Satellite P300-13M - beeps on boot

Hello,
My notebook now and then beeps at startup and then I get a black screen (and can't do anything)
The beepingsounds goes as follow: BEEEEEEEEEEEP BEEP BEEP (1 long - 2 short)
Anyone knows what this could be?
This is very annoying when I want to show a project to my client and suddenly the notebook isn't working anymore....
Thnx in advance,
Raey

Hi!
The beep codes mean that there is a hardware component faulty.
Its not easy to say what is the reason for this but in your case I would try to exchange the RAM.
If it doesnt work you should contact an ASP and ask for help. The technicians can check your notebook and exchange all necessary parts.
On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest ASP:

  • Satellite P300-13M won't start at all

    Hello everybody,
my Satellite P300 - 13M with product number PSPC4E won't start at all!
When I put down my screen, it automatically goes in hibernation mode. But the last time I did this was just too much apparently.. I've ejected my battery and put the adapter in to see if it would start. Negative. I've put the battery back and ejected the adapter. Negative. I've connected both the battery and adapter. Negative, no result at all.
Does this mean the end of my laptop?
Please help me as fast you guys can because this is my only working laptop.
    Many thanks
Ps if you want specifications, then i cannot give you them. I don't know the specs by heart.

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there but if there is no reaction at all Im afraid mainboard is death.
In my opinion repair is probably not the solution. New motherboard costs a lot of money. Either you can find used one, maybe refurbished and exchange it or sell notebook on eBay and buy new one.

  • Satellite L350-12N - Beeps when booting

    Hi there,
I bought this as a reconditioned laptop, and I'm having trouble getting it to boot. When it's switched on, it shows the welcome to Toshiba screen where you can press function keys to enter the setup screens, then the screen goes black, makes a continuous beeping noise, and goes no further. It doesn't load the operating system.
I've tried restoring the operating system from the hard drive as instructed in the manual, but the same fault remains. Is this a known indicator of a hardware or software fault?
Any help or advice would be appreciated!

    Hi,
If we just switch it on and leave it to it's own devices, it reaches the toshiba screen, then the screen goes black and it makes the loud beeping noise. It sounds like separate beeps back to back with no gaps. It doesn't load the operating system.
We did manage to install the operating sytem by interrupting the normal boot sequence by pressing F8 and selecting Windows Vista. By doing this 2 or 3 times, Vista installed and launched as we would expect. At it's final restart during setup, it booted and launched without beeping.
This morning, I switched it on, and it's beeping again! In an effort to stop the beeping, I pressed F8, and it took me to the logon screen! I entered my details, and it launched windows as you would expect. This surely is not normal!
We seem to nave no option to enter the bios settings.
We've restarted it once or twice since, and it's started up just fine, so it seems to be in intermittent fault.
We haven't made a recovery disk yet, as last night we couldn't get that far! We used the HDD recovery.
Is this looking like a hardware fault we need to get the vendor to sort? Are there any known reasons for this beep? It sounds like a warning beep.
    Thanks for your help!

  • Satellite P300-1A8 will not boot from disc drive

    Hi,
I had a little play with start up programs, partitioning the hard drive and marking as active and deleting programs i thought i did not need.
I obviously had no idea what i was doing!
Laptop will go to toshiba screen then goes blank, i can not boot from the disc drive.
I put the hard drive into another laptop and it works fine.
I put the hard drive of that laptop in the buggered one and that works fine.
How the hell do i put the original one back with it working??
    Really really stuck with this!!!!!
    Any help would be appreciated.
Only thing i havent tried is the recovery disc but im not paying for one if it wont boot as itl be a waste of money.
Seems like its a compatability problem with cpu and hard drive as they dont want to be friends anymore!!
    Thank you in advance

    Hi!
Can you boot in the safe mode?
If you dont have a recovery disk, use the Microsoft installation disk and try to boot from it.
And you said that you cant boot from disc drive, did you tried different disks?
Maybe some are not readable or not bootable.
The best way would be a recovery disk. The installation takes a few minutes and you have a clean installation with all drivers and tools from Toshiba.

