HiFi equipment produces the 5.1 sound and not the notebooks sound card!

Satellite P200-1BY - Wi-Fi turns off after reboot

Hello,
On Satellite P200-1BY, on reboot, the wi-fi turns off on reboot. The switch then is useless.
I don't know where does this come from, and another reboot set the thing right.

Can you enable it again with FN+F8?

Satellite P200-1K8 - Can't get the display and sound drivers to work

I'm getting desperate. I tried everything I could imagine.
First - don't get the catalyst control center to work, I only have the graphic driver installed now (tried both - the one from Toshiba and with Mobility Modder modified ATi driver - none works.
Second - when I install the sound driver the Realtek sound manager is encoutering the problem and must close every time at startup. And yes, I did update the BIOS to ver. 5.20, installed XPSP3, installed chipset driver (newest from Intel homepage or the one from Toshiba, no matter which, always same issue).
Please help. I don't want to spend rest of my life trying to get XP onto my laptop.

So I did check the BIOS version again and it is 5.40 indeed. Then I installed the updates from Microsoft that were downloaded when Iwas away. I think that was mistake. Errors, errors, malicious software (and there were only some codecs and players installed yet). So I reformated and reinstalled the Windows and drivers except audio driver.
According to MS (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/835221/en-us & http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/en-us) the patch KB888111 is the updated KB835221 and before installing it, the KB835221 should be uninstalled. So I tried to install the KB888111 only and got Error message: Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying. It seems that I don't need to install these patches since I have XPSP3.
So I installed the sound driver again and in Device manager everything seems to be OK. I only have this annoying message at every startup: Realtek Voice Manager encountered a problem and must close. What is this Voice manager anyway? And any other solution? I didn't install the camera yet. I think it won't work again.
Any new ideas?

Hi there, having problems getting WPA to work on my laptop - P200-144. I can get a connection without WPA however I need to use WPA. I keep getting a time out error.

I have'nt tried WEP to any great extent, however I recall it not working. I can connect when no security on the Router. Also noted that if I enter an incorrect netkey the error message changes to one suggesting passkey incorrect? with correct passkey I get timeout error

Satellite P200-1EE - Can I get a Blu-Ray drive for it?

At last, Toshiba have joined the BDA!!!!!!
Does any one know if or when they will release a Blu-Ray drive to replace the HD-DVD drives in a P200-1EE?
I know this post may be little premature but I have felt betrayed ever since buying the laptop and 3 weeks later Toshiba dropping the HD-DVD format.

I dont know when Toshiba will release a Bluray drive that you can buy to exchange it with your HD-DVD drive.
But maybe a drive from another manufacture will also work on your notebook. In your case I would go to the nearest computer shop and ask for such a drive. Maybe you can test it in the shop if it works because not all drives are compatible with all notebooks (e. g. pin assignment).

Satellite P200-1EE - Can't get camera to start

After plunging through the forums I notice a lot of people have been having problems with their built in web cams.
Before the camera was just moody, turning on and off stating other applications had locked usage (when they werent even on, not even in background tasks) but it stopped working.
I managed to uninstall the camera driver and download the Vista version of the website. The software seems to have installed fine but when you start the software it says "turn camera on" and even by pressing the hot keys I cant get the camera to start, just the software with a grey screen.
I checked device manager and its no use.
Help please! I dont want to have to go out and buy a new camera.

I have two Toshiba laptops and no problems with the webcam. Both webcams work fine and without problems.
Did you download the driver from the Toshiba website?

Maybe a BIOS could also solve the problem.
Have you installed the notebook with the Toshiba recovery disk or Microsoft disk?

Suddenly getting spam...help on config? postconf inside

My company has about 25 mailboxes hosted on this server, recently we have all been getting a LOT of spam. I have noticed in the headers in emails that the spam scores are showing up very low, even for the very obvious "viagra" emails.

I don't mean to be argumentative, but I clicked on your google search link, and only found one link that said that spamcop was bad to use (article from 2004?). However, I found this recommendation in the SpamAssassin-2.43.readme:

Also, I forward the spam that does get through my system to spamcop (and the FTC, and my spamassassin junkmail training account). So I would expect that since the spamcop list is in part created from my difficult spam - that spamcop would be more likely to be able to block said difficult spam.
At the moment, in the last day or so, spamhaus has blocked about 91% of all of my spam, and spamcop as blocked about 4%.
I am looking into using your suggestion of combined.njabl.org. Though, so very little spam gets through my system now, that I'm not sure it will catch anything.

My external display suddenly stopped working...help?!?

