Satellite P200 (PSPB6A) - Heating Issue

I have recently setup my Toshiba Satellite P200 notebook as a Win-XP(SP 2) & Win-Vista Home Premium dual boot. I have also installed the SpeedFan utility to monitor component temperature on the system.
When booting with Win-Vista Home Premium, the CPU temperature is generally in the 50-55(degree Celsius) range. However, on booting with XP, the temperature shoots up to the 65-70(degree Celsius) range and a loud noise from the fan is heard.
Would someone be able to help me figure out as to what could be the problem with the installation?
Thanks
Arun

You are speaking about heating issue if then temperature increased to 65-70 degree celsius?
Hey buddy, such temperature is nothing unusual
The CPU temperature can increase up to 100 degree Celsius and this depends on the notebook usage
Furthermore you said that you have installed Win XP on this notebook
In this case you should check the Power Saver settings
In Basic Setup you could change CPU control method, CPU processing speed and cooling method these settings would affect the temperature and the cooling

  • How to obtain drivers for Satellite P200 PSPB6A

    Satellite P200 PSPB6A-OCSO4M.
I have not updated drivers since I purchased the laptop seveal years.
Didn't know I had to - pardon ignorance.
How do I go about it please?

    Hi
Its not necessary to update any drivers (except of Windows security patches) if everything is running properly!!!
Why you want to update the driver? Just because newer version is available???
My notebook is three years old I install only the Windows patches and fixes. I dont touch any drivers because I follow always this; never touch a running system ;)
PS: Your notebook seems to belong to Toshiba Australian series and therefore the drivers should be available on Toshiba Australian page.

  • Satellite P200-143 shut down issues

When I shut down my computer, while on the mains, the computer shuts down normally but a minute later, automatically restarts.
However, on battery it shuts down as it should.
I've checked my power settings, and they are all fine.
So I was wondering if anyone knew what I could do.
I have been shutting down by keeping the power button pressed, as it seems to be the only way.

I have a problem with my Satellite P200-144. Every time I plug it into the mains, it lasts about twenty minutes, and then cuts out. The time period is always the same, and it only ever happens when plugged into the mains, it will quite happily run on the battery until it runs dry.

  • Satellite P200-17C: graphics in XP seems to be running a bit sluggish

    Hi all
    I've just bought a Satellite P200-17c.
I've set up my dual boot with Vista and XP (that was REALLLLY hard) everything seems to be almost OK, but..... The graphics in XP seems to be running a bit sluggish, when you scroll a window in a browser it seems to 'refresh' in blocks - it's not moving right. If I go to device manager under other devices there are two things for which there is no driver install, one says: VGA controller, the other says: unknown device!
It's true that I haven't istalled the ATI drivers yet.... But that's because the only place I can find to get them for XP is from the Toshiba support area, the file is 162MB (not that big) but it is downloading at such a slow pace even though I have a fast connection, I don't even know if it will work?!
I've tried some things from the ATI site directly, althought I was trying to install the drivers for the ATI HD2400 graphics card that the machine has, on installation it said it couldn't continue as there wasn't any compatable hardware connected.....
My download from the Toshiba area has already gone wrong once, meaning I have to re-start it.
Does any one have any light they can shine on this issue. If any one has the driver downloaded already and fancies sticking on mega upload or something, that'll be fun???!!!!!
    Ideas suggestion welcome!

    Hi
I was very curious about driver offered on Toshiba support page. You are right about file. It is about 160 MB and I have needed 20 minutes for download but download was successfully and I do not see any problem that you can not do the same.
Extract the file and just use setup.exe to start driver installation.

  • Satellite P200-RT1 - FN keys don't work after downgrade to XP

    Hi
    I have a Satellite P200-RT1, PSPBOC.
I have downgraded my operating system from Vista to XP.
Now I am having a driver issue, I have installed all of the drivers for my computer. I have installed all of the HotKey utilities for my computer as well and I still have an issue. Some of my FN Key functions don't work. The ESC to F5 Functions work but all of the functions above there do not.
I am really looking for the Display Brightness and Dimmer keys F6&F7 to work, if possible I would also like the F9 key touch pad enable/disable key to work as well, which as of right now they don't.
I was wondering if there is a driver that I am missing and if so which driver is it. I have taken my computer into three computer shops now and no one can figure this out. Please Help ME!
    Thanks Ken.