  • Can't boot from CD in my Satellite P300-23F

    Hello,
I'm trying to fix my brother's old laptop. It is a Toshiba satellite p300-23f. The laptop didn't work well, so he bought another one. I think it might have a problem with the HDD, but I'm not sure about that, and want to try and format the HDD and reinstall the operating system.
When I initiate from the HDD I have no problem, the OS initiates normally, and I can "use" the laptop. The problem is when I try to boot from the OS CD. I get that message "Media test failure, check cable". I know the CD works, because recently I instaled the OS with that CD on another computer. And I know the CD lector (not sure if it's called like this, but I think you understand what I mean) works fine too, because I've tried different CDs, and it worked.
I already tried pressing F12 and booting from the CD there, and also tried to change the BIOS and put the CD on the first place, but it doesn't work.
Any clue what's going on? Is there any way to make it work?

Problem can be optical disc drive. In some cases lens cannot be calibrated for reading DVD but you can still use CDs.
I also think that ODD is defective.
It is good idea to create bootable USB. So you can use USB to install operating system.
If you need some assistance with drivers, tools and utilities installation let us know. just start new thread.

  • Re: Satellite P300 - POST screen blank on booting up and very slow start up

    Hi,
I have a laptop Satellite P300. On booting up vista the microsoft logo comes up and then when the POST screen should be showing me what the bios is checking the screen is blank.
It remains blank for 5 to 10 mins then the pointer appears then it finally goes to the desktop.
I suspect the bios is hanging on something but I can't see cos the screen is blank. I suspect there is a setting somewhere. I can enter the bios but can't find anything in there.
Also regards to the extremely slow boot, I have disabled nearly all the start up programs but it has made no difference.
    Has anyone any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi
Everything runs slowly but finally the Windows OS boots up properly. Right?
Hmm. you can access the BIOS press F2 immediately after power button has been pressed.
This should allow you to access the BIOS. There you should press F9 to set the BIOS to default settings. Save the changes and reboot the unit again.
Additionally I would recommend checking the HDD. You could use a tool called Drive Fitness Test. This tool can be downloaded for free (google for that).
By the way; did you try to recover the notebook using recover disk?
Maybe you should try this but note; this would format the HDD so backup the date before starting recovery.

  • Cannot boot the Satellite P300-1FN - nothing happens

    Hi all
I recently re-installed windows 7 on my Satellite P300-1FN and after some minor glitches it was running fine.
I stalled some drivers and updates then it prompted me to restart.
I turned it off and left it while I had lunch then tried to boot it and nothing happened.
I mean nothing, not even the light for mains power comes on. I put the battery in which I know has at least half a charge and nothing.
Changed the fuse again nothing. What is this about?
    It's completely dead.
    Any help appreciated.
    G

    >I mean nothing, not even the light for mains power comes on.
    Sounds not good man
Sounds like CPU or motherboard issue because no LEDs are on.
    But try this;
Disconnect Ac adaptor, remove the battery, wait some time (2-4 hours) and connect both parts again.
Check if you could power up the unit.
If this would not be possible then I would recommend contacting an professional ASP technician
Sorry but this is everything what I can suggest

    Hello
    Sounds like a hardware issue...
You could try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Wait one hour and then connect both devices again.
If it doesnt work you need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and tell you what part must be replaced.