I have a 2009 MBP that I have been using in clamshell mode for the past 1.5 yrs. I've had it hooked up to a LG Flatron M2362D 23" HD monitor for about 6 months or so. I have never even had a hiccup until now. However, about 30 mins ago, my display decided to stop working. I have it hooked up with the mini-DVI. I tried switching to my 19" Dell monitor (which I know works) to check and see if it was just my display, however the problem persists. Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

I wish I could help, but I'm here because I just began having the same problem. Everything worked great until a few days ago. The external monitor works great with my old Dell laptop, just not with my Macbook Pro. This is really frustrating.

Import is broken - only reboot helps?

I have been using Aperture 1.5.x for a couple of months with out any problems. Lately, when I want to import images, the Import Panel shows as usual, but as soon as I move the mouse, a gray box about 1/5 the size of the screen appears over the lower middle of the Aperture application window.
Clicking on an import folder (local, network or USB) does not show the usual Import Dialog, but the gray box stays. Neither will pressing shift-I hide the Import panel.
When I have tried to import images, quitting is no longer possible either - I will have to force quit Aperture.
I can select projects, albums and otherwise work in Aperture, but importing does not work before I restart the machine.
What can be the cause of this?

I think I found the Solution!!! Rename your Folder/Drive to anything other than "Pictures". I think Aperture doesn't like folders or drives named "Pictures" (Other than the default one in the user's folder). After renaming, it seems to be ok and Aperture doesn't complain about missing pictures. Make sure you quit Aperture before renaming anything, because who knows what could happen.
I had a separate drive named "Pictures" and I used that for all my files for Aperture, and now that I changed it to "Pictures A" instead, the importing works as it should. And everything seems to be normal. I hope this make someones day, because it did mine!!!
Theory 1: Aperture doesn't seem to like (or gets confused) with any other folder/drive named "Pictures" when importing, except for the one in the user's folder. This make sense (I guess), since version 1.5 introduced referencing files and one of the defaults in the import section is the "Pictures" folder (under "Store Files" option). But I think they broke it after 1.5.2 or something.
Theory 2: After changing your folder/drive name, Aperture relinks things automatically and fixes the problem.

Is Satellite P200-1C2 (PSPB6E) 64-bit Windows 7 compatible?

Hey Guys,
I got one question there:
I've been trying to find drivers for my Satellite P200 PSPB6E, and I found pretty much all but there is no VAP for the 64-bit version of Windows 7...
I tried the VAP of the Satellite P500 Series and it works more or less but the FN-Hotkey Button won't bring up the flash cards! (that's my major problem so if I could solve that one, the following is not that important)
So my question is, is there the possibility that Toshiba will provide a VAP for Win 7 64-Bit or is that notebook just to old and not compatible anymore?
Or is there another way to grab those drivers I need for those funktions?

As you know Windows 7 is already long time on the market and if Toshiba didn't offered Win7 64bit stuff until now I don't think it will happen in the future.
What you have done is right. You can try one more thing, to find Flash card support utility for other notebook model and try to install it on your Satellite P200.
I am not sure this will help but you can try it.
Check also flash cards settings and enable option Allow the mouse to bring up the cards. Maybe this option will help you to see use flash cards using mouse pointer.

Right, but I mean I think the connector on the logic board might be detached/broken. When I tested the old display, I completely removed the new one, cables and all, and connected the old one with the original LVDS cable. So these symptoms are independent of the lcd/cables that I use.

I'm not sure I follow. By "completely black screen" I meant no backlight...

No there would be no graphic anomalies in this failure and clamping left of the track pad is a problem since that's where the hard drive is. The pressure should go on U28 as indicated in the Cory Arnold site better resolder pin 15.
I guess I just want to get this all sorted out for posterity.

How to recover only the C drive on a Satellite P200-1FJ

Hi, I have a Satellite P200-1FJ and I want to recover Vista but only on my first partition.
My HDD is divided in 3 partitions and I don't want to loose data. How can I recover only the C partition using the Product Recovery CD that came with my laptop ?

There's a specific order in which the downloads will need to be installed. When the flash cards are installed they interact with the Toshiba Product Information tool that is present on the machine; should this not be installed then it will return an error as it thinks the machine is not a Toshiba.
The downloads you need to install (in order) are:
TOSHIBA Value Added Package
TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility
TOSHIBA Hardware Setup Utility
TOSHIBA Supervisor Password
TOSHIBA SD Memory Utilities
TOSHIBA ConfigFree
TOSHIBA Assist
What I would recommend is removing whatever Toshiba software you have installed first and then try it in that order and see what happens :)