    Hello
It seems that your notebook is a Canadian model and therefore you can download the drivers on the Toshiba Canada website:
    http://www.toshiba.ca
The problem is that I cant find Windows XP drivers on this website. :(
The only way I know is that you try the drivers and utilities from the European website. Normally the models are very similar and maybe it works. Its worth a try.
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers
Try to download and install Toshiba Accessibility and Controls (Driver).

  • Satellite P200-1EE - Hard disk not found if I try to install XP

Hi and I have a problem.
I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite P200-1EE series laptop running (of all things) Vista and nothing but problems ever since so im trying to install XP professional and overwrite Vista.
But whenever I try to install it says "hard disk not found..... unable to access"
I've heard of problems like this before something like a "software block protocol"
    Any suggestions?

    Hi!
Why you dont search in the forum before you start a new topic?
I mean you will hundreds of threads about this issue here in the forum and you will find the solution of your problem in few minutes.
Well, the reason for this is because you need the SATA drivers before you can install Windows XP. As far as I know your notebook is equipped with an Intel chipset and so you need the Intel Storage Manager. You can integrate the drivers using an external FDD or nLite [www.nliteos.com]. Furthermore this document could be useful for you:

  • Satellite P200-1FT: 1680x1050 @ 60Hz not available on external 22" TFT

    Hi,
I bought a Toshiba Satellite P200-1FT some months ago (Graphic card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600). I wanted to use a 22" Hanns G HG216DP with its native resolution of *1680x1050px @ 60Hz* as a primary external monitor.
I connected my notebook to the TFT over HDMI. Unfortunately I cannot select this display setting in the Catalyst Control Panel. There is only 1680x1050 @ 30Hz available :(
Has anybody got the same problem? How can I fix it?
    Thank you very much,
    XeroX

Jayjay is right. Sometimes these issues can be caused by a bad cable, but I doubt this in your case.
Maybe you could try a HDMI 1.3 cable. You can get this in nearly every well sorted electronics store.
I remember that there was an option in the Catalyst control panel. Make sure the "Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution displays" is unchecked. Helps for high resolutions.

  • Satellite P200 - all Browsers Crashes after 5 to 20 mins

I am now losing the will to live with this laptop.
    Satellite P200-13z with Vista 32bit
The issue is this... no matter what browser I use it will freeze and hang. Opera, IE and Firefox. Sometimes it will be good and work for 20 mins, sometimes it will crash in 5 mins.
I have updated my drivers, done clean re-installs of the OS, tested my RAM, shut down all but MS services, increased virtual memory, prayed to various germanic gods.
I have Avast and Zone Alarm running alone from Non MS services. I may shut them down and see what happens but not sure it will be the cause.
I am of the opinion it may be memory related and the way it is handled, possible aligned with Adobe Flash (spit). Maybe a Vista issue.
Uninstalling that curse (Flash) does not seem to fix the issue either.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? 18 months I have been trying to fix this... and now I need the laptop fulltime it needs to be fixed.
It isn't an isolated problem either, google search 'all browser crash vista' to see what is happening out there, and a comple lack of knowledge or solution for this issue.
Many thanks in advance for some support.

    Thanks Andrej
By crash, the browser locks up and freezes. I can close firefox for example, but am unable to restart it or kill the process.
I have seen it happen on Mozilla Filezilla and browsers only.
I should have done it while under warranty, but unable to do that now. I just assumed it was a flash issue and would have been fixed under a future update. Also due to the number of people getting the same issue problem, assumed it wasn't the laptop.
Would you know what kinda reports I would need to post so folk can see what is happening under the hood so to speak?

  • Satellite P200 (PSPBGA) - Fingerprint and webcam don't work on Windows 7

I am using a Satellite P200 (PSPBGA) and have upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
However the Toshiba Fingerprint Utility and Chicony Web Camera Assistant Software both don't work. I have checked and there are no new updates on the Australian website.
Can you please help me out with these two issues?

    Hi Boarder
Thanks for your suggestions. I have tried the Vista drivers and the US Toshiba page, unfortunatley neither work.
I went to the Upek website for the bio finger print software which is two fold over the latest version supported by Toshiba for Vista. I'll wait to see if Toshiba bring out a version for Win7 as the one I downloaded is limited, otherwise I am happy to pay approx $15 for the full version.
I really need the webcam to function though. I think the driver is ok, just need the sofware to run the inbuilt camera.
    Cheers

  • Satellite P200 - Cdrom is not recognized

    Hi
I have a satellite p200 and my cd rom is no longer recognized by my laptop. I had this problem once before and took it back to pc world who fixed it but didnt let me know why.
Has anyone had the same problem? Anyone know of a solution?