  • Satellite P300 (PSPC4E) - BIOS is corrupted

I have some trouble with my Toshiba Satellite P300 (PSPC4E).
The BIOS is corrupted and I'm trying to recover it.
I've disconnected the battery, HDD and DVD.
I successfully created an USB boot disk using HP USB Tool and CrisDisk.
It was empty after I run it. I copied three files into it, PHLASH16.EXE, Autoexec.bat and my laptops bios, named bios.wph (version 4.20).
Using CrisDisk the required files was moved there automatically.
I've tried multiplie key combinations, following the boot instruction (USB -> Power Cord -> Power Button), as FN/WIN + B/F, FN/WIN + ESC.
When I boot up with FN/WIN + B/F, it just boots up "normally", all LEDs light up and the screen stay black. The USB doesnt flash or anything.
Using FN + ESC is a different story though, no LEDs light up, except for the power button.
The USB flashes briefly, for a few seconds, and after a little while the laptop begins to beep.
When I say beep, it really beeps, loudly as h***l! 1 long beep + 2 short beeps, which goes on constantly.
I left it for about 10-15 minutes, but nothing happened. The beeps were really loud, so I shut it down.
I tried doing the key combination without connecting the USB, and it did the same thing, 1 long + 2 short beeps.
So, am I doing something wrong here?
Also, I wonder if it is possible to turn down the volume of the beeps.
Would be really grateful for any help I can get.

Excellent, seems to be the same BIOS, thank you very much.
Tried them all and none worked though, I believe I need the right Phlash16-version.
Read in a thread about people having the exact same problem and what they needed was the right BIOS-file with the right Phlash16-version.
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Lockups-Freezes-Hangs/Pavilion-DV6700-bios-recovery-from-usb-disk-problem/td-p/646151
Now I've tried all BIOS files with like 4-5 different Phlash16.exe, but to no avail.
It seems like it should work, everything points at that, the laptop recognizes the USB and such, but it just refuses to flash.
I've also tried to use "Compress The Bin File" which apparently helps recovering some Acer models, I've tried with the battery connected, USB-port at both left and right side of the laptop. It doesn't matter what I do, the result is always the same, the USB flashes a few times, then nothing happens for several seconds before it beeps. I've wasted so many hours at this it's ridiculous.
Nobody who had this actual model and recovered it?
Have any good guess which Phlash16-version should work?

  • Satellite P300-20H - HHD upgrade to 1 TByte

    Dear All,
I would like to upgrade my internal hard drive from 250 Gbyte to 1 Tbyte.
The 1 Terabyte hard drive have the following specifications:
    Capacity - 1 TB
    Interface type - Serial ATA-300
Data transfer rate - 300 MBps
    Spindle speed - 5,400 rpm
    Buffer size - 8 MB
    Model is: Toshiba MQ01ABD100 1TB SATA 3GB/s 5400RPM 2.5 Inch 9.5mm Internal Hard Drive
Laptop - Before upgrading, what are the considerations do I have to make?
    (1) BIOS changes required? After upgrading
    (2) Current hard drive contents
    (3) Boot Disk
    (4) How do I copy the orginal and format the new hard drive with the licensed operating system VIsta Home Premium edition 32 bit onto my new hard drive.
    (5) Installing new hard drive once points 1 and 4 have been taken into account and acted on.
    Please advise.
    K regards
    Reynold

    Hello Reynold
Satellite P300 is well known to me and I had it long time ago. At this time I used it with original HDD and 1TB HDD was not available on the market. On my P300 I had possibility to use second HDD so I was happy with two HDDs inside. I used second HDD for data back-up only.
Has your P300 connector for second HDD?
I cannot say for sure but I think such upgrade should not be problematic and new HDD will be recognized properly.
Here is my answer to your questions:
    > (1) BIOS changes required? After upgrading
I think Toshiba doesn't offer some newer BIOS update for this old machine so, in my opinion, BIOS update is completely irrelevant and will not change anything.
    > (2) Current hard drive contents
After removing this original HDD you can use it as second HDD (if possible) or as external HDD for data back-up. What you will do with the content is your decision.
    > (3) Boot Disk
I don't know what do you think with boot disk but before you start to change anything create original recovery Vista installation discs. These recovery discs you can use to install original Vista version on new HDD.
Have you already created such recovery discs?
One more thing: at this time 1TB HDD was not available on the market and I really don't know how recovery image installation will work on such HDD. I hope without problems.
    > (4) How do I copy the orginal and format the new hard drive with the licensed operating system VIsta Home Premium edition 32 bit onto my new hard drive.
As I already wrote you have option to create recovery disc and use them for clean Vista installation on new HDD. Using this discs you will have machine with factory settings again.
    > (5) Installing new hard drive once points 1 and 4 have been taken into account and acted on.
Unfortunately I don't understand what do you mean exactly.
Please note: when you use recovery discs you will have the same situation as you had on first start after purchase. With other words, you must install all favourite applications additionally.
There is also possibility to create recovery image of your actual OS and actual configuration but for doing this you need some third part applications like Acronis true image.