Before you will contact the technicians for the notebook check try to boot from a CD. For example try to install the OS from the Toshiba recovery CD.
If it will be possible then the CD/DVD drive is ok and not faulty. In such case I think the issue could be related to the software and new OS installation should fix this.
From my personal experience the corrupted windows registry could be responsible for such CD/DVD drive issues.

I've got a Satellite P200 and the flash cards don't react and when Ive played some music.
The computer makes some strange noises after closing the music?
    Help me please!

    Hello Wendy
Please don't understand me wrong but it is not easy to understand issue described in your posting.
I have the same notebook model and everything works well. I hear music daily on Windows media player (mp3s) or listening online radio using Winamp player.
At the same time I can use flash cards.
What to say about strange noises? Who knows what do you mean exactly and how should we understand this?
Please be so nice and explain us exactly what do you do and what kind of noises you can hear.

  • Satellite P200-123 No Post, but still boots

    Hi
Have a strange one, my 2 year old Satellite P200-123 was running extremely hot (70 idle over 100 on load) so stripped it down and replaced the thermal grease, fans and cleaned it up. The standard maintenance went fine, (apart from the Microphone plug disintegrating on removal, but I use a headset so not really an issue).
On first boot after the maintenance I noticed the screen does not display anything until the windows log in screen, no toshiba screen, no post messages etc. At first I thought it may have defaulted to an external port (VGA or HDMI) however I have tried connecting it up to an external device and it still refuses to show anything before the windows log on screen.
I have stripped and repaired hundreds of laptops (it's my job) but never encountered this in 15 years of PC and Laptop repairs and maintenance. The system is running Windows 7 (not like that should make any difference) and the thermal grease used was the new Artic MX-3 and was used on the GPU, CPU and Northbridge (and before anyone says you need to use the toshiba ceramic non pressure based compound, the stuff I have used here is better for this then the toshiba recommended stuff, trust me). The system runs fine (now idling at 39 and 65 on full load), I suppose its not much of a problem, unless I need to reinstall or roll back my machine for any reason, anyone got any idea's on how to rectify this?

For some reason it wouldn't allow me to use the HDMI for checking the output. Plugged it in to an old CRT at work and changed the default view to LCD and hey presto. Not sure why it had defaulted to CRT. Strange. Ah well, will leave this up if anyone ever encounters this again.

  • Satellite P200-P100 - Black screen after a Windows 7 update

    Hi,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P200-P100 running Windows 7.
A few weeks ago, after a Windows 7 Update, my monitor would not show any image, it would light up, but still no image. Not even the BIOS it would load.
I fixed it by using System Restore using another monitor. The same happened again today, I must have ran the same update, but this time a system restore did not solve it, neither did reinstalling Win 7.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Spre3

    Hi
You mean you cannot see anything on the internal nor the external monitor even switching the display output pressing the FN + F5 buttons???
Hmm. in my personal opinion this has nothing to do with the Win 7 update
I mean the Win 7 OS update/installation should not affect the BIOS and you should be able to access the BIOS even if no operating system would be installed on the HDD!!!
So I assume the whole issue could be related to the motherboard issue or some parts placed on motherboard
    Did you try this?
Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
Then wait a little bit (1hour) and then connect both parts again.
Then try to power up the unit
If this will not help then the RAM modules should be checked.

  • After several repairs, still having heating issue with MacBook Pro (mid '09)