  • Satellite P300 does not charge

    Hello there.
I have Toshiba Satellite P300. It's nearly 4 years old.
However, 3 months ago it has started not to charge battery. I removed battery and left computer only with adaptor.
Now it does not charge at one, i have to wait until electricity or smth will reach some level to start computer.
So, please, help if anybody has had some alike problem or knows the reason and what to do.
Maybe its adaptor problem, or something wrong with connection between adaptor and pc. I don't know and have no money yet to check it.
Does anybody know what's wrong? Thanks.

    Hi
    Such issues can be related to different reasons;
    - AC adaptor issue
    - Motherboard issue (Im thinking especially about power supply electronic issue)
But I dont think it could be an AC adaptor malfunction because the notebook can power up after a specific power level has been reached or the notebook can boot up after a longer time being connected to AC adaptor. Is it right?
Well, it sounds like an mobo issue but this is just an suggestion
The parts should be checked firstly before replacing

  • Strange issue with "Enter" key in Vista on Satellite P300-225

A few weeks ago, I don't recall exactly when, Windows Vista on my Satellite P300-225 started to pass an incorrect scancode to applications when the Enter key is pressed. It always sends the scancode of the Keypad Enter key, even when I hit the one in the alphanumeric part of the keyboard. It did work correctly some time ago, but suddenly, it just started acting like this. No remapping of any keys.
Since there are quite a few programs that act different on these two keys, this has become quite an annoying issue.
The strangest part of it is, that the problem seems to be somehow related to Windows Vista, since the keys are correctly reported on Linux.
If anybody has a clue, please, let me know.

Yes, it almost certainly is a keymapping issue related to Vista. Reinstalling Vista isn't a way to go, it's not worth the effort (the recovery DVDs would comletely wipe out everything from my harddisk so I'd have to move all my data away and then restore, reinstall Linux et cetera). I'll give a try to uninstalling the keyboard in safe mode though.
Anyway, it almost looks like some Windows update is responsible for this, since I have automatic updates enabled and it installs something everytime I boot it. I don't know about any program I installed before this happend that could possibly alter the mappings. (...and the registry key used for this is empty.)

  • Satellite P300 keeps restarting itself after initial start up screen.

My Satellite P300 keeps restarting itself after the initial start up screen.
The initial start up screen with the F2 & F12 options at the bottom appears, the screen then goes black, then a cursor appears in the top left hand corner and flashes a couple of times. Then the laptop shuts down and restarts itself and goes through the same process over and over.
This is all with the power adaptor plugged in. If unplugged, it will go through the above mentioned process and shut itself down with no restart.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

F8 is not listed in this meny, just F2 and F12 but F8 should help you to enter Advanced boot options .
Can you please give an answer to C3POs question?
Have you made some hardware upgrades in the past (RAM, HDD)?
    Have you changed anything?

    Hi there,
    2 questions:
    1.
Is it possible with my Satellite P300-15D to boot from ExpressCard slot with an SSD ExpressCard???
    2.
With the current chassis is there any possibility of an hardware upgrade? Don't know if, in the P300 Series or any other series, exists compatible hardware that could improve my machine...
Sorry for the noob questions and my poor english...

    Hi Marco
1/ As far as I know something like this is not possible. Out of curiosity but why is this important for you?
2/ You can upgrade your P300 with RAM or HDD. Both upgrades are supported. My brother has the same machine and he upgraded it with max RAM and new SSD. Now boot up in 30 seconds only and machine runs very fast.
I recommend you these two upgrades. If you need more info about compatible RAM modules or good SSD for your machine let us know.
I don't know why do you need specification for your machine but if you check Toshiba download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp - you will find it there.
By the way: which OS do you use? Original Vista or Win7 maybe?