EDIT: this post got removed the first time for not being constructive enough. I've now edited the post.
This is going to be a lengthy post, so bear with me.
2 months ago, I suddenly noticed my MacBook Pro (medio 2009, 15", 4GB RAM, GeForce 9400M) heating up a lot harder than usual. I'm familiar with the heating issues these laptops have, but this wasn't normal. Looking at iStat Pro, I saw my fans almost taking off like an airplane at 5700 rpm, while watching only a livestream on my browser. I know Shockwave Flash takes up quite a chunk of your CPU, but I had never encountered this problem beforehand.
The biggest problem wasn't just the heat or the fans, but the fact that my computer also started reacting rather slowly. Sometimes I'd even get beachballed, or the whole browser stopped responding for half a minute...
So I tried to see if gaming was still an option. Of course not. I had been playing League of Legends for several months without any issues. Whilst playing, I'd kick up my fans manually to about 4000 rpm, and they'd stay there throughout the whole game. Now, when I start up the game, it plays smoothly for the first 2 minutes. After the temperatures rise to a critical level, the fans start spinning up to 5700 rpm, and the whole game plays like a powerpoint presentation.
On a sidenote: it sort of 'lags' every 1-2 seconds, and sometimes, after a long period, the game acts somewhat normal again (20 mins). This game uses wine to run, which isn't the most optimal way. So I tried playing Team Fortress 2, too. Probably even worse results! (but again noticeable 1-2 second interval lags)
Before anyone starts screaming: "Don't use your Mac for gaming!" etc., I wish to point out that these two games had been running perfectly for the past few months/years. Something's definitely wrong.
After looking for some solutions myself, I decided to go to an authorized Apple Service in my city. A few days later, they told me my logic board was broken, and I had to pay almost 700 euros ($ 900-1000) to replace it. So I did. I got it back, but it wasn't fixed. Brought it back in. Got it back a week later: "Your new logic board we got from Apple was already broken, but we hadn't noticed. We put a new one in it. It's fixed." Again, same problem.
We're almost 2 months later and 700 euros poorer, still no result. I've brought it in about 6-7 times now, here's a list of what they've tried so far:
    - In total 3 new logic boards
    - New MagSafe (because they discovered it was giving too much power too my laptop)
    - Fresh re-install
    - Replaced RAM
    - Checked fans etc. (they do this by default)
    - A few tests which proved that it was repaired (but I have my doubts with these tests...)
They told me now that it's fixed, and they basically won't look into it anymore. I must contact Apple myself, if I wasn't satisfied. The tests they performed showed no signs of heating issues. (One of the tests was playing 4 1080p movies at the same time. When I watch a 1080p movie on Youtube, my laptop is taking off like a plane) They ran a stress test all night long, showing no temperatures above 98°C. I got it up to 105°C in a few minutes according to iStat Pro.
They advised me to install Mountain Lion, which would make the issues with "high-performance sites" go away. I haven't seen much improvement, though.
This whole experience has been quite frustrating, especially now that I'm gonna need my laptop for University again. Isn't there anything I can do? I've paid almost 700 euros and missed my laptop for 2 months, without any results.
I've got more information regarding the issues if needed, ask away. I'm getting desperate.
I've been browsing around the support communites, and found that a lot of people are having issues since they upgraded to OS X Lion. Could this be the case? Should I try downgrading to Snow Leopard?
I've also found a few topics on refreshing the cooling pasta on the heatsink. Would they have noticed any problems with this after replacing the Logic Board several times? Or should I check it myself? I'm not too keen on opening up my laptop myself...
    Nick.

    Thought of buying Parallels? Fusion?
Might want to see if this gets moved to the MacBook Pro forum.
I'd think Windows 8.1 is smart enough (what I use 90% time since the Dev Preview came out couple yrs ago it seems like) to find the driver.

  • HDD and memory upgrade on Satellite P200-17C

    Hi there
I own Satellite P200 17c. My current memory is DDR2 PC2-5300 2gb. I would like to upgrade it to DDR2 PC2-6400 4gb ram. Can i do that and is there going to be some improvement of the speed if I upgrade to PC2-6400 instead PC2-5300?
On my P200 17c I have 2 HDDs. 2x100gb. I would like to upgrade one of those two HD from 100gb to 320gb 5400 rpm. Can i do that? and is it going to be some difference if I upgrade with HD that has 7200 rpm?
    Thank you

First of all: your machine is able to handle a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB but please be aware that you wont be able to use the full 4GB due to some chipset limitations which are explained in the following article: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB82022E0000R01.htm
Regarding the module speed: the chipset specifications are defined for PC5300, so it will not enhance your speed when installing faster modules.
If you would like to upgrade your harddisk then just do it like you want, because there shouldnt be any limitations, you can install a drive with 7200rpm together with a slower one.
The only difference will be that the faster drive will be faster. The whole system performance would only raise when youre installing your OS on the faster drive (which is recommendation from my side :) )
